It’s rare to see Divas being given promo time… they’re usually just thrown out there for their standard three minute match. So imagine my surprise when all of the Divas were given speaking parts this week. After main eventing Superstars last night, the ‘main’ Divas, Lay-Cool and Kelly were pretty much given the night off this week on SmackDown — save for a backstage segment. Watch below:
Josh Mathews announces that Kelly Kelly will challenge the official WWE Women’s Champion, Layla at the Money in the Bank pay per view next week and asks for Kelly’s thoughts. Before she can even get a word in, in comes Layla taunting her. Layla takes a can of spray out but before she can do anything, Kelly smacks it out of her hand and grabss Layla by the throat rather viciously. “What are you gonna do, huh?” she says to Layla.
However, Michelle McCool makes the save, attacking Kelly from behind. The two Divas beat down the #1 Contender and Michelle smashes her head against the ground. As they leave, Tiffany and some referees come to check on her, although the damage has been done.
A really short segment but after an extremely satisfying 8-minute match on Superstars last night, I’m not complaining. Kelly’s aggression with Layla was fantastic and finally, I feel like I’m seeing something from this girl. Usually, she’s just so happy and smiley and lacks a fire and desire but here, you could see that fire in her. She’s finally fed up of Layla and Michelle and is ready to fight. Good way to set up their title match.
The beatdown on Kelly was also nicely done and sets up this match pretty well, with some real animosity between these Divas now. That’s all I ask for: make it seem real. I want to see a real tension and animosity between these girls heading into pay per view matches and they did that. But my concern is that next week, they’ll lose all this momentum just two days before the pay per view. Hopefully not.

Seems like Rosa Mendes has a new gimmick… of training backstage? I don’t know if this even going anywhere but for the last two weeks, she’s been seen working out and being given odd looks like by other Superstars. Watch this week’s encounter with CM Punk and Luke Gallows:
Will it actually lead anywhere? I doubt it. But it gets her on TV.
We also had continuation of last week’s Serena segment. It looks as though there’s a storyline brewing within the Straight Edge Society. Watch below:
It’ll be interesting to see where this is going. Sadly, it doesn’t look as though she’ll be part of the women’s division but the fact she’s getting a storyline is great.

i heard it was cut from the show…i watched the tapings and nothing on my aj lee or anyone else!
Love the promo by Kelly, I’m actually starting to believe her as a title contender now. She actually has another emotion other then smiley and cheerful. Layla looks amazing with that title. Shes starting to look like a weak champion though, seeing as Michelle is doing all the brawling and Layla seems to keep getting beaten up. I hope she comes out on top at MITB and shows some strength.
I enjoyed the backstage segment but I felt a bit underwhelmed by Laylas weak, weak kicks. It looked so fake it’s not funny. But overall I can’t wait to see these two “go at it” at Money in the Bank, I seriously hope Layla retains but I can’t predict the future…
“my first title shot” so i guess we are supposed to forget Maryse vs Kelly Kelly for the Divas championship on Raw.
i agree with what you said about Kelly Melanie, i think she can act but she just hasn’t been given the opportunity to show it, and actually she was quite fierce tonight until Michelle knocked it out of her,
my one problem is that this promo is a week early, i want the match to happen now, but instead we have to wait another week, and we might not even get any build up next week
all the Divas got air time this week, not bad

I’m telling you, watching her in the past (since she’s improved in the ring) they weren’t using her. She was basically jobbing and used in a ton of tag matches at random or when the heel character needed a punching bag.
Now she’s showing what she can do. I know the PPV match will be awesome whether she wins or loses if they give them enough time.
i’ve always looked upon wwe and tna and pretty much wrestling as a whole as being one big variety show, so i’m really liking the rosa gimmick, i kinda find it funny. it’s also reminiscent of the kip james handyman stint he had towards the end of his time in tna. odd but hilarious.
the promo was nice, good to see kelly coming across as more emotional.
on the whole aj lee video package thing, if it was taped, it might be shown on the american broadcast which airs later tonight, as i remember with gail kim’s video packages, they were cut from international broadcasts (ie. australia). but that’s if one was taped to begin with… *shrug*
The Kelly/Laycool segment sucked!!!! Guess we can add acting onto the list of what Kelly can’t do, along with wrestling. Does she not know the meaning of selling?? She made Layla’s kicks look really weak cause she wasn’t selling them at all.

The segment was aiight, for what it was. Short, but it got the point across. Kelly and Layla looked great, I guess.
I actually don’t blame Kelly for this. I’m definetly not her fan, and I’d put Layla on my favourite divas at this point but those kicks looked so weak it was embarassing, what was more weird about it was that Kelly was kind of overselling them, it’s like the Jenna Morasca “slaps” hardly connecting to Sharmell, and yet she walked steps back like she was getting destroyed by a big bad monster. It really reminded me of that, those kicks were terrible, as much as I adore Layla I don’t put the blame on Kelly this time…
Lol, on that subject….remember the way Melina sold that super-weak slap from Linda McMahon?
I knew Kelly had that in her nice aggression shown and she looked HOT!!!!! tonight to.
LOL, and who could forget Maryse dying after a slap by Cherry?!

I actually took time to re-watch the segment and I was wrong. LOL at my cute fail. It was definetly Kelly who wasn’t selling those kicks, my bad yall!
There was nothing to sell. She was being held back by Michelle McCool which made it pretty hard to begin with, and those ‘kicks’ were barely stomps.
Let’s just all agree it was a mess. The segment overall wasn’t that bad tho…
This is the first time in a long time they announced a diva’s match before the actual week of the ppv. The only other time I remember is Mickie/Michelle at RR. They wasted that last week of build with Layla dressed up as Piggie James. Hopefully they do some last good build next week before the ppv.
I’m thinking the “new Smackdown Diva” thing was either a lie, or the fan who claimed it saw Rosa Mendes and didn’t recognize her, thinking she was new.
I know the Rosa thing doesn’t make much sense, but the person who sent spoilers to Diva Dirt said people in the crowd were calling Tiffany “Kelly Kelly” despite the fact that Kelly was with her.
I cant wait to see this KELLY VS LAYLA match. but wait if MICHELLE was to lose in a title match do they both lose their titles??
so im guessing next week theyll do a promo with rosa and then have her go one on one with tiffany???? or how will the build up the whole title match on sunday next week??? and i still think kelly is too weak to have her first title reign….i mean she got the fan power but thats about it…..i mean tiffany shows way more ability in the ring then kelly….which is why i think kelly shouldnt be getting the push….it should be tiffany…..

Whoa, Layla is gorgeous! And the segment was definitley weak, but it made its point. I’m hoping for Layla to retain as well. Actually, I think she will for sure. Because it makes sense. Kelly made it known it will be her first shot at the coveted Womens Title. Layla hasn’t really defended it yet. They’re doing the whole co-champs gimmick, and they need to look somewhat credible for NXT. So I’m gonna go with Layla here.
And btw, Rosa doing the whole..quote Trish “Workout..in the middle of the hallway..” was funny. SES staring was hilarious ..Punk nodding his head, lol.

This segment was okay…weak attak though. Kelly really needs more depth to her character. She needs to show more personality. She is a work in progress for sure, but Kelly has come along way. She kind of has Miss Elizabeth type qualities to her in ways.
It was good to see some fire from Kelly, even if it kind of backfired on her. I have never really been impressed with her–no ring psychology, no real personality, nothing, really–but I felt myself going ‘Yeah!’ a little bit tonight when she grabbed Layla, and that’s coming from a big ol’ Layla mark! Hopefully we’ll eventually see Rosa doing something other than aerobics, but at least she’s still getting some TV time.
Serena is impressing me more than any other woman in the E, right now. So much raw, human emotion and complexity in her interactions with Punk, tonight. This is the kind of stuff that makes must see tv for me :)
Im suppose the video package was re-schedule because of that guy albertio del rio who they showed 2 promo’s of tonight so maybe next week.
geez it wasn’t that bad, Layla couldn’t stomp on Kelly properly because Layla is wearing high heel, she would have killed Kelly if she had stomped on her properly with heels, and Kelly did sell it by screaming when Michelle didn’t have her hand on her mouth
Let’s all agree Layla’s kicks sucked.. & how can you sell kicks when Michelle is holding you forward, i liked how Kelly Kelly was made to look so tough choking Layla like that.. not a bad segment, can’t wait for their match at MITB
the kicks were horrible but the segmen was good. they should have had that promo next week and not this week

Layla is hilarious! Everytime she says “Smelly Kelly” my day gets better! I’m actually excited for the upcoming match between her and Kelly. Layla is on the top of her game and Kelly has been showing a lot more passion, maybe she just needed a real storyline to bring out that fire.

I think Kelly is actually pretty decent at promos and stuff and I actually want her to win the women’s championship from Layla. I think she deserves it by now. And Rosa is funny with the working out stuff. And Tiffany looked hot :D

That beatdown was convincing? Were you watching the same show? Kelly is a terrible actress. I was not convinced at all that she suffered anything.
Personally, I wasn’t convinced when Kelly choked her for that one second. I’m also not hating on her, just being realistic. I look forward to the match though, I’m expecting Kelly to bust out some new moves and surprise us. Something like Candice did in 08. Hopefully..Layla retains because it wouldn’t make sense to lose it considering the circumstances.
The choke looked good I don’t know what you are talking about it not being realistic. And I do think if Kelly wins her reign will be similar to Candice. And I can see her with the belt and I really want Kelly to win. And does anyone know how to upload a avatar?

i am liking rosa’s gimmick of getting into shape i think it is good that they are trying to use her i also like the kelly promo but she still didnt speak much but i think next week she has to come out angry and wants to punish laycool for how they attack and i am looking forward to the PPV because it will show how much they have learned and improved
