Following word breaking last night, more details have emerged regarding Serena‘s shocking release from WWE.
According to PWTorch‘s James Caldwell, Serena was let go for ‘not living out’ her Straight Edge gimmick, offering few other details. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio state that she had ‘more than one rough night’.
While details at this time from both sources are sketchy, it’s evident that Serena’s release was a disciplinary measure. Conjecture on my part, but it seems management was unhappy with Serena enjoying nights out and/or drinking in public.
Many, including the Observer, have likened the situation to Mickie James’ supposed ‘excessive partying’ during the European tour in April, which was said to be the last straw before she was released.
WWE has yet to acknowledge Serena’s release, but will likely make an officials statement following this Friday’s SmackDown which was taped last week and includes Serena in her final on-screen appearance.

i could understand if she was going out far too often, drinking far too much and being generally unruly (especially if she was warned about it) but not pretending to live a straight edged lifestyle? bullshit excuse. it makes me wonder what the boogeyman used to get up to in his own personal time.
But if you get so drunk that you end up getting arrested for attacking your husband, that’s Okay, as long as he’s on Vince’s Bearskin rug.
The reasoning behind her release is pathetic. Let’s face it, the reason she has been released is because of the sleezed up officials in WWE decided they no longer wanted an “ugly”, bald girl around, not because she had a few nights out on the drink. Like so what she had a life, I don’t think it said she had to be a method actor in her contract.
I feel really sorry for Serena. She did everything right, and just because she wasn’t blonde, she’s been released. Yet the chauvenistic morons who are head honchos when it comes to hiring allow Kelly to go unpunished when there is a picture of her weeing in a sink floating around and they allow Tiffany to just get off with a suspension when she is rumoured to have atatcked her husband. I’m not saying I dislike Tiff and Kelly as I don’t, but it’s just not fair.
So basically, if your a male employee, you get away with 99.9% of stuff. If your a blonde, cookie cutter woman, you get away with 50% of stuff, because there’s always more of the same out there. If your a woman without WWE’s look that managed to get signed, you get away with nothing.

Rey Mysterio, who is meant to a role model to kids, fails a drug test and is basically given a paid vacation. But Serena is fired for having a night life???? This is bullshit.

That seems over obsessive for WWE to fire a 23 year old woman for doing what most people in their twenties do. And it’s not like it ever interferred with her job and I never even heard of her being a party girl until now so I don’t see how that exactly WWE officials could be so pissed. Also, wasn’t Tiffany partying at the playboy mansion before she was arrested? That’s a double standard if I ever saw one.
@theregoeskitty Proof? I’ve asked Colt Cabana if Punk was really straight edge at a Ring of Honor show some time ago and gave a definitive, yes. That’s in line with what people who know him all have said. Plus, I’ve seen that video and he’s not drinking.
WWE really seem to be making effed (inputproperwordhere) up decisions surrounding their Divas (the male roster to a smaller extent). Did she get drunk and pee on someone? Was that someone Johnny Ace? I mean, Jeez Louise, if they told her, don’t drink and she continued to do it, suspend her. They suspended Tiffany and she allegedly assaulted her husband and got arrested. Which one is worst press for your company? Man beater or drunkard? You would think with the SmackDown! Diva roster continually shrinking they would NOT want to lose another one. But that’s WWE for you. After the firings of Maria, Katie Lea, Mickie, and now Serena, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gail or Jillian stared at a bucket the wrong way and were then fired.

I shed light on that because WWE’s perception is that if the women aren’t all gorgeous, the fans won’t like them or enjoy their work, when infact, it’s the opposite. Alot of people actually prefered Serena bald than with hair.
@Kaledrina: Tbh, your right. Her acting in the segment after she’s relapsed her S.E Pledge was bad and her match last week was underwhelming. This release is tbh, the best thing for Serena if you ask me and a blessing in disguise. She can finally get rid of any ring rust she had and be appreciated by companies like Shimmer, etc.

Why does The E seem to look for any excuse to get rid of Divas? Maria gets axed for having a career outside of the company, Mickie gets future endevoured for being late for the bus, Tiffany is skating on thin ice for a domestic dispute, Savanah is shown the door for messing up some lines…..
I personally think this is another knee jerk reaction by WWE because of Linda McMahon’s political run, i highly doubt they’d be this critcal of Serena’s actions if this weren’t the case, Maybe i’m wrong in thinking this way. It just seems that as long as Linda’s running for office, we can expect more releases or suspensions for minor infractions, Once the heat with Danielson died down he was brought back. @RHV you have remember Mysterio after failing his drug test was stripped of his title, booked to lose against JoMo, and was taken off tv for about a month for his first violation and that took place well before Linda decide to enter the political arena. WWE is afraid of any miscue no matter how small being used to derail Linda’s bid for office, but this isn’t anything new, anytime the WWE is being watched closely they tend to get trigger happy with suspensions and firings.
Her partying is such a bullshit excuse, I see WWE doesn’t have a problem with Dolph Ziggler talking to a pornstar on Twitter asking her if she likes dick hard or soft, hell he even gave a link to his favorite porn site.
@Andre- Yes, Mysterio was stripped of the title, but remember, he recieved a push immediatly after his return. My point is, Serena did what most women her age do: go out and have fun. You cant fire someone because they have a life outside of thier gimmick. Even kids can tell the difference between the character on TV and the person behind that character.
@RedHotVixen Your post had me laughing at WWE’s terrible reasons behind releasing talent, but if you look at it, Mickie and Maria both had roles outside of WWE which The ‘E didn’t like and then they’re roles were filled by two blondes in Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly respectively. Savannah was replaced with a blonde too, so the Cookie Cutter policy shines through again. At this rate, I wouldn’t be suprised if WWE released Gail for having a personality in public.
If true wwe has artfully warned Serena many times through storyline. That seems to happen alot to Indy wrestlers they are so used to being on the Indy scene and doing whatever they want they forget wwe is all buisness and politics. Even so if the statement of her release is fact it’s a horrible blow to the division. Very horrible news indeed. Thanks for my birthday gift wwe lol.
Punk’s strait edge life is what he trully follows. But he is not like his character and shoves it in people’s face. He just uses the gimmick as a way to either to make him a face or a heel.
To be honest, I am going to take this with a pinch of salt until WWE announces it. Also I really don’t think WWE gives a care if they announce the release before the show because that is what happaned to Mickie, the day prior to her last match she was released.
I know we all have a dislike or in some case hatred for the way WWE handles their talent Divas and Superstars alike, but what if for once the E isn’t the bad guy here, What if maybe Serena’s release was her own fault? I’m just saying, because no one wants to even consider that being the case, Same goes for Tiffany i’m a fan of pretty much all the Divas, but if they step out of line or mess up in a major way, does this mean we should excuse their wrong doing just because they’re Divas and not Superstars? If Tiffany did in fact assault her husband, should she be defended and treated like a saint or victim? It would look very bad for any employer to ignore a case of domestic violence, especially one with such a public face and larger than life persona as the WWE. Until all the facts come out on both situations i’m reserving my feelings, but feel that things must be looked at from all angles before trashing either the WWE or the performers who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances
@RHV i remember that, but you also have to keep in mind whether we agree with it or not, until Linda’s political aspirations play out, more incidents like this will crop up, as i stated earlier, WWE has a history of suspending and firing workers when they’re under intense media and public scrutiny. Everything that happened with Rey not that i’m condemning or condoning his violation was done during a time when there wasn’t heat on the company, plus he’s a huge face, brings in a lot of revenue due to a large Latino fan base, therefore the E was lenient with him, had his violation taken place now, i’m not sure even Rey’s star power would save his job

@Andre-I would totally agree with you…if things were equal between the men and women of that company. I hate to sound like a stuck record, but the men can basically get away with murder while the women seem to find themselves in trouble no matter how big or small the offence.
I very much doubt she was released for ‘not living out the straight edge lifestyle’. If there’s any truth to this then chances are it was more than just a few regular nights out.

Releasing Serena for not being Straight Edge in Real Life is the same as if they decided to release Undertaker because he isn’t really dead. Okay, maybe she should be more careful in not being caught, but that is stupid, especially since her character in Smackdown was also caught in the “weakness” of drinking. I wonder if they really released her for that.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it, because SES will soon end and because they don’t know what to do with her, just because she doesn’t have the regular Diva look.

consider the fact that this could be an elaborate work by the WWE like there could be a chance that they ae tryna recreate the success they had with the daniel bryan situation cuz there have been reports that they new they were bringing him back pretty much from the start when they released him. they could have released her to let it build up internet heat and to give her hair a chance to grow back a little only to have make a run-in. i kno wishful thinkning but this has blown up online almost as big as daniel bryan’s release did, just think about it no publicity is bad publicity

I don’t think it’s a rumor anymore, these reports are far too detailed to be false. The only sketchy part is Serena rebelling against management by drinking in public. Serena always came off as a very dedicated person who is willing to sacrifice anything in order to succeed (in her case, getting cosmetic surgery and shaving her head), and if she made the mistake of drinking in public and management told her to stop, she would have apologized and stopped.
If it is true that Serena ignored WWE’s orders, then that is her own fault. When they threaten you being released, they mean it. And Serena mave have been too naive to realize it. But I can’t blame her completely. She came from the indies, where they have no rules on keeping your gimmick outside the ring, and she is 24. A lots of ladies her age like to party and get drunk.
This is too similar to Mickie’s firing. And the sad part is that they both allegedly were never warned. The big difference here is that Serena’s breaking SES rules storyline was used to warn her in a good way, while The “Piggie James” video was very tasteless.
Serena should go back to Shimmer and stay there, because that’s where she’s most appreciated. If she goes to TNA, she will likely be sparingly used like Hamada and Daffney. Under the rule of those tyrants Hogan and Bischoff, there is no point in even hiring another Knockout.

Another note, this year there was eight Divas were released, which is quite a lot compared to last year (not including Vickie, Lilian, and Victoria as they left on their own terms). What is WWE trying to do? Unify the titles and move all the Divas to Raw? Or are they slowly ridding of the division to go back to the Sunny and Sable days (when Divas were only valets)?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA smh some people on the internet I swear. CM Punk was Straight Edge before he was even wrestling. Pepsi is the deadliest thing he drinks. This is the man who had a fractured skull (I believe that’s what it was) and didn’t take medication for it. But no no you’re right he’s not Straight Edge at all.
Anyways, I can understand their release of her somewhat because if the storyline where CM Punk caught her drinking was a warning and she continued doing it after that then I would fire her too. You can’t say WWE can’t expect people to commit to their gimmick outside. Look at the freakin’ Undertaker; do you know how many things he has missed in order to stay in character? Maryse isn’t under a straight edge character and neither are the Bellas. Kelly’s pictures were before WWE at least the ones you are talking about are. Plus, if you are going to say they should fire Kelly for that then I guess they should have fired Mickie James, Maryse, and Tiffany when they turned PG since they all have old nudes out there.
