I think, if tonight’s Raw taught us one thing, it was this: less commercials means more Divas. Of course, that’s a bit of a leap in logic, but that fact is that tonight’s show, whilst being commercial free, featured more Diva face time than we’ve seen in a long time: 2 (count ‘em, 2) matches, a backstage segment, and 2 faux-commercials. That adds up to a load of Divas being utilized, including 2 Divas that aren’t even technically apart of the brand. That’s a kind of efficiency I was beginning to think that the WWE didn’t know existed (that string of 1-minute-and-less matches didn’t help). Let us observe:
The beginning of our Diva-filled night was signaled by the appearance of a familiar face, home-country girl Trish Stratus. Unfortunately, that face was printed on a magazine cover rather than being flesh and bone, and we soon saw that Maryse was the face behind it. It was a slick move to get fans excited while risking disappointment, but it was smart to make Maryse be the one to “break the news”, so to speak. Let her be the one to put out the Trish Stratus bait and yank it back. It is a neat heat-generating maneuver that worked. Talking to the makeup woman, she details how Canadians suck and that fact that she’s French Canadian is a completely different thing. She starts trash talking Eve, and if summoned by the gods, Eve appears behind her, grabbing some baby powder and pouring it over Maryse’s head.
A makeup table fight ensues, with Eve smashing Maryse’s face against it a few times before the girls are separated. The fire in this feud continues to burn, and in this segment they showed real intensity. I mentioned this in the Post-Raw show, but I feel like whenever the WWE needs to inject some intensity in to a diva feud, they have the girls fight at the makeup station. But hell, it works! It allows the Divas to have a real, scrappy fight and makes the heat feel that much more real. It’s worked for countless Divas feuds before, and this one was no exception.
Later on, these foes faced off in a 6-Diva Tag Team match. Such words usually send visions of a clusterfuck flying through a Diva fan’s head, but luckily, the WWE’s head seem to be screwed on straight, time management-wise. I guess cutting out commercials really gave them room to stretch their legs, and this match benefited greatly from that. See for yourself:
Layla and Michelle McCool come to the ring, both wearing a Women’s Championship belt. So… is the title split? If so, I can see why they did it, but I’m disappointed that they aren’t really giving Layla the chance to be champ. It’ll come one day, I guess.. Laycool are followed by Maryse, as well as the team of Eve Torres, Brie, and Nikki Bella. Before the match can begin Maryse makes a move for Eve, and the two start fighting frantically. Their teammates manage to pull them apart, and once things settle down and the screaming stops, the match officially begins.
Layla and Eve start off with a tie-up, Layla catching Eve in a side headlock. Eve fights Layla off and shoves her to the ropes, and one the return Layla tries to bowl her over by the shoulder, but neither Diva budges. Layla tries again, but Eve keeps maneuvering out of her way until Layla gets fed up and simply sweeps Eve’s feet out from under her, going for an early pin. Eve kicks out at two, and Layla stays on the attack, kicking her a few times until Eve catches one of her high kicks, lifting Layla onto her shoulders and hitting a Samoan Drop. She tries for a pin, but only gets a 2-count.
Eve latches Layla into a sleeper hold, but Layla battles out pretty quickly. Eve, however, stops Layla’s offensive streak short with a neckbreaker. Another pin attempt, another 2-count. Eve brings Layla to her corner and tags in Brie Bella. Brie hits a leaping snapmare, then irish-whipping her into the ropes. On the return Layla pulls out an impressive tuck and roll into a pin out of nowhere. Brie kicks out. Layla keeps on Brie, stopping a hurricanrana attempt and battling her between the ropes. They trade blows for a bit before Michelle puts a stop to this with one boot applied directly to Brie’s face.
Layla tags in Michelle and she continues her assault on Brie on the outside of the ring before tossing her back in. Once inside the ring Michelle lays numerous knees into Brie’s midsection before tagging Layla back in. Layla hits s snapmare and goes for a legdrop, but no one’s home. Layla’s selling of that was pretty funny, but realistic too. Your tail bone’s gotta sting after that. Both Divas crawl to their respective corners. Layla tags in Michelle first, who runs in and knocks Eve off the apron. Before she can get to Nikki, though, Brie tags her in. Michelle doesn’t seem phased, and simply drags Nikki in over the top rope. Nikki quickly turns the tables, though, and hits a series of clotheslines and dropkicks. Michelle yells “get her off me!”. Both her and Layla love to cry for help during a match, and it works in a “silly heel” kind of way.
The hits keep coming for Michelle and Nikki continues her streak, hitting serveral snappy moves before going for the pin. Michelle kicks out at 2. Brie takes a page out of Michelle’s book, going over to the enemy corner and knocking Maryse and Layla off the apron. She climbs the turnbuckle (after kind of no-selling an attack from Michelle) and goes for a flying body press, but Michelle dives out of the way, and Nikki eats mat. Maryse takes the opportunity to tag herself in, much to Michelle’s chagrin. She hits the French Kiss on Nikki and gets the pin and the win for her team, though I’m not sure sure Michelle and Layla are doing cartwheels about how it ended.
Post-match Eve and Maryse reignite their fight once again, and the referee and Brie Bella manage to keep them apart. This goes on for a while, with Maryse charging at her a few times and making it feel like a real scraper. Eventually, cooler head prevail, and they separate.
The match was surprisingly good and inclusive for a 6-Diva Tag Team match. Usually, they shortchange a few Divas in those matches, but they utilized everyone pretty well and achieved a lot. Layla and Michelle played great heels/comedy relief, the Bellas got in some great offensive and sold Laycool’s attack well. Eve and Maryse managed to simmer their hate for one another on the outside, only letting it spill out before and after the bell, which saves the real confrontation for the PPV match, which is smart in a business sense. Layla is really coming into her own as a heel and as a performer, and I’m glad they let her get the majority of the ring time. Michelle, as, always, played the bullying her to perfection, and took the beating from Nikki well (the “get her off me!” sealed the deal). Michelle ad Layla manage to mix serious wrestling with comedy pretty well, with neither coming off too goofy. It was ap leasant surprise to see them on Raw tonight, and kind of makes me wish they were around every week to add that extra spark to Raw’s matches. Still, SmackDown’s their home, and the focus should be on Eve e and Maryse’s feud, which it was, for all intents and purposes. The match ended with Maryse sneaking out a win once again, which is irksome, but completely follows the pattern. It only makes the fans want to see Maryse get hers, and that builds anticipation for her match with Eve this Sunday.
Their match at Over the Limit has been built up pretty well, much better than their previous encounters. Their sudden cold blooded hate for one another may seem forced, but I can certainly feel the intensity, and I applaud the WWE for using tactics other than 1-minute matches to propel the story forward. Them having to be pulled apart not once, not twice, but three times in one night shows that these characters really hate each other, and builds excitement for their match on Sunday. Presumably, all that venom will finally be unleashed in the middle of the ring, given that Maryse doesn’t find a way to not wrestle. I wouldn’t put it past her, but it’s kind of hard to hide in a one-on-one match. We’ll see, but either way I’m looking forward to seeing these Divas let the hate flow free.
But wait, there’s more! Continuing to plant the seeds in their feud, Alicia Fox and Gail Kim faced off in a Mixed Tag Team match, teaming with their respective fellows (Alicia with Zack Ryder, Gail with Evan Bourne). This match was predicted by several of us last week, but the execution made it entertaining, so I don’t even care. Watch the match below:
It starts when Alicia and Zack Ryder interrupt guest GM Buzz Aldrin. He intimidates them, and brings out Gail and Evan. Zack and Evan start things off and wrestle until Evan goes for a pin attempt, and Alicia tries to break it up. Gail comes flying in (quite literally) and takes her out. For some reason, thing makes them legal in the match even though no tags were made. Anywho, Gail continues her assault on Alicia, irish-whipping her into a corner and straight into Zack. Gail nails them, and allows Evan to take of Zack. Gail climbs the turnbuckle and hits Alicia with a flying dropkick Gail goes for the pin, but Alicia kicks out at 2. Gail whips Alicia into the ropes, but Zack holds on to her, as a form of protection I suppose. Gail simply kicks him off the apron and continues with her business. She ducks a clothesline from Alicia and run the ropes, but Zack pulls the second rope down, causing Gail to spill out onto the outside.
Alicia brings Gail back into the ring and goes for a pin. Gail kicks out at 2. Alicia hits a suplex and bridges it into a pin, but still only gets a 2-count. Frustrated, shoe goes for yet another pin, with exactly the same outcome. She claws at Gail’s face, but gets hot-shotted by Gail and stumbles over to tag in Zack. This brings in Evan, and the guys wrestle on.
Eventually, Evan has Zack set up for a Shooting Star Press, but Alicia shoves him out of the ring and (presumably) out of harm’s way. Not missing a beat, Evan then simply nails him on the outside of the ring. Alicia drags Gail into the ring, but Gail hits the Eat Defeat out of nowhere, getting the pin and the win. Evan and Gail celebrate with Buzz Aldrin.
For a Mixed-Tag match, that was pretty entertaining. Usually the Divas get shortchanged a bit or the flow of the match seems sloppy through the “girls must fight girls and guys must fight guys” rule, but they worked pretty seamlessly, switching from superstar to Diva action fluidly. Gail and Evan’s highspots were as exciting as always, and Alicia got the chance to show off that attitude of her in her interaction with Buzz Aldrin and her fiesty-ness in the ring with Gail. Both teams were showcased well, and it leaves me the hope that this feud can continue and give Gail and Alicia real room to stretch their legs. They work great together, in my opinion, and having male counterparts only makes the feud that much more interesting. I just hope we don’t get stuck in an endless cycle on Mixed Tag matches, because they can all be a good as this one. But as long as the dynamic sticks, I’m all for the team interaction.
And, to cap off my coverage, I figured I’d include some of the faux commercials the WWE put together to celebrate their commercial-free status for the night. Because nothing says “more wrestling, less pointless breaks” like (WWE produced) pointless breaks. Okay, so they were funny (for the most part, anyways), and allowed several of the Superstars and Divas to work their comedy muscles. Two in particular stood out to me due to their inclusion of certain Divas. One with Goldust, for instance, featured indy wrestler and WWE hopeful Cherry Bomb being “seduced” by Mr. Creepy in one of many spoofs of those Geico commercials where the guy responds to questions about Geico’s ability ot save customers’ money by asking a rhetorical (and zany~~~) question:
The next (and in my opinion funniest) commercial featured Santino in a spoof of those Dos Equis “The Most Interesting Man in the World” commercials. Santino plays his role to perfection, and Jillian turned from seductive arm candy to spit-take target in one fell swoop, and didn’t miss a beat. While it definitely sucks to get spit on, Jillian can take solace in the fact that her reaction made me laugh harder than anything else in the entire night did:
Two entertaining matches that furthered two separate Diva storylines, a backstage segment that hit its mark, and two comedy skits that worked well and showcased Divas that otherwise would have been absent from the show. Not to mention, a little birdy told me that Natalya got to slap the taste out of Chris Jericho’s mouth. That’s a success in my book. I don’t know who booked tonight’s Raw, or if its commercial-free status really had anything to do with it, but it’s like night and day, comparing to the miserable tripe that was cooked up on Raw just months ago. I love the effort that’s being put into the Divas, and it almost like the writers discovered what the word “foresight” meant and have begun to actually apply it to their booking. Kudos to everyone involved, even the two invaders from SmackDown.
All in all, it was a whole lotta Diva goodness packed into one 2 hour show. And you know what? It worked. Nothing, in my opinion, seemed rushed or shoe-horned in. It was refreshing and exciting, and I hope to see more of it when the advertisers return next week. I don’t expect the same Diva surplus, but the sentiment should remain the same, it being that every Divas has a purpose; you just need to find it and take full advantage of it.

This was a fantastic write up! I really liked RAW this week, and I can’t believe the whole two belts for laycool thing
they couldn’t have just given it to Layla, could they? Oh well.
May 18, 2010 at 4:42 pm
really great night for the divas. The six diva tag match was really good. I cant tell which one all though i think it was nikkie, the bella did good. The exchange between layla and eve was awsome. I also loved eve’s attire. its sorta gladiatorish.
May 18, 2010 at 4:43 pm
thanks for featuring my videos also amazing write up as normal
May 18, 2010 at 4:54 pm
Nice write up Erin
I think that this has to be the best RAW in a while & not just for the divas, overall.
I really liked everything about the divas tonight, from the Natayla slap to Jerchio to the 6 Diva tag to the Mix tag match.
So, im in the mood for making this comment very long & im ill so nothing better to do. So here goes..
Natalya segment: First the little bit of Natalya we got to see, she does get a crowd reaction which is nice to see & i love to see Natalya getting the rub off of Bret & Jerchio which is nice. That slap, i felt that myself. I just want Natalya in the Diva division, but maybe they are getting the crowd behind her first and then move her in the division so that she will be the top babyface of Raw & the entire WWE which would be something different as she deserves it much more than any other diva on the roster.
The Cherry Bomb Skit: I’ve seen a few matches of her in and shes actually ok as a wrestler, i would compare her to someone like Natalya. I just hope that WWE take advantage of her but i also hope that they don’t turn her into the resident jobber like Jillian and Katie lea are/were.
The Maryse/Eve backstage segment: First we see Trish, which is always nice to see and since its her hometown, i was thinking that she might of made a cameo apperance or something with Vickie. Eve comes up and then puts powder in her hair (didn’t we see that last year with Eve and Layla?).. oh well. When Eve pounded Maryse into that table, i actually thought that this was real :/ just b’cos of how much effort she put into that head pound.
Eve/Bellas vs Maryse/Laycool: First of all, Laycool as double champions? seriously?just when i thought that Layla was going to get an actual title run, we then see Michelle with a second-rate women’s title belt that she problary just brought off of WWE.com (tried to get a joke in there but problary didn’t work). I loved Maryse’s outfit, it suits her very much, but that extentions, its gotta go quick, or straighten it. I also loved the Bellas outfit, the colour suited then with their hair. I DID NOT like Eve’s attire tonight, it was a complete hot mess, she needs to get a new attire completely. Layla was the star for me in this match, she was on point for every move, i love Layla very much and has done since she was on the Diva Search in O6′. Its nice to see the Bellas wrestling more now, its fresh as we dont get to see them that often. The Bellas sell the French Kiss the best, it looks more effective, they have always sold it that way. But Maryse doing one move, it doesnt make her look good, she needs to be on superstars in a one on match so that she can improve abit and give someone else like Alicia or Jillian at the title.
Finally, the Mix tag match: Is Alicia the new Rosa? b’cos if she is, then i bet we wont get to see her wrestle as much anymore which will be shameful on Diva fans as she can actually wrestle a very good match. The match overall was brillant, the team of Gail and Evan (which i have dubbed as ‘The-little-people-that-can-wrestle’) Alicia wore my favourite outfit again tonight. I want these two to have a match on superstars this week or next week as divas matches over there get extra time.
Overall, i loved Raw and cant wait for next week as well as Smackdown this week and as well as the PPV, but as they always say, their is room for improvement.
STARS: 4.5/5

Great write-up Erin. Fun show and a fun report. Thanks!
May 18, 2010 at 4:59 pm
i actually kinda like the whole laycool both with belts thing espcially if it headed down the road i expect it to. like i see michelle becoming obsessed with being the champ even though layla is really champ and michelle attacking layla which has layla make a face turn which i think shed be awesome at leading to a laycool fued
May 18, 2010 at 5:12 pm
Really good Redux Erin. Raw last night had to be the best its been all year. It was great to see LayCool on Raw, they really do work well on live shows kinda makes me wish they had been drafted last month. I like where they are going with the two title angle, I dont think its official its just a way to cause friction between the two and start a feud. The Maryse/Eve fued has really picked up steam going into sunday, the only problem is I just cant see the two of them pulling off a decent match. The mixed tag was great and I am loving the tag of Evan and Gail. Gail/Alicia are two of my favs and the more time in the ring they get the better.
May 18, 2010 at 5:25 pm
I loved RAW this week. It was all-around awesome. The backstage segment, the matches, everything was perfect. Not just for the divas but the whole show was just A+. Great write-up Erin.
May 18, 2010 at 5:27 pm
I’m a huge Trish fan, but I’m glad she didn’t show up tonight. Predictability is never a good thing in wrestling, and she would risk doing that by being there every single time they are in Toronto. That being said, it is really nice to see a diva become so iconic that just showing her face on a magazine cover gets a bigger pop than all the current divas. In fact, if it wasn’t for fellow Canadian Maryse getting a nice reaction, Trish’s magazine would have been the only diva pop of the night!!!
It made sense for Maryse to be the one reading the magazine. For a character as arrogant as her, it would take somebody of Trish’s beauty and fame to make her jealous. That’s good writing for once, even if it was obvious. I don’t understand why they let heels get so personal in their attacks on other wrestlers though. Having Maryse say Eve is boring and has no charisma is no way to get her over, especially when Eve showed up a few seconds later and proved that she is lacking in the personality department. Or the way they let Jericho just bury Bret in the beginning, saying he was washed up and was hanging on. Bret really had bad comebacks, and his match with Miz proved Jericho right.
May 18, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Raw was ace this week for the divas. Best it’s been in a LONG time.
May 18, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Great Redux, Erin. And a great night for the RAW Divas. My only complaint is the role of Natalya. I hate that she has been reduced to simply slapping people. We know that she is capable of far more than that, physically and mentally. Obviously, as a face she cant resort to the heel antics that we are used to. I just wish that they would give her a better role than the one that she has now.
May 18, 2010 at 5:50 pm
First vid; 1:03 I rofl’d so hard, Eve must legitally hate Maryse! xD So they cheer her, then boo her after she says she’s ‘Frech-Canadian’ and then cheer her in the match… they sure are forgiving huh! -____-
6 Diva Tag; 5:41 L-OW-L! Mixture of Lol & Ow for those wondering. xP 6:13 Rofl fair play! xD 6:52 GOOD LORD! Nikki does it again, my spine tingled after watching that, but in the cool way. xP
Mixed Tag; 0:05 she certainly dances to the radio with those hips! =-P lol That Buzz really needs to learn to remember his lines thats for ………………………………. hahaha, sure. xD
Cherry Bomb skit: They better freaking sign that woman… NOW!! >=-(
Jillian skit: 3:01 How does he know what THAT tastes like?!? 0__o
May 18, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Raw was pretty great last night, all of the Divas were effecitvely used and Maryse and Eve got some much needed progression in their feud. I loved how the Canadian crowd reacted to the Trish face shot, I mean, how cool is that you don’t even have to be there and you get a bigger pop than most people do on a good night. I also really loved everything about Maryse, from the outfit to the hair, to that last minute tag and sneaky win, she’s just a great character. I do wish she wrestled better/more, but it doesn’t bother that much because she keeps me entertained in other ways. I loved how the crowd was silent until she was tagged in too, it was just kind of funny, like she was the only Diva anyone really wanted to see and she hardly ever even really wrestles. I still don’t really like Eve because I do feel she’s kind of boring, just another happy face character who points and smiles but this feud is making me respect her a little more, the girl is gettting good in the ring and she showed some intensity in that makeup table brawl. I’m kind of worried about the match with Maryse and Eve though, I can’t see that going too well at all. On another note, I kind of like that Michelle McCool’s ego is so big that she needs a title around her waste. I see this leading to an angle where Layla feels her win and her skills are being overlooked by McCool and she breaks away and they feud, I just hope Layla is able to get over as a face. The Bellas looked good tonight, I still don’t know why people are shocked at how good they can be, they have been consistently solid for a long time now and they looked HOT in their black outfits.
May 18, 2010 at 5:59 pm
The stand outs for the 6 diva tag were Layla and the Bellas.
Lately, the WWE has given their belts to people who have passable ring skills/credibility but they need to develop a personality. Layla, on the other hand is a weird case. She needs to develop some wrestling credibility and she has the most personality of the divas. Being good in the ring is different from people thinking you are good in the ring. lol
I loved that she did that cradle/float over move again. It has been too long! She also showed some real intensity that Eve just didn’t have. You felt she wanted to kick some a** and take some names. Though I hated that first pinfall move. haha
Brie really ate that kick from Michelle, didn’t she? Damn. I wonder what she was going to do if she didn’t get kicked.
And you can faintly hear the crowd almost get into the match when Nikki was going to town. I just thought it made Michelle made her look weak. Nikki had to play the “How many moves can I do in 30 seconds?” game just to get her no sellin’ self down long enough for a pin attempt.
I know a lot of people praise for Michelle because “she makes everyone she wrestles look good” but I just don’t see it. If Molly or Trish could see for a VERY VERY green Christy, why can’t Michelle sell for someone who can at least execute a dropkick properly? Part of making someone look good is making what they do look like it fazes them.
May 18, 2010 at 6:02 pm
hooray for story progression!
the 6 Diva tag was really good, Nikki was impressive at the end with Michelle but the crowd was just dead, i really liked the Bella’s attire this week black looks good on them
and Gail & even vs Zack & Alicia was great aswell (i especially like that Gail got the pin)
did cherry have a dark match or anything, it wasn’t much of a try out lol
May 18, 2010 at 6:13 pm
Okay time for a proper review now. =)
Maryse/Eve segement: Maryse played her ‘oh look at me, I’m better than all these canadians cause I’m a FRENCH-Canadian! Plus the fact I think Eve’s a tramp which is the most over way I would like to say to her!’ character well. And the actual fight… I lol’d at Eve honestly pwning Maryse in the desk but adding to that both made the fight look believable and both shown a lot of anger and frustration, which is a must in make-up brawls. First Eve on Layla now Eve on Maryse, Eve’s a natural at fighting with make-up thats for sure. xP
6 Diva Tag Match: I was plesantly suprised by this, normal 6 diva tags are like Erin said, clusterfucks, but this one was good because it had more than 43 seconds, even 2 minutes, let alone it being 5 odd minutes! =O Still Layla was coming to her own in the ring, nice to see her in the match the most, plus she remained to be that comedic English muffin we love to adore ever so. =-) McCool was a natural as she usually is in the ring, and slightly funnier with that ‘GET HER OFF ME!’ bit in there. xD Eve was decent as she tends to be, nice Samoan Drop plus nice selling from Layla might I add there about her as well. =-P Brie was average, as she tends to be, but Nikki was better.. as she usually is, I cringed at the DDT sell she did for Maryse, it was like a replay from… 2 weeks ago on Raw was it? =-\ Nikki better wrestle more against Maryse, so I can see more of that! >=D … in the positive way of course, and I was on about her selling. xD Maryse was… what was she besides ugh! Meaning shes in the match for a few seconds yet the once French hating Canadians cheered her on… why? Sure she smoking but again, WHY?! Also to add nice to see not just the 1 brawl from earlier, not a second at the begin of the match… but a THIRD BRAWL at the end of the match between Eve & Maryse! This really makes their match for OTL that much more anticipating for us, cause we wanna see Eve & Maryse go at it. However knowing how Maryse has been for the past year, we know she’ll do ANYTHING to get out of a wrestling match, so I won’t keep my hopes up too much until I see an actual match from them both. =-P
Mixed Tag Team Match: Nice work from the girls definetly, Gail & Alicia really do have good chemistry together, kinda makes us forget about the semi-finals match before… damn it! x___x Either way Gail was great, Alicia was fierce as she usually is, the guys were great (site’s not called Dude-Dirt I know xD) And also, do both of those couples seem really sweet together or is it just me? Evan & Gail are like paralell to each other in everything (besides popularity where Evan’s more than Gail & age where Gail is more than Evan xD), plus Zack & Alicia seem … k together, they looked funny together but we’ll have to see more from them in the future to get used to it more I guess. Already better than Ryder & Rosa thats for sure, never a fan of them together tbh. x____x
Cherry Bomb Skit: Like I said before, WWE would be daft in the head not to sign this woman. She has camera skills, comedic, and seems to play one mean be-yotch if given a heel role. Plus I heard shes one great wrestler so thats a bonus. Plus that hairstyle is different in the cool way and she has a cute face, just draft her to SmackDown and your all set! =-P
Jillian Skit: … Poor Jillian, got spat in the face with the Horny Goat elixer! =-( Wouldn’t been worse if she opened her mouth as he spat that onto her then said that it was like Goat Urine, I would’ve lol’d then. Btw why the hellz would he know what that taste like?!?!? 0.o rofl
Overall… did that Scott Damore guy who used to work for TNA secretly shift himself onto WWE or or did they actually get someone who gives a crap about the divas?! Cause it seems like anyway. I bet someone from Diva-Dirt is doing double duty, maybe Me-Lay-Ne, she’s already got 2 jobs now, maybe a third is in order?
(Btw no one take that from me, thats MINE to call her from now on!! >=-P) Seems like it, either way GREAT RAW and if we’ve learnt ANYTHING from this experience… Commercial Free = GREAT Diva involvement, keep that in mind.
Oh one more thing, about the whole ‘Lay-Cool Co-Champions thing’, it better NOT be true, it’d be kinda daft if it were, I mean sure McCool could do that just to make herself feel better on the outside while she’s secretly jealous of Layla and dead on the inside, fake title so what? But just leave Layla shine on her own, I mean come on, the woman deserves that much doesn’t she?? =-\
May 18, 2010 at 6:41 pm
“I know a lot of people praise for Michelle because “she makes everyone she wrestles look good” but I just don’t see it. If Molly or Trish could see for a VERY VERY green Christy, why can’t Michelle sell for someone who can at least execute a dropkick properly? something else i agree with you on. unfortunately, i don’t think people even realise michelle no-sells most of the moves done on her. look at the feud she had with maryse back on smackdown, it took maryse having beth as an opponent during survivor series for people to actually realise maryse could do well, michelle did nothing for her. she literally gets straight back up and marches on, move after move. =\
overall, it was a great night. it was nice to see all divas featured, too, and it didn’t come off in the desperate way it usually does.
i do hop vicke somehow sticks around as GM though.
May 18, 2010 at 6:52 pm
Loved the backstage segment. Maryse is getting really good at those. But Eve’s sprinkling of that powder was ridiculous. Pour it on, girl!
I also loved, even though the title seems to be split, Layla did get a ton of time in the mactch & even got to start it. She should be taken seriously in the ring instead of just jobbing until she tags in Michelle.
Michelle is on outside so much these days that I forgot how much I love to see her in the ring! She always has those surprise moves that send the divas down hard. She’s an amazing athlete & I can’t believe people still say that she can’t wrestle.
I also think it’s funny how Maryse & Michelle still don’t like each other. PUT THEM ON THE SAME SHOW AGAIN, WWE!!
May 18, 2010 at 6:57 pm
i dont think they are BOTH champion, only Layla was announced champion on Friday and later on the Power 25, Layla defended the title against Kelly without Michelle around at a house show (good match) and only Layla had the womens champion caption on the nameplate.
Hopefully it all gets answered this friday =)
Good match, Nikki continues to surprise me

Layla did great last night. I love that
move she did with one of the twins. When
she went for a pin she first did it with Melina.
Evan/Kim vs Alicia/Zack was a great match. Everyone
did they part. I do kind of think that Alicia and Zack isn’t
the best couple because they look funy to gether, but
both of their have gray on so awwww. That match was
very fast.

I liked the prematch brawl and the women’s tag match. Looks like they’re finally putting something into this feud. The standouts, IMO, were Layla, Eve, and Michelle. Layla is especially turning into a well-rounded wrestler.

This week was great for the Divas overall. Everyone was used which was a plus!
I think the whole Layla & Michelle sharing a belt will lead to a LayCool feud. Possibly with Layla confronting Michelle, saying she’s not the real champion, etc! I hope it happens!

Very Good Raw For The Divas, Im Hoping For Alicia/Maryse vs Eve/Gail Next Week Because Alicia Will Do Most Of The Match While Maryse Does The Trick She Did Yesterday, Cherry Bomb Somehow Looks Like Taylor Wilde Except Foor The Mullet. She Also Has The Body Of Natalya Kind Of, Im Hoping She Gets In WWE Because We Dont See Divas Much Like Her.

It was a good RAW. I really liked the backstage segment with Maryse and Eve, but it was sad that Eve didn’t get a reaction, because I actually thought she showed some charisma for the first time. I liked both matches and the segment was funny. The only thing that annoys is that the only wrestling Natalya gets its bitch slapping douches.

RAW was definitely on the money this week. Natalya getting the look of pride from Bret was quite a profound moment for me.

Last night was a fucking INCREDIBLE night.

Here goes my intuitive side speaking on Michelle no selling…
(((I honestly think she just doesn’t want to look that weak. And even though she’s a nice lady on the surface, she’s also a very competetive one at heart. She’s got a huge ego and that’s both as a diva and a real life person.))) Those are my two cents on her. On the otherside of this, I still agree she’s a very good wrestler and works hard at her moves.
Anyway great review Erin. And just to clear things up from what I remember JR talking about this-The Mixed Tag Match((because its been pointed out several times)) works differently than an Intergender Tag Match. The Intergender Tag Match involves actual tags(I am a huge fan of the Team Xtreme Era) because the men and women are allowed to go at it. In a Mixed Tag Match you don’t need to tag to be the legal person. Men wrestle the men and women wrestle each other. That’s the structure of the rules, so no actual tag is needed. They’ve done this before.
And I also enjoyed the brief moment Natalya and Bret had against Y2J. It was good for Natalya. I’m eager to see her compete in the divas division.

Layla and Nikki did good in this match.
Eve is improving at a good pace and should stick to some power moves.
Layla and Michelle being co-champions pisses me off.
Layla has been waitng for one good moment in her wrestling career. All the jobbers in WWE have had numerous championships in the indies that they call their championship moment. And Layla’s had her crsshed last night. I heard though that WWE is breaking up team Lay-Cool. If so than this could be a good set-up for the feud. I hope Layla is the face.
As for Cherry Bomb I do hope WWE saw her matches on youtube. Some are iffy because they were from her first year but the lastest ones are great. If this was to show of her mic-skills since they know she can wrestle than fine by me.

I was there last night!!! i was very surprised to see Lay-Cool on RAW plus to see how many divas they used on the show, like you said Melanie. I’m really glad that the Divas are getting more time on RAW now, [its about time!!!] and i was extremely happy that i got to see this match live!!! it was awesome and maryse got a great pop from Toronto like she did when she faced McCool for the Divas Title back in December of 2008. One last thing, Great write-up!!

Nice write up Erin, I agree with everything you wrote. Last night’s Raw really delivered for fans of the women, it’s a pity the crowd wasn’t more into the six woman match – Layla & the Bellas really shone, Michelle played the comedy heel well, and you could feel the intensity between Eve & Maryse. Esp the backstage segment, it looked like Eve was really bashing the hell out of Maryse into the table!
This Gail/Evan vs Alicia/Ryder feud could be outstanding. I love the chemistry between Gail & Evan, they compliment each other so nicely.
LOVE Cherry’s hair!! The commercials were too funny although I felt sorry for Jillian getting spit on too. I mean, ew!
Very entertaining Raw last night. Solid wrestling, good storyline progression, and funny skits.

Raw was amazing last night. And I thought that I would never say that again. To me, it seems like Raw has been great ever since the draft. And I am not just talking about the divas. The show as a whole as been great. I was really impressed wtih the divas tonight. The segment was amazing. I think it really added more fire to this feud. It has been such a long time since we have got segments like this and I am happy that the Raw writers are doing it.
The diva tag team match was great. To me, the standouts of the match were Layla and Nikki Bella. I still don’t get why Michelle and Layla were even on Raw but I am sure there was a reason.
The match between Evan and Gail and Zack and Alicia was awesome. I do think that this is not just some random pairings. I hope this is the beginning of a Gail/Alicia feud. I would love it if they feuded without the guys invovled.
I wish Natayla could have done more last night. Someday, I hope she competes for the diva championship. Jillian and Cherry’s promos were funny. I think Cherry has a undiva look to her. Which I love.
All in all, Raw was great and I hope Raw next Monday doesn’t disappoint.

Raw was actually good for a change! :O
2012 is approaching fast…..
The backstage segment was great, but I would have loved to see it be more scrappy and catfight-like ala’ Melina and Mickie circa 2007. The match was also awesome, and the spot with Michelle big-booting the hell out of Brie (?) was sick! LAyla really impressed me, and now I officially think of her as a ‘wrestler’ not ‘improving jobber’.
Maryse’s reactions were great, but it would be nice to see her get booed more once in a while. I’ll make an acception since it’s her home counrty and she got booed backstage.
Eve getting a pop was nice, and I love the whole Gail/Evan and Alicia/Ryder dynamic. Gail and Alicia have always had great chemistry, so it’s good to see it’s not being wasted.

I thought Raw was pretty good, I love the fact that all Divas were used yet again. So the 6 Diva tag match was great 7 it really showcased Layla’s talent’s (even though she is on SmackDown) It was really nice to see, Nikki got a chance to wrestle again but i would have liked it more if Maryse was actually Wrestling, All she did was her finisher to finish the Match. But it was still good character development for Maryse.
Gail & Alicia’s Mixed Tag Match was good as well considering it was a Mixed Tag Match, Its a shame these 2 Divas haven’t been used this often before. And the place in the match where Natalya got involved in the Miz & Bret match was great to see as well, I just wish she would of done more than just slap them, Like maybe a clothesline would of been nice.

Good night for Divas
But seriously, I’ve seen jobbers get more of a reaction than Eve. seriously WWE, Give up! No-one cares about Eve

Best Raw, for divas in a long time.
I personally think that mixed tag match was awesome and Alicia and Gail really shined in the ring and their personalities did actually come out, like when Alicia jumped infront of Evan, or when Gail came in for the save, they just both shone.
Maryse & Lay-Cool vs Eve & The Bella Twins was a good match, the Bella’s surprised me and they showed that they can hang in the ring, Michelle….was Michelle, Maryse held her character very well as usual and jumped in for the win, Eve impressed me in the match mostly at the end when she went for the attack on Maryse, but i was surpised Maryse didnt back down and play coward, but i kind of liked that both divas were going at it. But overall in the match the womans champion….woops ‘co champ’
Layla impressed me the most, she has really come into her own and i believe she is good enough to be champion and personally in this match she was no doubt the best in the ring, i can see Layla (this year) really improving andd becoming a main event diva.
Cherry Bomb……well, though she is great in the ring, i still dont see this diva look but maybe thats a good thing break the mould, you know. But i personally wasn’t a fan of her hair the colouring and it seemed slightly greesy; im not sure about Cherry Bomb but i think wwe may aswell sign her to fcw and help her change and look and personallity

Hell yeah RAW! This was an amazing week for Divas action. I’m really thinking, hearing the announcers that the title is only on Michelle cause of storyline… I’m hoping. Gail Kim and Alicia Fox are amazing and it kinda annoys me that the ref and Brie wouldnt let Maryse and Eve go at it!
May 20, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Best Raw of the year as for the Divas…And a great episode by itself! Kudos to everyone,it was really great! I hope they’ll continue this way… =)
