Former WWE Diva and TNA Knockout, Shelly Martinez who has been actively campaigning for a return to TNA, posted the following on her Twitter page today:

So [Director of Talent Relations] Terry Taylor said there is no opportunity at TNA for me :(

Tough break for Shelly. I personally think she has a great look and a fun personality, so it’s a shame that TNA isn’t interested in her this go around as she could provide a nice diverse look compared to The Beautiful People and Angelina Love.

Meanwhile, there are rumours making the rounds about Lizzy Valentine possibly getting a tryout with the company. We have yet to verify this, however.

  1. This is sad, I agree she could of brought a difference to the beatiful people and such. Shame.

  2. That was way harsh, Terry.

  3. GOOD! Gee how quickly you all forget, do you not remember Shelly Martinez QUITTING because she wanted to go film a horror movie, then demanding more money from TNA Wrestling in order for her to turn down the movie? Maybe Shelly should have remembered that walking out on a contract and then demanding more money does not get you anywhere in professional wrestling. She has NO talent and would have been another waste of space.

  4. I know she said she will not go back to the WWE but I personally think she should be more open to a WWE return since the main reason she was released (Batista) is leaving at the end of the month. I know I will get heat for this statement but I have always been a fan of her unique look even though she is not the best in-ring worker.

  5. disappointed. i really like shelly. i guess it was a bad day for her to talk to taylor, considering they just hired somebody new. good luck to her pursuit nevertheless!

  6. sorry shelly

  7. The only role I would want to see her in at any promotion is a valet. Her “wrestling” has left a LOT to be desired. LOL! But I agree that she has a good look and can play a number of character types.

  8. “Gee how quickly you all forget, do you not remember Shelly Martinez QUITTING because she wanted to go film a horror movie, then demanding more money from TNA Wrestling in order for her to turn down the movie? ”

Don’t forget throwing her with one of the biggest acts at the time, LAX.

Personally, I never got the Shelly buzz. Maybe because I always thought she looked trashy instead of sexy.. Then again, I really don’t care to see chicks tattoo’d.

  9. On a possitive note, Terry wasn’t telling her that she will never come back. its a good thing that shes not signed and being wasted doing nothing like hamanda.

Lizzy valintine isnt that back actally, ive seen her training with juventud gurreo and she can pull off she really flashy moves. Though i haven’t actually seen a match of hers that ive liked. :|

  10. And we are sad why?
I only liked one move she ever did and that was her WWE finisher the Chokehold STO and she made it look like crap.

  11. I agree with TNAFan80, she had quit on TNA for some movie (which never came out to my knowledge) I don’t blame TNA for not wanting her to come back. If you’re not going to be 100% committed, then she doesn’t need to be there or anywhere for that matter.

  12. That’s a shame, Shelly’s look is unique and she has a real personality. She’s not the most techincal wrestler but she can go, so she’d be a better manager than full time wrestler.

  13. Daffney fills the “alternative hot chick” quota more adequately than Shelly did. And she wrestles far better than her too. So, honestly, I’m not surprised.

  14. I feel bad for her but I’m glad they don’t want her back because I never liked her or saw much potential in her. That’s just me.

  15. Also, I wonder if Shelly’s open use of marijuana (if I’m correct, that is) has anything to do with TNA’s rejection.

  16. I like Shelly….she has a unique look, and while shes not the best in ring performer, she can hold her own! With losing Kong, Melissa, and Tara and Daffney out of action, they need to think about bringing in some more Knockouts!

As far as Lizzy Valentine, she would be a great addition to the roster…look up her video training with Juventud Guerrero…hes teaching her some good stuff! She posted on Facebook that shes heard the rumors on various sites about her getting another tryout…but said shes heard NOTHING from TNA about it!!

  17. Eff TNA, Shelly is awesome. She sweet and obviously gorgeous! And to adifferentsame, I have 3 letters for you “RVD”. Also RVD and Shelly are good friends as are Shelly and Jeff Hardy/Val/half the roster, I’m suprised no one helped put her name out there for Terry/… I HATE Terry >:(

    Shelly>Stupid TBP

  18. Tbh, she deserves this. If she was talented enough, she’d work her arse off and prove she’s worthy of a place in the company instead of getting fans to campaign on Twitter.

  19. Like Awesome Kong once said … KARMA IS A BITCH and this time it came back to bite Shelly Martinez in the ass.

  20. @adifferentsame

“I wonder if Shelly’s open use of marijuana (if I’m correct, that is) has anything to do with TNA’s rejection.”

They have RVD & Jeff Hardy on their roster, I think it’s safe to say TNA doesn’t care if their wrestlers do recreational drugs.

Anyway as to the Shelly/TNA thing, the thing in my mind is considering we;ve heard tales of how crappy TNA pays their knockouts, I wouldn’t consider any of them asking for more cash to skip a different (probably better paying) job to be a bad thing.

So I’m sorry to not see Shelly back, I’d definitely take her over some of the current Knockout roster…both in looks and in watching in the ring.

  21. adifferentsame wrote: “Also, I wonder if Shelly’s open use of marijuana (if I’m correct, that is) has anything to do with TNA’s rejection.”

Half the TNA roster has a past linked to drugs, so i doubt that has anything to do with their decision.

  22. I kinda like Shelly, so I’m a bit disappointed. But oh well…

  23. But I’m really glad about Lizzy Valentine getting a tryout match. Instead of signing that Betsy thing, they should have signed her way sooner. I really enjoyed her WSX work.

  24. Sad for Shelly, yet it can be considered a smart decision. She was given an opportunity and then put that opportunity in the garbage just to film a movie. She could have tried to do both things, even though is hard.

  25. @Mikas: Fair point, but it wouldn’t be the first time double standards existed in wrestling.

  26. “She was given an opportunity and then put that opportunity in the garbage just to film a movie.”

Thats not exactly how it went. TNA was paying her very poorly, so that she could barely pay her rent. Then the movie came up so she could make some extra money, but it’s schedule conflicted with a TNA PPV, so she had to give up the movie and loose out of being able to pay the rent, or leave TNA. So bottom line is, it was a financial conflict where TNA underpays it’s knockouts (sounds familiar?)

  27. Mikas, Shelly didn’t do much but throw up the LAX sign and do a VERY poor job at acting all “street tough”. Wait, she hit Christy with a sock a couple of times.

I am really started to wonder if the people complaining about the Knockouts pay understand how much they did or do in the show. People like Gail and Kong? Yeah. I can understand that. But just like with the guys, not every chick they employ is worth the price.

  28. Mikas – It’s called downgrading your lifestyle. Knockouts, such as Taylor Wilde, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky are capable of supporting their lifestyle, so why can’t Shelly? Yes, she may have been payed less because she was a valet, but that’s because her talent in the ring is terrible for lack of better words. If the woman desired getting paid the same salary as the actual wrestling Knockouts, then she should have made an effort to train and became a better wrestler, but to my knowledge that never happen. And just for the record, I have no clue if valets get paid less than actual wrestlers, but my assumption would be that they do. Furthermore, a talentless in the ring Knockout, who hadn’t bothered training to become a better wrestler wanted a raise? That’s humorous…

Now, in all honesty, Shelly didn’t add anything to the Knockouts division when she was apart of it. She played a jobber when she wrestled and a valet. Obviously, the jobber role can easily be filled by someone else and valet’s aren’t necessary. To an extent, a valet in TNA doesn’t last very long, because valet’s just don’t.

However, I will compliment Shelly on the awesome stable that she accompanied. Though I don’t understand how someone can say that it’s a bad move to hire someone, who quit and doesn’t have talent in the ring, I can respect that. And to those who feel the desire to challenge by bringing up talentless Knockouts, such as Lacey, my opinion doesn’t change. Lacey’s talentless and shouldn’t have been hired, that’s one talentless Knockout too many. The last thing I want to hear about is another one.

  29. Oh, my opinion on talented Knockouts, such as Kong and Gail Kim differ from my opinion about Shelly. Kong and Gail deserved raises in my opinion, since they were top Knockouts.

  30. Did she not leave TNA
to do a movie? So, why does
she think that TNA is going to
    pick her back up?

Besides Shally is a beautiful girl, but if
I was tna I wouldn’t want her back.

  31. error:

    Shelly…

  32. WWEDivaFan09 wrote: “Furthermore, a talentless in the ring Knockout, who hadn’t bothered training to become a better wrestler”

Talentless? She does a Tornado DDT, sitout facebuster, hurricaranas and moves from the toprope, just to name a few. She recieved training from Bill deMott, Al Snow, American Dragon, Lance Storm and the Ballard Brothers in UPW/OVW/Inoki Dojo/WEW. She might not exactly be a very good technical wrestler, but she is far from talentless. And definately better than a Lacey, Velvet Skye, Maryse or a Bella. But people only “know” her from her time in ECW and TNA where she was mostly valeting.

  33. I don’t blame TNA not being interested in her,, I was never interested in her when she was in ECW or TNA. She has a unique look but isn’t the greatest in ring worker. TNA is better off focusing their energies in spending money on hiring Mickie James and Katie Lea!!

  34. Mikas – Naming wrestling moves that the woman can do doesn’t make her talented, sorry. I’ve seen her in action in WEW and all of the other circuits that she was apart of in her early years as a professional wrestler and in my opinion, she wasn’t good there either. Infact, I’ve seen her on Youtube in her early years and she sucked in my opinion. Comparing and contrasting her early years to her later years as a wrestler, I don’t see progression in her moves. Hell, she did Tornado DDT’s and Hurricaranas when she was apart of TNA, and I wasn’t impressed. People are clearly going to have different opinions on Shelly’s career, but Shelly wasn’t an impressive wrestler in my opinion at all.

Lacey and Shelly are equally terrible to me. The only difference is that Lacey wasn’t given a variety of wrestling moves, such as Shelly. To be quite honest, I compare Shelly’s talent to that of Ashley Massaro. Yes, she had good microphone skills but she wasn’t talented at all.

  35. if they recjected her because of her “LifeStyle Choice” ?…..HypoCrites!!!(RVD? Hello?)if it was for the movie thing…You’d think TNA Would want their people to expand their profile in any way possible hell, they should’ve promoted it on Impact if they were smart. And there are a lot of people past and present in the business
just having a “great look”(Sid Vicious made a CAREER out of it for chrissakes)
and the chick CAN work..i could see a tag team situation with Daffeny that would invigorate the KO Tag Scene….i now see why this idiot Terry Taylor didn’t go past
lower mid-card status in the big leagues…..”Red Rooster” can go “peck” himself

  36. Shelly has a unique look and a quirky personality, I really liked her. I was hoping to see more of Ariel in ECW and then they fired her. That pissed me right off. I was barely getting into her and then they let her go. That’s a big problem I’ve got with WWE. How do they expect us to get into their storylines and attached to their characters when they pull the plug on them..just when they’re about to pick up steam…those @holes!

I didn’t mind “Salinas” in TNA either. Shelly reminds me of a certain ex Diva with her unique qualities. There was a brawl she had with Jacqueline at ringside once, that was entertaining.

Terry Taylor is one odd individual. Wasn’t he the one pushing for “Lita” to get signed in WWE back in 99? Lita didn’t have the typical diva look McMahon was used to hiring. They had Luna which they later implied her to be a “cartoonish” character in a segment awhile back. And ofcourse Chyna was the Glamazon of that time. Ofcourse Vince Russo was the one to say Amy Dumas was garbage and they couldn’t do anything with her. We know what happened later that year. Maybe it does have something to do with the way she(Shelly M) left TNA. She’s not horrible is all I’m saying. I mean she’s no worse than TBP in my honest opinion. Its all politics! Arrrghhh..

  37. MIKAS: On one hand, I do like Shelly’s look. I think it stands out. It’s a debatable kind of beauty. I’ve met some people who think that she is “ugly” but on the other hand, there are those who thinks she is gorgeous. However, I still do not think that she is that good in the ring.

I’ve seen her work in the indies and I’ve seen her work in TNA. It appears that she is interested in pro-wrestling. You can tell that she wants to succeed to a respectable degree just by judging her moveset (especially the ones she did in WEW) and she is not as deprived in terms of natural agility and flexibility when you compare her to people like, let’s say Lita.

But my problem with her is that every time she gets in the ring, she always seems, I don’t know… apprehensive. That hurts the selling of some of her moves–like that crossbody she did on Jaqueline, that hurricanrana she once did on Mercedes Martinez, etc. Even her Tornado DDT on Roxxi was a bit bad in terms of landing because she didn’t stick with it. I do recall that she landed on her knees. It’s like she’s always avoiding the solid impact way too much. Her brawling also needs a little work since her hits are not very convincing.

I do like her facebuster though. That’s probably my favorite version of that particular move. I don’t think it’s a sit out though. This is the one where she runs to an opponent, clings on them and swings back right? Yup. I like that one.

That said, I agree with some of your points. She is DEFINITELY more entertaining to watch than some of the girls in TNA and WWE. She’s better in the ring compared to Lacey Von Erich, Maryse and Velvet.

But overall, I can understand (though I do like her) why some people just wouldn’t bother to give this girl another chance.

  38. I had forgotten that Batista was behind her release, isn’t it funny, I also heard he was one of the reasons Mickie was released too. How interesting
