   Finally saw the match. Could Maryse be better in the ring… yes. Was she horrid this time, no. I think Maryse was selling some of the moves they way they looked, not the way they were supposed to look. After all, people have clotheslined Maryse before and it has looked fine. The Bellas’ clotheslines look like flying punches, so Maryse sold it more like a punch. The punch-kick-monkey flip-dropkick combination looked fine.

   I read earlier that people were comparing Maria and Maryse’s wrestling situations. I agree, Maryse is in danger of being a heel Maria. However, Maryse has not had the chance to routinely wrestle skilled veterans the way Maria had by the end of her 2nd year. Maria had wrestled Lita, Melina, Beth, and Victoria rather regularly. Maryse has wrestled Michelle for a about a year, then she had a feud with a not on top of her game Mickie while she herself was injured and then Maryse left to rehab her knee. She came back and the diva she was going to feud with, Melina got injured before the big one-on-ones could start. She wrestled Gail sporadically and then primarily wrestled Eve and the Bellas. You have a rookie wrestling mostly rookies and people being shocked she hasn’t improved. Alicia for instance actually got feuds with Gail and Melina (and no Alicia isn’t that much ahead of Maryse, she is roughly where Maryse was around the time of her first title win too).

   But look on the bright side, the match was pretty fun, no one really screwed the pooch, and the focus was on the Bella twins and Jillian’s storyline. Maryse did not steal all the thunder like some people claim she does. In fact, aside from her throwing a fit about the Bellas’ twin magic, the focus was totally on Jill. And Jill delivered. Although I’m tired of King acting shocked when Jillian easily throws the 115 lbs Bella over her shoulder for a samoan drop.

   I don’t think it is fair to call Maryse a “heel Maria”. Maria, bless her heart, wasn’t good at doing moves but she did them anyway. Maryse on the other hand, does her moves well but picks when she uses them. Just a little basic ring psychology that a lot of divas these days don’t use.
