Unfortunately it’s not good news for WWE Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix. The Glamazon has been diagnosed with a torn ACL after suffering an injury at last week’s SmackDown tapings in a match against Rosa Mendes.
It had been hoped that the injury was a minor ankle injury and Beth was taken off last week’s Mexican tour in order to rest up and return in time for this week’s SmackDown taping in her hometown of Buffalo, New York. However it became apparent that the injury is much more severe than first thought. Sources suggest that Phoenix could be out of action for an upward of six months.
Fans will see how WWE handles her injury on tomorrow’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
Phoenix’s injury is the same one that fellow three-time Women’s Champion, Melina is currently on the sidelines with.
Our best wishes go out to Beth on a speedy recovery!

Damn, that sucks. First Edge, then Melina, now Beth. Is the torn ACL the new cool injury to have, like the broken neck was 10 years ago?

I hope that when Melina comes back, she goes to SD! or the division will sink. I hope Beth will get better and now I understand her title lost. Get well Glamazon and come back to show us you’re awesomeness.

Such a shame. She just turned face, won the title, and bam she gets injured. Guess we will she her later this year or early 2011. I wonder if they’ll have someone from RAW move over to Smackdown to lead the division for the faces. My guess would be Melina since she should be back soon. Get well soon Beth!
Nooooo Omgosh I’ve know what it’s like suffering a torn ACL!! I’m so shocked she’s the main reason I tune in too Smackdown… I wish her all the best and for her to not rush her recovery. *GlamaHug*
This so sucks! I cannot help to wonder how smackdown shall play this though.

Bad news for SmackDown now, we will soon expect to hear on our screens, ‘the WWE Womans Champion… Kelly Kell?’ =-\ That would really be the downfall of the WWE divas, I’d rather it be Tiffany or Serena, even Marosa to Kelly of all people! xD

Kelly & Tiffany are the only babyfaces on smackdown, they are both green & are in need of another babyface & ive got the perfect diva.. MELINA, shes not that far off returning, & Raw has Natalya, Gail, bellas & eve so with another face on raw would get lost in the shuffle so send Melina to Smackdown.
its almost as though becoming womens/divas champion is cursed! in the past year and a half, michelle mccool, maryse, melina and beth have all been seriously injured within days of becoming champion!

That sucks. Although I’m not a big fan of her, I respect her work and I surely know that she carried the SmackDown! diva division for the last couple of months. I wish her a speedy recovery!

DAMN IT!!! First Melina -> Title got vacated ; then Mickie -> lost her title and now Beth -> lost her title. It’s like a f***ing curse. I just hope she recovers a.s.a.p. I already miss her :..-(
Well…what’s happening now? Either they wait until Melina returns and trade her to SmackDown! or Gail/Natalya will switch brands. I hope Gail changes sites but I don’t believe it.

The three letters no female athlete wants to hear…ACL. As a women’s basketball fan (UCONN) I have seen and heard about players getting an ACL tear thus ending their season.

This is just horrible! First Melina and now Beth. Two of WWE’s top Divas are out with the same injury, and Kelly Kelly is the only babyface Diva they have to work with on the blue brand. This is not good at all. They should have moved Gail to SD during the draft. This could have been her chance to get the push she deserves.
Looks like we won’t be seeing Beth until November/December of this year, or possibly early 2011. Such a shame because Beth just turned face, just won the title, and it was looking to be a pretty good reign for her. Damn it.
I think Melina needs to go to SmackDown to help even out the brands but I really don’t want to see a Melina vs. Michelle feud again. Their first storyline lasted long enough. I would prefer Gail on SD to be put in a storyline with Michelle. They work great together so we would get some good matches from them.

I hope the WWE brings someone from Raw to smackdown (Gail Kim) or has Melina debut on smackdown when she returns because right now, with Beth now hurt like this, there is not a top babyfact. i am sorry but Kelly Kelly does not do it for me. Seems the smackdown divison will be struggling for awhile. I hope Beth has a very speedy recovery.

This is so sad. She was at the top of her game. She had an outstanding pop every time she went out to the ring. She is, by far, the only Diva who personifies “Smart.Sexy.Powerful.” Kudos to her for working with a bad leg, it takes guts to do that which only shows how committed she is to the business. Let’s all pray that she won’t have to be out longer than 6 months, if not less than 6 months.
*David may be pissed, but at least he can say that at some point in both his and Beth’s life, they had the same injury.
the whole scenario reminded me alot of melinas first injuries..both were turning faces and getting alot of reactions, full force on their prime then bam! injured! ugh!. somehow though i have a feeling that melina will go back again to smackdown to replace beth. either that or its time for laylas to shine.. which is muchos deserving!

This brings up a very interesting topic. Real wrestling = real injuries. Is this why the WWE holds some of the girls back from wrestling? Think about it. If they wrestle well, that leads to injuries, which leads to them being out 6 months or more at at time. If they tone it down, they will likely not get injured as often and be available for live shows more reliably. This might be why Maryse rarely wrestles, they want to make sure she’s not injured, since they need her on TV. This bring up a very interesting topic.
Damn! I was looking forward to seeing her in New Zealand in August and now I won’t be able to. Nonetheless, I sincerely hope that she has a quick recovery.

Guys this kind of crap happens. In their line of business after hours and hours of vigorous training and then going out there every night doing house shows and live events their bound to have injuries at some point. It totally sucks cause I was enjoying having a new champion but now she is out on injury so McCool is the only one worthy to hold the championship until Beth comes back or either they give another diva a push. (Which I don’t think Tiffany nor Kelly are ready.) So either they need to bring back the good talent they let go (Mickie and Katie lea) or draft one of the good ones from RAW. Cause currently if Beth is out on injury then Michelle is the only truly skilled wrestler on Smackdown and her championship reign wont be as awesome as the first time she won it. I for one love the laycool thing but im ready to see McFabulous take back her crown and go solo again :) Get well soon beth we will miss you!

So what the hell all we need now is for Gail Kim or Michelle to get injured, this totally sucks major balls. Seems like the divas are falling like flys it the video it really didn’t seem like that bad of an injury like a twisted ankle but nope man, with beth out wwe has to start moving some divas up and some divas over maybe bring Aj and Gail to Smackdown cuz having Kelly x2 and TIffany hold the fort as the face divas, including Layla if she did win that title aint gonna work in my opinion.

WWE likely does want Maryse to take it easy as they have her working more house shows than any other Diva in the company.
Sucks to hear about Beth. I believe this is her first major injury since her brief, initial babyface run in 2006. Strange that it was the exact same type of injury that got Melina.
Knowing how hard headed the wwe is, I predict a belt unification soon… They are 2 stupid to bring back mickie and its to late to make more drafts in my opinion… especially since the draft just happened… unification makes sense since then the belt can travel anywhere which will mostly be smackdown
Ok lets not panic since WWE doesnt have anymore top wrestlers on SD (or in the entire WWE now with Melina injured too) ( n no to me Mccool is not a top wrestler… she was a teacher) anyway this injurie doesnt mean wwe have to take Beth out of tv i mean if they want the fans to get interested in divas they should keep her on tv (its not like the fans are gonna get interested on matches with KK and Tiff, and no im not saying they are bad but ppl wutched this story line because Beth was THE only diva that mccool cosidered a threat to her after Mickie was gonne of course. we all know if KK and Tiff are left alone on SD they are gonna get torned by laycool and vickie Beth was kinda like a bodyguard to them, you see what happen on superstars BG when KK was bein “attacked” by laycool and vickie? it only took Beth to come into the picture in order for laycool to let go of KK and if you listen right Layla even say “sorry” before all of them leave! they need Beth on tv and thats it.) plus look whats going on with Matt hardy Hes supposetly “injured” and hes still on tv not in matches but in backstage segments and In-ring segments adn the fans get to see him this injury doesnt mean Beth will be aout of TV they can use her in backstage segments, if the spoilers are true n Mccool got the championship even though layla was the one that won the match Beth can come in the picture and be used as the one that turned Mccool on layla or vise versa you know like sayign “uh layla dont u feel mad that mccool got the champonship, if i remember right you re the one that won the match and mccool was nowere to be seen” or something like that you know making layla turned face and be against mccool until Beths ok to return to the ring.
Anyways I hope Beth is ok n I pray for her speedy recovery! the entire wwe wont be the same without her. i mean she broke her jaw and returned like nothing had happpend n during the first year she was unstopable nobody could beat her n she won her first WC, this isnt gonna stop her at all! They need to just start over with the woman division. The Mickie James/Beth Phoenix/Melina generation, if you want to call it that, has sucked and is totally overrated. I honestly can’t remember any match from the last four years that has really stood out, or will stand the test of time. These women simply aren’t that popular. Bringing back women like Mickie or Tara is pointless, I have already seen what they have to offer, and I’m not impressed anymore.
I don’t think Michelle will be on top for much longer, Maryse is a joke, and Kelly really hasn’t shown any desire to improve. The solution? Phase out the women that have been around since 2005/2006. Keep girls like Eve and Tiffany around. Bring in Kong, and start scouting the indies. Remember, as huge as Trish and Lita were, they were only around for 6 years. Anybody close to that should expect to be gone in the near future. Go younger, bring in fresh faces, and just start over. Every diva that has held the title more than a couple of times have already peaked, it’s time to move on from them.
I hope Beth recovers and gets one last shot in WWE, but I don’t expect her to be with the company by the end of 2011. Same goes for Melina. Michelle, well, that all depends on Undertaker.
With Katie/Mickie released, and Melina/Beth injured, they dont have much skilled divas left right now. Jillian, Gail Kim and Michelle are the only 3 that can carry their opponents to a good match. Naturally you also have Natalya/Savannah/Serena, but they dont wrestle so they dont really count. So time for some big changes.
Serena is a heel, so having her wrestle wouldn’t help SD much. They could either move Gail to SD, hire Kong for SD or move Melina to SD.
