Raw — by Erin
We start off the show with some Raw action, pitting Gail Kim against the woman she defeated on this show back in April, Jillian:
The match starts with a tie-up, Jillian backing Gail into a corner. she kicks her in the midsection and takes a moment to flaunt before turning back, but Gail slips out of her reach and flips over her, rolling her into a quick pin attempt, which earns her only a 1-count. Jillian, frustrated, gets to her feet quickly and slams Gail to the mat by the back of her head. She goes for a pin of her own, and Gail kicks out at 1.
Jillian whips Gail into the ropes, but on the return Gail turns the tables, latching onto Jillian’s midsection with her legs and rolling her forward into another pin attempt. Jillian kicks out. Gail goes on a rush of offense, nailing Jillian in the corner and then hitting a free-standing monkey flip. She dropkicks Jillian one last time, with sends her out of the ring. Jillian stumbles about outside, catching a breather. Unfortunately for her, Gail latches onto her neck with her legs, slipping through the ropes and hitting a hurricanrana outside the ring. Wow! I don’t think I’ve seen that done before. It’s creative, but doesn’t look as deliberate as it could have. To take full advantage of Gail’s moves, I think it’s vital to keep that unpredictable feeling in her matches and so far, this match has delivered that very nicely.
Jillian gets her revenge pretty quickly, though, pushing Gail so that she nails the ring apron face-first. She slips back into the ring and lounges a bit while Gail tries to shake away the cartoon birds flying around her head. She manages to get back inside the ring before the referee counts her out, but Jillian doesn’t give her a moment to recover, as she’s on her instantly, kicking her and slamming her face into the mat. She tries for a pin, but Gail kicks out at 2. Focusing on Gail’s loopy head, Jillian props her up against her knee, pulling her by her hair and knocking the back of her head against it. She lets go eventually but stays on Gail’s case, whipping her into the corner. Gail can barely stay vertical, though, and slams into the turnbuckle and falls back to the mat. Jillian senses Gail’s weariness and goes for yet another pin, getting only 2 again.
She brings Gail back against her knee and latches her into a headlock. The crowd starts to really get behind Gail, and she slowly gets to her feet and battles out of the hold. she elbows her way out and shoves Jillian away, going for another bodyscissors, but Jillian telegraphs it and lets Gail set herself up for a face plant. Jillian covers her, but Gail again kicks out at 2. Jillian is flabbergasted. She slaps her and tries again, but Gail kicks out even more vigorously this time, showing increased life. Jillian pulls her back into a hold punishing Gail’s head, jabbing her elbow into one of her temples and her knee in the other.
She lets go of Gail, hoisting her up and whipping her into the corner, setting up for a handspring elbow, belting out a flat note Tarzan-style before going for it. Gail jumps up, hooking her legs around Jillian’s neck and hitting a hurricanrana. Gail tries to get in a few blows on Jillian, but Jillian strong-arms her and slams her to the mat, her head again being jostled around. With Gail prone, Jillian goes for a cartwheel elbow, but is met with Gail’s knees instead. Gail keeps her momentum, nailing Jillian on her way through the ropes before scaling the turnbuckle. Jillian stops her in her tracks, taking control and hitting her with a top-rope suplex.
The move looks to have knocked the wind out of both Divas, as Jillian is slow to capitalize on the move. She eventually does get a cover on Gail, but Gail resiliently kicks out at 2. Jillian can’t believe it, but manages to thwart an attack from Gail and get her in a backslide pin, but Gail slips out of it rather quickly, pulling her to her feet and hitting the Eat Defeat. Gail gets the pin and the win.
What a fantastic match! The really played on the strengths of both Divas, with Jillian looking more vicious and malicious than usual, relentless in her attacks on Gail and calculating in focusing on her ailing head. She’ll likely always have that silly personality, but it’s nice to see her have some seriousness in the ring and really pull it off. You wouldn’t think that the girl who warbles pop songs for laughs could come off so intimidating in the ring, but she does.
Gail’s no slouch either, and her exciting, athletic maneuvers made the made unpredictable, exciting, and visually stunning. She utilizes them in a way that doesn’t make her look like a spot monkey, peppering in more basic, match-building moves that other Divas don’t and, as a result, lack real in-ring integrity. Her matches, as exciting and flashy as they are, are not *only* that. Gail mixes flash and substance in a way that makes her one of the top “must-watch” Divas in the company. Hell, both her and Jillian proved in this match that, given the right amount of time, they’re both “must-watch”. All it takes is a little effort from the boys backstage to give them the stage to perform, and these girls will put on a match that restores your faith in the division. I won’t say that one match can erase all the cynicism from my black little heart, but it does give me hope that, if the bookers are more generous and thoughtful in booking Diva matches and storylines, the Divas are more than capable of doing their part in giving us something fun to watch.
SmackDown — by Melanie
Following perhaps one of the best Divas matches of the year thus far, Michelle McCool and Tiffany had a tough act to follow. Let’s see how they fared…
The match starts with the co-Women’s Champ wrapping her arms around Tiffany’s waist, the fledgling Diva then counters on the McCool and wisely takes her down by the legs. Tiffany then follows through with a headlock as McCool gets to her feet and manages to get out of the hold and wrenches Tiffany’s arm behind her. The Divas again hit the mat and Tiffany manages to roll over and apply the same move on Michelle. Michelle applies a headlock as Tiffany counters by using her athletic prowess to do a headstand and then float over out of the lock. Very nice mat exchange here between the two Divas. Tiffany then jumps back over Michelle and goes for a cover but no dice. Very technical way to kick things off.
The two Divas exchange arm wrenches but Michelle gets the better of the exchange, grabbing Tiffany by the hair and throwing her out of the ring. With Tiffany propped up against the announce table, the vicious McCool hits her patented knee strike on Tiffany. Another great, intense spot. Tiffany winces on the outside while Michelle gets back into the ring as the referee begins a 10 count.
As Tiffany gets back into the ring but is struck across the back by an opportunistic Michelle, who then begins hitting knee strikes across her back. Michelle tries to drag Tiffany across the ring but Tiffany holds onto the ropes and Michelle, again rather viciously, stamps on her hand. Meanwhile on the outside, Layla is clapping away and exclaims: “I feel sorry for her.” Me too!
Michelle is ready to put Tiffany away and signals the Faith Breaker and whips herself against the ropes in Tiffany’s direction, but the young Diva — still hurting — tosses her overhead in a desperation move. She follows through with an atomic drop and a back elbow. Meanwhile, rather unfortunately, Miss Tiffany’s skirt has hiked up giving the fans a load of her pink panties. Ruh roh! From the corner, Tiffany now hits a monkey flip and then smashes Michelle by the head against the mat.
Tiffany kicks Michelle in the stomach and Michelle falls on her hands and knees, Tiffany whips herself off the ropes and goes for a sunset flip but Michelle rolls out of it and beautifully counters into the Faith Breaker for the 1, 2, 3.
Comparing it to the Raw Divas match, these two blondes really did have a tough act to follow and while I don’t think it could’ve topped Jillian vs Gail, this was a solid offering from SmackDown. I was particularly impressed with Michelle who I felt was on top form in terms of viciousness in the ring which really sells her heel character. The way she stamped on Tiffany’s hand to stop her from holding the ropes, the knee smash against the announce table — really intense and vicious heel-like moves from Michelle. I also really loved Michelle’s counter of Tiffany’s sunset flip into the Faith Breaker. This girl is really good at coming up with unique and interesting ways of seguing into her finisher. Usually, it’s kind of predictable when a girl is gonna hit her finisher — to use Kelly Kelly as an example, her opponent is usually on all fours and you know that the move is going to happen. Meanwhile with Michelle, she manages to come up with unique ways to fluidly go from a move into her finisher and it looks surprising and feels ‘real’, like it’s been hit out of nowhere.
As always, Tiffany was impressive, really stepping up against Michelle and not acting intimidated. You’d never tell that she is as new to the ring as she is, because she sells that ring presence so well. I know WWE considers Kelly the star power but hopefully they’ll give Tiffany the opportunity to take the lead in this brewing tag team feud.
What did you think? What match did you prefer? Comment below!

Jillian vs Gail was epic! When the spoilers came out everyone complained “oh another match between these two” but this may have been one of the best matches in wrestling (men or women) in quite sometime!! Here’s hoping that Gail is next in line for a title match, she really deserves it!
June 4, 2010 at 11:30 pm
both matches were pretty darn good. but Gail/Jillian stood out more :)
Layla cracked me up and prooved that she really is one of the most entertaining divas in the wwe and ever “i feel sorry for her” should be added to a long list of classic quotes
great write up girls, you always do a stand up job
June 4, 2010 at 11:40 pm
I think they were both great matches… Gail kim vs Jillian much better then the smackdown one…. BUT, I think you guys overreacted, it wasn’t THAT good that I would say best match of the year or even close…
It is a great match and the best one in recent weeks, but it still didn’t flow as smoothly. There were a few weird parts. These too can put on great matches and are the 2 top wreslters the WWE currently has. BTW, the hurricanranna Gail did has been done by mickie a few times too… Recently with Michelle Mccool… She also did it with Katie Lea and jillian… And my god, a superplex is something new… The last time I seen divas use it is when Victoria was around.. doing it on mickie I can remember…
Smackdown match was ok.. Tiffany is so much better then kelly kelly… I just hope they don’t push kelly because tiffany already deserves it much more then her.
And I didn’t really Like that reversal into the faithbreaker much.. it wasn’t anything special in my opinion…
June 4, 2010 at 11:44 pm
I am loving Tiffany more and more each week…That girl has ‘it’…I’m excited to see what else she is capable of…I might be the only one, but i really like her entrance music…
June 4, 2010 at 11:52 pm
I prefer Gai/Jillian match than McCool/Tiffany match.
When Gail did the hurricanrana outside the ring to Jillian
was so freaking epic. Than when Hall did the top rop suplex
was also epic. That match was the best diva match
for 2010 so for. They acted like this could lead to Gail
on the hunt for the diva’s title. I still think it could be a fetal
four match for the diva’s championship Eve vs. Gail vs. Maryse
vs. Alicia. I don’t think WWE would give Jillian a push over Alicia or Maryse.
Hall vs. Gail match were a 10/10.
I really like Tiffany, the match was
pretty decent. I like the fact that they
chain wrestling that was pretty epic.
June 4, 2010 at 11:58 pm
God the Gail/Jillian match was brilliant. Am I pushing it by saying PPV quality? These girls are two of the true top divas in the company. I would love to see Gail with the championship feuding with Jillian. Raw needs to send a few of it’s girls over to Smackdown. Tiffany is a future Champion, I’ve always said that and she continues to prove it. I’m sick of McCool getting the spotlight over Layla. She actually made me laugh with her “I feel sorry for her!” line.
Has anyone noticed that Michael Cole repeatedly announces Gail Kim as “a two time women’s champion”? Does that mean WWE are acknowledging her reign as Knockouts Champ and in that case, if Victoria/Tara/Lisa Marie returns will the recognise her as a 5 time women’s champ?
June 5, 2010 at 12:04 am
Gail vs Jillan was better than their last meet. And that’s amazing.
Tiffany showed her mat skills in her match with Michelle. Usually she shows her intensity but she really impressed me. Let’s hope she gets a finisher soon. A submission finisher maybe?
This is probably the best Divas night on Superstars. My only complait are the commentators. Jerry was solid but that’s it. Can we get I match without Micheal Cole screwing something up? 2 time former WWE Womens Champion my ass.
Can we get I match without Matt Striker acting like a 5 year old. Or a gay best freind to Lay-Cool? Come on WWE. Get Striker in the ring again, release Cole, put Todd on NXT and bring in J.R back. At least he gives a damn about the Divas.
June 5, 2010 at 12:24 am
Awesome Week. Well Looks Kelly Kelly Is After The Womens Championship Since Her and Layla Have Been Having Matches At House Shows and Obviously Layla Is Retaining So That Means The Whole Michelle Beinq Co- Womens Champion Is A Dumb Storyline. Eventually Kelly Will Take The Belt Away Espicially Now That WWE&TNA Are Usinq There Younger Talent.
June 5, 2010 at 12:27 am
brilliant matches, highlights would be the Huricanrana to the outside by Gail and the superplex by jillian
and of coarse the countered sunset flip into the Faith breaker in Michelle vs Tiffany
I’m glad Michelle is doing that stalking knee attack still, it’s a move I’m glad she doesn’t over use, as it’s like the stratosphere in that you can see it a mile off, however if the move hasn’t been done in a wile you don’t see it coming
June 5, 2010 at 12:30 am
@thetommytommy he’s not recognizing her TNA rein, Cole is just an idiot
June 5, 2010 at 12:34 am
@LaceyVonErichFan,
“Eventually Kelly Will Take The Belt Away Espicially Now That WWE&TNA Are Usinq There Younger Talent.”
please don’t say that!! I don’t really think
they would let Kelly win anything in
WWE unless it the diva’s championship.
June 5, 2010 at 12:36 am
both were decent matches.
June 5, 2010 at 12:45 am
both matches was good Loved the 2nd rope superplex not seen that since Trish vs Lita on raw feel free to correct me if I am wrong since I watch lots of wrestling not just divas :D Tiffany and Michelle chain wrestling was a nice spot not seen that for while either.
I am not gonna compare the matches because both were totally different style of match
June 5, 2010 at 1:31 am
Gail & Jillian did a excellent Job….Superb I woudnt say the best match of the year but one of the best matches of the year so far…..even though i always say I wish Jillian would win some match…even though she dosent win at least she is being used , showing off her Powerhouse power I still have faith in Jillian and I still believe one day Jillian will b come Champion once again Face or Heel… ( Im hoping Face) I want a Jillian face turn send her 2 SD…..Jillian for nxt WWE Womens Champion
June 5, 2010 at 1:32 am
jillian vs gail kim is indeeeeeed! awesomeness! loved how gail did a huccurana outside the ring, the her other hurrucarana was pretty awesome too. jillian just gave gail a pseudo glam slam.. and that superflex wwooooo!
tiffany vs mccool isn’t bad either, just too short but atleast much better than the knockout match this week. loved how mccool reverse the rollup pin to faithbreaker.
June 5, 2010 at 2:12 am
Looks like J.R. was watching Superstars last night:
From his blog:
On The Divas Being Featured On Superstars: I’m not suggesting that we wouldn’t see them on Raw or SmackDown, but it might be cool to know that an ongoing series of Diva bouts would be featured on “WWE Superstars” each week. It might provide the lovely ladies more ring time and establish their in ring personas even better.
June 5, 2010 at 2:16 am
it was so freakin great seeing two divas matches that were actually good non the less i was entertained to the maximum
June 5, 2010 at 3:09 am
holy sh*t Jillian actually got an entrance!!
June 5, 2010 at 3:09 am
I liked Tiffany’s performance, but Gail Kim and Jillian Hall had the better match because after Jillian Hall hit the superplex I it was going to be my favourite! :)
June 5, 2010 at 3:28 am
Great write ups Melanie & Erin!
Now having seen the full match between Michelle & Tiffany, I thought it was excellent. Not as good as Gail/Jillian but it was just as exciting. Not too often you see chain wrestling between two women but both did great. Michelle’s really vicious, she makes a great heel she’s so intense. So’s Jillian for that matter.
LayCool got good heat, esp after the match. Kudos to all four women, Superstars really made up for Raw this week.
June 5, 2010 at 3:29 am
The Gail Kim vs Jillian match was very good, because both girls put on a show. Gail looked like she was in top shape again because recently she hasn’t been. Gail has always been good but i felt lately she hasn’t added that exciting match feeling like she had in this one. This match reminded me of Gail Kim vs McCool I, it was innovative, rough, and exciting. By the way Jillian looked really good. Her body was freaking awesome, her stomach is really flat now. You can tell she toned up.
Michelle vs Tiffany had some impressive match skills but i never really got into it because of the time. Smackdown is in desperate need of a new babyface because McCool and Layla have beat both of them
June 5, 2010 at 3:39 am
WWE Superstars, nah…………..WWE Divas :)
June 5, 2010 at 4:54 am
What a friggin’ incredible week for the Divas!
Michelle, Jillian, Gail, Layla and Tiffany looked GORGEOUS on superstars, and all played their part in putting out great matches. Gail’s hurricanrana on Jillian = FREAKIN’ COOL.
“I FEEL SORRY FOR HER” -Layla
hahahahaha
June 5, 2010 at 6:08 am
both matches were great! I don’t know why wwe are pushing wrong divas. Gail and jillian should be feuding for the divas champ and tiffany obviously is way better than kelly!
June 5, 2010 at 6:13 am
I think the Divas need to be a regular fixture on Superstars. While their time on the main brands have been good on some weeks and not so good on others, it’ld be a good thing to have at least, one solid 5-8 minute Divas match on Superstars.
Tiffany is improving a lot and I do like LayCool’s act, but Gail and Jillian have so much CHEMISTRY, wow!! This is like the third Superstars match they’ve had this year and this was probably the best one. Give a number of these women a decent amount of time and they’ll show you just how good they can be.
Good job WWE and all the Divas involved. Thumbs up!!
June 5, 2010 at 6:54 am
I hope that putting on two Divas matches on Superstars from both RAW and SmackDown becomes a trend every week. I pre-judged the Gail/Jillian match, thinking that it was going to be boring and predictable. Shame on me! I love that, silly gimmick aside, Jillian is vicious heel to the core in the ring. She can cruel and brutal when she needs to be. The Tiffany vs McCool match was great, too. Tiffany is really gutsy in taking some nasty bumps and shows some solid mat wrestling without slowing the match down to a standstill. Excellent night for the Divas!
June 5, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Gail/Jillian match – One of the best divas matches of the year imo. Loved the outside hurrincarana, the face plant counter by Jillian, the Handspinrg eblow counter into a hurricarana, and the superplex (when was the last time you saw won of those in a divas match, I dont think we see too much of it in the superstars match either these days). Overall, great match that told a good story, nice to see the crowd excited in this match as well, if only the other shows had crowds like they do on Superstars. x___x THESE TWO should be fueding for the Divas title, not Eve & Maryse, not that they should, I just think their time is up and we need some veteran time for these two awesome talents. =-)
McCool/Tiffany – Decent match for the time it was given, loved the ground work at the start by both women, kinda suprised Tiffany was handling that part really well. Loved Layls’s ‘I feel sorry for her!’ taunt, twas the lolz. xP Tbh, even though it is WAAAAY too soon for her, but I would rather Tiffany fued with Lay-Cool over Kelly Kelly fueding with them for the belt. I mean if Tiffany went for it at least you can actually believe the fued whereas you currently have a former stripper current ragdoll of the divas division gunning the the Womans Title. Just how believable IS that? 0__o
June 5, 2010 at 1:06 pm
Good matches!! i really enjoyed them! :D
both Tiffany and Kelly are getting more aggressive in the ring now looks like their both trying to become the top face now beth is out!
June 5, 2010 at 3:17 pm
Two good matches and even though Gail and Jillian stole the show, Michelle and Tiffany were excellent also. This was probably the best show in Diva terms this year with two solid matches with history. Which only makes me sad for RAW’s division. Jillian and Gail should be the main Divas. Jillian gets more heat than Maryse (who doesn’t get heat but pops, which is weird since she’s a heel) and Gail is probably better on the mic than Eve (not to mention in ring skills). In SD! it also saddens me that they give the main face spotlight to Kelly, when Tiffany is obviously better.
June 5, 2010 at 4:24 pm
lol Layla is wearing those jeans that we saw in loads of shoots a wile back, i swear one day every Diva in the WWE will have worn those jeans once XD
June 5, 2010 at 7:50 pm
i don’t know if someone already said this, but I read some comments sayin the last superplex by a diva was in a victoria vs mickie, or even in a lita vs trish match, but I remember Victoria doing a superplex on Michelle in her last match
June 5, 2010 at 8:49 pm
what a night…gail ve jillian was awesome, one of the best matches since victoria left these two divas should get a serious argent push
and the other match was good too..mccool is really smart and like mel said she makes it look real when she counter moves into her finisher it makes it more exciting
tiffany without a doubt is my fav diva now im totaly with her and layla…i dare to say tht if they give her the chance she can be another trish startus
June 6, 2010 at 12:52 am
Gail vs. Jillian was amazing. That headscissor by Gail on the outside was epic. They showed the WWE universe what they’re able to do in the ring.
Michelle vs. Tiffany was also very good. I really adore Tiffany. I’m happy every time I see her.
June 6, 2010 at 4:49 am
i can actually tifanny becoming champ but she just needs a new outfit and more of a series role rather than the “im always happy” role i feel like she should go for the good bitchy role
June 7, 2010 at 4:14 am
I went nuts while watching Gail vs. Jillian! That match was nothing short of incredible. I just don’t understand why the WWE doesn’t realize that we want Gail Kim and Jillian Hall, NOT Maryse and Eve!
Off Topic: Eve can’t even look to improve if she keeps wrestling against the “I Haven’t Improved Since 2008″ Award Winner Maryse. I think that Maryse feels a little too comfortable with her spot as a Main Event Diva, and doesn’t look to improve unless she is told to. I haven’t seen anything good from Maryse since she won her first title from Michelle, where she was in her prime, which is really making my appeal to her fade rapidly. I’m still a 100% BeliEVEr, but I hope that she gets some fresh competition SOON, maybe with the return of Melina, Gail, or what I’m REALLY wishing for, a feud with Jillian Hall. When they had that tag team match a while back (Eve & Hornswoggle vs. Jillian & Chavo) from the little action I saw between the two, I sensed TERRIFIC chemistry. I’ve really been hoping for a Jillian Hall push for the past 4 years, and with a REAL reign as the Divas Champion, who knows what Jillian could do for the Women’s Division. But I’m really hoping for a draft to Smackdown for Jilly-Poo.
June 9, 2010 at 7:48 pm
those were both great matches. Tiffany was amazing at the beginning of her match, and that’s what I like to see. I know high-flying is pretty (most divas are into that these days) but I love technical wrestling that those two put on in this match.
Gail never fails me. I love her. It was nice to see Jillian wrestle. She’s always been great. I hate to compare, but years ago when WWE still had “Heat” — Jacqueline and Molly Holly would wrestle often on Heat and I loved it. Those two weren’t currently being used on the main branch so that gave those two time to shine and I think that’s exactly what they’re doing with Gail and Jillian. Just because they go at each other more than once doesn’t mean the match will bore you. I love it.
