Last Monday’s unofficial preview of the big Fatal Four-Way Divas Championship match didn’t exactly set the bar of expectations too high. Still, the combination of Divas in this match and its fresh feel kept fans hoping for an entertaining match or an unexpected outcome. Did either occur? Let’s watch and see:
With Divas Champ Eve Torres, Maryse, Gail Kim, and Alicia in the ring, we begin. Instantly, the Divas pair off: Eve with Maryse and Gail with Alicia. Eve gets control of her situation while Alicia controls hers. While Eve and Maryse roll around on the mat, Gail irish-whips Alicia to the corner and goes for an attack, but Alicia moves, and the cat-like Gail perches on the second turnbuckle. She goes for a splash off the corner, but is met with Alicia’s knee to her midsection. Alicia suplexes Gail and bridges it into a pin, but by the 2-count Eve runs over and breaks the pin.
Eve goes for a pin of her own and Maryse watches on as Alicia kicks out at 2. Maryse didn’t seem too have much faith in Eve’s pin attempt. As soon as Eve is off Alicia, Maryse tackles her for an awkward, akward pin attempt that Alicia breaks up. Gail goes back on the attack on Alicia and the two trade blows until Alicia spins her into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. With Gail out, Eve battles against Alicia and Maryse until Alicia manages to get a hand full of her hair and stop her offensive streak. Alicia pulls Eve up and holds her prone for a kick from Maryse. The two talk some trash to the champion before charging her back-first into the corner. Maryse takes charage, talking more trash to Eve and pummeling her while Gail tries to catch Alicia by surprise on the ring apron. Alicia fends her off for the moment, but Gail manages to shoulder-blast her midsection, slip over her back into the ring, run the ropes, and go for a headscissors. But wait–she holds it in mid-air and latches on a arm submission, hyperextending Alicia’s right arm while her legs are wrapped around her head. Now that’s innovative. I’m as impressed with Alicia’s steady stance as I am with Gail’s tenacity.
Eventually, that stance breaks down and Alicia drops to her knees, but Gail holds on. Meanwhile, Eve locks in an armbar on Maryse. Gail breaks up her own submission and stops Eve’s, preventing a tap-out by Maryse. She then takes the same arm of Maryse’s and locks in another armbar. You don’t usually see babyfaces being that sly and resourceful, but this is Gail Kim we’re talking about, so I guess she isn’t your typical Diva anyways. Alicia boots Gail and stops her hold, taking the spoils that is Maryse’s injured arm. She holds it for a bit before relenting when Eve comes to break it up, and Maryse exits the ring like a bat out of hell before anyone else can attack her arm.
Eve stands over Alicia and locks her into a camel clutch submission. Gail sees this and decides to get in on the action, taking Alicia’s legs and locking her into a modified Boston crab submission. The two hold her in this unique submission until Maryse comes in (again like a bat out of hell), grabbing both Divas by their hair like an angry teacher, pulling them away from Alicia. Maryse kicks Gail in the stomach and tosses Eve out of the ring, Gail following suit. When Maryse turns around she’s met chest-to-chest by Alicia, and the two have a face-off, exchanging words and otherwise looking like they’d kill each other if they stared hard enough. Eventually Alicia has had enough and shoves Maryse, starting an exchange of blows. Maryse whips Alicia into the ropes and plants her with a kick to the face after she ducks a clothesline. Maryse goes for a pin but Eve slips into the ring and breaks it just in the nick of time.
Eve sets up Maryse for her neckbreaker, but Maryse slips out and both are met with a double dropkick from Gail. Gail whips Maryse into the corner and set her up for a top-rope dropkick (Matt Striker calls it, amongst other things, a double stomp?). Gail goes for the pin but sees Eve coming over to stop it ,and she proactively goes on the attack, pummeling her in the corner and prepping for an attack on the ring apron. Alicia pops up out of nowhere, though, and attacks her. Gail battles back and sets up for a hurricanrana, but Alicia gains control and drops her face-first onto the apron.
Maryse and Eve are left in the ring, and Maryse sets up for the French Kiss, but Eve reverses it into her neckbreaker. She adjusts Maryse’s position on the mat, climbs the turnbuckles and hits a nice-looking moonsault. She goes for the pin, but Alicia slips in, grabbing Eve and tossing her out of the ring before picking the bones of Maryse, covering her for the pin, the win, and the Divas Championship. She celebrates with her first WWE championship.
Wow, now that was unexpected. No, I don’t mean Alicia’s win, which was a surprise in its own right. I’m referring to the fact that that match was very, very entertaining and utilized each Diva very well. I mentioned in the Raw Redux last week that the Divas had it in them to pull off a great match, and it was down to the bookers to give them a good position in the night and decent time frame to do the rest. Thankfully, the bookers did their part, giving the Divas an early spot in the show (instead of their usual “death slot” between the main events) and a decent amount of time–over 5 minutes, which is an eternity in Raw Diva terms. Each girl did their part and pulled off exciting, unique spots and kept the match from becoming a confusing clusterfuck, for the lack of a better term.
Gail wins the resourceful award, pulling off an incredible mid-air armbar as well as bending the babyface rules a bit and taking advantage of Eve’s spoils (both on Maryse and Alicia). She was exciting as always and injected a lot of life into the match early on. She was the workhorse, for sure, and is the match MVP for me. Eve was, while not groundbreaking, good at setting up her opponents for another one to come along and take advantage of her work. While that probably means Eve the character needs to be more aware of her surroundings, it allowed her to pull off her usual moves, looking like a fighting champ that ends up getting screwed over by practically everyone in the match.
Maryse was Maryse–she talked trash with just about everyone and was the punching bag for a bit there, taking armbars from everyone and their mother. She had a sick kick on Alicia and was her cocky best in a confrontation with her, but her lack of aggressiveness in actually wrestling came back to bite her when almost every Diva had control over her over the course of the match. Maryse didn’t look dominant in the least, and maybe that comes down to the fact that she picks her spots, and this match, with its four participants, didn’t leave very many open for her.
Alicia, of course, was the shocking victor. She was probably third on my list of possible winners (it going Eve, Maryse, Alicia, and Gail from most to least likely to win) but she pulled off the upset in heelish fashion, taking Eve’s win away from her. She did well against the champ and Maryse and especially Gail–those two need to feud ASAP. While the match wasn’t exactly her showcase, it demonstrated her ability to play a good, conniving heel, and I’m so excited to see her finally get a title run. Where the go with this is anybody’s guess, but if I may make a suggestion, MAKE HER FEUD WITH GAIL KIM. Seriously, bookers, do it. This brand needs fresh blood, and Alicia as champ does part of that job. The other part is giving her an opponent that hasn’t been in the title feud for the past few months, and Gail is the woman for that job.

Later in the night we were treated to another unexpected turn of events–a 6-person mixed tag team match that wasn’t announced until part way into the show. It pits the Hart Dynasty and Natalya against the Usos and Tamina, giving those two Divas their first official face off that, while a bit too early, is still something we’ve been eagerly anticipating. Watch the match below:
Natalya and Tamina start off the match, Tamina getting things going with a rough shove. Natalya soon lets her experience take hold and kicks Tamina, locking her into a side headlock and tossing her over her hip and to the mat. Tamina fights free quickly, locking her legs around Natalya’s neck for a submission hold of her own. Natalya kips up and frees herself, but Tamina maintains control, wrenching Natalya’s arm. To get free, Natalya flips a few times, reversing the hold and pulling Tamina into a schoolboy pin. Tamina kicks out quickly and immediately crawls over to her corner, tagging in Jay while David Hart Smith comes in for Natalya.
The male action goes on until Natalya is tagged into the fray, bringing in Tamina. Natalya ducks a clothesline and hit a series of blows, whipping Tamina into the ropes and hitting her with a back elbow on the return. She hits two suplexes on Tamina and kicks her square in the back and hitting a Michinoku driver, going for the pin, but it is broken by an Uso. The men battle to the outside, Tyson Kidd taking out both Usos. This leaves Natalya and Tamina alone in the ring.
Natalya goes for her spinning clothesline, but Tamina ducks it and hits a Samoan drop. She climbs the turnbuckles and goes for the Superfly splash, but Natalya moves out of the way, and nobody’s home for Tamina. Natalya waits for Tamina to get to her feet, and hits an explosive spinning clothesline, covering Tamina for the pin, getting the win for her team.
The match was unexpected, and on paper I would have said it was too early on in the feud for them to have a match like this. After all, their altercations have only amounted to a few ringside brawls. still, they pulledo ff a very entertaining match and Natalya and Tamina saw a great deal of action. Tamina looked great, but you could tell they’re covering a bit for her inexperience. Still, it doesn’t hamper the match, and Natalya did fantastic, proving why the WWE needs so badly to put her in the ring more often. Her clothesline is devastating, and she hit it perfectly on Tamina. I was surprised to see the Harts win, thinking that an Uso/Tamina win would build on the feud a bit more, allowing the Usos to retain the upper hand. Still, I’m glad to see Natalya get a bit of the spotlight in getting the win for her team. I can’t wait to see this feud develop and for Natalya to get even more exposure, which has been seriously, seriously overdue.
Match Rating: 3/5
This night, in a nutshell, was surprisingly great. I guess it goes to show that you can’t denounce an event before it happens, because I never would have expected to see such great Diva action. Alicia winning the Divas Championship was a jolt of excitement that the championship badly needed, and Natalya getting her due was just as gratifying. I hope they can keep this positive momentum going in the coming weeks, because after the past few weeks of disappointment, Raw could really use some genuine entertainment. You know, for a change..

I Am so Glad Alicia Fox won the title i didn’t want eve to retain it
and a Tamina and Natalya Rivalry Would be off the chain there like the knockouts off the divas division and would have alot of long matches
offically new favorite diva is Tamina, loved the Natalya Vs Tamina match ups, i see a good future for both of them, Alicia, Gail was great, Eve was alright, and does anyone really care about Maryse, i actually wouldnt mind seeing her get released
congrats to Alicia Fierce! YES! finally!!! aleluyah! lol.. hope that the rivalry continue between her and gail kim! they make magic when both of them are inside the ring..
maryse screams so loud, i had to turn the volume down abit and its seems to be that shes the target on the match lol..
and the mix tag team was out of the blue… need more build up i say. but still a good match. andddd awesome suplex by nat, very crisp.
btw, i read on a very reliable wrestling website that intially WWE have no creative plan for alicia fox and that’s why she was paired to zack ryder to become a her manager instead. but i guess the table has turn.. and E reverse everything. good choice E! :)
@ Martin O’Boyle miller…i am 2 plus alicia deserved the title…to me anyways
ans @ FCW Divas maryse isnt going anywhere anytime soon…i give you the reasons why.
1)She one of the best looking women in wwe(WWE has that “Diva” hot girl thing going on now)
2)one of the best heels right now bc if you look other than laycool who do we have thats a very good heel….
bt i love maryse character wise bt in-ring wise i just hope for a little more effort
bt anyway CONGRATS A.FOXY (^_^)
BRAVA, MY LITTLE FREAKUM DRESS! BRAVA!!! She truly deserves this moment of her career. Glad it’s someone with personality and charisma (unlike Eve. No offense to her). Let’s see where WWE would go with this.
As for Nattie and Tamina, IT’S ABOUT FLIPPIN TIME. NATTIE’S IS A FLIPPIN BEAST IN THE RING. AND TAMINA, for someone green, DID GOOD IN THE MATCH, AND NO IFFY SPOTS FROM HER. KUDOS TO HER FOR TEARING IT UP IN HER FIRST MATCH. NOW IF ONLY NATTIE GETS AT TITLE MATCH WITH FOXY?
OVERALL, GREAT NIGHT FOR THE RAW GIRLS. JUST WISH THEY DO WELL ON RAW ITSELF.
Fatal 4-way match sucked. Lots of sloppy work from everyone, the crowd chanting “boring” during the second match on the card is never good, and a completely non-senscial ending. Most everyone, rightfully, thought Eve’s win in April was rushed, but this is about 10 times worse as Alicia has done nothing of note since November. I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes out that this was some sort of last mintue change because Maryse or Eve, maybe both, recently pissed off management some reason. Either that, or it’s just one of the biggest examples yet of WWE’s lack of time and effort into the Divas. They hardly get storylines, and now with Eve and Alicia, they feel that just throwing the title on whoever means people will automatically care. They won’t.
Tamina and Natalya did fine, but they kept it short and basic, which is probably for the best right now.
Fantastic review Erin :)
Im really surprised of how good Tamina was in her debut match in the WWE.
Natalya did amazing aswell.
The moves were great by these 2 Diva’s.
The amount of time they had was short but thats ok, they had the start and the end which was good.
Natalya is more than ready to be injected in the title matches.
I wanna see Natalya vs Tamina, i predict that match will be great.
As for the F4WAY, it was ok for what it was.
I love the Alicia is the new champ but she will drop it to Melina when she returns, unless she is shipping off to Smackdown.
Their was a wardrobe malfunction last night.
There is a photo of it aswell.
When Alicia pinned Maryse, her shorts went up & you could see her.. *how do i put it*.. her cherry pie so to speak :/
Go Alicia Fox! Very Sneaky WWE Diva and My Favorite<33. So Happy She Won It Just Made My Day. Hope tonight we see Natalya vs Tamina action.
Melina Is going to Smackdown until Beth returns and Alicia will be Feuding with Gail….those are wwe new plans i have not heard any talk about a Maryse face turn but she might have a many feud as heel with alicia just like she did with mccool
@chrisP
dont be so negative. Alicia deserves it, look at her first 2 matches w/ katie&natalya, she showed alot of improvement. when was the last time we seen a diva power bomb an opponent, its been a while. Soo get over it, alicia is now champion everyone wanted either her or gail to win, plus she made history 2 times, youngest divas champion and first ever african american divas champion. shes better than half the divas roster, she deserves it, espicially her hard work in FCW and OVW.
About the wardrobe malfunction last night I’m pretty sure it happend twice to Maryse. First when Eve did her neckbreacker and then when she got pinned by Fox. She should never wear those shorts again.
As for a Fox and Gail feud I say hold off it for a little bit. Those two have faced of quite a bit already and I don’t think I can be excited about Fox vs Gail for the thousandth time. Especially since Fox just started her reign and it would be obvious she will win the title match. Maybe down the line some when it would be less predictable.
I know they should wait but alot off websites are saying that and if you look on wwe.com they say things about gail wanting pay back…there going to push gail into being the top face diva and she will take the tilte off of a fox by noc whick is in 3 to 4 months

I’m not telling you want to think, so don’t tell me what to think. I could say I thought it was great, but I would be lying if I did because I thought it sucked.
I didn’t enjoy the match itself, it was really sloppy and didn’t get going apart from the last minute or two. Eve’s first finisher was really well done but I think she needs to practise that moonsault a lot more. Im very happy for Alicia though, she deserves a title reign and I hope she has a long title reign. If she gets to feud with Gail and eventually Melina I’m sure she’ll have a successful title reign.
It irks me someone says a diva “deserves” a title. Like don’t they all bust their butts in matches? imo, the only time someone “deserves” a title is if they have show consistency in their matches (good consistency) and are compelling enough to the general crowds to build a feud with them. I don’t think Alicia is good or compelling enough. But that’s just me.
I agree with ChrisP about the match. Eve still doesn’t show any intensity. That spot where everyone but Maryse got on armbar in was dumb. Isn’t the point of a four way is to show different style clashes? The fact that Eve did a camel clutch, one of Maryse’s signature spots btw, while Maryse was in the match didn’t make sense to me. Especially since she didn’t do it on Maryse.
But I guess my biggest problem was Gail. She proved how un-athletic the other chicks, especially the one who went in as champ and the one who left as champion. It just kinda reminded me of when Candice was getting the push and trying to get the crowd into it by doing her best and Mickie was on the apron taking the attention away from her. The background music shouldn’t be more profound than the lyrics.
@Chrisp
“I’m not telling you want to think, so don’t tell me what to think. I could say I thought it was great, but I would be lying if I did because I thought it sucked.”
the match was sloppy but still a bit good it didnt suck better than eve vs maryse. also this could be good means Alicia/Eve/Maryse Feud, when was the last time we saw a 3 diva feud?
did u see how the crowd reacted when maryse and alicia got face to face :D its was a brillaint reaction when alicia won the crowd was cheering…..
one of the best pay per views this year with the divas….
maryse kick to alicia OWWWWWWW
and eve neckbreaker to maryse that had to hurt…….
im happy with the outcome 100%
I think you guys are looking too into “Alicia finally getting what she deserves”. It would surprise me if she just the transition for Melina. Alicia is a heel. Kinda writes itself.
I also wouldn’t be surprise if they pushed Eve to the background. She’s had the belt for 2 months and really didn’t do much with it outside of flubbing up and having people claim “she needs mic work” to be interesting in the ring.. Well, a lot more people on this site are interested in what Tiffany will in the future and her mic work has been non-existent since becoming an active wrestler.
i think that the hart vs usos feud could have some quality matches. that match reminds me of team extreme vs tna. those matches were awesome!!!
@ebmich as much as i disagree on your other things you been saying your right about tiffany…she hasnt had any mic time on sd nor eve on raw bt ppl here nva bring up tiffany!!.bt maybe the reason is that eve was champ and tiffany is just kelly kelly’s sidekick bt if tiffany was champ we all would want her to have mic skills…you see my point?
The fatal four way match was to sloppy, everyone seem to be rushing and out of place. Well I’m very happy that Alica Fox won that match!!!
“bt if tiffany was champ we all would want her to have mic skills…you see my point?”
Yeah.. I guess. But a lot of the women champions in the past never really got consistent mic time. Lita, Molly, Jazz, Victoria, Gail (lol), Candice, Beth, Melina.. And to an extent (depending on the reign)Trish and Mickie. For the champions that had reigns that worked aka positive response, they let the matches speak for themselves. Lita was tough as nails and it showed in the ring. Molly was super serious and it showed in the ring. Jazz was one mean gal and it showed in the ring. Victoria was crazy and it showed in the ring. Trish was the underdog at one point and the evil Jezebel at another and guess what? It showed in the ring.
When you got matches last night when the only one with a defined character (Maryse) and the other three just kinda do stuff and hope it impresses people, you aren’t going to get crowd reaction.
jerry lawler not remembering the jumping bomb angels was both really embarrassing and also disappointing.. he needs to go already.
glad to see a new champion and it was nice seeing gail whip out the flying dragon again. it’s a shame there aren’t more divas able to take it.. i think she’s only done it to mccool and alicia since her wwe return?
the tamina in-ring bits were great for somebody barely a year into training. she’s still way green but didn’t show it so much last night. congrats to her.
I feel WWE dropped the ball with the The Hart Dynasty vs Uso feud. This match i did not see comeing until atleast October. I felt that it was way to soon it should have been built up more we were all wanting to see this play out like the first Trish and Lita feud but they just seemed to drop the ball. The Usos had there debut match for one on Superstars no storyline progression on Raw a backstage brawl maybe a segment where they kidnap Natalya like M&M did Trish telling her let her boys know they are comeing for the belts this sunday then Tamina throwing her head first into a wall or something. Makeing this feud more personal then the match could have ended in a DQ hell breaks loose just a big brawl! I mean ppl are lost is she a manager is she a wrestler then she dresses like she is the Usos mom or aunt! There is no cohesiveness i would love her in something like a glamasuit a one piece just fierce! but i dont know where they can go from here i cried cuz The Usos is my husbands but i think they have been less than impactful they are just my sexy samoan eye candy with them sexy eyes and juicy bootys but lol let me stop
also.. just to add to my previous comment, i think it’s great how natalya and tamina do seem to be the key part in this feud. the cameras are usually on them whenever there is a run in, the way they both started and ended the match.. even the little things like how when coming down the ramp, the women are out in front of their men. love it.
im a huge mark for this hart dynasty/ uso rivalry!! that match was insanely awsome!!!
i love the uso’s tag team moves….esepcially the rikishi-esq move. DH and Tyson are amazing in the ring as well
Natalya is golden, and will one day be womens champions…..
Natalya by nature, Naughty by choice ;-)
I read reviews before watching the match. I later YouTubed the match (I’m cheap like that.) I think that it was too harshly criticised. Sure it wasn’t crisp and it did drag in places, but the ladies did better than I thought they would. The match also alowed them to show off their characters nicely: Eve as the determined fighting champion, Maryse as the self-preserving coward, Gail as not your typical good girl and Alicia as the in-your-face tough chick. I think that the match mostly told a great story, which is what wrestling is supposed to be about.
“jerry lawler not remembering the jumping bomb angels was both really embarrassing and also disappointing.. he needs to go already.”
Actually, I think he was just totally dumbfounded that Matt Striker would call a missile dropkick a “Double Jumping Bomb Foot stomp!” Heck, even Cole (someone who has trouble with move names) said “Well, I was just gonna call it a missile dropkick because that is what it is.”
Matt Striker is a tool and NEEDS his mouth stapled, stitched and soldered shut.
@ebmich yea your right haha they all did it without mic time…i think we dnt look like at eve like that bc she green & only has some highlight spots and she didnt show any fight til this match that she is a champ it was just blah b4 bt your right i forgot all about the past girls bt so much has changed over such a short period of time…lets just hope maybe alicia can gain what the past divas had and not follow in eve’s footsteps!!
I am not gonna lie. I wanted Eve to retain, but it is really nice to see a change. I have to say that I am realistic so therefore I not getting hopes on Gail to be the next contender. The spotlight is obviously on Eve and as much as I hate to say it Gail will just be a 2nd choice. I like Alicia and all and she has many attributes to be a great champ. But like Eve during her early run the people didn’t give a crap about it. If it was internet wise Alicia would have been super popular but it all about the shows and tv. So I guess WWE will need to do intensive build for Alicia. I love the match too. I like the spots and I also was surprise with the Nice pop that Eve had.
EBMICH: “That spot where everyone but Maryse got on armbar in was dumb.”
Really? Why, because they had it on your lovely Maryse? ;) It made sense albeit not being handled correctly. Why? Because she was in Eve’s arm submission first. And since the WWE sells that as a one of her (oh so many) finishers, wouldn’t it make sense for the other competitors to capitalize on the (supposedly big) damage that has been done by that particular move? True, Alicia and perhaps Gail could’ve stomped away at it but these are women in a fatal four way match wanting a quick victory.
“But I guess my biggest problem was Gail. She proved how un-athletic the other chicks, especially the one who went in as champ and the one who left as champion… The background music shouldn’t be more profound than the lyrics.”
Things are not supposed to be that predictable since it is a fatal four way. That’s its main appeal. Ergo, people weren’t supposed to know that Gail wouldn’t win and that Alicia would.
Furthermore, I don’t see the point of this complaint since Gail even seemed toned down in that match (perhaps so the other girls can catch up ;) lol.) Her only marks were the Christo, the turnbuckle crossbody and the drop kick (if you can even consider the latter to be a “moment.”) Eve did a lot… neck breaker, moonsault, arm submission on Maryse (albeit the bad camera angle.) Alicia showed her stuff especially by doing a power move that slammed Gail against the apron. And Maryse… well… Maryse did her best weaseling her way around the ring.
Plus, she was also made to look somewhat weaker than Alicia in my opinion. I mean really. There was this one point wherein Gail got kicked in the gut and she remained down for so long it was funny.
Now, given those points and combining it with your… um… “problem,” I would say that Gail actually did fine and it was the other girls who, unfortunately, didn’t stand out even though they seem to have “tried.” :) Sorry.
So Alicia as Champion wow cant wait to see tonights Match I really dont think much of her win sorryy if i offend anyone but she has to prove somthing I thnk her title reign will be like EVes but the reason she has the title is for gail to take it off of her and Melina want be coming to raw as she will be headed to Smackdown
Considering the people involved, it wasn’t nearly the train wreck imagined. The match MVP was Gail, IMO. But I think everyone did a decent enough job. I’m surprised that they would take the title off of Eve so soon though, especially since they seemed so high on her.
“Now, given those points and combining it with your… um… “problem,” I would say that Gail actually did fine and it was the other girls who, unfortunately, didn’t stand out even though they seem to have “tried.” Sorry.”
I agree. Personality only gets you but so far. A wrestler also has to be able to back it up with something more or they will constantly be “outshone”.
i don’t get why every bashes on matt striker on commentary. I enjoy him more than I do cole and King because he actually knows his wwe history. The Jumping Bomb Angels were wwf womens tag team champs in the 80s.
“did u see how the crowd reacted when maryse and alicia got face to face”
You might want to watch again because the crowd didn’t give a damn about their face off at all.
Think some people are over reacting about Alicia being champion. I mean she basically won the title the way Eve and Maryse did yet there was a little more build up with them. Alicia has one match before the ppv and wins the title? please! Im not hating I would say the same thing if it were Gail becasue shes in the same spot Alicia’s in. IMO Eve should’ve won or Maryse. Then who ever won would feud with Alicia at the next ppv for the title.
@eatdefeat. i completely agree. i love maryse’s character and her looks, wow. she’s almost the perfect package, minus the ring skills. once she steps up her game in that department, she’ll really be the total package.
And, I thought the best part of the match was Gail’s spots and the exchange between Maryse and Alicia. Both seemed to catch the attention of the crowd and WWE should really keep note of that. Gail’s moves, despite her not being over, can occasionally excite the crowd and I don’t think a heel vs heel feud would be totally horrible. The crowd seemed to be into Maryse and Alicia’s exchange, maybe because they both bleed so much charisma and personality so it actually looks like they sincerely want to kill each other.
Overall, I’d say the match was pretty okay. Possibly a 3.5 in my book. Maryse’s show of effort threw me off in the beginning (when she was on top of Eve and was acting like she was afraid to hit, WTF? As to where her kick to Alicia was pretty amazing). The best part of the match was Maryse’s amazing attire, Gail’s spots and the exchange between Alicia and Maryse. I so want to see these two go at it for the title. Maybe I’m biased, maybe I’m not. Just thought the two had good chemistry in the ring last night.
“You might want to watch again because the crowd didn’t give a damn about their face off at all.”
Seriously. The crowd was dead for most of the match, but especially that part.
much better than i expected. i love maryse and eve, alicia is awesome and my brother loves gail. tamina is rly growing on me andi hae always adored natalya,.
offically new favorite diva is Tamina, loved the Natalya Vs Tamina match ups, i see a good future for both of them, Alicia, Gail was great, Eve was alright, and does anyone really care about Maryse, i actually wouldnt mind seeing her get released
oops sorry at my last comment i was going to reply to someone and accidentally posted it, my bad!
I actually thought the match was good! Was it great or groundbreaking? Of coure not, but I found that what made this match so good was that it was really entertaining. Some of the spots were unexpected and quickly changed the pace of the match, and aside from the really good Alicia-Maryse exchange another point in the match that really stood out to me was when Gail was thrown off of Alicia’s shoulders and she ended up eating some serious mat. It got the biggest reaction of the match, and was totally cringe-worthy.
Another thing that stood out to me was that WWE let their current ‘golden girl’ get pinned, and by Alicia Fox no more! Does this finally mean the end of the whole Maryse as queen bee experiment? Probably not, but one can hope ;)
I wanna go on record and say, just so it’s out there, that I don’t care about the Jumping Bomb Angels thing. Striker takes risks sometimes, isn’t afraid to put workers over, and has been a very refreshing addition to commentary. He was born for this job. I got some flack from the true believers for slagging Striker, so that needs to be said. Notice every person that really doesn’t respect what he’s doing now (learning, growing and trying every nickname in the proverbial book), and notice that poster’s credibility deflate to zero. I didn’t know if I’d have to post that in the next fourteen F4W posts here, so let’s get it in now…
Entrances: Maryse has the best, without a doubt. Eve’s is not what I would want for her given the trajectory she’s on. Alicia’s is alright, but aimless. Gail I would love to see something fully-formed (wardrobe, gimmick, etc) but will never happen. Also looked like Eve may have a slight injury tweak which could have helped lead to this result.
Match: Trading submissions and yelps? Really? This didn’t do a lot of favors for the division with the general lack of continuity and fluidity. (if you wondered what that meant, ignore/block/ban me please!) Alicia vs. Maryse got a rise out of the crowd. With how TBP almost did a natural face turn, Laycool could be getting there especially with them buzzing up Kaval, it seems to be a Heel’s paradise for the ladies lately. It does suck for Eve, if you ask me, because her current progress clearly warrants more development. There was a time, before Trish Stratus’ heel turn, that she lost points for mic work. These things take time. “Stupid brass knows what you have today, most brass knows what you’ll have tomorrow, top brass knows what you’ll have next year.”
Overall: The finish was arbitrary, most that are cheering for an Alicia win here can’t really justify it other than something different. Also, at the same time, extending the division names a bit with a new champion seems a wise decision. I know they’re keeping an eye on some of these up-and-comers like Alicia Fox the infamous Wedding Planner. We’ll see if she has some more of her athletic spots, if they pop anything, and if they’re more fluid, and that will answer the questions about this one.
Finally: Nattie rules! Natalya vs. Maryse for the belt, feud it out! There’s even a Canada vs. French Canadian thing there, come on!
With the way people were talking about this match I thought there were botches right and left. I thought the match was pretty good. I thought everyone pulled off things well and it casme off okay. It wasn’t the best match but it wasn’t anywhere near bad in my opinion. The one thing I really did hate was Eve’s moonsault. I really like her but I hate sloppy looking moonsaults. Cody has that problem as well. Maryse was Maryse. Not really anything specail. I did love her French TKO though. I’m glad she brought that back. Her face to face with Alicia got the crowd going so maybe those 2 will feud or something. Gail was great in this match. She brought out the Christo and I loved it. Now on to the new Champ. I love Alicia and i’m glad she finally got the belt. I lalmost lost my voice when I found out she won the title. She has proven that she can hang with the vets and the rookies so she should have a good title reign.
The 6 person tag was good but all I really cared about was Tamina and Nattie. They both did good but i’m still waiting for their one on one. As someone said for as little wrestling skill Tamina has she did pretty good.
And to touch on Matt Striker I think he is the best announcer in the WWE. He is kind of annoying on NXT though.
hopefully we will get too see two diva matches tonight!! ^-^
Again, why are people saying the crowd was into the Maryse-Alicia confrontation? Several people have said it now, and I don’t get it. The crowd didn’t care about the match in general, including that part. Watch it again, and notice that that the crowd wasn’t booing either of them, nor were they cheering either one when they were having their stare down.
chrisp-You’re right in a sense. The crowd didn’t cheer or boo, they reacted. As in they rose. When Alicia bumps chests with Maryse you can hear the crowd REACT, or RISE I guess you could say. And the crowd WAS pretty into the match. Go back and watch the part at the end where Alicia shoved Gail off of her shoulders and onto the mat. That part got the biggest reaction, and you could CLEARLY hear the crowd “ooh” and “ahhh”.

It was a nearly 6-minute match. If a few people in the front row quietly standing up at one point and an “ooh” at one bump are the best crowd reactions, then to say the crowd liked the match is a giant leap. It’s like saying some diva is getting over because 5 people in the front row were clapping for her.
