Do I sense some tension? After co-Women’s Champion Layla and Vickie Guerrero made some defensive/unflattering comments about TNA on Twitter, three-time Knockouts Champ, Angelina Love took a shot of her own via her Facebook page.
She wrote:
So this is what I get for quickly flipping thru the channels on a friday night……a blonde & a brunette blatantly ripping something off……..BRUTAL!!!
About as subtle as a blunt object to the head.

Some people are making a bit much out of this. It’s more a toss back over the fence after last week’s we don’t watch TNA comments.
Vince’s Devils? Most WWE fans I know, even those who were watching then, don’t know who that name refers too. They were never really a truly cohesive act.
The act didn’t consist of much and certainly wasn’t as quirky or fun of the original BP. Granted, the BP has struggled in recent times. Neither major fed is exactly putting out a great product these days truthfully. This is also around the time Victoria was heading toward being jobbed unmercifully. Torrie has no use for Vince and the E at all these days either, as a side note.
It’s a shame the E seems to largely ignore or set aside quality performers who have experience. While hiring raw to the biz models. Hence why we got years of diva contests while people like Cheerleader Melissa, Angelina, Taylor Wilde, Rain, and Katie Lea are either passed on and or misused and then released. The E is not a bastion of how to approach women’s wrestling. They struck gold once with Trish Stratus and have been adhering to a faulty philosophy since. TNA had a good thing going for a couple of years. They still have a talented core. Unfortunately, they have gotten offtrack lately. Hopefully, things right themselves.
@mikas I agree and in a since it’s to there choosing. I actually rarely watch TNA myself. I’ll support WWE for as long as I can since it’s my general preference. Laycool is fine. Katiness is expected and it doesn’t bother me. The sense of professionalism I also agree with. But with the difficulty of being a success in wrestling there’s bond for jealousy or disdain..
The difference between saying The Beautiful People are ripping off past female group gimmicks (PMS, Vince’s Devils, ect.) and Lay-Cool ripping off TBP is that TBP is an active group. When another company makes a copy of a current popular gimmick its flat out thievery.
@vonville I do agree with that. it’s almost a I can one up you concept. But as I think you may have said there not really that similar. In minut ways but in the massive areas there very different.
it was @Kerry who stated that but yeah :D
everyone is right, TNA and no one in TNA have any right to talk about ripping things off. Seriously, she got pissed because of Maryse’s hairspray thing and now Laycool? Obviously things in wrestling are gonna be similar but Laycool is tons better than TBP in my opinion. They just look like a bunch of skanks running around but Laycool is more well-kept. AND Laycool can actually wrestle. “Jealousy is such an ugly disease. Get well soon!”
They’re both just updated versions of the original ”bitchy” all female stable, The Pretty Mean Sistas consisting of Jacqueline (the muscle of the group, the one who could wrestle ala Madison Rayne of TBP, Michelle McCool of Laycool, Victoria in Vinces Devils ect), Terri (the attractive one who’s wrestling was limited ala Layla of Laycool, Velvet Sky of TBP, Torrie Wilson of Vinces Devils ect) & Ryan Shamrock (the valet who did little wrestling ala Lacey Von Erich of TBP, Candice Michelle of Vinces Devils).. they even recruited their own muscle head guy named ‘Meat’ (akin to Kute Kip, Kaval ect) .. Instead of hairspray in the eyes or make up on the face, Terri would burn diva’s with her cigar and write on them in permanent marker. So Angelina Love needs to shut her yap.
actually Lay-Cool is no rip-off and neither is Maryse with that whole hairspray thing becuz during the summer Maryse sprayed Mickie James twice before Night of Champions (2009) PMS most likely are the original mean girls stable of wrestling but that would make any group after them with any charcteristics of their persona a copycat.Even during the Invasion angle it was more like ECW and WCW women ganged up against WWE Divas in a mean girl way plus WWE even stated this:
“The creative team is really happy with “Lay-Cool,” because there were people mad about the idea that TNA had created the Beautiful People and made their women’s division look second rate in comparison. Their feeling is Lay-Cool is now hotter than the Beautiful People and it’s really a copy so they beat them at their own game.”
WWE recently trademarked the term ‘Famous and Flawless’ for Team Lay-Cool also.
“Interesting. It’s hard not to see a similarity between the two groups, but I see differences also. In my opinion, Lay-Cool are a much more cohesive unit in the ring while The Beautiful People are better at cutting promos. Having said that though, I do believe Lay-Cool’s promos have improved significantly of late.”
“As much as they may be similar, they’re two different companies at the end of the day and I think they both serve a purpose within their respective divisions. Not that that will stop people playing them off of each other.”
when i read that my questions were most definitley answered there were times where i had to think but you also have to understand what goes on when the cameras go off in the world of wrestling.things most people will never ever know.
well lay-cool is just a beautiful people rip off….wwe even admits it….
It’s the WWE’s ‘forumla’ though lol.. Look generally I wouldn’t care; characters, angles ect get copied in wrestling all the time, it’s pretty hard NOT to in a genre of television that’s been ‘mainstream’ for such a long time.. What annoys me though is that Angelina Love of all people has the audacity to claim Laycool ‘copied’ The Beautiful People… Well if you want to get technical, TBP are an updated rip off of an angle/stable WWE did 11 years ago so now what ?
Don’t claim innovation or originality when your angle was never innovative nor original to begin with. Don’t accuse a company of ‘stealing’ an angle that technically they did first a decade ago is what i’m getting at here. :)
PMS matters little. That from a pretty dark time for women’s wrestling in the WWF. Usually worse than the recent Divas and Knockouts situations that the net still finds, often rightfully, numerous things to complain about.
It was after a pretty strong run they had earlier in the decade with people like Nakano and Madusa that concluded with the belt being retired for a couple of years after the previous champion left for WCW and tossed the strap in a garbage can. But before Lita, Trish, Molly, and that cast came along to start a golden era in the division. PMS was a blip on the radar. Not as significant nor as performer identified as Lay-Cool or The Beautiful People.
That ‘was’ from. (2nd sentence)
“What annoys me though is that Angelina Love of all people has the audacity to claim Laycool ‘copied’ The Beautiful People… ”
if wwe officials can say lay-cool are copies of TBP, i don’t see why angelina herself can’t.
“if wwe officials can say lay-cool are copies of TBP, i don’t see why angelina herself can’t.”
That “news” came from a dirtsheet, there is no way to say where that came from. I somehow doubt that one of the members of WWE’s creative staff said “we copied TBP”.
Ok lets stop saying bad stuff about Laycool and Angelina lets just think of this.
Angelina Love states “flipping through channels on friday night…” she did not say “I was looking at friday night smackdown which I watch every week” all Angelina Love knows is that on smackdown there are two divas with the mean girl act, finishing each others sentences and holding two championship belts.
If I didn’t watch smackdown I would guess the same thing
Oh come on! 1)Even if the WWE copied Tna in this case, who cares? Tna has copied WWE so many times and nobody said a word about it…The half of the Tna roster is made in WWE…What about that? 2)They certainly didn’t invent those gimmick…Mean Girls,VIPs and Snobs have always existed…Nothing is 100% original these days, why making an uproar on this??? The same speach could be done about the moves…Remember the Michelle/Faitbreaker-Aj/Styleclash thing? Moves are moves everywhere, they exist to be used.Somone invents them and someone use them…That’s how it works!
I used to like TBP but they are boring now. Lacey is the only fun to watch in that group now. Sorry but LAYCOOL is definitely on top of the game now so move over TBP!
I don’t think Angelina should be complaining. The whole “I’m hotter than you gimmick” has been going on for decades! I highly doubt that The Beautiful People, who formed in in late 2007, started it off. Why bash Lay-Cool? Bash Vince’s Devils, Pretty Mean Sisters, or Sable! Hell, even alot of the guys used this gimmick. Like Shawn Michaels (right after he betrayed Marty Jannetty) and “The Ravishing” Rick Rude! Why not bash them!
Wow, I love Angelina but she needs to calm down. The “pretty girls doing mean things” gimmick has been around a long time in mainstream media. The Beautiful People are a poor, wrestling man’s Mean Girls. The Beautiful People isn’t a ground breaking, earth shattering brand new thing, it was just an oldie that was still a goodie and yes, they made it work. But you can’t go calling copycat in an industry like this, it’s like when someone says “so and so stole his moves”, um, it’s wrestling and the people doing the moves today aren’t the ones who invented them sweetie and the same can be said for gimmicks and angles, etc.
The late very famous producer Aaron Spelling once said “Imitation is the most sincerest form of TELEVISION”
Most famous wrestling examples:
Road Warriors begat Demoliton,Rock n’ Roll express>Midnight Rockers/the Rockers
Lay-Cool & TBP are pretty much B@stard daughters of G.L.O.W’S Tiffany Melon & ashley Cartier with Tina “lisa moretti” Ferrari
and Four Horsemen’s two most famous imitators: WCW ‘s Dangerous alliance & WWE’s Eveloution
so the girls in question are in good company..
Did LayCool rip TBP off a little? Sure, just like BP took a little from Team Blondage, T&A(Talia & April), but mostly from the Mean Girls. It’s wrestling, pretty much everything nowadays is ripped off from something(Horsemen-Evolution, Midnight Express-pretty much every “pretty boy” tag team, Jimmy Hart’s 1st Family-most of the manager run stables, Gorgeous George-every “I’m too good looking for everyone” heel(male & female)). Let’s face it, pro wrestling has been around for over 100 years, when something’s been around that long, you’ll be hard pressed to find something that’s original & hasn’t been inspired by something else.
