For the first time since becoming Women’s Champion, Layla finally gets herself a singles match on SmackDown, facing off against another Diva that has been impressing of late, Tiffany. On paper, this was an exciting opportunity for both rising Divas to show what they can do in the ring. How did it play out in execution? Watch the match below:

It’s great to see a fresh, new match up on SmackDown especially given the shallow talent pool that the brand has at the moment. We’ve only seen Tiffany in singles action against Michelle thus far, so I have been anticipating these two squaring off for a while.

Lay-Cool are out first with their NXT Rookie, Kaval in tow. As Layla and Michelle McCool take off their hoodies in their signature entrance, they toss it over Kaval’s head as if he were a coat rack. As they approach the ring, Lady McCool has the bottom rope held down for her by Butler Kaval as she enters.

It’s promo time now. The duo make Kaval hold their belts before addressing the crowd. Lay-Cool mock the crowd, yadda, yadda. Oh hey, Michelle’s parents are in the crowd. Kelly’s mom is too, but apparently she’s not important enough to be shown on camera. Oops. More mocking the crowd.

Tiffany Tiffany is out next with her own personal manager for the night, Kelly Kelly — they are dubbed the Blondetourage by Matt Striker.

The match kicks off with Layla delivering a hefty slap across Tiffany’s face but the rookie Diva fights back with some vicious forearms. We’re already off to a nice, aggressive start! Tiffany tries to whip Layla into the corner, but she reverses — Tiffany manages to catch herself in the corner and hoists herself up using the ropes with her legs now on Layla’s shoulders. Layla grabs her legs and throws them over the top rope and Tiffany lands on her feet on the apron. Layla screams at Tiffany and grabs her by the head but Tiffany fights back with another forearm and a shoulder block through the ropes. Tiffany tries to climb the ropes but Layla delivers a beautiful kick as Tiffany takes a bump to the apron.

Layla drags Tiffany into the ring by the leg and goes for a cover but Tiffany kicks out. Layla now applies a submission move on Tiffany, wrapping her legs around her head. Meanwhile, Matt Striker inadvertently reveals that he watches teen drama for girls, reciting the tag line for Pretty Little Liars. “Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret,” he says. Back in the ring, Layla locks in her submission ever harder, using her hands to elevate her — really nicely done. Layla then drags herself, and Tiffany, to the ropes where she uses them for extra added advantage while the referee checks on Tiffany.

The referee eventually cottons on and breaks up the illegal use of the ropes but the damage is done to Tiffany. Layla goes to pick up Tiffany but this time, it’s the blonde who delivers a mighty slap to the Women’s Champion. She follows through with an atomic drop and some big clotheslines. Tiffany whips Layla into the corner and climbs the ropes, delivering some shots to Layla before being thrown off the turnbuckles. Layla then tries to take control but walks into a small package and just about has the match won but Layla kicks out at the last second as McCool screams on the outside of the ring and gets up on the apron.

As Tiffany shoves Michelle off the apron to the cold, hard floor outside, Layla manages to regain her composture and blind sides Tiffany with a devastating Layout for the 1, 2, 3.

I actually went back and watched that finisher a few times because it really did look deadly and like it took Tiffany’s head off. Just go back and watch that again. Perhaps the best that move has been executed to date.

So what’s the verdict on this match? Despite being on the short side, I thought both Divas were extremely competent and gave as good as they got. I loved the aggressive start to the match with Layla’s slap and Tiffany’s forearms — it set the tone for the match which saw more aggression including Layla’s lovely headscissors submission.

Both Divas worked really well together and despite the length, there were some really good spots here. Tiffany really impresses me in the way that she delivers her moves — even just watching her forearms, they look so believable and well done. She’s not afraid of being aggressive in the ring and her moves connect with conviction. Her clotheslines, too, were well done.

Meanwhile, I thought Layla did a great job in leading Tiffany into a great match and set the tone. She can also be very aggressive and cunning in the ring and her spots including kicking Tiffany off the turnbuckle was nice. She really does have some of the sharpest kicks amongst any Diva I’ve ever seen.

Great match. Very enjoyable, if a little short.

  1. a very regular match but i liked it :)

  2. lol at the sloppy finisher report. i lvoed this match

  3. I love Layla’s kicks as well.

The match was very short, and
    nothing really happened. But both
    divas are great to watch.

  4. Awesome match ! Both of these divas did well for the short amount of time they got

  5. That was a good match! It was too short for my liking, but Layla really proved she’s one of WWE’s ‘Top Divas’ at the moment.

That was perhaps Layla’s best executed move to date, but not the best executed. I would have to argue that either Michelle’s Faithbraker on Gail or Melina’s Last Call on Michelle were the best executed.

Anyways, I am really starting to love Tiffany, and I could see her improve ten fold just as Layla did over last year. Week in and week out Tiffany improves. I mean, did you see her match last week with Michelle? It was amazing!

Just to add on, Tiffany is really game when it comes to taking bumps on the outside, and I would have loved to see some of that in this match. Namely when Layla kicked her off of the top turnbuckle. It would have been epic, and maybe even the Diva ‘Spot of the Year’ if she would have fallen flat on her back from the top turnbuckle. It definitely would’ve been extra-cringe worthy. Then it could have segued into Michelle ‘teaching’ Kaval how to take advantage of his opponents in his matches.

  6. i miss when Layla use to take really decent bumps…she was forever being chucked here there and everywhere, but i dont see it last often not

  7. I have to say, I wasn’t nearly as big on Tiffany when she first started wrestling as other people were, but she’s impressing me. Sure, the match had it’s sloppy moments, but it was fun to watch and both girls were easy to get behind, which is really what it’s all about. I think all four of these girls have something to offer.

Layla continues to impress. I agree that she’s really beginning to prove that she can be a strong singles wrestler. Sure, the promo wasn’t very good, but her strength is that she knows how to really inject personality into her *matches*…that’s where her charisma really comes across.

  8. Michelle’s mom and dad showed where she gets her awkwardness from. Mom did the cheesy “I don’t know what I am doing here..” smile and Dad didn’t look impressed. haha

The match was it was. I said Tiffany needed someone who can make what she does look important, and Layla did. That Layout was executed well, but Tiffany did a great job on how she took it as well.

  9. The match was short but good. I still wish Layla would get a new finsher though. I loved how they just threw their jackets at Kavel. I also can’t leave without saying Kavel is sexy as hell. I hope they have him wrestle this week on NXT.

  10. That’s because your parents are “FLAWLESS” but seriously, “REAL TALK”

They’re hilarious. I love them. They’re advancing from their ‘bitchy’ insults to their hilarious, over the talk kind that I find oh so funny.

I love how they treat Kaval. I think it’s wonderful. He’s so adorable — helping her up only to be yelled at.

The match itself was good. Short, but good. I’d like to see these two go at it more to formulate an accurate opinion on their feud.

  11. This week was amazing in terms of Divas action. The Battle Royal served its purpose, Alicia vs Gail was solid as and Layla vs Tiffany actually had me giggling and letting out some ooohs. This is the way wrestling should be. I loved Layla’s submission, and her and Michelle are so good at promos. All they need is a solid challenger to their title and Smackdown would be set.

  12. i love all their random ass sayings…firstly WWE trademark famous and flawless…next they are going to trademark Real Talk

  13. Layla had the real title ;)
lol just wanted to point that out.
Laycool is very entertaining to me now i gues they’ve grown on me
Tiffany did a good job and should totally get pushed instead of Kelly who by the way look smokin.

  14. That pre-match promo blew my mind. Usually, making fun of the audience is easy heat but apparently not for Laycool. It was almost as if the crowd wasn’t paying attention. Layla telling the already silent crowd to be quiet was hilarious, though. If she ad-libbed that line, good for her for having a sense of humor about things like that.

Match was fine. Not great but not bad. Tiffany seems to have the basics down quite well.

  15. Lay-cool cut a pretty good promo. I wasn’t big on them at first, but now have grown on me. A good example would be Sheamus, wasn’t big on him at first, but has grown on me after a couple months. As for the match, it was better than I expected. TBH, I would rather have Tiffany pushed into the title picture than Kelly Kelly. Also, that was probably the best Layout I have ever seen Layla do.

  16. Layla needs an actual finisher.

    I mean, seriously…a neckbreaker?!

  17. That was a really good match, despite how short it was. I like how even though these divas had like a minute, it seemed longer and more enjoyable because they don’t waste time.

Divas sure do know how to use their 1-2 mins very well.

  18. it felt like the promo was supposed to be longer, but at the same time it seemed kinda pointless they just went out there and pointed out Michelle’s parents were in the crowd, LOL at the fact they didn’t even show Kelly kelly’s mother XD

the match was alright, it was very short, I’m disappointing because both Divas are good in the ring even tho Tiffany is somewhat green and they weren’t given any time, i also wish kelly and Michele would have brawled on the outside

  19. Pretty good match, but not great. Layla and Tiffany are really good workers, though I do think that Tiffany has better chemistry with Michelle.

I’m actually really anticipating a Michelle vs. Kelly match. As you said Melanie, “Michelle can bring a lot out of younger girls” and Kelly has a lot of potential. As documented last week, she can put on some decent shows here and there. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Michelle go against Eve, Maryse, Alicia, Rosa, The Bellas and Savannah :)

The promo was pretty pointless, but it was nice knowing Michelle’s parents were in the crowd. Mr. and Mrs. McCool, I’d just like to say thanks for giving birth to Michelle :D I’m I the only one who thinks it’s funny that Kelly and Michelle’s parents were in the crowd, but Layla and Tiffany were the ones who actually competed LOL

    Overall a pretty good show

  20. much like alicia, i like that tiffany doesn’t try and be too flashy. the moves she pulls off work well for her.

the promo was a bit meh for me. i still don’t “get” their promos. saying things in high pitched unison and almost talking over eachother doesn’t work for me. i also didn’t like michelle using layla’s line of “i feel sorry for her! (tiffany)” at ringside, especially as layla said it just last week. it came across as trying too hard.

i want to see the old mccool back. the take no crap, kick-ass diva we got backstage during her feud with melina. she backs that persona up in the ring, but not in the promos. and i pretty much feel the same with layla – whatever happened to the “nasty” girl?

  21. @Mccruel, Michelle didn’t really add anything to the match, Layla and Tiff worked great considering the time they were given. Layla’s kicks are very impressive, awesome to watch, gotta love that girl.

  22. Short but good match! They packed in some great action. Tiffany’s forearms look stiff as hell, I winced once or twice when she hit Layla. That was a good finisher Layla locked in using her legs, it works since her legs are so strong. And the reverse neckbreaker is simple but effective, a reverse stunner if you will, really looking like you’ve done damage to the neck.

Tiffany’s doing really well I hope she continues to up her game. Layla’s impressive as always. Not a bad match at all!

  23. i liked the match and as mel said…tht neckbreaker looked sick…tif is the best of all who sold this move i really love both girls

  24. Tiffany continues to impress…I’m very excited to see where she goes from here…

I found it kind of odd that Layla was introduces as ‘self-professed co-Womens’s Champion’…I think it would add more interest if she was introduces as the Women’s Champion and then Michelle read the announcer the riot act…It was also add some realism to the co-Women’s Champion storyline (having a WWE employee announce Layla as the real champion and ignoring Michelle’s belt)…

  25. Promo…. boring, Match…. really boring, though I did like the finisher. Laycool is just so stale to me now, and Tiffany is blah.

  26. Just a note but Lay-Cool is Number 10 on the Power 25 on wwe.com I think thats a new record for a diva to reach that high.

  27. Both Tiffany and Layla did good. Sure it was brief as most diva encounters are, but I feel they did good all things considered. Once again Tiffany is showing agression that I don’t see in other more experienced lady wrestlers.
I’m not going to brand her the next best thing, but she is certainly making a case for it with what she’s offered in the ring so far. The only thing that bothered me was her theme music…seriously, did anyone else feel as if they were seeing an advertisement for Barbie during the entrance? Life Size Barbies I’m telling ya..lol.

Layla is also impressive again. Again, the match was short and wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I’m simply saying that the girls worked well with what they were given. So thumbs up to all three of them. And I’m not trusting the spoilers again…hopefully ill be the one giving them(from my phone)next month on Smackdown! Any poster ideas are welcome! ;)

  28. Yeah @Kaledrina I thought I was the only one to pick up on that… Michelles use of “

  29. Anyways the macth was very agressive and I can believe that both divas tried their best. I like the way Tiffany throws her forearms. It’s lke Trish Stratus’s when she was heel. And I love the kick that Layla gave. What I like about her and tiffany is that they will take shotes to the floor, go over the tope rope in a battle royal, etc. They can’t be broken.

  30. “I feel sorry for her” seemed like a desperate attempt at cashing in on Layla’s great deliverance! Layla alwasy impresses me in ring wise I do miss the ‘Nasty Girl’ theme… her kicks are A-MA-ZING and her deliverance of the LAYOUT was pretty EPIC if I do say so myself! Layla’s line “I can’t believe people gave birth to these people” was ACE hahahaha she’s a comic genius people always has been and she is a brilliant heel (not the best as Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley will always have that title) but the best around! GO TEAM LAY”KAV”OOL you are simply Famous and Flawless!!! XD

  31. Wonderful match:) Layla & Tiff Tiff were has good as ever. Kaval was funny lol. Michelle looked flawless(besides that dress). Go Lay-Cool!!!

  32. The promo was very well executed, and it got a decent amount of heat from the crowd, loved the “I can’t believe people gave birth to these people” line. The match was good, I just would’ve liked an extra minute or two but Tiffany/Layla did well with the time they had, I still think that Layla should try out a new finisher though. Im loving the partnership with Kaval too, its hilarious.

  33. In a short space of time Tiffany has impressed people far more than Kelly has. Take those clotheline for example: Tiffany hits them with real force and aggression, whereas Kellys clotheslines couldnt knock over a candle. Tiffany knows how to make it look like she is totally kicking someones ass, but Kelly gingerly delivers blows as if she is afraid that she is going to break her opponent. And Tiffany is not afraid to take some nasty bumps, while Kelly is visibly afraid to get hurt. Kelly already has the crowd on her side. If she would just stop relying on her opponents to carry her, roll up her sleeves and show us that she is ready to get serious in the ring, she would earn alot of respect.

  34. Oh yeah, the match. It suffered greatly due to the time. But Layla and Tiffany worked really well with what they had. Poor Kaval. If he doesnt kill LayCool before the end of this season of NXT…..

  35. Ok first of my girl KELLY looked HOTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the match was good but to short and i just dont understand what everybody sees in TIFFANY i really dont and @REDHOTVIXEN what are you talking about KELLY not taking any bumps who took the COUGAR SPLASH during the godawful WM match K2 whos took the GLAMSLAM more than probaly anybody KELLY what bumps has TIFF took none that i can think of.
    K2 WOMENS CHAMP 2010

  36. I listened to this on the YouTube clip after reading that the promo got decent heat, and it doesn’t come across as badly when listening on headphones with the volume up real loud on the computer. On TV in HD quality, though, the lack of reaction was really noticable, especially for a promo where the fans themselves were mocked and the fact that Swagger, Punk, and Vickie’s heat all came across big time on TV.

Also, I forgot to mention it eariler, but Layla’s finisher looked awesome. I read someone call it sloppy in the spoilers, but it was great.

  37. sorry for commenting twice but im new to this site so can anybody tell me how to put an image on here thanks

  38. i would just like to say, a lot of ppl on the internet are started to say how LayCools promos are dull and/or boring. The way i see it, it serves its purpose in irritating everyone, and also, they dont really write the promos, what we should focus on is how they deliver the promo, and they always deliver it greatly imo

  39. The promo was okay but the unison high-pitch voices are sounding like chalk on a chalkboard to my ears!
The match was good given the amount of time they had. Tiffany is a trooper! I like her wrestling style but I wish she’d change her ring attire! What was the point of having Kelly come with her to the ring?
Layla is just awesome. That kick she did was wicked! I had to rewind the video to look at it again, wow. Kudos to Tiffany b/c she sold the Layout very well, that’s the best one ever!
BTW, Kaval is so fine OMG!!

  40. *nails on a chalkboard* lol

  41. I loved the match and I agree with the all round consensus that The Layout from this match was the best it’s ever been executed, and that’s also down to Tiffany’s excellent selling. I think she’s been beaten by the move twice now and the way she lands looks as though she’s had her neck broke. Excellent stuff. And Layla doesn’t need a new finisher to whoever saiud she does, it’s not just a regular neckbreaker, it’s a Hangman’s Neckbreaker which when sold right, looks deadly.

We need to see something else now though as we can’t see anymore pointless tag and singles bouts. Tiffany and Kelly really need to humiliate Laycool as payback for all the losses they’ve had recently.

  42. @ KELLYKELLY- How to get the image of your choice: Go to the User Panel, click on Get A Gravatar and follow the steps. Its quite easy. And welcome to the DD family. I stand by what I said about Kelly. She doesnt push herself in the ring. She relies too heavily on her opponents. She uses the same spots in her matches so much that all of her matches look the same and you know what she is going do before she even does it. Look, no disrespect meant. Its just my opinion. We dont all agree all the time. There are alot of people that share your point of view and I totally respect that. Let just agree to disagree?

  43. Cole: ‘Here comes the BLOND-TORAGE’

LOL has he been watching repeats of TNA lately? (‘KONG-TORAGE’)?

  44. i think the match was ok for its time they did look awkward afew times but nothing bad & i wish they’d let layla talk more on the mic, Michelle aint gonna get crowd reaction with her voice while layla is a natural pro on the mic…

why not have lays finisher a kick? not many divas have had a kick as a finisher or use the hangman neckbreaker as a set up move to it?.

  45. i agree with the kelly comments her dropkicks & clotheslines are just awful while tiffany lays them in & makes them look real.

  46. Ahh, I just love it when Matt Striker sings along to Michelle’s entrance music.
‘You’re not enough for me…’ Ha. Brilliant.
Anyway, yeah it was an alright match, but it was REALLY short. Kaval’s facial expressions are priceless; I’m kinda hoping his relationship with Laycool ends with him kicking one of them – I’m sure both girls would be happy to take the bump!

  47. Sloppy neckbreaker … NO LIEK, SICK NECKBREAKER! YOIIIIISH! >=-P

Seriously thou, never trust reportrs from fans who say ‘oh it was boring and very sloppy liek!1!”!1′ cause those reports usually turn out to be false and we get decent matches, like we did here. Both women worked well enough together, the only things I like were Layla’s head scissors thing, her being a heel and holding the ropes for a 2, and the Lay-Out Neckbreaker, along with the nice selling from Tiff Tiff. Man Im happy she jumps down to do it now, makes it seem more impactful. =-P

Although I thought the match would be easily forgetful, it was a nice 2 minutes view, hopefully we get less of Kelly for this short program thou. -____-

  48. I meant to say my favourite things I liked were, lol typo fail. xP

  49. Not a bad match at all! I’m so proud of Layla for how far she has come in terms of wrestling. Now what was the point of the horrible promo? lol

  50. A good match. I would like for them to have a little more time. But the initial promo between the fatal 4 way contenders and Kane took a little to long.
