At tonight’s SmackDown taping, Layla defends the Women’s Championship against Tiffany. In Diva Debate, we argue both sides of the coin as to who will win and then you get the casting vote in our poll! First, our arguments…
Why Layla will win…
After picking up a win over Kelly Kelly at the pay per view a couple of weeks ago, it doesn’t seem likely that Layla will be losing the belt on an episode of SmackDown to a girl that wasn’t even in the title picture until a week ago. While Tiffany has obviously shown great improvement, she hasn’t been the focal point of this storyline — that was Kelly Kelly — so why would she win? If anyone has a real shot at taking the belt from Layla, storyline wise, at this point, it’s Kelly. But she’ll likely just be standing at ringside.
Despite winning the belt in May, Layla’s title reign is only just beginning after getting a much needed confidence boost with her successful first title reign. It seems silly to take the strap off her now, before she can really get into her stride. Surely she deserves several title defenses before finally losing the belt? She’s still coming into her own as champion and the next few weeks will be formative. If she can beat Tiffany tonight, she’ll have beaten all the babyface competition on SmackDown and really established herself as Women’s Champ.
It looks to me that this match with Tiffany is but a pit-stop to something bigger. Perhaps a rematch with Kelly, perhaps the beginning of the end of Lay-Cool leading to a Layla vs Michelle feud, or perhaps the arrival of a new Diva giving Layla some fresh competition. Either way, she’s leaving with the belt tonight. – Melanie

Why Tiffany will win…
First off, she’s come a long way as a character. We’ve seen her evolve on camera from the Assistant General Manager of ECW to the GM; then after ECW was canceled, she was shifted to SmackDown where she finally got to step into the ring. Getting her trained in FCW before putting her in matches on tv was the right thing to do as she’s had very few mistakes, and she’s pretty solid in the ring. The WWE has invested time in her and as a result, she’s fairly over with the crowds. We know she’s smart as well as aggressive and not afraid to mix it up. She may be pretty, but Tiffany’s more than just a cute face. All this we know thanks to her slow but steady character progression.
Although Kelly’s been on TV longer, Tiffany’s been able to wrestle from the first time she had a match on SmackDown. Thanks to her training, she’s got a solid knowledge of the basics and knows how to move in the ring. She can pull out some moves we normally don’t see from the women (the atomic drop comes to mind). Her forearm strikes look real and her aggression against Layla and Michelle in the past is very convincing. Plus the bumps she’s taken in and out of the ring were pretty stiff, showing she’s not shy about getting roughed up. If she does win her match against Layla and become the new Women’s Champion, it would show the faith the WWE has in her to carry that esteemed title. It may just be the fact that there’s only two faces on SmackDown as to why Tiffany has a title shot, but I’d like to think that it’s because they see the potential in her. – Jennifer

Please Layla/Michelle feud! Please!
it’s a tough one to call..even though layla has had only the one title defence, it feels like she’s had the belt too long and not really done anything with it and with the tiffany title shot coming out of nowhere, i wouldn’t be surprised if she did win, although it’s way too soon for tiffany.
i think layla will retain and i kinda hope so. there’s so much more they can do with her as champion, specifically relating to the self-proclaimed co-champ side of things.. they could at least have a backstage discussion about it or something.. it just came out of nowhere! but i won’t be surprised if tiffany does pick up the win tonight.
layla wins – she goes back to feuding with kelly.. tiffany wins, she carries on feuding with lay-cool. they seriously need to call up aj already and start to use rosa and serena in matches.
It’s silly to think Tiffany would win, but for some odd reason….I’m actually not opposed to it :O
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT Let Tiffany win. Im really starting to like Layla as Champ(Even though I would love if Kelly champ). Let Layla win then have her and Kelly face again wih Kelly winning (just my opion and hope so dont jump all over me for it)
i feel laylas not ready to lose the womens champion yet and to tiffany with no build up..i see layla retaining and fueding with michelle. id like to see layla vs michelle at night of champions but with nxt wwe wont split them up just yet.
i really cant see rosa getting a shot at the title,

wwe REALLY needs to get divas on sd they could even bring gail over to smackdown or jillian, we all thought melina would return to SD but we were wrong

As much as I think Layla will win, I can see creative giving Tiffany the belt leading into a Laycool feud.
It will either be Tiffany or ROSA based on a ‘payoff’ for a teasing gimmick for being told to get in shape by WWE management.
With the randomness of this match I feel like Tiffany will win…I really don’t want her to though. I like her but she’s not ready for it and I feel like it’d be Eve’s title reign all over again. I feel like Layla’s reign has only just begun and I know Laycool have to break up eventually but I’m not ready for it to happen yet lol I like them too much. I think they’re gonna be around a little longer and when Rosa is outta the Laycool thing she’s doing then things will start going south for Laycool :(

Either way I want AJ Lee to debut. Whether attacking the new face champ, or ridding of LayCool.

As Melanie says I think this match is just a Stepping Stone for the Kelly fued because REALLY give Tiffany the Belt? What would she do ……. take on Rosa for Easy Title Defence and then against Layla and Michelle ….which by the way she has been losing to every single match she had with them…..And what do we know about Tiffany…ok she has really has potential but Fans really don’ know her .. when I see the Fan’s Posters I have never seen One of Tiffany….. and then what wait till Beth or Aj Lee are ready to Return to take the title away from her ……. I don’t have anything against tiffany really but givin her the title would be a Bad Idea….I know you don’t want WWE to give it to Kelly but she is really the Best Choice of as Right Know to give the title to.. And i don[t have anything against Tiffany..Jus my opinion
I see both of your points and it is a hard decision but I choose Layla mainly because Tiffany’s title shot was random
I wouldn’t mind if Skirt Tiffany won, but I do agree they shouldn’t pull the plug on Layla just yet. Regardless of who wins, they need to move the SD! diva along. Either start breaking Laycool up or add another opponent or something. Don’t just continue the Blondtourage vs Laycool… it’s old.
I do not care who wins. All I care is that the girls can pull of a good match. I prefer quality over quantity.

i think Layla will retain, although i thought they were going the have her complain about beating all the divas *cue new Diva AJ lee* but sadly they stole that idea………. for something else
Personally, I feel like we’ve gotten all the mileage we can get out of Layla as champion considering that she’ll have like zero competition after she defeats Tiffany. So, if she wins and we see AJ Lee debut then I’d be fine with it. If there’s not a new diva, then I see no reason to have her keep her title as we’ve already seen her face every possible challenger. Of course, that may just be me not being a fan of Layla’s in ring work.
I voted Layla because the WWE and myself aren’t normally on the same team when it comes to how to book the Divas. . .so I’m certain they’ll do the exact opposite of what I want them to do.
I think that Layla should win, to be in one of the best diva teams and share the belt with mccool and lose it on her second defense would really hurt Laycools credibility as being the best on smackdown.
I rember when it was Kelly vs. Layla for the title at MITB and almost everybody on this site was saying Layla would retain because Lay-Cool was Pro’s on NXT and they would have retape the opening and all this but now since its almost everybodies Golden Girl its different…….Ummmm……NO. Not trying to be mean just pointing out the obvious LETS GO LAYLA
Great debate Melanie & Jennifer!!! I agree with both sides, so it makes hard to choose between the two.. I would love to see Tiffany as champion a couple months from now, I think a feud should lead up to the title win. I would have to say that I want Layla to retain only because its her first championship ever and she has only defended it once.
On another note, like I said before, this debate was great =D Maybe your next one can be between who is rightful Women’s Champion, Layla or Michelle McCool??

KELLYKELLY i can understand how much u like kelly cause i used to be like that with torrie but sometimes u overshow it in a provocative way so everybody jump on u…express your love but try it in a normal way so people dont go against kelly herself..not only you ;)

I want Tiffany to win I don’t care if it was random title shot I just want Tiffany to win. Layla has had a good reign and I want to see my favorite diva win a title! I don’t mind random title shots it’s not like it was somebody who wasn’t even apart of the storyline got the title match. And I think Tiffany should win and have AJ Lee debut as a heel attacking her starting a rivalry with her. Tiffany FTW and Tiffany/AJ Lee feud!

Though I’d like to see Tiff get the title over Kelly, I don’t want either of them with the gold just yet. Layla hasn’t really had her chance to shine yet, simply because she’s in LayCool and she is sharing her reign with McCool. I’d like to see the breakup of LayCool and Layla gets to defend against McCool as a face before either of the Blondtourage gets the title on their waist. So yeah, I agree with Melanie.
