Divas Champion, Melina, has posted a new blog on her WWE Universe page discussing what it takes to be a champion — noting that just holding a belt doesn’t make one a ‘champion’. As always, it’s a very passionate, perhaps controversial, blog from the A-List Diva:

I am so thankful for all of the Tweets and support I have gotten regarding winning the Diva’s Championship. It’s unreal. My fifth title reign and it’s an astounding accolade. Everything in my life leading to that point in time…. the bad and good; all the hardships, all the haters who judged me with out even getting to know me & much more. On the other side I’ve been blessed to have the people that have touched my life and made that win at Summer Slam an unforgettable moment that will be treasured for the rest of my life. Thank you for that.

I have said this many of times; the title does not define me, I define the title. Many women through out wrestling history have defined the titles they fought for. Their love, desire, pride and respect gave their titles significance. These women stood for something; affected people’s lives; caused change… They are the ones that changed a piece of shiny metal into a prestigious symbol to be held by the greats.

Just because a person holds a title doesn’t make them a champion. We have seen people Forrest Gump their way to a title. Granted, a win is a win, but a champion is a champion with or without the title. To be a true champion is rare, and it can’t be faked. When a champion holds a title, they give it meaning.

More after the cut:

-dictionary definition of “champion”– A person who has defeated all opponents in competition, a fighter/ warrior… a person who fights for or defends any person or cause.

Being the kind of champion I’m talking about is more than holding the coveted Championship in your hands for all to see. It’s how you carry yourself. What you stand for. Overcoming obstacles. Standing up/fighting for what you love and cherish.

Whether I am seen as a champion or not, I put my heart into an art that I believe in. I fight because I love it, even when it doesn’t seem to love me.

“Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. – It’s harsh, and cruel. But that’s why there’s us. Champions. It doesn’t matter where we come from, what we’ve done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world was what it should be, to show it what it can be.”

I have faith that women’s wrestling can be great and it can be more than what it is. I know it will be. Through it all, I hope to help add honor to the adorned championship and live up to what it means to be a Champion.

  1. I love how so many of you think you can read minds. Did she DIRECTLY name anyone? NO, she didn’t, so you can’t say she’s talking about Eve, Alicia, and Layla. That’s just you guys getting into your own heads about things. Chill. Melina has praised Alicia, and we all know that the three women listed are great, so why do you think MELINA, of ALL people would just decide to randomly write a blog and direct bad things towards those three? What, cause’ she has nothing better to do? She doesn’t have other stuff to work on aside from being bitchy with other girls?

One things for sure, no one will EVER be able to take away what Melina’s done in WWE. Like it or not, she has CONSISTENTLY put out the top-notch Divas matches of the entire year, and a great example of that was her match with Jillian on Monday. That match got maybe three minutes, the typical amount for Divas, and it was Melina who made it great. Last time I checked, no one else’s matches have been that good. Not even Michelle and Layla have been able to stay consistent and DIFFERENT in their matches. Melina always does something new with the same girls she works with, but I don’t see anyone else doing that.

  2. was the “forest gump they’re way to a title” bit a jab at Eve?
if so she can’t say nothing, it’s not like she earned her recent title shot,

granted i like Melina (or have in the past) but the way she always comes back and steals every other Divas lime light annoys me, she doesn’t always need to be the champion and faces are always more interesting as the title chaser

and as Kaladrina said, her Blogs and longer tweets are smug

  3. @04bia: Exactly, the internet. How many RELIABLE sources have criticised Melina for her attitude? By reliable sources I’m talking reports from co-workers and people who have met her, not some dirtsheet claiming to have gotten information from a nameless source.

  4. When she writes about people Forest Gumping their way to a title, she might not be talking about women wrestlers. She might be talking about guys as well – God knows that sentence applies to them as much as any women who’ve held titles.

  5. And for what it’s worth, I absolutely loved it when Melina would actually write vicious blogs taking shots at other women back in her heel days. Those were fun…she should more of those, just for old time’s sake. Remember when she would totally rip into Ashley, Candice, Kelly and the rest of them? Lol.

Her current blogs are awesome too though.

  6. If anything, Melina should be supporting the new crop of divas as opposed to taking cheap shots via the insinuations in her blog posts, etc. This ‘holier than thou’ headspace simply goes to show that she considers these women as threats to her own career. And as far as “OMG SHE WASNT IMPLYING ANYTHING!” – ask yourself “What is rationale behind posting this blog entry in the first place?”

  7. *she should write more of those

  8. @Teri: Maryse doesn’t qualify then? Because I distinctly remember her tweeting that she would love to see Maryse get to hold the title for longer. Oh, and how about her praising Alicia as one of the best things to come out of FCW. And how about when she helped solidify Layla as an actual wrestler last year, allowing her to get a ton of offense in, even though Layla wasn’t nearly at her level. Oh, but she’s totally jealous…

    Melanie Reply:

This is getting very heated, very quickly. As our beloved Danger would say, SHIMMER down.

  9. Melanie- At least we’re being respectful of each other’s opinions, right? :)

  10. Tbh, I don’t respect the ‘opinion’ of someone who accuses a woman they don’t know of being a fake bitch based on some passing comment which most likely didn’t mean anything, bar the obvious.

  11. season-of-love: Well yeah, but I mean we aren’t being vulgar towards each other, so that’s good. No need for anyone to get caddy with each other, as we ALL love women’s wrestling.

  12. True. At least we’re, um, arguing over a common interest. And I enjoy debating about Melina. I just prefer it when we’re arguing about strength as a wrestler and character, rather than her ‘real life’ personality.

  13. seasons of love- I’ve already said it. It doesn’t matter what anyone says, Melina has consistently put out the best work out of all the current Divas. No denying it.

  14. Defo. I maintain that she’s had the WWE women’s match of the year practically every year since 2005, except perhaps in 2006.

2005: vs. Trish @ Survivor Series
2006: Probably Mickie/Trish, but Melina/Jillian and Melina/Trish on RAW are up there
    2007: vs. Mickie @ Backlash
2008: vs. Beth @ One Night Stand
2009: vs. Michelle @ The Bash

    I patiently await our 2010 match. :)

  15. People are so stupid to even say Melina is a bitch… do you know her?.. NO! Don’t know if anyone remembers this but everyone at DivaDirt likes her… so shutup. You listen to DivaDirt all the time and you still go by and assume their judgment is wrong?
If your going to bitch about Melina atleast have info to back you up…

  16. seasons of love- Yup! You listed every single one. And I personally think Melina vs Mickie @ Backlash is the best women’s wrestling match of this era.

  17. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  18. @TrishMelinaFan: I won’t hesitate to say that it’s my favourite match ever. :P

A great match is one that you can watch over and over again and continue to love it, and Mickie/Melina does that for me. All of their matches were brilliant though, and I think it’s a crime that WWE never capitalized on their chemistry together. The fans loved their matches, and that’s rare in post-Trish WWE.

  19. I love Melina and I couldn’t agree more with her blog.

@Teri – Your just throwing mud against the wall trying to make something stick. Seriously, relax yourself. Melina didn’t say Alicia or Eve for the last time. And remember the Divas don’t book their own storylines. If they did I’m sure things would be just a little bit differently…

Also, for the person who said some of the women are dangerously close to her level, I honestly LMAO! Thanks I needed that. Melina is the greatest of Divas currently in the WWE. She wrestles good, she’s beautiful and she can get the fans involved. All the other women are lacking in some department. Some more than others.

People are just being haters. So much so they’re now making up lies to justify themselves. That’s sad. But alas, there’s always that small group of people who you can’t please. Lita, Trish, Sable, Chyna, Mickie, Torrie and Stacy can relate to that I’m sure.

Melina rules and you know it. ;)

  20. Holy dips, melina didnt have to say alicia, eve or layla. She said it in her own ways so she wont put anyone under the bus but you can tell that she is trying to say they dont define the title like she does, i know if i was trying to talk about someone i would say it in my own ways so no one can tell who im really talking about she is trying to pull it off, also if she was really talking about it in general she would of said it a while back but isn’t it weird she said after all 3 rookies held a title, maybe she is trying to say she is a better champion then alicia and eve. DO you seriously believe she is saying this in general that is utter bull shit, she has to be talking about specific people it’s pretty obvious.

  21. Nice blog, she speaks the truth…Melina is definately this generations “golden girl” now all she needs is a storyline.

    Melina is #1 IMO :)

  22. @hoorahmonster

Also yes there is proof to back it up. Someone anonymously said melina wasnt an angel backstage so there is your proof melina acts really sweet but she may have a sour side of her. She is an amazing wrestler and potrays the face character well but that’s called acting i have to give her props she is a really nice actor the way she is trying to pull it off. She also has the biggest ego in the WWE bigger than the miz’s fake ego!

  23. Wow itz so funny how ppl jump down Melina throat for a few words abt being a champ.! If melina said this comment 2yrs ago b4 her face turn before her 3rd Womens Title Regin when she was jobbing to Mickie & Maria each week. Then nobody here would have been callering her overrated & a Bitch.

Melina didnt call anyone out , all she stated is what being a champion is all about and hse is right you dont have to have a belt to b a champion…female athletes today are already champs in their own way shape or form Natalya dosent need the divas or womens championship to prove her skills , neither does Jillian or Gail kim.

Melaine is right this topic is getting way outta hand , not b cuz some of you dnt like Melina dosent mean you say stuff & assume you know what type of person she is…

  24. @ LaceyVonErichFan sorry but your pretty much jumping to conclusions based on pure heresay. Somehow you’ve convinced yourself(You and others)that she did say Alica and Eve…to you its no longer speculation, its fact. And that’s a serious problem in itself if you do that in your everyday life. Not everything is as it seems. Remember that.

  25. Who cares if Melina was saying she is better then everyone else ? What wrestler outside of the wwe will ever admit that they are better then someone else. Honestly ppl we really dont need to sit here and point out the TOP Divas in wwe right now. B cuz we kno who those 5 r….

  26. @TrishMelinaFan LOL Looks like we r the only 2 jumping to Melina’s defense…

  27. Melina doesn’t “obviously” state any names of people she might believe have “forrest-gumped” their way to a title but in a very subtle way, she took a shot at the Divas division. She has always done this in her subtle ways and sounds smug. I am NOT a fan of Melina and truly see no talent in a woman who cannot even perform her own entrance without botching it, much less compete in a competent match. It’s rather laughable how her fans/well wishers/Diva-Dirt readers compare her to this generations Trish Stratus when Melina is clearly a competitor who is viewed as the “best” in a long list of women who are less competent. Simply, Melina has so many fans because of she is the “best” of worst Divas.
If Natalya was allowed to wrestle more on TV, she would blow the entire crop of Divas out of the water, including “fan favorite” Melina. Melina has always been known to have a negative attitude backstage and since being moved from SD to RAW in 2005, she has continuously put on a fake charade which people are always fooled by. She walks around with her fake smile while she is actually hiding a wicked, “bitchy” attitude she actually has. This blog, like so many of her others, have shown her true character as a Diva who thinks she is above others while many others on the Diva roster can easily outwrestle her if given the opportunity.
It’s ignorant and foolish of Melina to even suggest that other champions may have “forrest-gumped” their way to a title as she did NOT even earn an opportunity to be in a title contender-ship on RAW. This time and the last when she swooped down on Jillian. I don’t want to hear from any Melina fans about speculation about her attitude because she has always made little blog posts slamming the Divas division and quickly rewrites another to keep up with her fake charade. Such was the time she bashed Eve when she won the title and then wrote a full blog “praising” all the Divas and talking about each of them as if she had created them and brought them to their full being.
I appreciate Diva-Dirt for letting us post our comments and I never had an account prior to this but seeing people commenting about how annoyed they were of Melina’s charades really encouraged me to make one and chip in my two cents. I know this is going to be received with much anger and arguing but I was NEVER a fan of Melina and I had simply had enough of her and her fans encouraging every wicked little blog post she posted. I am voicing my opinion as a NONMelina fan, and I am quite fond of that. You all might get annoyed by this blog post but at least my comment has proper punctuation/grammar/spelling.
Melina should just focus on not botching her entrances and every other match she performs in rather than calling out other Divas. She has no business in it.

  28. I’m fully respect your opinion to be honest. Not everyone is a fan of Melina’s work, and that’s realistic. Most people don’t all like one certain diva, a group of people aren’t going to like a certain diva.

As far as her ego backstage and stuff, there wasn’t any evidence of what she was doing. If she had such bad management problems, she probably would have been released just like Mickie James. However, I’ve heard that she’s nice at greets and etc, especially at the FCW show she attended.

Everybody has their opinion on this, but truly unless Melina said “Eve or any other diva shouldn’t forest gump their way to the title”, then we can’t say for a fact that she’s bashing the divas division. So show a little respect for Melina because is there any other diva who really blogs about anything with the diva division?

  29. @LorienB

Arent you jumping to conclusions, i mean seriously you have never even met or known melina in real life and yet your so quick to comment on how she has an attitude problem, or that shes a bitch… really thats pathetic if you ask me hating a person you don’t even know. Hell i bet your one of those fans that believe every single thing wrestling news sites write as if its all the truth….whatever to each their own i guess…

  30. “So show a little respect for Melina because is there any other diva who really blogs about anything with the diva division?”– Thank you. I know Michelle used to do it awhile back but she stopped.
About the blog: Its her opinion! She can say what she wants. I saw some people saying she was talking about Alicia, Layla, and Eve. Did she name them in the blog? Um no. Some people are just jumping to conclusions. I’m pretty sure if she was going to talk about them, she would have. Like Jennifer said, she could’ve been talking about a male wrestler.

  31. I know she’s a favorite of this site but this woman is so far up her own ass it’s not even funny anymore. I’m sick of this fake “I’m a good girl” act but then yet turns around and throws jabs at other girls. I truly believe Candice, Maria and others (well Candice awhile ago) when they say she’s mean (using an alternative there). I remember her making a big deal about Eve winning the title months ago about it not being built up but turns around and gets it quicker and now it’s okay. I’m done with her, have been, and it was nice not seeing her for those 8 months. Sounds rude but I’m being honest.

And I remember her bitching to other girls about using her moves and turns around and uses one of Trish’s signature moves (the MaTrish) even when Trish has said she doesn’t like her using it in interviews before. She’s a hypocrite.

Now let the hate for that commit…

  32. Show her respect because she blogs about the division? WTF?? Oh my..

  33. @donnie darko

Pretty much yes i did and i admit tht.

But if you just re-read the blog you can tell that melina isnt just saying this in general because she said that just because you held a belt doesnt make you a champion..ding ding eve torres.

But she didnt say the divas name becuase then she would look like a toal bitch but she said in her own kind words but still shouldnt even both to say that there are so many things she can blog about like about how the division is treated about her recovery apparently she had to many “weights” on her shoulder that she just felt the eager to let it all out.

I love melina’s wrestling but her character seems bland to me she’s a hero but w/ a bland character.

All im trying to say is just because she isnt talking about eve & alicia, she may be even though its not fact , it’s very obvious. I know if i was melina and was current champion i wouldnt say this stuff in general, i would try to give hints on who im talking *cough*cough* Eve, Alicia and Layla.
Melina does define the title and i agree that the 3 rookies didnt define it but there rookies they dont know how to act as champion yet.

  34. And LorienB summed it up perfectly tbh.

  35. About her negative attitude backstage, who can prove that? Wow because of some dirtsheet website? Are you kidding me? Let’s come up with something more credible, thanks =)

  36. Okay that’s it im getting so irritaded.

Melina didnt HAVE TO SAY EVE AND ALICIA. She said it in her own kind words to point out who she was talking about! RE – READ it. I read it 3 times and i see she is explaining herself about alicia and eve.

For example in a much understanding way – If someone like michelle said ::

“I believe i defined the belt but not like others who they think the belt defined them …….AKA eve torres and alicia fox.”

Dont get me wrong but eve and alicia are my top favourites so i see where she is coming from.

I guess that is a way you can put it.

  37. I don’t know, I really love Melina as a performer and entertainer. However, for some reason this blog really rubs me the wrong way. I (and others) could be looking too much into it. But, Melina still manages to make herself come off very self righteous, and not humbling at all. It’s not a good look. What kind of throws me off is it’s clear Melina knows people will hate her regardless of what she says, but why does she keep making comments like this when she knows it will be taken the wrong way and blown out of proportion. I don’t get why she puts herself in these spots consistently.

  38. @KIKI

No candice has said it before and so has maria, i dont like maria and candice but i do believe on there facts about melina saying she isnt liked backstage because she is pretty much self proclaimed and a bit fake but i still love melina’s wrestling but thats all.

  39. “”Just because a person holds a title doesn’t make them a champion. We have seen people Forrest Gump their way to a title. Granted, a win is a win, but a champion is a champion with or without the title. To be a true champion is rare, and it can’t be faked. When a champion holds a title, they give it meaning.”"

The first sentence there you go eve won a match against maryse but she didnt define the title and same goes with alicia, only a self minded person would think she’s talking about it in general i for sure wasnt born yesterday i know when someone is attacking another human being.

I hope now a few of you see it that melina is a great worker but has a mean side aswell.

  40. @LaceyVonErichFan– Okay I remember the Candice thing, which was stupid btw, but they’ve come to respect each other. Maria…what is there to say about her?
If Michelle did put something like that in her blog, would everyone say the same things about Michelle that they’ve been saying about Melina?

  41. wow man this is one heated topic, so what is it melina’s turn to be the hated diva of the internet (it was eve, maryse and michelle before her)…lol some people on here talk as if they know melina personally…i’ll say this i won’t judge anyone (or resort to calling them derogatory names) just because they’re getting pushed or are vinces favorites…if only everyone else was like that…calling melina a “fake bitch” WOW…someone has issues…

  42. @Kiki I don’t know about anyone else but if Michelle came of shady to me in a blog then I would say something about it. I might have my faves but I hate when people disrespect others so I would say something. We really don’t know if Melina was calling anyone out or not only she does. But from what I read it seems alittle shady and I believe she was taking shots at people. I could be wrong about that and honestly I hope I am. Like I said early i don’t want to dislike her but the blogs and tweets I read from her really is making me lean that way. That’s just my opinion of course

  43. @KIki

Well people bash on michelle so much more than melina so they would have much more meaner things to say if michelle ever said something like that .

    @Juan

Well she isnt a bitch but a bit fake even 2 former WWE diva’s have said it in there own ways so we dont have to know her to judge her. Never judge a book on it’s cover and everyone judged melina as a sweet girl she is but she may have a bitchy side as well something everyone might not about now.

Half of the diva and knockouts are getting hate lately.

1)Eve because she won the divas title.
2)Michelle because she is pretty much overrused/overrated.
3)Tara because they think she will steal all the spotlight from the other ko’s.
4)Maryse because she is such a bad wrestler BUT with such an amazing character, doesnt get hate as much anymore.
5)Kelly because she isnt the best wrestler around but is a fan favourite for the kids.
6)Melina because well it really started when she won back the divas title that she didnt deserve just yet.
    7) Angelina because she has another reign as knockouts champion.

All i have to say is this year is pretty much the worst ever for the divas division and knockouts division.

Who’s the next target of the obsessed women’s wrestling fans?

  44. I guess it’s hard for some Melina fans to understand that not everyone share their opinion about her. Judging by most of the response here alone, a lot of people got a negative vibe from that blog. Maybe it’s them jumping to conclusion because of what she said about Eve before or whatever but that’s what they got from that said blog. You chose to accept her words for what it was and therefore didn’t see anything remotely suspect or disparaging towards her peers. But that doesnt mean you are right and the others are just haters. Some of us believe that her “niceness” is just an act and some think it’s genuine. But who’s is right and who is wrong? Who knows…We’re all just outsiders forming an opinion about someone we dont really know. Unless you are in her inner circle and know her personally, your opinion about her is no different from mine…just pure speculations.

  45. Yes it is really amazing that melina has time to tweet us and blog about things not all divas/knockouts do that but she just shouldn’t say things that may look like she put someone under a bus, if eve saw that then she may get a few hints even though melina may not act like a bitch she maybe inside. Michelle McCool tweets as well but never says something that would make someone look bad she may have a thing or two about a few divas but she might say it to someone else she trusts without posting blogs on the internet, making a big debate.

  46. LaceyVonErichFan & sugarrush28 True, I see where you guys are coming from. It’s a matter of opinions.

  47. @kiki

lol yeah i can see your point but still i think its a bit harsh to call someone a bitch when you’ve never even talked to them or know them

and yeah lol alot of divas/knockouts are getting alot of heat lately…i guess some people are justhard to please well diva/KO fans that is

  48. well atleast now we know melina can create quite a buzz online lol

  49. You don’t have to know someone to think they’re acting like a complete bitch. Her comments come off like that, I don’t care how many reports have criticized her piss poor attitude. People say shes mean or whatever, based off her blogs and tweets alone that shes made about other divas. Yes, she might be all nice to her fans (which is great) but that still doesn’t excuse the fact she comes off like a bitch and puts down other divas for no reason, other than to make herself look good.

  50. @Juan yeah the whole name calling thing is not called for at all, that’s outright disrespect. There are other ways to say you don’t like someone without resorting to the name calling.
