As one of the most prominent TNA Knockouts of the past several years, Awesome Kong‘s departure from TNA in March was saddening yet controversial. Following a well-documented backstage incident with Bubba the Love Sponge in January, Kong’s TNA future had been in doubt. With her release granted, Kong is looking forward to many new projects — including a return to Ring of Honor on May 8th in New York.
In this interview with the two-time Knockouts Champion, we get Kong’s reaction to being blindsided by Bubba on The Cowhead Show on Thursday and her response to his $5000 challenge. Plus, Kong discusses her TNA departure, her return to ROH against Sara Del Rey, her time as a TNA Knockout including working with Gail Kim, Raisha Saeed (Cheerleader Melissa) and Tara, her thoughts on the current direction of the Knockouts division, pay discrepancies among the women in TNA, meeting and being praised by ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and much more.

GREAT interview and I enjoyed every moment of it. I love that Kong skipped over the negativity and focused more on the positive aspects of her career coming forth, and Steven is very lucky to get to see her live next Saturday I believe it is. More Kongfuscious tweets coming makes for some great twitter days down the road as well. Overall another fantastic interview by Diva-Dirt. Maria, Melina (career retrospective), Kong, amongst others. I loved how Kong was classy about the BTLS stuff and thats all I want to say about that loser. Kong seems to have a jam-packed lifestyle yet its great to see that Kong is far from finished in wrestling (not that it had been hinted anyway!)
Interesting reaction to the question regarding WWE, I hope her giggles were a sign of things to come, I know I’d love to see Kong in the WWE, even if it was as Margaret, well maybe not as that character!

i couldn’t help but laugh along when kong found out that madison rayne was the knockouts champion.
Do we know the details of her release from TNA? She mentioned she can’t appear on TV right now, how much longer will she not be allowed to appear on TV. Its interesting that she mentioned “legal matters,” it sounds like someone is trying to work out a deal to get her on TV asap.
Say she does join WWE, would she be better off on Raw or Smackdown? Smackdown divas do get a bigger spotlight, and she would fit in well with Simply Flawless. She could be their bodyguard. She could also be Vickie’s bodyguard. That would set up Beth Vs Kong well. But, she doesn’t have that many face opponents, after Beth there’s Tiffany & Kelly Kelly! On Raw, she’d have Gail Kim, Natalya & Melina to wrestle. She could put on some awesome matches with them. She could make her debut as Maryse’s bodyguard. I dunno which would be better, either way, I just hope Kong ends up in WWE :)

^ In anywhere of that interview does it say that? To my recollection she only said she couldn’t talk about it, which means she has spoke to them, doesn’t mean it’s on the cards. Kong seems pretty busy and if she wrestles for the fans, she wouldn’t want to let people down, I don’t see why she’d drop everything for sometihng that may or may not happen.
All in all I enjoyed the interview, it was so uncomofrtable having to listen to that radio segment, hearing her respond was just so decent of her in the fact that she answered it and moved on she didn’t sit and bitch as BTLS would’ve done. What gets me though is that anyone in the UK would know of the Jonathon Ross/Russell Brand prank call scandal thing, compared to Kong’s situation that was like a stone in the ocean, why was this never dealt with by the station or whatever? It was racist, it was just vile and yet its gone unnoticed. Urgh, I can’t stand how TNA Has stood by all this, sending out all the wrong messages and just a pointless asset scraping off the coat tails of Hogan.
Back to the interview, I knew she’d get back on her feet, nice to see her have so much lined up as well and I’m not surprised she didn’t even notice Madison’s title capture, the Knockouts title travels around just as much as Kong does, so it makes sense really. Nice to see her mention people like Roxxi and ODB, who often go unsung in the interviews, would’ve liked to have heard more about Sarita, The Kongtourage and even Daffney, I would’ve liked to have seen some proper 1-on-1 Sarita matches and Daffney too, to my memory I’ve only seen them together once and it was a blatant squash.
Would love to hear more from her, I hope she does well in ROH. Her and Del Ray on paper sounds like a real gruelling match-up, so heaven knows what it’ll be like on screen.
She seemed to nice. Love her character, but I wish she would be more open about all that has been going on and people.
Also yes ODB is by far the best knockout they have along with Tara and Daffney.

I’m glad she shared that Victoria was a passionate performer and complete professional. Victoria doesn’t give me the impression she would complain about the other knockouts being stiff. Faceless rumors, I’m glad Kong agrees. Too bad my question wasn’t asked but the interview was great. She’s got a quirky personality and its inspiring to hear she’s doing all kinds of charity projects for “special” kids. Maybe one day TNA will get it right and meet the conditions that Kong and the rest of the Knockouts deserve and get that division going strong again. Or maybe WWE will capitalize on TNA’s mistake and start pushing some serious women’s wrestling again with Kong and Beth/Nattie/Gail/Jillian having some awesome matches.
This was a really good interview. I’ve met Kong at one of the Shimmer tapings and she’s so nice and seems so chill, definitely not what you expect when you see her in the ring haha.

Her perspective about money is also good. Its true their career isn’t very long, so money is definitly an issue if you want to have a calm retirement.
A lot of wrestlers can’t save money and them they end up bad…some deceased WWE stars only got a decent funeral, because Vince decided to be “kind” and pay
for the cerimonies. Why do you guys think Vickie went to WWE? She needed to provide for her girls and dispite Eddie being a major star, the money wouldn’t last
forever.
I’m glad to see that she admits that every wrestler would want to go to the WWE. A lot of people might criticize it, but deep down they know that WWE is the most known
promotion in the world. Saying that they don’t want to be there is like a soccer player saying that we wouldn’t like to play at Real Madrid, or a tennis player saying that
he wouldn’t like to face Roger Federer.
And Kia…a lot of people would LOVE to see a KongPhoenix feud. And yeah, I also believe that Nattie can be the future of the WWE. I’m not a big fan of ODB, but with
Tara gone and with the lack of use of some very talented ladies, ODB might be a very good choice.
I love how kind she is and how much she gives to the world. The Beauty Pegeant for children with some problems its a beautiful idea, specially since those children
suffer everysingle day with discrimination because of something they don’t have any control.
And finally, no, we will not forget you Kong. Not only you are an amazing wrestler, but you seem an amazing person.

With all of the superstars and divas being released, you might have a good chance to sigh with WWE. It means more money and being able to work with Gail Kim again. Are you thinking about it?
