It’s SummerSlam Sunday! Tonight, Alicia Fox faces Melina for the Divas Title, but who will come out victorious? In Diva Debate, we argue both sides of the coin as to who will win and then you get the casting vote in our poll! First, our arguments…
Why Alicia Fox will win…
As the reigning Divas Champion, Alicia Fox has injected some much needed life into that Divas belt. Since 2010 began, it’s been a rocky road for the title — from vacation to a short, forgettable Maryse reign to a risky Eve title run. Alicia, however, it seems has been on the cusp of winning the belt several times before and could never quite get the job done. In June, Foxy finally won the belt and for the first time in a while, it seemed like there was something new, fresh and exciting going on in the Raw Divas division. As champion, Alicia has more than held her own in my opinion — look no further than her match with Eve at last month’s Money in the Bank pay per view. Alicia has a lot of momentum behind her right now as a top heel champion, that it seems silly to have her lose now.
Furthermore, let’s not forget that Melina has only been back two weeks. As accelerated pushes go, even the biggest Melina supporter would probably feel that is too soon. Alicia was defeated by Melina on Raw last week, so why not have Alicia steal the victory tonight at SummerSlam and keep this feud going into next month’s Night of Champions pay per view? A win over the veteran Melina tonight would further cement Alicia’s role as top heel and add more legitimacy to her title reign. If Alicia can thwart Melina’s comeback train tonight, it’d be a nice swerve for the fans too — who are perhaps thinking Melina will be given the belt right away.

Why Melina will win…
When Melina was injured last year, she was forced to forfeit her Divas Championship. She never lost it through a pinfall. Now that she has returned, through her victory over Alicia Fox this week on Raw, she’s been given a championship match at SummerSlam. It’s obvious she is on track to become a two-time Divas Champion. For the period of time between her return to Raw and her injury last year, she was WWE’s “go-to girl” when it came to representing their women’s division on it’s flagship show. With Mickie James traded to SmackDown, as well as Beth Phoenix, they didn’t trust anyone else to hold the Divas Title — not Alicia, Gail Kim, Maryse, Kelly Kelly, nor our beloved Jillian (who got a five second title reign). No, they chose to have Melina make her triumphant return to Raw and become Divas Champion for the first time. That says a lot. It shows the confidence they have in the A-List Diva, a confidence that is all too apparent with her being vaulted over other potential contenders.
That isn’t to say that management hasn’t had confidence in Alicia. Far from it. She’s had a very solid 3 month run as champion, ever since her win at the Fatal 4-Way pay per view. However, after a quick look at some SummerSlam statistics, whenever there’s been a women’s match (no matter how silly or stupid — Diva Dodgeball? Fail.), the faces have won more than the heels have. That doesn’t bode well for Alicia, but those are excellent odds for Melina. Usually in the bigger PPV events, the face is more likely to come out the victor, which gives even greater odds for Melina.
And let’s face it. After her big win on Monday, the momentum is in Melina’s favor. The fans are happy to see her back, your average fan wants to see her win, so why wouldn’t the WWE capitalize on that? They aren’t known for their patience in cultivating storylines, especially feuds/storylines involving the women. Her popularity, her momentum and the moment itself (a big PPV) all point to the fact that our Paparazzi Princess will become a two-time Diva’s Champion this Sunday. – Jennifer

I think that it’s WAY too soon to be having this match. They should have let real annimosity build between Foxy and Melina to make this feud seem more credible. Anway, I think Foxy will retain. Melina has just returned, and to just give her the title would be a slap in Alicias face. Alicia seems to have grown alot as a character, and having her steel a victory tonight could solidify her heel character further.
i can see them giving the win to melina, but hopefully alicia retains. i also hope that alicia gets a nice, clean win. they keep calling her dominant, but she isn’t really, she’s just been lucky/sneaky with her wins. i want to see her live up to that dominant tag.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Melina win the title. I feel the title being jumped from diva to diva was a way to keep intrest in the Divas Title untl Melina made her return. I feel that Alicia should lose the title simple because she has been so sloppy ever since she won the title. I feel the tile has been passed around just for Melina to regain the title.

the one comment i am making is how bored i am going to be with Melina winning the title again…id beg for them to let Alicia beat Melina and have Melina move on to finish her feud with Maryse…and have Alicia feud with Jillian or Gail
but unfortunatly over the next 1 day – 6 weeks i will have to deal with seeing Melina winning another title..and then i have to witness another lackluster face title reign
melina needs to lose to put alicia over that is what wwe needs to do have alicia either cheat to win or get dq’ed with a title/chair shot….
melina winning with no pay off shes been back 2 weeks like wtf….they may give it to her as a last title run since shes so injury prone now…
Its way to soon for Melina to win the title, she’s only back and even though she’s made an impact she just shouldn’t hold the title so soon. Alicia has been a great champion and I think she deserves a long reign with it. I’d prefer to see someone else in the title picture for once like Gail Kim, but since they’re pushing Melina at least wait another month or two before giving her the belt.
I’d like to see Alicia retain and have this feud built up properly.
Even though I’m praying Alicia retains I see Melina getting it back right away. It’s sad because Alicia has become a very dominate heel in the division. Best Divas Champion reign so far this year in my honest opinion. Plus with Melina only being back 2 weeks it would look bad to give her the title back asap. It would basically make Alicia look less credible. With Alicia being the only heel on RAW that managment trusts to go at it in the ring they should make Melina chase for it. Jillian will never get the title back. As much as I’d love her too it won’t happen. And Maryse well we all know she can’t put on a good match ever since coming back from injury. Plus it’s much more entertaining to see a face chase for the title instead of a heel. Sadly I see Melina regaining the title for some reason.
@Jennifer – Alicia hasn’t even been champion for 2 months yet and history shows that heels usually win at events like SS and WM when the belt in on the line. :P
But this is the first singles title match at SS since 1999, where Ivory retained. But at Summerslam 07 and SS 08 Beth, who was a heel, won both years in her respective matches.
Too soon into the feud for a title change. Alicia should retain it a couple of times, otherwise she’ll just look weak.

2010 – Alicia Fox vs Melina
i think they will keep fued on till night of champions but then again who is going to be in the smackdown women title match i mean they dont have long so if there bringing some1 new in then they should do it soon as they need time to improve who ever is going to smackdown aj lee……..
i think alicia will DQ because if alicia gets a clean win then thats just dull and if alicia wins by dq then she can get clean win at night of champions or jillian may get involved as she has been getting involved for the past few weeks (fingers crossed) because ive red somewhere that they are trying to get melina or maryse to be divas champion so they can fued in mixed tag matches with john and ted so that makes me think that melina may win 2nite
i don’t think it’s right how melina just came back and she gets a title shot, just like that. i have a feeling that melina is going to win and she is going to be holding onto that title for a while. i love melina, but this is too soon for a title shot. she’s only been back for 2 weeks. i love alicia fox too, and she should be the champion for a couple of more months.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Melina is going to take this one which is absolutely undeserve and IMO would positively be pestilential to the division as a whole. It’s just way to early for this match and for a title change. It’s not gonna do her nor Alicia any good. For the sake of both and the entire division I hope that I’m wrong.
They should give the win to Alicia. A clean win and not what others have suggested. Melina got the best of Alicia twice now since her return. There’s no need to make Alicia look more like a chump and Melina losing cleanly can be attributed to her previous injury so it won’t hurt her as much. She can always get the number 1 contender spot again and hopefully this time they’ll do it right.
I’m calling it right now, laugh if you want to:
Eve’s going to do a run-in, attack BOTH divas and cause a double DQ.
Reasons:
1. WWE officials are still high on Eve, but unless they insert her into a title feud, they’re not going to be able to use her on Raw.
2. Eve’s shown fire recently and, though it went unnoticed by most commentators, showed signs of a potential heel turn this Monday. Breaking up the Bella twins’ pin, neckbreaker to Nikki, getting in Brie’s face when she stole a blind tag?
3. Alicia gets to retain without a clean win over Melina. Keeps both women looking strong, especially since both can claim they would’ve won the match.
4. Gives both A-Fox and Melina a legitimate excuse to dislike Eve, and cements her tweener status.
5. Leads to an interesting three-way feud come Night of Champions, which is needed since it has a 6 week build-up.
The only strong win Alicia has had since becoming champion was the rematch on PPV against Eve….her title win was a weak one as Eve did the work then Alicia stole the pin, the first rematch Alicia faked an injury and stole the win, her win over Brie Bella was attributed to the outside distractions of Nikki and Jillian….and now shes been taken out twice by Melina…Alicia has looked NOTHING like a credible champion!
As for the match tonight…i see Alicia BARELY escaping with the championship, to build on the feud and then work toward a triple threat or even a fatal 4 way at Night of Champions!
You know who won’t win? The Fans becuae this match is going to be AWFUL. It sucked on Monday Alica is a dangeroulys poor worker and noone can get a good match out of her. If the WWE is smart Menlina wins and than Alica gets fired but WWE isn’t smart

two weeks ago makes it obvious that Alicia will retain.
Dim did you see Monday where she nearly dropped Melina on her head and broke her neck? And never hits that ax kick correctly and what good matches has she had everything she does is just so awful.

@Eye did u kno that it takes 2 ppl to do a tilt a whirl backbreaker and that it takes both performers to do melinas last call finisher and as i recall alicia has hit her axe kick perfectly numerous of times so obviously ur not payin attention much and if wwe is high on alicia its obviously because she has talent and she belongs inside of a ring if so many other divas and superstars praised her in ring talents in the past

She has had alof of great matches with Gail Kim and brang the good out of Eve at MITB. Remember her FCW crown match with Angela (Savannah). Better than most of the matches at the time (and even now).
And the Scissors Kick is a hard move to do especially with the crazy height she gets. It always looks very devasting which is the point of a finisher.
And everyone makes mistakes. Alicias just couldnt hold Melina. Its a basic mistake. And if you noticed the match Alicia shofted her hips to avoid the fall. So she kinda saved Melina.
@madslam yes i agree alicia has had countless of great matches with gail and some good ones with melina previously shes been involved in a awesome fatal 4way with beth kelly and gail and it made a raw dvd it was so good and regardless her axe kik stilll looks devastating whether it connected with where its supposed to or not so yea people r just haters cause alicia is awesome to me and i see her mistakes and nobodys perfect and melina isnt either especially if u look at her matches with jillian
Melina is my favourite diva but I think Alicia should hold the title a little longer.
@Dim3y18 if you noticed when you look back, any botches Melina done with Jillian where all Jillians fault, she fell to fast.. etc.

I would love to see Melina win, but it’s too early. Alicia will retain by cheating, faking an injury or DQ. Can’t wait to see it though.
Alicia is by far the worst womens/divas champion EVER! Boring and no skills whatsover. Any other Diva is more deserving. I hope Melina wins and I don’t see Alicia on TV again.
