Divas Champion, Melina, has posted a new blog on her WWE Universe page discussing what it takes to be a champion — noting that just holding a belt doesn’t make one a ‘champion’. As always, it’s a very passionate, perhaps controversial, blog from the A-List Diva:
I am so thankful for all of the Tweets and support I have gotten regarding winning the Diva’s Championship. It’s unreal. My fifth title reign and it’s an astounding accolade. Everything in my life leading to that point in time…. the bad and good; all the hardships, all the haters who judged me with out even getting to know me & much more. On the other side I’ve been blessed to have the people that have touched my life and made that win at Summer Slam an unforgettable moment that will be treasured for the rest of my life. Thank you for that.
I have said this many of times; the title does not define me, I define the title. Many women through out wrestling history have defined the titles they fought for. Their love, desire, pride and respect gave their titles significance. These women stood for something; affected people’s lives; caused change… They are the ones that changed a piece of shiny metal into a prestigious symbol to be held by the greats.
Just because a person holds a title doesn’t make them a champion. We have seen people Forrest Gump their way to a title. Granted, a win is a win, but a champion is a champion with or without the title. To be a true champion is rare, and it can’t be faked. When a champion holds a title, they give it meaning.

-dictionary definition of “champion”– A person who has defeated all opponents in competition, a fighter/ warrior… a person who fights for or defends any person or cause.
Being the kind of champion I’m talking about is more than holding the coveted Championship in your hands for all to see. It’s how you carry yourself. What you stand for. Overcoming obstacles. Standing up/fighting for what you love and cherish.
Whether I am seen as a champion or not, I put my heart into an art that I believe in. I fight because I love it, even when it doesn’t seem to love me.

I have faith that women’s wrestling can be great and it can be more than what it is. I know it will be. Through it all, I hope to help add honor to the adorned championship and live up to what it means to be a Champion.

Great blog from Melina here. I can’t say anything else but that she is right. I don’t disagree with a word she said. :)

So whos that directed towards? Eve or Alicia? Yeah lets forget about how those two stepped up n tried to fill in her spot, while she was at home on injuring for several months. Stop talking shit and respect the people you work with, even the less experience ones.
And people wonder why some think she come off as a bitch…its comments like that.
Good blog but I can tell she took a few shots at a few women.
Where in there did Melina say anything about Eve or Alicia? Oh yeah, she didn’t. She could of been talking about LayCool for that matter or maybe she wasn’t thinking about anyone at all while writing her piece but of course, people are going to think the worst of Melina regardless of knowing the reason behind her words.
Anyway, it was a pretty good read but I don’t get that same passion and reality out of her pieces like I use too.
Perhaps she’s not talking about any of the Divas on the roster. She’s talking about what it takes to be champion, not what it takes to be women’s champions. Think of all the champions over time who didn’t actually work as hard as others to be champ, Jack Swagger, Santino Marella, Harvey Wippleman. Compare them to Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio and Trish Stratus.
I’m sorry, but I am so fucking sick of this woman.

Oh you mean like when she was handed the championship when she made her “triumphant return to raw” minutes after Jillian won the belt? Or when she bypass the whole roster again and was awarded the title just because “she didn’t have a proper reign” due to her injury? Where’s her blog about that? I know it’s not her call but did she think about that when she tweeted about Eve winning the belt? I soured on Melina after that. She came off a bit self-righteous and her delusions of grandeur is just so off-putting. After that tweet you really can’t blame anyone who find her a blog about something concerning the division a little suspect.
Melina isn’t taking shots at anyone in particular, it’s YOU guys who think she is. You always take everything she says out of context, and frankly seem like complete haters. The worst part is that many people wanted her back and are now trashing her, which is pathetic. If you think she’s taking shots at someone that’s YOUR problem, and if she did specifically name someone remember, these blogs are IN CHARACTER.
Some people seriously need to lay off of Melina, because I don’t get where the unwarranted hate comes from. Sheesh!
About 20 minutes ago I read a post by someone at forum f4wonline about Melina that put into words exactly what I felt after reading Melina’s blog.
“Why are we supposed to like her? She was pretty good when she was a heel, but now, she acts like she’s the cock of the walk, and I’m not really sure why. It’s actually kind of amusing to see that in her brain, she is the Hulk Hogan of Divas.”
Well said, TrishMelinaFan. People need to stop taking things out of context. It just makes an ass out of everyone.
In my opinion, Melina IS the top diva in WWE and she has been for a while. As far as ring-work goes, maybe Michelle McCool can rival her in some ways, but Michelle is nothing without Layla by her side. The only other diva who I think has the potential to catch up to Melina’s status (and do so without an arm-charm like Layla to keep her interesting) is Natalya… but I fear that the WWE is never going to give Natalya a proper push.

I was ready for the era of Melina to be over before it even started.
She was special as a heel, more specifically, as a valet for MNM. However, I’ve lost all interest in her as a face. It’s even worse that she apparently thinks she’s good when McCool has already surpassed her and girls like Layla, Alicia, and Eve are either at her level or dangerously close to her level.
The comment about her thinking she’s the Hogan of the Women’s Division is quite fitting.
i extremely like melina as a character as well as a wrestler, but all of her blogs and long-ass twets of late stink of ego and it’s doing her no favours.
I guess it’s Melina’s turn to be the unpopular diva online. I mean, these things go in cycle, and it hasn’t been her turn in a while. Really, people use her ‘squashing’ Alicia Fox as a choice, but let’s face it, they’ll probably decide that they hate Alicia next year, whereas Melina will be a hero.
Honestly, she writes these blogs for her *fans*. Don’t read them if you’re going to moan about how much you hate reading them and how much they don’t appeal to you. And please stop trying to put words into her mouth. :)

Maybe since there “rookies” at the moment they dont know what to do as champion. Melina’s first time as champion was just like Alicia Fox’s saying they dominated every single diva on the roster but no one said anything about her at the time. Melina does bring pride to the title but she shouldnt take advantage of it. Alicia & Eve aren’t use to being on LIVE television as champion they sometimes try to hard but so did melina at first. Layla is a big rookie and really wasn’t ready for the title but what does layla know about being champion. Melina just has to let the rookies get use to having the spotlight on them did she really have to have this blog.
I love melina but im becoming an anti – melina fan. She’s starting to get annoying w/ the sympothy of being champion. She believes she defines the title i see it but does she really have to brag about being so good , she has to understand there are a few diva’s who have had less experience then her she’s been in wrestling since 04? Most of the rookies today started there career’s in 07, does she see that?
Also by experience i mean outside WWE for example the other smaller promotions – OVW, FCW , DSW , etc.

When beth, michelle, and melina are gone from WWE and if alicia & eve are still in the company then those will be 2 of the diva’s that we’ll see over time and then the crowd will get use to them being champion right now there young in there careers so the WWE universe dont care about them as much as they do for the Pro’s.

She is so fucking cocky its pathetic IMO Yeah, she is the ‘top diva’ and she knows it ,thats why she acts the way she does. Instead of being a respected leader of the divas locker room, she’d rather take shots and belittle others to make herself look good.

Melina has been praising Alicia Fox since day one, so no, not obvious. And Layla? Where did that come from?
As for the comparison in reigns: Melina’s first title reign (well, first two, cause they were basically the same) consisted of her having consistently GREAT matches with Mickie James (including one which IMO has yet to be topped), crusading againt Playboy and jobbing out to Candice Michelle for months and months before losing the belt. Alicia’s consisted of axe kick botches, her beating everyone on the roster and STILL not getting any more heat than usual (i.o.w., none) and then losing to Melina at SummerSlam.

She was as her peak in terms of fan reaction when she was a super-heel, so no, not really. She’s over because she shows personality when she wrestles and has charisma.

I agree with all of the amazing matches but she still didnt get pops back in the day, iv been watching alot of old matches lately and when she came out you dont hear anything its silent just how it is for alicia. Also so what alicia botches but you got to give her some space she’s been in the company since 09′ and its now 10. Cant judge someone in a year, melina has been in the company since 05 till now you see why the crowd is so use to melina and not the new rookies.
i dont knw what to make outta this? in a way it seems like melina is taking shots, you can tell shes got an ego she truely belives shes better than everyone. i really want to like melina but sometimes she makes these sarcastic comments like back when she commented on eve winning the divas title that was pretty wierd and not cool, and when pple questioned melina on it she changed the topic around like she was innocent. that just show what kind of a person she is. she seem bitchy in a way and she does have a huge history of having the worst attitude backstage! she breaks all the records!
melina says that u have to work hard to be champ and its what she thinks she is, but i dunno she was handed the divas titles to her! she won them without really earning them!
and also melina is a good wrestler but recently shes been botching and tbh the only divas melina has good chemistry with is mccool and beth! mccool is amazing with melina they work well! and i disagree with the person who said michelle is nothing without layla its actually the opposite layla would be nothing without mccool, michelle is a very talented accomplished wrestler already!

Lol, what? Melina has NEVER been more over than she was from 2005-early 2007. Her reactions faded slightly during and after the Candice feud, but she’s remained over throughout the course of her career. Who else has achieved that in recent years, bar Mickie? Nobody, to my knowledge. She shone as a bitchy manager to MNM and as the foil to Mickie, which IMO is why people aren’t as warm to face Melina, and deny that she was over back then is idiotic.

ECW flashback – when alicia would come out dancing she literally had the crowd jumping and dancing because they got into her as a face but they ruined it when she went heel and alicia does have a personality how can you not see it?

I didn’t deny that. But the Melina has gotten a reaction from REGULAR fans, not just people active on wrestling sites. She’s over because of her personality and matches.

I’m sure she’d make a lovely face, but that doesn’t change the fact that she can’t get a reaction for the life of her under this heel ‘gimmick’.
Also how did i not recognize this but the diva’s dont get as much mic times as back in the day w/ melina as heel so the crowd dont care for them. Lay-cool are the only one’s and there really popular now you see if alicia was able to be on the mic as much as lay-cool do then people would at least boo her when she would enter the ring, something like the monday before she faked her injury in the match against eve when she was interviewed, yeah if she was able to do that more often then we would get a pop more often. Another proof is when maryse would always get on the mic to say things like she is to pretty, etc and that she actually got big pops. Now you see its how the diva’s are allowed to go on the mic that brings in there charisma and personality. Eve is quite so no wonder WWE is silent for her except last monday night she actually got a pop when she was tagged in.

i don’t recall melina praising alicia before, so i’ll take your word for it, but you’ve gotta admit it’s a bit odd seeing alicia as a champion, getting barely any offence in against melina, whereas melina let jillian (her best friend) kick her ass a bit? ..especially as it’s been said that the divas themselves put their matches together. i remember that preview of that maria shoot where she mentions melina “calling meetings” and telling certain divas what moves they’re not allowed to do lol.
i don’t know, i do like melina, but she seems to only want to put herself and her close friends over. which i can actually kinda understand as i’d likely do the same, but the division should be a group effort.
And yeah i know she praises alicia but maybe she didnt know they would give her a title that early. Melina got her first title in 07′ and has been trying so much to get a title since 05′ she just maybe be a bit mad on how alicia got a title so fast.
@Kaledrina: She’s been asked about the talent FCW has produced, and Alicia was the only one she took the time to praise heavily.
You’ve got to keep in mind that Alicia did get a LOT of offense in most of their other matches though. I imagine WWE have a larger say regarding how the diva matches go down on PPV? I’m not sure.
I don’t really agree with the last part. Candice mentioned that she and Melina didn’t get along initially, but Melina and management spent most of the first half of 2007 trying to get Candice over as a top face.
@LVEF: Melina got mic time for a reason. There’s no way in hell she would’ve gotten the amount of promos and speaking time she received back then had the WWE not been really impressed by her, and had she not been getting strong reactions since day one. I’m sure that if Alicia, Eve and the rest of them were that strong at promos then WWE would provide them with more time for cutting promos.
Great blog from Melina and I truly respect her opinion because that’s a what a blog is, your opinion.
I understand people thinking she directed it towards a certain diva or divas but, you cannot just simply infer word for word what she is saying. She could have just meant in general and again this is her opinion, not yours. She can write how she feels without trashing others which she doesn’t clearly saying “Alicia and Eve don’t deserve the title”. Like she said it’s about what you do as champion, not necessarily how you get it.
But, wait! I remember complaining when the spoilers came out that Eve won and she didn’t get a proper feud or anything, not it’s like terrible to say she didn’t deserve it. Everyone has their opinion, things have been said as Melina but until you meet her in person, you can’t read into what the internet feeds you. Anyone can edit things to make someone seem worse, but unless Melina clearly states it, you can’t say something is true.
Heel or Face, it doesn’t matter, she plays both roles very well. She can pull a reaction from the crowd both way while some divas just can’t do both. Melina is a talented diva and she shows it every time and gets the crowd in to.
Just don’t read the context deeply because she could in fact just be stating in general.
I really cant tell if Melina is trashing or just writing the blog. And maybe people should stop trashing her with what THEY THINK she is saying.

Alicia Fox debuted in June of 2008 and won the title in June of 2010 so it took her 2 years to win the title. Melina debuted in April of 05 and won it in Feburary of 2007. So technically Melina won hers faster
Everytime I read a Melina blog I dislike her more. I don’t want to feel like that but I can’t help it.
I will never take away from her natural talent (though I’m not as impressed with her in-ring game as many others are), but there’s just something about her I don’t like at all. These blogs always solidify it.

I’m not hating on Melina, but her attitude comes off so bad in these blogs (and some tweets shes made about divas) its hard to see where shes coming from. I mean most people see it as her taking shots at others, which it really does in this case. sooo yeah.

She debuted as a wrestler in 09. Also she debuted but then left for training so technically alicia won her’s faster.
And Torrie called her jealous for the Eve comment? A three time women’s champion jealous because someone else won their first Diva’s title? That doesn’t say much for Torrie, tbh.
I like Melina but I think her ego is inflating way too much recently.
seasons-of-love well melina has been critisised alot some superstars said this about melina “she isnt exactly and angel backstage” the person was anonymous.
if you go on internet there is a lotta heat on her, shes had alot of backstage issues and problems and im not making up it. she was the most hated person backstage i mean when she was drafted off of sd back in 05 pple were in relief, and also in article it said that melina has been trying ever since to rebuild her image and honestly i found one of these on melinas website. im not making it up im not a shloow person to make it up. another thing that came up was the fight she broke out between booker and batista, also she had a fight with sharmell, which lead to booker and sharmel to be released aswell. and then came the draft complaing and crying, then her personal issues with candice and mickie, and her being the reason of brooke adams being fired.
the list goes on. honeslt i aint making this up like i said its a shallow thing to do i actually read from sources and websites and they all say the same thing
