Raw Redux Does WWE Superstars (June 10th, 2010): The Fox & the Cat

Last week’s episode of WWE Superstars gave us two solid Divas matches, one of them being one of the best Divas matches (in my opinion) so far this year. That match featured Gail Kim, and this week we’re treated to another Kim showing. This time, she’s taking on Alicia Fox:

The Divas start with a tie-up, and Alicia gains control, locking Gail into a side headlock. She quickly brings it to the mat, flipping Gail to the ground while keeping the hold locked. Alicia gets back to her feet and Gail fights free, but it stopped in her tracks when Alicia yanks her to the mat by her hair. Alicia goes for a pin and Gail kicks out rather quickly. She latches on another side headlock, but Gail soon pushes her against the ropes, shoving her across the ring and freeing herself. On the return, however, Alicia knocks her down with sheer momentum.

Alicia makes a move for the ropes, but Gail grabs a leg, stopping her short and causing her to land face-first on the mat. Gail quickly bridges over Alicia for a pin, but she kicks out. After a few blows dealt to Alicia, Gail goes for another pin, but the result is the same. Alicia manages to reverse an irish-whip from Gail, sending her into the corner. She eats boot when she tries to attack Gail, and is subsequently sent flying with a hurricanrana. Alicia, with her long legs, is sent all the way to the other side of the ring and is practically hanging out of it. Gail stops Alicia from mounting a return attack, keeping her against the ropes.

Alicia uses the ropes as a refuge for a moment, darting away from am attack by Gail but turning right into a body splash. She manages to catch Gail, though, and rams her into the corner. She suplexes Gail and bridges into a pin, getting a 2-count. Frustrated, she starts to play a little dirty with Gail, ramming her hair against the mat and grabbing some hair. She hits a body slam and takes a moment to pose a bit for the crowd, looking quite confident as she winks and sends out an air kiss.

Gail takes advantage of this self-distraction, battling back and going for a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Alicia manages to stop her momentum, though, and hoists Gail up, slamming her down into a backbreaker. This calls for another pin attempt, which draws a 2-count. Alicia send Gail vaulting into the corner with a rough irish-whip, and Gail slams into it and falls to the mat. She goes for another pin, garnering the same count. She props Gail up against her knee and pulls her head back by the chin. Gail battles back and goes for another headscissors, but only it results in another backbreaker. Gail looked like a damn pinwheel there!

Alicia goes for two separate pin attempts, getting the magical 2-count both times. Her frustration visible, Alicia sets up for her scissors kick, but Gail ducks out of the way, hitting a series of clotheslines. Her momentum is broken when Alicia reverses an irish-whip and clotheslines her. She plants a boot into her back and when she gets to her feet, whipping her into the corner. Gail again skirts out of the way of an attack, hitting a scoop slam the moment Alicia turns back around. She attempts a pin of her own, but Alicia kicks out at 2.

Gail nails Alicia in the corner, slipping through the ropes and climbign up the turnbuckle. Just as she gets her footing, though, Alicia jerks the ropes, causing her to land stomach-first into them. With Gail draped over the top rope, Alicia hits a scissors kick, brining Gail back to the mat and allowing Alicia to get the pin and the win.

This match, while not as great as Gail’s match with Jillian last week, was still very exciting. Alicia has a bit of a vindictive streak going, and I’d like to see her expand on that a bit more, perhaps being more relentless with various submissions and choke holds. Gail was as firey and exciting as always, though I feel she may need to start taking out certain moves and not perform them every single match. It gets repetitive, and you know Gail’s got the ability to do more than that “nail opponent in the corner and slip out of the ring” move in every match. Still, she’s got the ability to make every match seem fresh with how she breaks out moves seemingly out of nowhere.

Alicia and Gail compliment each other well, as Alicia is able to take Gail’s high-flying moves and sell them well by flailing her tall body around the ring. The two of them have drastically different body types, yet they utilize each other’s stature to pull off interesting moves–Gail with her ring-spanning hurricanrana and Alicia with her momentum-stealing backbreakers. I especially loved the scissors kick parallel to the ropes–it was a unique spin on Alicia’s signature move and gave the match an unexpected ending.

If given more time, I’m sure Gail and Alicia could build something great. I love that there’s a venue for these types of matches, and girls like Gail and Alicia (and Jillian last week) are getting a chance to show that while they may sit on the sidelines on Monday nights, they’re more than deserving of getting a slice of that spotlight.

Every week, I look forward to Raw the most outta WWE’s 4 shows, and every week I am dissapointed by the Divas action. However, I’ve come to realise that it isnt the divas action in which I’m waiting for, I just prefer the wrestling to be live rather than taped. With that aside, WWE SuperStars and WWE SmackDown sure make up for Raws divas action – or lack off.

I love how there given longer matches – and when there not, they’re still pretty decent – Ala Tiffany Vs. Layla on SD! this week :D.

What I love about Superstars, as Erin also mentioned, is that the divas which are (wrongly) being left off of Raw, get a chance to shine; Gail Kim, Jillian Hall & Alicia Fox see a lot of this; I only wish this could be transfered over to Raw =/.

Raw needs shaking up, and not where the Divas are staying. Create writing needs to be sorted for the Divas – Knockouts steal the show on TNA, if the Divas can whip them into shape, Then TNA are left with nothing cus’ the male Superstars of the ‘E are the dominant force on TV as it is =/.
COME ON WWE, MAN UP AND ADMIT YOUR ‘DIVAS’ CAN WRESTE!
    (*Sorry for caps ;)*)

Totally agree with everything you said Melanie. While not as good last week, it was still an alright match. BTW, what was up with Impact cutting the knockout tag match. Does anybody know? Not a good way to build-up a ppv match and not have either one of the competitors on the show.

“Gail Kim the former two time Women’s Champion” I’m surprised Cole said that. :O

Solid Match-Up between Gail Kim and Alicia Fox. A 5-Star Northern-Lights Suplex by Alicia Fox. I see a definate contendar for Eve Torres and the Diva’s Championship . Why can’t we see this kind of Diva’s action on Raw ? I mean wrestling fans wouldn’t want to see this kind of action on the # 1 Wrestling/Sports Entertainment Show in the World now would they. Perish the thought. Gail Kim should be shipped over to Smackdown to feud with Team Lay-Cool over the Women’s Championship until the return of Beth Phoenix. Kelly-Kelly and Tiffany haven’t been built-up as serious contendars for Lay-Cool and the Women’s Championship IMO. Of course the big news is that Melina will return to Smackdown when she returns from her injury. That’ll be great too !

I don’t see what everyone else sees in Alicia Fox, they’d be better off giving Gail a big push than her. To me she’s the female Mike Knox, she won’t get over because she’s too fugly.

@Mark: Haha, he’s been saying that for a while now. Either he’s just being dumb or he’s taking the TNA title into account.

I loved the match I thought it was great there were some nice moves in there…Gail & Alicia brought it , it may not be their best match together but it was great on my count…. Like Erin said Jillian , Gail & alicia maybe on the sidelines on Raw but they get to show case their talent on SuperStars! All they have to do is give Jillian some wins for christ sake!!!! I would like to see Jillian & Alicia vs Gail & Natalya on superstars in a good 8-10 minute match….dosent matter who wins….I rather Natalya get the oin fall though lols

    June 12, 2010 at 12:41 am

Really? If Alicia Fox is fugly then there is no hope for the rest of us.

Superstars like the old wwe show Heat, shows If you give the divas enough time they will impress and will give you a solid match.

Why does Michael Cole always say that Gail is a 2x women’s champion? he needs to get his facts right

I know everyone has their own opinion but I wouldn’t call Alicia Fox ugly. Anyway the match was good. like I said before it wasn’t their best match together but it was still good. Please put these 2 in a feud for a title.

    June 12, 2010 at 12:55 am

Alicia Fox ugly? Hehe, yeah, ok.

Anyways, the match was a little slow for my liking, but I still found it to be a good match. Alicia and Gail work so fabulously together. Their movesets compliment each other well with Gail mounting amazing comebacks just to have Alicia crush her momentum flat with ehr power moves. It’s quite great.

I hope this is the start of an Alicia push, and seeing her win the title would be epic!

    Omg, I love Alicia.
    The match were great. I
love how much power Alicia have
    for someone so skinny.
I like when Gail was going for a headscissors
but Alicia turn it to a backbreaker. I also like
how Gail was going for a crossbody but Alicia pick
her up. The match was pretty good with different
moves from left to right, and a nice creative finish.

    I love Alicia’s attitude here. I don’t know whats
her character is but I think she’s just herself.

Please let Alicia push start on Monday.

This was great. It’s nice to see them go at it. I love these two.
And I’ve said it before on Gail vs Jillian — superstars is like Heat in that those not being used gets a chance to shine. I love that. I also love that you never know when both Raw and SmackDown divas will have a match on the same night. Love it.

gail was great as always and alicia is still impressing me with her moveset. it’s nice seeing somebody like alicia, who is still relatively new to wrestling, taking some of the higher risk moves as well as going somewhat back to basics with the moves she performs (kelly, eve, take note). although there did appear to be a few miscommunications.. they obviously edited out the botched sunset flip as gail was outisde the ring one second and in the corner the next. also, the first backbreaker looked as if gail was supposed to have looked in the flying dragon submission move she does.

sloppy in parts, but overall way better than most of what we’ve seen recently.

I think Alicia has a unique look, I would in no way call her fugly. Although I had the same opinion when she first debut. I think she’s an acquired taste or her looks are something you have to get used to cause she really is beautiful.

Onto the wrestling – This match was fierce as hell. Foxy makes me say fierce! This was one of Alicia’s most solid matches in my opinion. I don’t understand why these girls weren’t the ones pushed to the top after Melina’s injury. Alicia /will/ be champion one day, I have no doubt about that. WWE sees her potential and so do the fans. I’m keen for Alicia to defeat Eve in the next few weeks or sometime before Melina’s return and for her to get her hands on the Divas Championship so when Melina returns we can have her vs Foxy. ;D

Alicia Fox needs new music! That song is pretty much elevator music. How can they expect fans to react to THAT!

Another favorite match of mine, I like the way Alicia did her finisher differently instead of someone bending over in the middle of the ring, it gives a more like shock factor.

    Also, the crowd wasn’t great, and I hate the announcers. The only thing they talked about was the NXT segment, talk about it when they were showing it, THERE’S A DIVA MATCH GOING ON. If I go to a live show, I’m posting a sign saying;

“Hey King & Cole, Diva match is underway!”

  • Kaledrina
    June 12, 2010 at 2:27 am

“The only thing they talked about was the NXT segment,”

what makes that even more annoying is that the whole nxt thing hadn’t happened when this match was taped lol

this match was really good, i really liked the scissor kick wile Gail was on the ropes.

i think it was a great match, superstars seems to be producing some great Divas matches lately, and i prefer this to what was seen on both Smackdown and Raw this week

1:08 Hahaha. I was laughing so hard when Alicia was imitating Gail.

Loved this match! Both women looked great – loved that suplex into a bridge pin, Alicia does it beautifully. Vicious scoopslam onto Alicia by Gail towards the end too. I heard a small “Lets go Gail” chant, never got too loud but it was there.

Great effort by both! If they can’t get two minutes on Raw then four minutes on Superstars is fine by me. Both women are top contenders for the Divas title.

But would it kill King/Cole to actually comment on the match instead of talking about something else? Sheesh.

I DEMAND to see Gail vs Foxy vs Eve vs Maryse at Fatal Fourway for the Divas Championship. Gail should be Divas Champ, with Alicia as number one contender, or vice-versa. I loved this match. Its was nice to see Foxy dominate most of the match because lately in her matches with Gail, she has let Gail dominate. But this match didnt make Gail look weak. They had a great back and forth thing going on with Alicia using some nice power moves. Alicias Northern Lights Suplex would make Alundra Blayze proud. I also love how she took some time to pose for the crowd. I really hope that WWE continue to let this thing between Gail and Alicia build and give it a proper storyline.

I liked the match but for some reason, it seemed a little off to me. Alicia and Gail have such good chemistry but the macth looked a little awkard. I’m sure it’s just me because I’m a fan of both but I just felt unsure.

    June 12, 2010 at 10:22 am

I’m with LaceyVonErichFan, let us have a triple threat next week! Either that or let us see Tamina vs Natalya, I cannot wait for whenever that is going to take place.

Anyway onto the match, very good once again. I think it’s Melanie who isn’t fond of that Alicia attire, she looks like a flourescent bike sticker right? Haha, nevertheless I thought they both looked great. If she wants to keep a good look though, I’d say that Alicia needs to walk a bit more normal, knocking one of her hips out of joint in her entrance wouldn’t look good!

  • RedHotVixen
    June 12, 2010 at 10:37 am

^^^ I like Foxys walk. Its so sassy and hot. Its one of the many things that make her so wonderfully unique. I agree that what she was wearing was terrible. I thought she got rid of that thing!!!!

    That match was brilliant!
Both girls showed WWE RAW how it’s done!
Do Eve and Maryse not see these matches and think ‘damn they’re so much better than me’?

I liked Alicia’s finishing move, it was great.
I would like to see an eat defeat off the ropes sometime!

    I remember last year sometime
a report came out and said that
    the divas choreograph their matches,
I don’t know how true it is. But if it
true Alicia and Gail did a great job with
    this match.

alicia should do the axe kick in to a leg drop type since she always lands weird standing but i cant get over the top rope hurricanrana head scissor gail did to fox it was awesome, wwe needs to push gail, jillian & alicia over eve & maryse for the title since those 3 can get fans back into female wrestling…

I’m glad that Gail and Alicia are getting this shine on Superstars. But these diva matches only serve to showcase how much better the Divas Title scene could be with these women or Jillian involved.

SClub7, who are you? Alicia was a model before coming to WWE so what the hell are you talking about? When they put out the issue of Vogue/GQ/whatever with you on the cover you let us know, okay, sweetie? Smdh

Anyway, great match. Superstars is where it’s at for Divas!
