Veteran Divas, Gail Kim and Jillian faced off on WWE Superstars this week. It’s almost as if they were given this rare singles match during Draft week to appease the fact that neither of them was moved over to the brand where, you know, they could actually wrestle and develop their characters. Damn shame. Anyhow, check out the bout below:
We start with a lock-up before Gail applies an armbar but is soon slammed down to the mat by her hair. Jillian then goes for a somersault into a leg drop but misses as Gail moves out of the way. Gail now returns the favour, slamming Jillian down to the mat by her hair. She follows through with an arm drag and forearm before irish whipping Jillian into the corner and going for her crossbody dive through the ropes, however Jillian counters by putting up her knees. Jillian goes up top but is met by Gail Kim who fights her way up also and hits a beautiful hurricanrana on Jillian.
Kim begins gaining some momentum and jumps onto Jillian’s shoulders but is planted onto the canvas with an electric chair drop. Jillian goes for a cover but no three count. Jillian begins working over Gail with some kicks and a powerslam before taking time to pose for the crowd — she gets a pretty great crowd reaction for that. Jillian now mounts Gail with some punches, goes for a cover but again, Gail kicks out. Jillian then applies a submission move from behind, digging her knee into Gail’s back but Kim begins fighting back and is soon on her feet — she hits Jillian with a kick and forearm, then goes to pick up Jillian but her back begins bother her allowing Jillian to take control. Jillian plants Gail with a Samoan drop now. Another pin attempt but no win for Jillian.
Jillian again applies a submission move, driving her knee into Gail’s back. The referee breaks up the hold and Gail tries to fight back but isn’t strong enough. Jillian whips her into the corner and Gail takes a pretty nice bump, falling to the canvas.
After a couple of pin attempts, Jillian applies a headlock as Gail tries to regain momentum with the crowd firmly behind her. She hits Jillian with a few elbows in the stomach but is slammed down to the mat again. Jillian whips Kim into the ropes, Gail however manages to hold onto the top rope and Jillian runs at her only to get a kick from Gail. Jillian then picks up Gail again, possible for another Samoan drop but Gail holds onto the ropes tightly, not allowing herself to be hit with another move. Gail manages to wrap her legs around Jillian’s head for a beautiful headscissors. The two Divas now exchange some nice forearms before Gail hits a couple of clotheslines on Jillian and whips her into the corner for a splash. Gail then runs at Jillian in the corner, who moves out of the way, instead Gail manages to jump onto the middle turnbuckle and hits a nice crossbody on her opponent. However, Jillian then rolls through and attempts to pin Gail who kicks out.
Jillian drives Gail into the turnbuckles, front first and kicks her across the back now. Jillian now hits a great handspring elbow to Gail in the corner. Jillian now goes for a shoulder block but Gail moves out of the way as Jillian eats the ring post. As a dazed Jillian turns around she is hit by Gail’s Eat Defeat for the win.
This was a good match with plenty of time that allowed Gail and Jillian to have some much needed TV exposure. It’s such a shame that neither of these Divas were moved to SmackDown to compete for the Women’s Championship. I don’t see either of them, unfortunately, doing much on Raw. It’s a shame to think that all this potential of Gail’s to be a top Diva has been wasted but right now, I don’t see her getting that push we want to see anytime soon.
However, I really wish the Raw Divas would get a permanent spot on WWE Superstars to have matches like this because there just isn’t enough time on Raw for these girls. Superstars isn’t really a ‘storyline’ show and I don’t see them doing the Eve vs Maryse feud on Superstars but really, it would give them so much more screen time to develop that program. If not the top Divas, at least give girls like Gail, Jillian and Alicia the time they deserve on this show.

great match. Gail and jillian should be fueding for the divas title by now,
good match. it’s nice seeing jillian getting decent offence in, even if she is still on the losing end. they’re both great at putting eachother over. maryse is where jillian should be, and eve where gail should be, really.
I enjoyed that match, it’s nice to see these 2 talented women get some air-time for a change. Jillian gets a lot of heat and they worked well together in the match. I love Gails finisher move it looks really effective and cool.
i love eve and maryse, but come on! These two understand real wrestling, which is telling a story.
I loved this match. I wish we could get a match like this on raw. But I know better. For the life of me, I don’t understand why they are not pushing Gail Kim or even Jillian. I don’t get it. It is not like the both of them don’t get a reaction from the crowd. They do. It is just mind boggling to me.
Great match. I love these two women.
On another note, Gail is one of my favorite divas when it comes to in-ring work. But if I’m being honest, I’m just not that in love with her “Eat Defeat.” It’s not because I’m used to seeing Chuck Taylor do it as a regular move but simply because it’s Gail Kim doing it. She can do SO much better. It’s like that Happy Ending (neck breaker) of hers. They just don’t seem that effective. I miss her Christo and her Flying Neck Breaker–now those moves can really sell how strong she is. But then again, maybe that’s not what the WWE wants.
Oh, and yes, I AM COMPLAINING AGAIN. But, really, what can you do? :)

Good match between the two. Its refreshing a good womens bout for once. Also because I almost forgot how good Jillian Hall is. She seriously deserves a push as top heel. The girl can work and make her opponents look good, I don’t understand why kept in the backburner. HOPEFULLY we can see them on RAW soon =)
I can see Gail Kim vs Eve soon, with WWE letting Eve win to make her look better than Gail because yeah Gail can win matches but they ALWAYS make her lose to their ‘favourites’ so it looks like TNA wasn’t all THAT good..
So yeah, my prediction is Gail vs Eve in the next few weeks.

Jillian and Gail got such a great crowd reation, something Eve can only dream about.
I’ve always kind of associated Jillian as raws top Heel because she has always got such a strong reaction from the crowd, more so than Maryse i think.
I loved the time this match got and shows just how talented this girls are.

@Karl- If we go by crowd reactions, then we can absolutely say Jillian Hall is RAW’s top heel Diva. Maryse on the other hand, is very good looking. So you know how that goes…
SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS- – - – – – – – –
I have to say though, for 99.9% of the time I dislike Maryse, her return as the “Gobbledy Gooker(?)” was well thought out. She has atleast a comedic/quirky side to her. If I wasn’t so observant I would have never guessed it to be her. When she pranced her way down the ramp in disguise, for a sec I thought. “That has to be Maryse..” then I concluded. “Nah..they couldn’t have put this much creativity towards a Diva return.” Besides I didn’t think Maryse would do something so out of character. I loved it and I forgot how much I hated her for a minute.
Eve is a beautiful girl. And I think she’s got the potential to be a good worker. She strikes me as a very charming kind of gal and if she sticks around long enough; she can end up being something special. I’m impressed by her moonsaults and pretty dropkicks. She’s got what it takes IMHO.
Don’t get me wrong. I still think Gail Kim and Jillian Hall should be the ones featured on RAW every week. Though I can’t help but to think that as good as Gail Kim is, she has been known to mess things up from time to time. It was only a few months ago she and Mickie James were wrestling a nice bout. The ending was ugly, as Gail Kim might have slightly concussed herself during a dive off the top rope. I was excited to see these two go at it, all the while worried that they were going to hurt each other. The timing was off or something. Truly dissapointing for their first TV battle. But hey, as Ivory says, “Not everyone hits every punch in a real fight, so why should you expect it in a fake one?”
Jillian Hall I’ve loved since I saw her on Smackdown as JBL’s image consultant? She was gaining good pops from the crowd when she went against Melina. Jillian was like Molly Holly all over again, too bad they decided to use her as comedic relief-much like Molly. Hopefully that pattern continues, and like Molly, they can give her atleast one long reign as a Champion..God knows she deserves one.
-Note- For anyone who cares/ It has been reported that some Mickie James fans were ejected from the arena last Monday for carrying signs such as “James Gang Fans For Life” and somekind of “Riot” message. What happened to freedom of speech? Are they really still going ahead with this shit? They want to control the people that pay to go see the shows too? I saw when they did it to Lita and that was disgusting to watch. I feel as though WWE is a microism of the United States government-seriously its starting to seem that way. Pathetic @ssholes
Yes very good match. I say at Over the Limit we see a Triple Threat or even a Fatal Four Way to change it up a bit.
@ Pourquoi-bitch: I think we might see a Fatal-4-Way at the PPV of the same name in May. I know all matches won’t be that type of match, but hopefully we’ll see one Divas title defended there.
I’d only seen the end of the match before the Redux and I liked it because it wasn’t your traditional ending, it was something different and I really liked it. The match had loads of cool spots aswell, I liked Jillian getting her knees up when Gail went to crossbody her, and Gail sold every move to perfection. Love it. :-)
This is why I sometimes prefer Superstars over RAW. This is where they allow Divas the proper stage to get some good time and not be an after-thought to the Cenas, Ortons and Bitctistas. This was a great match and the crowd really seemed into it. That Divas title should be on Gail and the top RAW heel. At the very least they could have sent Jillian to Smackdown as the head jobber instead of Rosa (I so hated writing that). Both Gail and Jillian deserve better than to play second fiddle to Maryse and Eve.

WWE has to move forward not backward. Jazz is a great wrestler, but she is 36 years old. She can easily still put on good matches, but how long would she stay in WWE? WWE needs to bring in talented indy wrestlers in their 20s, like Jennifer Blake, Jessie McKay, Portia Perez, Nicole Matthews, Cat Power, Tenile, Athena. Those girls are the future of womens wrestling.
That was a nice refresher for what the Divas can really do. I enjoyed that there was more story to this match and not just a bunch of moves packed into one. Gail and Jillian had some really nice spots and I’m glad both got a decent reaction.
We need to see more of this.
Awsome match. WWE has the potential, they just neglect to use it. And Gail was getting a huge reaction as was Jillian, wasnt expecting a chant. Cool how she is getting over without getting any taped segments. Pure talent.
amazing match , one of the best of the year so far, by two of the best only wish jillian would be pushed afterall she is beautifull, great wrestler and draws the most heat plus she is the only one with a gimmick wake up wwe!!
Great long match, but it annoys me how they are used mostly on Superstars. They deserve so much more…They’re both championship material for sure.

Keep in mind they are getting a good reaction because it was probably the first match of the night for the audience. Fans will dig whatever is on the first hour. But also keep in mind, that Fatal Four Way isn’t this month, it’s Over the Limit (whatever that is) on May 23rd. I got tickets so it better be a good show.

Cant believe we are having matches like this on superstars, while on Raw the A-show we get Eve vs Maryse in a two-minute crapfest. It should be the other way round.
that was a good match.. raw, superstars, and smackdown this week have a good match. and impact isn’t too shabby either. ahhh its like eating in a good restaurant. no complaint! :)

How can WWE watch this and give people like Rosa, Kelly and The Bellas all the air time. Gail and Jillian are Raw’s jobbers and it makes me mad because these 2 are great and we have Maryse abd Eve on Raw messing up evary move they do.

My wishes for the Divas Championship is:
Jillian def. Eve (Jillian new champ)
Natalya def Jillian (Natayla new champ)
Alicia def. Gail, Jillian & Natayla (Alicia new champ because it would be unpredictable and refreshing to see a new face)
Melina def. Alicia (Melina new champ)
Then contine the Maryse vs Melina feud
and then whatever.
Oops, sorry to include Gail: After the Maryse/Melina feud is over with Eve would defeat Maryse and then gail would have her heel turn and defeat Eve to be Divas Champ!

Very good match! Even though WWE won’t, I’m wishing that they’ll let divas such as Gail, Jillian, Alicia, etc, have some decent time on RAW. The focus on there lately has been Eve and Maryse and I believe that other divas should get some spotlight too. I know some are tired of hearing me say this but this match is much better than other diva matches on RAW lately and I think that’s mostly because that Superstars has more time for matches on there, unlike RAW who really don’t give a rat’s patootie about the women, only their SNL-like segments and matches.
Eve and Maryse should take notes. This is how you get the crowd involved! It’s rare that the crowd be so alive during a divas match nowadays, so this was great! It had nice ending to. The Eat Defeat is one of my favorite finishers right now. It’s very rare that a diva pull off such an original finisher.
As for Jillian, I really want her to win a match some time soon. How could somebody so beautiful and talented be used as a jobber? Sure, Jillian isn’t the prettiest diva in the WWE, but she is one of the most talented. Think about it. Melina and Mickie are both phenomonal in the ring, sure, but if they didn’t have their good looks, the WWE wouldn’t even hire them. It’s becoming obvious that the women’s division is dying. Right now it’s on life support.
This was a pretty good match. I’ll be honest, I’ve always been a Jillian mark. I haven’t been too impressed with anything she’s done in awhile (in-ring wise) but I think in this match, she showed that she can go in the ring and she should definitely be used better.

You can’t really compare the two until Eve and Maryse wrestle on Superstars or get the chance to have a longer match. On Superstars, they use fake crowd noise, so even if the crowd was completely dead live, they’ll be loud when the match airs.
This match is a good example because, if you watched on television in HD, the “loud” crowd sounds very different from a hot crowd during Raw or a PPV.
Gail and Jillian RULE!They proved how pathetic wrestlers Eve,Bella and Kelly are.
