A-List Diva, Melina became Divas Champion just moments ago at SummerSlam, defeating Alicia Fox in her hometown of Los Angeles, California.
However, Melina’s celebration was cut short by SmackDown Divas, Lay-Cool who attacked the new Divas Champ, leaving her unconscious after Michelle hit her with a sick running knee into the announce table.
EDIT: As a result of Melina’s title win, the term ‘Melina’ began trending worldwide on Twitter. Double congrats to Melina!

I actually liked Alicia as champ and was hoping that she would hold the title till Night of Champions and feud with Melina for awhile. I just find it absolutely absurd that whenever a Diva returns from injury, she immediately gets her title back without credibility (Maryse, for example). For that reason, they might as well have let Melina be the next Trish Stratus by holding her title throughout the injury (which is why Trish had the 448 day reign in ’04-’05).
Another thing, am I the only one who finds it VERY depressing that Michelle McCool and Maryse are the only champions with a reign lasting for more than 100 days? Either WWE writers are looking at TNA for “inspiration” or want to change the championship name to the “WWE Divas Hardcore Championship” since it changed hands as much as the Hardcaore title.
“Finally, when it comes to Lay-Cool you could blame Tiffany for this. Instead of there being a SD! Divas tag match we got the Melina beat down. If Michelle does go after Melina’s title and wins it for Lay-Cool to both be champions I’m boycotting the WWE. Instead Lay-Cool should be breaking up and feuding for the Women’s title with Lalya winning.”

It’s unsolitary in my opinion. Michelle vs Melina at NOC would be an amazing match just like last year but i think if WWE do this then there rushing things like unification for the divas belt and its only been born for 2 years so i dont think its time and i dont want neither melina or michelle as champion its just not right. Layla deserves to be singles champion and alicia deserved a better reign then michelle in my opinion but i have to say alicia’s title reign is very unforgettable because she won the first ever 4 way match for the divas belt and she won it by a fluke, defeated eve by fake injury, defeated eve again at money in the bank, and then the whole thing got ruined to hear melina win it again her reign would of been so much better if alicia defeated her. Thanks alot melina. Also im tired of lay-cool i never liked them as a tag team there funny but extremely boring, michelle is so ANNOYING in so many ways awesome wrestler and beautiful person but her WWE character is so abnotious. Dont WWE have enough on smackdown we dont need them on RAW and there so un original. Another michelle and melina feud would be YAWN. This is what i would have rather wanted to see….
Alicia retains leaving melina alone in the ring with lay-cool laughing at her then melina can feud with michelle and layla and get traded to smackdown in a mini diva trade and then see at NOC melina vs michelle/layla, Alicia vs Natalya or Gail i mean literally it would make my heart beat<333.
Of course Melina is a better wrestler than Fox. I don’t think anyone is disputing that. Some people just don’t like the fact that Melina came back after 2 weeks and is champ yet again. I would have liked to see a build up between the 2 or Gail get a shot. That is my opinion on the situation
They’ll probably throw K2 in the feud since Tiffany will be gone for a while. At NOC I expect to see maybe Melina and Kelly vs. LayCool if LayCool wins, Layla retains the WWE Women’s Championship while McCool becomes a 2-time Divas Champion but if Melina & Kelly win, Melina retains her Divas Championship and Kelly becomes the new WWE Women’s Champion
Don’t blame Melina for how the Diva’s division gets booked, she’s not a writer. She just goes out there and does what they tell her.

i wonder if this match (not just the subsequent beatdown) was influenced by Tiffany being on the verge of getting fired? With Beth still months away from return, WWE couldn’t have SD! treading water with just Kelly vs. Laycool. So, with a quick squash match, Melina becomes champ and Laycool gets to feud with a strong face for the time being.
If SD! wasn’t so obviously suffering, I think Alicia would have stayed champ.
I’ll think it be better if Melina didn’t win, and for a few weeks her and Alicia can feud and then she’ll win the title back, but this is too soon and very disappointing. And the laycool, is also boring now.

Yeah but no one really wants melina as champion she isnt ready, she’s a belt hogger, and alicia deserves it not melina. Plus she’s going to end up losing it to maryse which is going to be AWFUL, if alicia won then natalya and gail had a chance, trust me alicia deserves it 95% and melina 5%.
Dear WWE, please do us all a favor and deactivate the Divas division. It was obvious since day 1 that you don’t know how to run it and to this day you still don’t. And you probably don’t care at all… (Note: I am exaggerating here)
Unifying the titles already?! So in other words, either the Women’s Championship gets deactivated for the 3rd time or the Divas Championship gets deactivated after only 2 years… Go figure since they fired the majority of the hard working ladies. But, instead of deactivating one of the titles, why don’t they temporarily make it into an Undisputed Championship? Just like how they did with the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships. It would be a major accomplishment for any Diva. Although, I can’t help but think that Lay-Cool or Chris Jericho (he was THE first Undisputed champ after all…) ruining the lucky Diva’s moment…

I like Alicia but in my opinion her reign was just as boring as Maryse and Eve’s, I’m just glad that a Pro has the title again, but Melina needs to step her game up BIG TIME.
Who’s blaming Melina? I don’t like I blamed Melina for anything. I said I think it was too soon for her to be champ and I stand by that. I know that was WWE booking and not Melina.

When kelly, rosa, nikki, brie and layla leave the company and get replaced by serena, AJ and naomi then the division will grow on me.
Also putting michelle, maryse, beth and melina on RAW with the womens title will do good.
With the divas belt on smackdown with alicia, gail, natalya and eve wrestling for it too. I dont want to see michelle or melina as champion again well maybe im overreacting but right now neither michelle or melina deserve it yes i want michelle to get a 2nd reign as divas champion in the near future and melina another reign as womens champion too but now layla and alicia should be champions.

Your opinion is your opinion but alicia’s reign was actually 3rd best right behind michelle and maryse’s in the honest words. Melina, maryse’s 2nd, eve’s, mickie’s and jillian’s were pretty bad.
LaceyFan can Jillian’s title win even be considered a championship reign lol. I wasn’t feeling how they screwed jillian at all.
Also i think the only pro’s people want as champion are beth and gail. Melina again will have a boring reign since there is only jillian and maryse she can “really” lost it to.
Although i didn’t watch the match, i can tell that it was a complete disaster. I don’t think the WWE puts any thought to the womens’ division anymore. Melina should become heel as soon as possible. I mean, i prefer Eve as a face champion over Melina.
Truthfully, I don’t understand why people dislike Eve so much.. She’s a great wrestler in my opinion and should be champion once again.

Lol. I was just telling Kaledrina that maybe this is WWE’s unorthodox way of making Michelle a better heel–by making people choke on her so much that they would actually start booing her for real. I wonder how Michelle would feel about that?
in the divas title’s history there wasnt really any reigns that seem lik they were worth anything.
Also, lay-cool has to break up NOW. Yeah.. their gimmick was funny in the beginning now its become stale.. I think that if things don’t change soon, WWE is going to lose a fan.

@LaceyVonErichFan I agree about Alicia not having the worst reign, I guess I’m not as upset because I saw this coming from a mile away. Raw seems to only push Main eventers and fan favorites so newbies like Eve and Alicia are just stepping stools imo. SD puts more spotlight on new talent, so maybe she will return there in the draft. I just hope Melina doesn’t have a botched filled reign, because I enjoyed her work with Beth.
I hoped that Alicia would retain. As much as I like Melina, I do feel that it was rushed (literally). They could have had confrontations to build up the actual title match. Oh well. Poor A. Fox.
I think i’m one of the only ones who was happy with this result. I can’t comment on the match really as my stream was playing up during this match (perfect for the rest of the night, go figure) but i really don’t like Alicia fox so i’m glad the title is off her and i love Laycool so them getting some promo time was great. Anyone ticked off about this blame tiffany, her suspension has caused the sudden change in storyline.
I think both Eve and Alicia got the short end of the stick in this tbh. They’re talented and both have so much potential. I feel they basically just built Alicia up for Melina to take the title off her. I’m getting kinda sick of them pushing a diva for 1 or 2 months (like Eve and Alicia ) just to have them drop the title so random to someone. Its a joke. Which is why this title has no credibility to it.

I’m not understanding why so many of you are so pissed off. It was obvious to me as soon as Alicia won the title it was so there would be a heel champ when Melina came back so she could win. That’s most likely why they didn’t just have Maryse win it at Fatal Four Way because they wouldn’t have wanted to take the title off of her so soon. I agree it’s way too soon for Melina to have even had a title shot and even win the title but WWE thinks her, Michelle, or Maryse NEED to be champion if one of the others aren’t.
I think we should just be happy we’re seeing something new here. Michelle and Melina had awesome matches last year and great chemistry together. At least we’re not stuck with seeing Smackdown struggle to do something with Kelly, Rosa, and Laycool like they were doing when Tiffany was still on tv.

Alicia has more much potential then melina. Melina has had her spotlight enough even when trish and lita were still there melina still got the spotlight come on WWE dont put her on as overrated.
I like the whole idea of a winner take all match at NOC, but lets hope tiffany’s suspension doesnt last too long and let her and melina vs layla and michelle at NOC with melina and tiffany winning i dont want to see kelly as womens champion it would ruin the history it has had.

Congradulations to Melina. I am not that thrilled that Alicia Fox won, but I am not going to sit here and complain about Melina being the champion. I love both Alicia and Melina. The WWE is totally at fault for how the diva division is. And obviously they made a mistake with tonight, but nothing we can do about it. It is what it is. That is all I am going to say. I am not going to get heated or upset and say negative things about Melina or Alicia.

I like Melina, but she shouldn’t have won. I was hoping for a Eve va Melina vs Alicia match. Now if that happened I could see Melina winning the title and a crazy demented heel turn for Eve with her attacking both Alicia and Melina, then stealing the belt and running off backstage yelling “It’s my belt!”. Then everytime she would come out, she’d tease Melina with the belt and hide it in places Melina couldn’t find until the next PPV. That ends with Eve as a champion and crazy heel reign.

Who are these people you speak of? Because the ones that matter, the paying audience, certainly don’t care about Alicia. She’s went over the entire Raw womens division in the past two months and she still came out to no reaction at all. At least the crowd kind of reacted to Melina’s entrance and her screaming at the end, because they were dead for the rest of that match.

It just seems very double standards on Melina’s part. Though i guess in her defense i doubt she got a choice of declining the belt when wwe told her she was going to get it.
It was just the fake crying that got me annoyed. I know wwe is acting, but i didnt think she should have over sold it seeing as she was mouthing off about people getting titles with no fight and thats exactly what shes done. She made it seem like its been some hard battle which she finally won.
i still like her as a wrestler though, and i’m sure i’ll be over this result by tomorrow night :p

The differences between Eve and Alicia pushes are Eve’s actually helped her get over with the fans. Its sad when the biggiest reaction Alicia has gotten from the crowed is “Fox can’t wrestle” chant lol.

What? The crowds reaction is pointless why is everyone so into reactions does it really matter?? i dont think so. As you can see half of the diva fans are disappointed. I dont know why everyone is so put into the reactions, do you have your ears paste to the TV, no so why bother caring on what the crowd are reacting to they never react to diva’s unless the golden era. If you really were to hear the reactions you see people responding boo to alicia which is still a reaction. Also that had nothing to do with what i said which was alicia deserves the title not melina.
