The “Super Hardcore Anime” herself, LuFisto, joins us for the latest edition of the Women of Wrestling Podcast. With her return to the ring this weekend at NCW Femmes Fatales III, LuFisto talks candidly about a host of subjects, including her recent health issues, her career to date, the development of the LuFisto character, wrestling hardcore style, being accepted as a woman in a man’s world, the ambitions she has left as she slows down her career, and how she not only defeated, but disbanded, an entire State Athletic Commission. It may be genetically impossible not to like LuFisto!

We at the Women of Wrestling Podcast would also like to invite listeners to consider sponsoring Canadian pro-wrestler Cat Power in her sponsored run for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC “Run For The Cure” fundraiser in October. She’s already reached her fundraising target, but I’m sure even just a few dollars extra will be greatly appreciated. Click here to support.

  1. Great interview and pre-interview news round-up! I have to say Lee, I think some of your lines were top-notch in this podcast. You’ve definitely won me over after I said your were very much like Matt Striker (which came across as slightly negative even though I like him on commentary) but anyway yeah this line was fantastic;

“She was as spicy as a korma”

    Love it haha!

Really good interview with LuFisto too. I’ve not been familiar with her work and only knew of her after news of her stroke broke out which is a shame such bad news brough her to my attention, but thank god she’s ok. Seems like she definitely the lucky one in her family.

I didn’t know she was at the helm of Femme Fatale either (my research skills are not up to scratch at all!) and I’m really excited to see what the company has to offer along with the FFL.

Can’t wait for the Katie Lea interview!

  2. God i love LuFisto so much. She’s such a sweetheart and i’m so glad she’s over her health problems.

Awesome interview as usual. I’m really hoping that at some point you interview Mercedes Martinez, Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa and maybe a blast from the past with Rebecca Knox[fingers crossed].

  3. xxQOXxx, I definitely have all three of the current ladies you mention on my radar for future shows. All three will have loads of great stories, I can be sure of that.

As far as Rebecca Knox is concerned, I don’t know if you’re aware or not, but it was actually me that got the world exclusive first interview with Knox in September 2007 after she’d been essentially incommunicado from everybody in the business for about a year following her injury – that was part of my previous British Wrestling oriented podcast, “The $&M Show” with my buddy Moj. I had various people contacting me saying “Where the HELL did you find K-Nox?!!” for weeks afterwards!

Well, then there was the aborted return for SHIMMER/ChickFight in 2008, and that’s basically it as far as Rebecca was concerned in the wrestling business. She seems content to be well out of it, so if she’s happy, I can’t complain – but it’s a shame too, because she really was *that* good. I suppose what I’m saying is that I’m not sure there’s much else I can really ask her.

Funny story about back in those days when I did the $&M Show – our big “rival” was a podcast called ‘PowerSlam Radio’, which also featured two guys chatting about British Wrestling and doing interviews. One of the co-hosts was a certain fellow called Lee Burton. Both Lee & I used to push the womens wrestling envelope on our respective shows… so I guess the eventual formation of the Women of Wrestling Podcast was always on the cards.

Thanks for the comments too, Jack5326. A lot of this site is geared towards WWE/TNA (as it should be as they’re the national promotions with worldwide TV coverage), but there’s a wide world of talent out there that isn’t on TV every week. The whole point of the Women of Wrestling podcast is to try and spread that spotlight around – which is why in part that I asked LuFi about who she really rated as future stars in Femmes Fatales (who outside of the hardcores has heard of Kalamity for example?), or why we spent a good amount of time with Kong talking about stuff that wasn’t just TNA related. We’ve got nothing against WWE/TNA at all, but if we can educate as well as entertain, we’re doing our jobs.

Getting back to the point though… isn’t LuFisto awesome?! ;o)

  4. WOW, i didn’t know about you interviewing her before. Anyone know if it’s still online somewhere?. I’d love to hear it.

I’d also like to say how good your podcasts are. So many times you listen to women in wrestling being interviewed and the interviewee asks the dumbest questions imaginable but you guys actually do you homework and know what to ask. Excellent work.

  5. I had a look last night and the original file isn’t available online any more – the site that hosted The $&M Show (britwres.com) has long since fallen into disuse. I will still have the original file around somewhere (I have half a clue it’ll be on my old laptop). If I can find it, I’ll let you know.

  6. Great show guys. I love Lufisto would love to see her on my TV screen.
I would also love to see you guys interview Sweet Saraya – I just want to know if she actually wrestled Justin Lee Colins.

  7. ^^
There’s a smallish interview with Saraya at the ProWrestling Eve show on Episode 6 Jemma Palmer interview.

    Thanks Stew.

  8. Yeah I know I was listing to it before i posted. I just love me a bit of Saraya.

  9. EXCELLENT INTERVIEW.

  10. Awesome interview! Lufisto is one of my favorite wrestlers ever!

I really liked the character she played in ROH against Daizee Haze and I think it’d be smart of them to bring her back. Not only is she capable of having great matches with women, but she can more than hold her own against guys as well.

It’s also great to hear she’s doing good health-wise. I can’t wait to see how she does when she steps back into the ring. And against Sara Del Rey?! You cannot go wrong with a match like that, it should be a classic.

I would also like to see her win the Shimmer Title at some point. Her and Cheerleader Melissa are two that I’m always pulling for when it comes to that.

  11. Well I for one totally appreciate and luv ur show!! and ur right, this site is wayy WWE/TNA heavy, I mean hello it’s called DIVA-dirt lol And no offense to Melanie or w/e, bt I thought it was kinda disappointing tht their interview with Kong was strictly about TNA and thts one thing I really appreciated about your interview, was that you asked her about her other career highlights, particularly in Japan which I was hoping Mel n co. were goin to touch on in their interview. I think its great there are stuff like this for the women on the independents because unless your buying the tickets or on their websites, the vast majority arent going to hear about it so what is the point? I mean no offense, but womens wrestling outside of TNA/WWE need SO MUCH more attention and the word really needs to get out, especially on such a huge site such as diva-dirt.. this is a good start and I really hope in the near future there will be as much feature articles and attention to independent womens wrestling as WWE/TNA on diva-dirt.

This was such a fun lil interview lol And I think her story is so inspiring, from her early days with guys stiffing her, throwing out a commission etc and recently going through some health scares. I understand how other girls are afraid to wrestle her because of what might happen, but as long as she says she’s ok and is all good to wrestle than there shouldn’t be any problems. . I’m really glad she works so hard for Femme Fatale, not only wrestling but the graphics for the website and I think its great she puts a lot of effort in pushing the young, local girls..it really shows her character :) And I really hope she gets to fulfill her wish of wrestling for TNA, she truly deserves all her happiness and success in wrestling..she has sacrificed so much for the sport and its only fair that she takes as much as she gives.

Good job y’all hehe! and I hope to see more..! (more of who is the real question :p)

  12. Just so you all know, LuFisto returned to the ring last night for NCW Femmes Fatales III, defeating Sara Del Rey in what’s been described as a MOTY candidate. She now advances to the semi-final of the title tournament to face Kalamity, who LuFi was really high on during our interview. The other semi-final will see Cheerleader Melissa v Portia Perez.

And cutymania, thanks for the comments. Let others know about the podcast, so they can get more of an idea on all the great female wrestling taking place across the world! And also, it gives you a bit of superfan superiority if any of the girls get signed to WWE or TNA, as you can say you’ve been following them for years.
