Former WWE Women’s Champ, Mickie James was interviewed by Fanhouse’s Brian Fritz earlier this week and spoke on the possibility of her going to TNA, admitting that she’d thought about it. Read below:
Well certainly I’ve entertained the thought and it’s one of those things … there has to be this beautiful marriage between the two. Obviously my music right now is in the forefront, and if there’s a way to be able to do it and still … you know, because TNA’s schedule is certainly less demanding, maybe what, 100 dates out of the year? Obviously it would give me a lot more time, but it would also give me that platform to be able to be there for my wrestling fans and hope that they would support me with my music.
Elsewhere, James is asked about her release for pursuing a music career versus Chris Jericho, who has a band while continuing to work for WWE. She says:
I think it’s a case-by-case feel. Obviously WWE knew everything I was doing, whether I was coming here to talk to publishing companies and look at different music and whatever, but Chris Jericho was already in a band before he came back to WWE. He already had “Fozzy” and they were already successful, and he was touring and releasing another album before he even came. So they come into the picture already knowing all that, fully aware of all that, and this was something I decided to do while I was still with the company. And perhaps it did feel that way, but in my mind as a businesswoman, that’s what I had my degree in, and just as a marketing genius [joking/laughing] … But it seemed like a no-brainer, like why wouldn’t you want to capitalize on this and really push it and tap into a whole other market you wouldn’t be able to get in touch with if it wasn’t for an outside interest like this. So I don’t really understand it, but Chris Jericho and I are totally different cases. Not only just because I’m a female and he’s a male, but he already had that coming into the picture.
The interview is very extensive and a great read. Click here to check it out.

wtf maria got the same treatment as mickie with mickie being a wrestler & getting the biggest pop of the divas is why im still pissed…i wish her goodluck & hopefully another wwe run…
Great interview! I said it before and I’ll say it again, she sure is a class act. Doesn’t bad mouth one single person in wwe or the company itself, unlike Maria. I hope wwe is really regreting ever letting Mickie go.
She really comes across well, and I’ll never understand why WWE never capitalized on that and pushed her as a spokesperson and ambassador for the company. Beautiful girl, and the most popular in the company, yet they give that role to the likes of Maria and Kelly Kelly. Nothing against the two of them, but Mickie would have been perfect in interviews and conferences.
I have mixed feelings about Mickie joining TNA. On one hand it would be great to see her on TV again. On the other hand, she could get the “Tara Treatment”: being over-pushed to the point where it damages her career and image. If I were her I would stick to the indie scene for a while and continue to gain the respect of the wrestling community.
I agree with Red Vixen , a part of me wants to see Mickie in TNA back on TV I would love to see her on TV wrestling again. A part of me dosent want her in TNA with they are going at now , the only thing we are going to see is Mickie vs TBP each nd every week teaming up with Angelina!
I think Mickie should just stick to her music carrer full time while wrestling in the indies taking on shimmer Women and possibly other former divas & Knockouts ( Ivory & Jazzy , Molly Holl)
Maybe Mickie isn’t bad mouthing the company because she wants to get back with them after her album is done? I doubt it and tbh, I think I’d prefer her in TNA than the WWE now. She had her amazing psycho run, got a superb number of titles and I don’t think TNA would give her a pig themed storyline.
So true she could get over used but on the other hand trish got over used in WWE and she came out to be the best.
I miss her! She sounds very smart and caring for her fans. I can’t wait to see her in TNA or back in WWE. Hopefully before Wrestlemania.
i’m pretty confident that mickie will wind up in tna eventually. she’s already got some form of friendship with dixie as well as her close pal tommy dreamer being there now. but as mentioned above, i would rather her take at least a good year or so out of the mainstream spotlight, re-find herself as a performer as she did get a bit stale towards the end of her time in wwe, and maybe then will be a better time for her to join tna.
WWE will not hire her because they released her. She may have slightly wanted to leave but they are the ones that made the decision for her to go. Plus you can’t expect them to go and drop the “Piggy James” storyline on her return because it would be so unrealistic if they just made it seem like Michelle and Layla forgot.
I mean they didn’t show the history about how Rosa was obsessed with Beth Phoenix, and acted as if they didn’t know each other. That seemed stupid.
I would like to see her in TNA. She was there before. If they explained she was there near the beginning the chances are she wont get the Tara-Treatment.
I know she would just be facing TBP, but working with Madison Rayne is very beneficial as she is a former Shimmer Tag Team Champion.
However I would really like to see her in Shimmer for a few volumes first because she should be facing:
MsChif
Cheerleader Melissa
Madison Eagles
Portia Perez
Allison Danger (yay)
Daizee Haze (yay)
Misaki Ohada (yay)

What gave you the idea that Mickie wanted to leave?? I’ve read many of her interviews since being fired and she has said that she was completely crushed when they fired her. Does that sound like she wanted to leave?? She also said that she wanted to stay for another five years.
As for her being rehired, it could happen. They have fired wrestlers then rehired them (chris masters, matt hardy, Gail Kim, etc)
So you are trying to say that she may have not wanted to peruse her music career. Not even the slightest.
Of course she would have been crushed after being thrown to the side, anyone would be.
You being a Mickie James fan may not be an Alexis Laree fan therefore may not understand that she wanted to be a singer as much as she did a wrestler.
Elle- I never said that. You were the one who said she wanted to leave which isn’t even true. What would make you think I’m not an Alexis Laree fan?? Of course I am.
I think it would be a great for her to do. I’m personally a Mickie fan and would love her to go to TNA and continue with her wrestling career. Plus like stated TNA’s schedule is alot less demanding and she’d still have a lot more time to focus on her music career. It’s a perfect mix in my opinion.
I can totally see her in TNA in da next weeks 1: her 90-day noncompete has expired.
2:TNA always hire big names.
3:Winning the ko champion, but before that vince
will make Gail kim win the divas champ so gail
could be the first to win KO, WOMENS,and
DIVAS champion insted of Mickie.
It was a great interview; Mickie is one of the best female wrestlers to ever grace a ring. I think Mickie has shown real class in commenting about release from the WWE. Mickie says how she’s feels about her release without trashing anyone unlike Maria. Mickie has proven that she truly cares about wrestling and has also proven that she can wrestle while pursuing her music career at the same time. That’s separate Mickie from release Divas like Maria (I’m talking about released Diva who truly didn’t can about wrestling. Not release Divas like Katie Lea who do care.)
I’m spilt on whether I want Mickie to go to TNA. Yes, Mickie would have time wrestle on TV & PPV plus some house shows while working on her music career at the same time. Mickie would be most part the center piece of the Knockouts division. I’m not putting down the other Knockouts because they are some great female wrestlers but they don’t the fan base like Mickie does. I’m sure if Mickie did go to TNA, Mickie would be the Knockout Champion with in two months.
Now on the flip side, I would love for Mickie to go back to the WWE. I’m pretty sure that there are some in WWE management who regret that they had release Mickie. I also wanted to see Mickie break Trish’s record for the most WWE Women’s title reigns. If anybody should break Trish’s record; it should Mickie. Plus Mickie could have some great matches with Melina, Michelle McCool & Tiffany who I could see being able to put on a good match with Mickie.
Main thing is Mickie is doing what makes her happy. If you are a true Mickie James fan; you should be happy that Mickie is happy in what she is doing right now. Mickie says that main focus is her music and as Mickie James fan, I support 100 %. Mickie’s first album is great, I’m not a big county music fan but the album is awesome. Very few albums that I have purchase over the years where I actually like every song on the album but I love every song on Mickie’s album.
Thanks Melanie for the write up. You always do a great job keeping us fans aware what’s going on in women’s wrestling.
not a direct answer, but i can live with the ‘never say never’ type answer she gave
Well i want her 2 wrestle again i mean who dosent love mickie james and if she joins tna she would be facing tbp ad i would like her 2 feud with angelina and and serita and daffeny and after that theres not much for her 2 do and after that i c her re joining wwe have her feud with michelle some over over her firinf in a storyline and she could feud with aj lee and serena and i would like 2 c her feud with natalya and maby another feud with melina and beth
I hope she doesn’t go to TNA. Its not the best place to be at the moment. I’d rather support her indy work by buying the DVDs she’s on & her music career.
I’d love for Mickie to go back to TNA if they want to concentrate on wrestling. There’s a market for good women’s wrestling, and they used to take advantage of it. So yeah, bring her in if I’m going to see Mickie vs. Hamada, or Sarita, or even helping an improving Madison. Hell a good physical Mickie vs. Tara match for old time sakes would be nice. But if they sign her just to say “yoo hoo, we have Mickie James” and don’t give us quality matches, then I don’t care.
if mickie james goes to tna doesnt she have to change her theme song? cuz i love it! =(
