Three-time WWE Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix has posted a lengthy blog on her injury, which as reported earlier in the week was much more severe than first thought — Phoenix tore her ACL. She writes:

Two weeks ago on Superstars, I had a match against new SmackDown Diva, Rosa Mendes. During the course of the match I was able to reverse an Irish Whip into the corner and counter Rosa with an Up and Over maneuver where I jump out of the turnbuckle, over her and show her what The Glamazon is made of. However, when I landed, feet side by side, as I have thousands of times over the course of my career, my left knee buckled to the side and I heard a very distinctive, “Crunch.”

My first instinct was to retain the WWE Women’s Championship at all costs and found the opportunity to dodge Rosa’s attack and get the pinfall victory. However, as I tried to stand to get my hand raised, I could tell something was definitely not right.

I was immediately examined by our WWE medical staff whom decided it would be a good idea to get things checked via an MRI. As I sat in the doctor’s office, waiting for the results, all I could think about was the WWE Women’s Championship and how I was not about to let anything get in the way of working to bring prestige to the title that I cherish so dearly.

Then I received the devastating news. My injury was much worse than I would let myself believe. The doctor explained that I had a generous bone bruise, torn and displaced Meniscus, sprained my MCL and had completely torn my ACL. The prognosis from him … surgery.

Beth continues that she will be having surgery on Tuesday to repair her knee. Read the full blog here.

Our thoughts are with you, Beth!

  1. Great blog about some very sad soon.

Unfortunately Beth heard the sound I was talking about.

    Get better soon!

  2. Sad NEWS (oops)

  3. Horrible news. But I’m sure when she’s back she will fight so much harder to get back where she left off. Get well soon Beth.

  4. :( it must hurt losing a championship as soon as you win it, poor beth that injury sounds real bad, I’m amazed she was able to lift Layla and Michelle let alone wrestle, this just makes me love Beth more

  5. I loved her blog. She somehow manages to stay in character but is still genuine. You can tell that she spoke from the heart and that the pain of having to drop the title hurt far more than her phsical pain. I am counting the days until she makes her triumphant return. We love you, Beth! Get well soon.

  6. Very sad news. I hope SD! knows how to deal with this. The list of things they should, in my opinion, do:

    - A Laycool/Simply Flawless feud. The top Divas on SD! at this moment are Michelle and Layla. With Layla has champion, they could easily turn her face after Michelle attacked her, claiming that she stole her title. Simple and it would be entertaining for awhile.
    - Give Rosa Mendes the role of Michelle’s new sidekick. Simply because we would need other heel besides Michelle (I’m still not sure about Vickie’s situation, but unfortunately she’s needed as the villainous manager of SF).
    - Layla becomes Kelly’s ally. Kelly would be the jobber face of the duo. The reason is quite similar to Rosa’s and it would gives us more matches options.
    - Side Tiffany with whoever will feud with the Straight Edge Society next. This would be a great opportunity to allow the greatness that Serena is to actually wrestle and it would break away from having always the same matches. We wouldn’t need Layla Michelle, Kelly and Rosa to wrestle every week. However in the weeks they would put Tiffany and Serena wrestling, they should do backstage segments of the girls in order to build up the feud. The same should be done when Tiffany and Serena didn’t have matches.

    Other option:
    - Bring Gail or Jillian. They need a very good competitor besides Michelle. The choice should be on the girl they needed the most: the heel or the face.
    - Wait for Melina’s return. Put her on SD! While that happened continue the original line, even though I believe that Layla NEEDS to feud Michelle.

  7. =( This sucks
    Get well soon Beth!

  8. I love how she’s mastered the art of kayfabe :D :D

Beth’s performance on SD was really courageous and she managed to hoist both Simply Flawless members over her shoulders. It really sucks because she was starting to get over as a face very well. What a fighter.

Hope her surgery is a complete success. Get better soon Glamazon!!! She’s such a major asset to the Divas.

  9. I cant wait until Da Glamazon Returns Nd Kicks Sum A**!

I read a article that wwe is thinking of spilting up Lay-Cool nd havin them fued but I kinda like Layla as Heel , I think she stands out more as a heel..I also heard that they mite bring back Melina when she is cleared to wrestle in June!

  10. Get well soon, Glamazon. Sucks to see this happen to her.

  11. Even with the torn ACL, I still think Beth can run to the ring faster than Eve.

  12. lol @Spiffy! The crunch I cringe whenever I see that word associated with ACL tear. It’s an uncomfortable reality in the word of wrestling or sports in general. My heart goes out to Beth same as Melina because I’ve been there as well. You can tell how much that championship means and I know she’s devastated. I didn’t want to believe that the Glamazon could suffer the dreaded ACL tear, but I know she’ll come back with a renewed passion. Thus I wish her a great recovery she’s my wrestling idol!

  13. Damn that sucks! Let us hope that she recovers quickly.

  14. Damn shame, coming at a time like this..well hell, any time this happens it sucks period. Poor Beth! I saw on a lot of sites people blaming Rosa, but watching the match I didn’t see how Rosa had anything to do with her injury. I’m glad Beth set the record straight here.

But then to go out and perform like she did at the SD tapings…what a woman! Hoping for a speedy but full recovery for the Glamazon!

  15. All the best to beth in the up coming surgery!
    Get better soon!
