Having followed Layla from the beginning of her WWE career all those years ago during the WWE Diva Search, I always saw a certain something in her — I just felt that this girl was something special. Here at Diva Dirt, we’ve championed her for pretty much all of our existence; from her fashion sense, to her ever-improving in-ring skills and the personality that she easily oozes into her matches and skits. Never however, did I think I’d see the day that she’d hold the same belt that has been held by greats such as Trish, Lita and Victoria — especially not this soon.
It’s been a topsy-turvy week for the SmackDown brand; the Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix injured during last week’s taping and this week, the whole landscape of the brand was turned on its head. Watch below:
The segment opens with Rosa Mendes in the ring for a match with the homecoming queen, the Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix appearing before her hometown crowd in Buffalo, New York. The Glamazon gets an amazing response from the crowd… just wow. I don’t think I’ve heard a response like that for a Diva in years! There is some emphasis put on the fact that Beth was hurt during her match with Rosa last week on WWE Superstars, including a close-up on her Tara-like knee brace. Beth is ready to face Rosa but out comes Vickie Guerrero who reveals two things: A) that she is still the Official Consultant of SmackDown despite being the new Raw General Manager and B) that Beth will have to defend her Women’s Championship right now against Michelle McCool who has invoked her rematch clause — but it will also be a handicap match with Layla also in the match. Err, what was the point in having Rosa on the show in the first place? Surely, Vickie could’ve come out first, made her speech and then Beth could have come out? I guess it’s a case of any excuse to get a pretty face on the show…
Out come Team Lay-Cool who mock Beth’s knee injury as the make their way down the ramp. The match begins and we are told that this will be a tornado rules match with both Layla and Michelle in the ring at the same time. Michelle is the first to go after Beth, going right at Beth’s injured knee with a kick and then clubbing her across the back. Michelle applies a side headlock which Beth soon breaks free of and whips Michelle into the ropes and barges her down to the canvas. Meanwhile from behind, Layla is ready for some action but Beth turns around just in time and Layla walks into a clothesline.
Beth now begins work on Layla but is chop-blocked in the back of the injured knee by McCool. Michelle kicks Beth across the back of the knee but is then shoved down to the mat by Phoenix. Layla then runs into a back elbow. Beth now begins fighting off both Divas with blows but the cunning McCool again goes after the knee taking her down. Lay-Cool begin double teaming Beth, backing her into the corner where Michelle stretches the injured knee out over the middle rope applying pressure to it. Beth then begins to struggle free, hitting Michelle’s head off the turnbuckle but then turns around to deal with Layla. This gives Michelle momentum to climb the ropes, wrap her legs around Beth’s neck and begin choking her. Layla tries to come at Beth but gets a kick in the stomach. Beth then begins to fight free and hoists Layla onto her shoulders and then somehow, miraculously — especially given that she’s injured — piles Michelle on top. What a sight and what a feat from the injured Glamazon. Beth hits a Samoan drop on Lay-Cool before immediately clutching her knee and writhing in pain.
Beth struggles to cover Layla for a pin but she eventually does, however McCool breaks up the count. Michelle begins stomping at the knee before picking up Beth and attempting to whip her into the corner, Beth reverses and Michelle goes into the corner but manages to stop herself by using her leg. She then turns and runs at Beth, the two Divas then end up barging into each other and both end up going down with McCool flying out of the ring.
This leaves the coast clear for Layla to scamper in and pin Beth for the 1, 2, 3 and become the NEW WWE Women’s Champion!
After picking up the win, the new champion begins shrieking at her victory. You know Layla, most girls would cry when they win the belt. Layla’s shrieks of joy as I shall call them, were pretty funny though. Layla celebrates with her Simply Flawless teammates, Vickie and Michelle. Meanwhile in the ring, Beth looks heartbroken as she clutches her knee in the corner having just lost the Women’s Title in her hometown.
Where to begin? Let’s start with the match. Obviously, anytime you have a handicap match, especially with all of the ladies in the ring at the same time, it’s not going to be the most technical match and it’s not going to look that great. This match wasn’t by any means up to the standard that we have become accustomed to for Women’s Championship bouts but it wasn’t the most important thing here. The crowd however, were very into the match due to the hometown girl’s involvement and the stunned silence after Layla won the belt, a disbelief as it were, was just an amazing moment. Shocking your crowd into such a silence is not an easy feat — especially since they were so into the bout and were so vocal for Beth. That really was a DVR moment for me. The crowd were just in disbelief and awe and it just shows what a shocker this was for them to see their hometown girl lose the belt like that. That to me was even more powerful than cheers or boos.
Next, how about a huge round of applause for Beth Phoenix? Wow. The Glamazon just proved her might on SmackDown this week. She’s injured and she still came to work, she hoisted not one, but two women on her shoulders and gave her hometown crowd the best show she physically could. That just shows you the determination, passion and drive that Beth has. What an amazing heart and an admirable performance from her. A fighting champion in the truest sense. The close-up on her face at the end — the heartbroken stare really melted my heart. I truly wish her the speediest of recoveries. Thank you, Beth.
And finally… the new Women’s Champion. There is just so much to be said about Layla that she was entrusted with the Women’s Championship. Even if it is ripped away from her next week, which it could very well be, she can still say she has won that belt. The same championship as the likes of The Fabulous Moolah, Wendi Richter, Trish Stratus, Lita, Victoria, Molly Holly and Mickie James, just to name a few. Those Divas who have come before the current crop that made that title mean something, it suggests to me that WWE realises the talent and depth they have in Layla that she was rewarded with the Women’s Title. She may still be developing as a wrestler and yes, it may have come out of left field — but you’ll get no complaints from me over Layla winning the title.
I say that Layla deserved to have this moment and to have that faith put in her to become the new WWE Women’s Champion. To see her transformation over the last year is a real sight to behold. The evolution of a Diva, a Diva that’s grown before our very eyes in every aspect. She has improved so much in the last year since she was moved to SmackDown in the 2009 WWE Draft. Her feud with Eve Torres upon arriving was pretty shaky but you saw her improve and get better each and every week. Her matches with Melina last summer were really good. Her matches with Mickie James and Beth Phoenix were great too. She has become such a consistent, reliable worker and a great seller; I trust that she can have great matches with whoever she works with. Then there’s her rise as a character — seeing Layla’s personality develop in the last year has completed the package. There are so few Divas on the main roster right now that ooze charisma, charm and personality. Layla is one of those few. The personality and life that she injects into her matches [crying and screaming when she's about to take the Glam Slam] and into her backstage skits are second to none right now. She is sexy and she is beautiful but she’s not afraid to look goofy or unsexy. She really has become the complete package and while girls like Maryse, Eve Torres and Alicia have been given their moments in the spotlight, Layla has been quietly working in the background to less fanfare to perfect her craft. I wondered when WWE management would sit up and take notice and it looks as though they have. She’s obviously still not a Beth or Michelle-level worker yet, but she’s making great strides and it’s a great thing to reward those that are showing that level of dedication.
WWE is making an effort to push new, younger stars and Layla [although she is 31] is one of those new, younger stars that could really be a big thing for the WWE if given the opportunity. They’ve taken a chance on Eve Torres as the Divas Champ, they’ve taken a chance on Jack Swagger as World Heavyweight Champ and now Layla too. I’m extremely happy for Layla and I think an underdog champion she may be, but her name is up there with all the greats now and no one can take that away from her.
Congratulations, Layla!

Beth got amazing pops from the crowd! It must really suck for Beth. She was injured during her peak :-/
For the first time in a… long time, the WWE threw us a swerve ball. Layla winning the belt is such a friggin’ breath of fresh air. Congrats Layla!
I’m really happy for Layla. Shes worked her ass off the past year. Judging by the post match celebration I’d say it may be a while before LayCool crumble which is a good thing, the longer they’re together the better. I felt really sorry for Beth at the end but congrats to Layla.
I didn’t catch anyone mentioning it in the other thread, but I could have missed it.
I’m surprised no one pointed out, that a few times there Michelle didn’t seem to want to let go of the belt. Sure she was apparently super happy for Layla but when Layla would go to raise the belt Michelle was grabbing it or their little spin around the ring while each holding it.
I’m hoping they play at that for a bit, but I really don’t hope it just happens. I think it would be a good way to build Layla if she actually gets to hold her title and then little bit by little bit she and Michelle butt heads.
As horrified as I am by saying it pushing Kelly vs Layla wouldn’t be a horrible thing so long as Layla came out the winner. Kelly is someone Layla could believably beat which would give her a winning defense with her title rather then have her just be some sort of wham bam champion. Because she’s better then that.
Seconded. Congratulations Layla. I wish you a long and lengthy reign! :D
AMAZING redux first off. Very well written, especially the last paragraph on Layla being given such a big chance. I couldn’t agree more. I was never a big fan of Layla before Laycool, but it was nothing with her, it was just WWE had never given me a reason to get behind her. And then Laycool came and the girl took every moment she was given and made it special. She was the fall girl for nearly every single match, but she went out of her way each time to make the match mean something, whether through her reactions or showing a new move.
The transformation she’s taken over the past year is no doubt, the greatest I’ve ever seen from a diva. She hasn’t just improved on ring skills, she’s improved on every single factor, and that is something that I think compares her to Victoria.
It’s truely remarkable that WWE pulled the trigger on her, because they could’ve easily given the belt to Michelle again (I love Michelle, but there was really nothing she could do as champion with Beth gone) I am very happy to see Layla win the WOMENS title, because the divas is nice, but the Womens imo, truely signifies that she has worked her ass off and is getting that reward from WWE. The best they could’ve ever done with Smackdown considering the circumstances, and huge hats off to Beth Phoenix for pulling through that match. She deserves a standing ovation.
so happy that Layla got the win, not happy about the circumstance (beths knee) but still i’m happy for Layla, i think the story will be some sort of jealousy story or it could be Michelle thinking she is champion/ acting like she’s the champion, her lifting up the title when Layla won was kinda odd lol plus it looked like she was trying to snatch it from Layla
At The End Of The Match When I Saw Beth’s Faces. I coudnt help but turn my head…its really sad , Beth just got on top of her game only to loose out so soon….I cnt wait until Beth comes back….I hope she returns and b comes a 4x Womens Champion!!!!!
Congrats Layla Hard Work Pays OFF!
I can firstly say THANK GOD ITS LALYA AND NOT MICHELLE…. I dont think I woulb be able ti sit through ANOTHER boring michelle title run…
Secondly, I am actually shocked that I accept layla as a champ. I would assume I would complain that she is not ready yet… and I still do feel that way… But I just can’t help but like the fact that she does hold the title. Maby it is her charisma that only 2 current divas have. IDK… lets hope she does well…
and btw, I would say mickie got as big or an even bigger pop when she had her triple threat match with beth and nataly in her home state… And the week with the promo she had a bigger pop then beth also. I wouldn’t call Beth’s pop the biggest in recent history… I would call it the biggest pop she ever had though… And I think the silence comes because of layla winning the title… I would never have expected them ti give it to her… its just weird… I thought we would get michelle down our throats AGAIN…
anyways… Hope layla makes the past title holders like Mickie James, fabulous moolah, lita proud…
I respectfully have to disagree with everything that has been said about Layla getting this win. Don’t get me wrong. I think she is one of the most entertaining and most charismatic divas on the roster, but a fighting champion she is not. It doesn’t make sense that Layla— especially at this point in her career— sits in the same category as Lita, Trish Stratus, Jazz, Molly Holly, Ivory, Jacqueline, etc. This win totally brings down the prestige of the belt, and while “diva fans” may rejoice with much excitement, the fact is the general public of the wrestling world is going to look at this move as another reason to not take the WWE’s women’s division seriously. In order for someone like Layla to look like a credible champion, she would have needed to develop much more momentum as a singles star BEFORE getting the win. Presently, she only has momentum as Michelle’s lackey. Furthermore, I find it extremely hard to accept that a personality like Michelle McCool would be so happy for her friend and even support Layla in trying to go for the pin. Yes, Layla is one heck of a diva, I’m not saying she isn’t… but really, is she there yet? No… she isn’t. This was just a bad move and another example of the lack of effort and respect WWE gives to its female roster.
great short match
Beth totally impressed me it just shows how much she cares for this industry to work even while injured.
im so happy Layla got the title i was kinda getting tired of Michelle winning lol
i thought it was funny and cute how Layla reacted when she won the title
it would be cool to see a Layla vs. Michelle fued. instead of the WWE giving us the obvious road of giving it to Kelly.
Congrats to Layla
and i hope Beth recovers soon.
Layla has built up momentum though, not a great deal, but more then ppl have realized
she pinned Mickie and Tiffany using her finisher…as well as pinning Beth..so
I think WWE and everyone involved did the best job they could given the circumstances, and they at least did something different and not expected.
The lack of heat for Laycool, though, was absolutely pitiful. If they can’t get over wrestling Beth in Buffalo, NY, not to mention cheating Beth out of the title on top of it, there’s no hope for them getting over. At this point, a break up would be the best idea because the fans don’t give a damn about them as a heel duo.
how do you mean they got no heat? From the report i got Beth got the biggest pop, and the ending of the match got one of the most heat.
they were stunned with silence, because they couldnt believe that Layla won
I’m really happy Layla won the belt. If Harvey, Debra and the Kat can have their names listed as Women’s Champion I don’t see why Layla shouldn’t. If i’m being honest though i never thought I would see her when a title period. I thought she would go the way of Torriw Wilson and never win. I probably would’ve had her win the Diva’s Championship first but hey I won’t complain.
“how do you mean they got no heat? From the report i got Beth got the biggest pop, and the ending of the match got one of the most heat.
they were stunned with silence, because they couldnt believe that Layla won”
Laycool didn’t get heat, not Beth. Beth was hugely over a face, they were not over as heels or over period. They wrestled the hometown girl 2-on-1 and screwed her over yet they still had their normal lack of heel heat duringthe segment. The lack of reaction for them was also noted in one of the spoiler posts about the match on this site by someone who was at the taping.
im really happy for layla.. well deserve for the title! all her hard work finally paid off! wow tremendous improvement indeed!
as for beth.. im awe with the fact that the crowd were so vocal and supporting her! wow! its been a long time since i heard a crowd chant the divas name that loud! just wow! at the same time i felt really heart broken when she lost especially at the end were she looks like shes going to cry.. gahhhh!
speeeedy recovery beth!
lol. The “credibility” of the belt. The only way the belt has any credibility of the person holding it has crowd reaction, something interesting about them and puts on good matches. If they don’t have all three, then the person just comes across as over pushed to the general audience.
Layla did something that a lot of divas who has won a match in their career haven’t: She treated it like it was a big deal. She was over the top and lively. She didn’t have a BS grin like “Yeah, I knew I would win.” She didn’t cry like a baby.
I think if Layla goes face, she can get over as a comedic face ala Santino.. Except she’s a much better wrestler. haha
@DarkMaverick: Surely that’s a harsh appraisal when a dude in drag once held the belt? Layla’s skill as a performer already outranks a few who have won the belt before her. The Kat and Debra, anyone?
I for one loved it tonight. Beth came out to a huge pop; reminded me of Lita’s pops. The match itself was pretty damn good since Beth had a torn ACL. Seeing her lift both members of Lay-Cool even with a torn ACL really showed her determination and passion for the business. Go Beth! The crowd was really behind Beth tonight. By the way I really liked her new titantron. Layla winning was flawless. Like you said sure she ain’t the best in-ring performer but hell she beats girls like Maryse by miles in my opinion. Nice to see WWE give her a chance to prove herself even more. Looking foward to next week.
I can understand why some people aren’t happy about it because that’s how I felt about Candice and Trish when they first one the Women’s Championship but just like them, WWE took a chance on them because they had gained some experience, worked hard and proved that they really wanted to do this. They might not of been ready but with the push Candice turned into a pretty decent wrestler and face character before her injuries and release and Trish went on to make history. Layla with that same chance could do the same thing.
That’s also the difference between Layla and Kelly Kelly for me. Kelly shows really no improvement. Nothing about her has really changed. She did improve a couple years ago but for me there’s really no improvement from there. But Layla has grown and you can see the improvement and that makes her worthy of this chance. She is getting better in the ring, she’s getting more comfortable. I can’t count how many house show reports I’ve read where people (male and female) were utterly shocked at how great of a worker she can be in singles competition and yes, the word great was used. Layla is getting better on the microphone, she’s got a personality and works her character well. Despite it’s annoying level.
With a break up from LayCool, Layla can get the chance to get over on her own without needing Vickie’s spare heat. They can give her a chance to grow as a solo diva, a solo star and with that chance she could become something really special. Yes, she is holding a belt that great people like Lita, Trish and Victoria has held but don’t forget, they didn’t become stars over night and a huge chance was taken on all of them.
@DarkMaverick87: I see where you’re coming from but like adifferentsame and sugarrush28 mentioned Layla has far more credibility then Hervina, The Kat and Debra. Layla has some of the most fierce kicks I’ve ever seen from any Diva, she’s been silently pushed for the past year with wins over Melina, Mickie, Kelly and now Beth. She played the underdog role and snuck out with the win. I think WWE could use this really well and Layla could become one of the greats if she were given a decent feud with Michelle.
“I can’t count how many house show reports I’ve read where people (male and female) were utterly shocked at how great of a worker she can be in singles competition and yes, the word great was used.”
I’ve must the read some reports. I remember some from Beth vs Layla matches in which Layla got the praise for making the match interesting. Which doesn’t surprise me. Look at those two Layla vs Beth matches. Beth did the same ol’ strong woman thing she did with everyone else. The only two that really could stand out to people was Melina (based on Melina’s flexibility) and Layla (based on Layla’s comedy).
Not because I am a mark, but I am willing to give Layla a chance as champ because she has something that can’t be made, no matter how hard booking tries: personality.
Anyway, I forgot to report on the other stuff. Beth did great and to see her work like that with her injury was really inspiring. As for the match itself, it’s forgettable as a whole. It was that great of a match. The best parts were the double bump between Beth and Michelle, it look like Michelle broke her neck, ouch. And Layla’s reaction to winning because she was so damn hilarious. All that screaming. Though Michelle being happy for Layla was a little odd but maybe it’s a build. As someone else stated, Michelle was keeping that belt like she didn’t want to give it up.
I do love when Layla runs to Michelle and wraps her legs around her, then Michelle spins. That always makes me laugh but over all I’m tired of LayCool. So I hope this is the end of them. Beth was heartbreaking at the end, her looking at her brace with what looked like tears in her eyes, she played that perfectly. It made you feel for her.
The could use that Laycool hug really well, Layla could have her first successful title defence against someone like Kelly and Michelle could catch her then slam her down. :D
@THETommyTommy… I just wanted to give you some props. Normally in message forums when somebody makes an unpopular comment (even if it is done respectfully), that person becomes the target of a bunch of irrational and immature responses. Just wanted to say thanks for keeping it real and refuting my argument without sinking to a low level.
To DarkMaverick87: You risked life and limb to say what you needed to say on here, and for that, you have my respect. :) Trust me, I know the feeling of just stating your own opinion and getting chewed out for being different. Had I given praise over a certain champion that was crowned a few weeks ago…well…things would not have been pretty.
All the same, though, congrats to Layla on her win and making history in the process.
WOW … nothing original regarding Lay-Cool at all. After watching their entrance, not only are they a cheap version of the Beautiful People, but they also been watching Sarita & Taylor Wilde’s ring entrance.
Anyway … congratulations Layla El on becoming the new WWE Women’s Champion!
Man. I was there at the Hard Roc Cafe when Layla was crowned Diva Search Winner. NEVER imagined her to make it this far, congrats to her ! I’m so happy for her ! Hope she defends it every week & does NOT turn face.
Congrats Layla! You deserved the win! I don’t think that fans were shocked about Beth losing the title in her hometown – they were probably more shocked that Beth lost the title in her hometown…to Layla. It was shocking, but I like being shocked. Not the “Santino dresses up in drag and wins Miss Wrestlemania crown” kinda shocked, but when they give an unexpected push to someone I really like kinda shocked. I think Layla will make for a great champion!
I’ll be honest. I’m kinda dissapointed that Beth’s reign was cut so short, but she got injured. What do ya do?
And as for Rosa, she probably was just there to show off her new silver attire (which I kinda like BTW). But I thought it was really funny how over-dramatic she was that she didn’t get to compete. She sounded like she was going to burst into tears LOL
A good week for SmackDown overall…
Useless but fun facts:
Layla El joins an exclusive list of “firsts” when it comes to WWE Women’s Champions:
- Layla El is the first British-born & Diva Search Winner to win the Women’s Championship
- Yukiko Tomoe was the first Japanese-born Women’s Champion
- Velvet McIntyre was the first Canadian-born Women’s Champion
- Leilani Kai was the first to win both the Women’s & Women’s Tag Team Championships
- Rockin’ Robin was the first second generation wrestler to win the Women’s Championship
- Madusa (Alundra Blayze) was the first Italian-born Women’s Champion
- Jacqueline Moore was the first African-American Women’s Champion
- Harvey Wippleman was the first male Women’s Champion
- Gail Kim was the first Women’s Champion with Korean background
- Candice Michelle was the first Diva Search contestant to win the Women’s Championship
Layla has effectively compensated for the charisma McCool can’t muster. And I hope this will turn into an opportunity for Layla to become a star and not a brief token of appreciation like Jillian’s dire Divas Championship win.
Congrats Layla!
i hope rosa will turn face…
Rosa was looking all kinds of hot tonight!
This was really emotional to watch. To see the crowd get behind Beth her like that and that look on her face when she lost was so sad. I hope the day she returns is in her hometown and she wins back the championship. Gratz to Layla though, happy to see a new face hold the title :)
OMG, I’m UBER ECTSATIC right now!!!!! This is AWESOME! I feel soooo bad for Beth, but that just proves my (conspiracy) theory that Vince McMahon loves to screw his workers over in their home towns :/
I’m so happy for Layla, though! :D Her reign is already longer than Mickie’s third and Jillian’s reign, so HA! :D
Layla has all the tools to be the best DIva in the company. She has the charisma, she has the skills, she has the looks. She has everything a top Diva needs, and I hope WWE utilize it! :)
Completely agree with everything in your write up Melanie. Especially what you wrote about Beth. I was almost in tears at the end when it showed her face, I wanted (and still do!) to give her a big hug. That was real, that disappointment and pain. But my God, how tough is this woman, to have both women on her shoulders and somoa drop them, while having a possible ACL tear?? She’s unbelivable. To go through all that pain to put on a good show for her hometown, even though she had to lose her title…what a strong woman, mentally, physically and emotionally. I hope and pray she recovers fully, she’ll be sorely missed.
At the same time, what a bittersweet moment for fans of both women! Layla was genuinely excited by her win and she let everyone know it. The crowd was just stunned – a rare feat for a women’s match to achieve. I’m surprised they pulled the trigger on her as well, but she deserves it for her growth in every area over the past year or two. Reliable, passionate, steady, hard working..all the traits of a great champion.
Even if they find a way to take it away & put it back on Michelle next week, her name is in the lists now. That can’t be erased. But I don’t think they’ll do that, I could see this as being the end of LayCool. Not immediately probably but slowly. Layla would make a great face.
All in all, a bittersweet night for the women. …I still want to give Beth a hug though.
i’m not sure which fall out of the ring was more awkward looking this week – michelle’s or maryse’s!
yak now, it was sad seeing beth lose and although i do feel that layla should’ve been given some singles wins the past month and such, it is nice to see a fresh face hold the title. i just don’t see where they can go from here.. kelly/layla? could happen, but after their brief encounter last week, they still don’t seem to mesh well. tiffany/layla? i’m not sure. they need another face, pronto.
Layla is 31?!?! I thought she was like around Kelly’s age.
Wow. Layla & Eve. …huh.
Well, I love Layla, so this is great! I wonder if it bothered her at all that she had to celebrate to McCool’s music. Haven’t seen Layla make her own entrance since last July.
I think Layla may heading towards a face turn to feud with Michelle. The seeds looked planted with Michelle clinging on to the belt during the celebration. With Beth out for a while, SD suddenly has only Kelly and Tiffany as faces. I’d rather see Layla feud with Kelly, but I can’t imagine Michelle wants to be out of the top angle, even though it’s so painful to see how hard they’re trying to get Michelle heat and it’s never worked. If Vicky can’t even get you over, what more can be done?
Well let’s wait and see what they do before we start calling this a mistake. Although I can see what DarkMaverick is saying. The same title that great women like Lita, Victoria, Trish and Molly have brought prestige to. The way I look at a Championship nowadays is different than before. For example. When Candice won the Title, I was very dissapointed. She had improved, she was sloppily fantastic, and she was the underdog we could get behind. It just didn’t seem right having Jillian Hall on the same roster but I digress.
The way I see it now..the Title is only important depending on the wrestler holding it. Like when Lita won it during the main events. Obviously the title was regarded on par to the mens title. There was a lot of excitement over it. Even JR was getting confused, “Lita has become the Worlds Cha…Womens Champion..” the title and the reign is what the Champion makes it. If it makes sense.
I think this is one of the few times that a diva seach contenstant or winner hasn’t got a huge backlash for winning a title. Which clearly shows what everyones opinion about Layla is (: I won’t say that this was a mistake. I will wait and see what happens next week before going that far. I am sad that Beth lost the title so quickly, but I am happy that the WWE put the title on someone new. For the last few years or so, it ahs been the same women (Mickie, Melina, Beth, and Michelle) holding the title, so it really is a breath of fresh air that Layla is the new champion. I hope she has a decent and good title run.
Conqratulations Layla!!!
That look on Beths face…man. You can see that she was trully heart-broken. Even in injury she gave it her all. Not to get all soppy, but I couldnt help tearing up at the end despite being happy for Layla. I pray that she has a speedy recovery.
Hopefully, they will focus on the gradual rift between Lay-Cool instead of just turning Layla face instantly. The thought of Kelly Kelly being number one contender for the Womens Championship is unsettling. Sure, Kelly and Layla have decent ring chemistry, but Kelly needs to be carried through most of her matches and, needless to say, that doesnt exactly make her championship material. Lets be honest, the only reason Kelly gets the pop that she gets is because she is hot. Layla has charisma, beauty and enough ring savvy to be a convincing champion. With Beth gone SD needs a new Head Diva In Charge, and Layla could fill that role far better than Kelly can.
BTW, did anyone else notice that Rosas music has gotten even MORE generic?
@DarkMaverick87 You hit the nail on the head perfectly thank you.
Laycool get zero heat because Michelle is a heat vacuum. She sucks the heat out of the arena whenever she shows up. If it wasn’t for Layla or Vickie then it would be silent (and has been in the past) when Michelle is out there.
BTW I am really looking forward to the break up of Laycool, they are obviously going to either take Vickie out of the mix or keep her with Michelle because Michelle needs the heat magnet.
I feel you RedHotVixen. It was heart breaking to see Beth lose. Her facial expressions told the story. I can’t remember the last time I was so happy for a New Champion, yet so sad for the former. Its been one hell of a month for the Divas and Knockouts.
It makes sense for the breakup between LayCool to be gradual. They should have Layla defend the title against someone as soon as this coming week. Give her some credibility in the ring. I’m sure she’s going to do better than expected.
^ thank you that is what i think.have a gradual rift between the two…allow Layla to have some singles wins on her own, maybe a title defence or two, or sme non title matches over Kelly and Tiffany….lead into a tag match *After some backstage skits* and then have McCool just attack
