Divas Champion, Melina, was in the WWE.com Raw live chat moments ago and commented on her upcoming title unification match with one half of Lay-Cool at Night of Champions. She wrote (and please excuse the caps):
* THIS IS AN EXCITING MOMENT! THIS IS AN AMAZING CHALLENGE THAT I’M ALL FOR! TO HAVE THE DIVAS SUPPORT SAYS SO MUCH AND I AM SO GRATEFUL. IT’S ALSO A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD NOW. ONE ON ONE.
* NOW THAT ITS ONE ON ONE IT’S GOING TO BE FAIR AND I KNOW IT WILL BE GOOD. LET’S SEE WHO IT IS, LAYLA OR MICHELLE. I’M READY FOR THIS.
* EVERYTHING IS ON THE LINE FOR NOC. BOTH THE TITLES. IT’S GOING TO BE AN AGGRESSIVE MATCH.
* MY HEART KINDA HURTS BECAUSE I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT FOR THE WOMEN’S TITLE AND PRIDE IN WHAT WE HAVE BROUGHT TO THE DIVA’S CHAMPIONSHIP….. IT’S GOING TO WEIRD TO CHANGE EITHER OF THEM. (Speaking on what the championship belt will look like after Night of Champions)

We all know it’s gonna be Michelle even though it should be Layla since she is the actual champ. Not looking foward this.
Well at the very least, Melina and Michelle can put on a good match. They’re intense in there.
On a sidenote- Rumor is TNA signed Carlito and not Katie Lea. The Pope D Angelo tweeted “Now that’s Cool!” About the new signee. So take that with a grain of salt.
Does anyone know if the new undisputed champion will carry both belts similar to what Jericho did? Or will a new belt be created?
› now the playing field is leveled? excuse me for assuming, and i do like melina, despite my comment i am going to make…i don’t get what that means. what i think she means is that it’ll be a one-on-one match, but isn’t that inevitable? the only time an actual handicap match has actually taken place was layla & michelle versus beth who was the champion at the time..other than that, nothing can stop lay-cool from cheating and doing what they want, even as one-on-one.
› with that being said, is she trying to say that with about eight or nine ( estimated ) divas at ringside and “on her side,” that michelle/layla won’t get the chance to cheat? if so, i think that’s major props saying it takes those many girls just to level the playing field. lol, i know i am probably reading too much into it, but i’m a lay-cool mark, so i’ll most likely never be fair to whomever is opposing lay-cool .. but i said most likely =P

It takes all those diva to level the playing field for it to be fair to Melina. I highly doubt it will be anything of a fair match. With all of those girls hating LayCool they’ll probably just pull them out the ring just to beat them or Melina dodging a move and them going over the rope.
If it takes all of those girls for you to be LayCool then Melina you should not be champion.
I hope the LumberJILLS start turning on each other at ringside. I hope Alicia and/or Maryse or Jullian attack Melina. I want Eve to slap the shit out of KellyKelly (she annoys me).
Well for now unifying the title sounds good, but in about a month or two or three. We will slowly start to get the news of some Divas getting released because they are just wasting space.
I want to see Melina vs. Michelle. Michelle wins. The glory goes to her head. Layla is getting tired of her friends ego. Michelle starts treating Layla as the lackey she is. Tension rises. They start to lose matches (tags and handicap. Layla is the one being pinned). Kaval steps in and Michelle puts him in his place, Layla takes up for Kaval and Michelle bitches about Layla picking Kaval over her and Layla strikes back about how she changed after she got the belts. Michelle walks off. Michelle comes back with bogus apology they shake and be friends. More matches are lost (mainly Layla’s because of Michelle). During some matches Michelle walks away because they are losing leaving to get a beatdown. More tension builds as Michelle’s head is getting bigger. Layla and Kaval are both tired of Michelle and her ego. Layla finally gets a backbone and kicks Michelle out of LayCool and says there is no more LayCool. She says she’s Layla and Michelle is Michelle. Michelle gets pissed and starts attacking Layla each chance she gets. “Nobody kick me out of a group”. A few promo from Michelle bashing Layla calling her weak and how she carried her and calls her a little midget. Layla is now a face, but is still feisty. She cuts a few promos. The feud begins. Michelle dominates Layla for a while and eventually Layla picks up some wins. More stuff happen and to fuel to the fire. Vickie is on Michelle’s side and introduces Smackdown’s newest wrestler…. HUSKY HARRIS! You see where I am going with this.

More than likely, the lumberjills from Raw are not going to be all that proactive in regards to Laycool. Kelly might try to get involved however. I have a feeling that whomever is not picked to be Mel’s opponent is going to be dealing with a pissed K-Squared a good deal of the night at NOC.
Melina is right about this being sucky regardless how you slice it. Either they get rid of the storied Women’s title or they deliver a slap to the face of the divas who’ve held the Divas title by saying it was all for nothing. If I were Maryse I would be especially pissed as her first title reign saw the Divas title start to come into its own and she is the first diva to be a multi-time Divas’ champ. At least Melina has ties to the Women’s belt if it is the one they keep.
But I think since WWE practically refuses to call the Divas anything but Divas, that the pretty princess butterfly belt is the one they would be keeping. Geez, that belt looks awful with most of the divas (except Maryse…cuz she is a pretty French princess, lol).

As for the Divas and Womens titles being unified, I think it definitely smells of leverage being exercised backstage. The situation should be obvious though no dirtsheet or blog will have enough inside information to prove it outright. Unifying the titles and spreading out just one major women’s feud between two shows, allowing players like Melina, Laycool and Maryse to move between brands, actually stunts the growth of the division overall.
Instead of concurrent feuds you get one feud, instead of two title histories you have one, and instead of multiple “driving lanes” for face/heel dynamics you have only the two that cross over with the unified belt. It is an unwise decision, it will certainly shrink the overall potential for WWE developing female talents on-air (though that itself may be wise, and is the core of this decision, the new crop hasn’t gotten over save Laycool/Maryse). It absolutely buries fringe talents that would be hoping to slip into a short-term feud slot in coming months. The one saving grace, of course, is that it gives them a chance to zoom-in on a longterm feud and focus on delivering a multi-month, meaningful payoff.
Sharing a storyline between shows, especially letting Hayes & the SmackDown team get a hold of it with instructions to write longterm, could prove to have meaningful payoffs. The downside is that developing and bringing up talent will take a backseat to glory runs for certain established female talents. All in all, I don’t support the womens’ title unification, and it goes to show why even anti-TNA fans should at least give them attention, respect and critique too. If TNA can build up momentum with the Knockouts again, as they’re threatening to do, some support from the more notorious IWC suckups could influence WWE to copy them (again).
I REALLY REALLY HATE THE IDEA…. though it will give the audience REAL tension… cause you really can’t tell who would win…
whoever is the winner…. it might be a sign… If the title are unified then a single title is created… then that mean 1 title for the women… and with NXT ending before 2011 maybe they might use that to be a ALL DIVA SHOW.. just maybe… Id like that… if thats what they are going to do.. but if not ID BE SO PISSED…
I agree with fanboy that would be awesome if wwe makes the ALL DIVA SHOW at long the old perves don’t watch it.

WWE officials were upset with some of the Divas after the recent tour in California, which resulted in the suspension of Tiffany and the release of Serena. Word is that there was “too much drama.”
- As noted before, WWE will be holding a Unification match for the Divas and Women’s Titles at Night of Champions. The talk Monday was that WWE is planning to unify all the titles in the next year and have one World Title, one Tag Team Title, one Intercontinental/US Title and one Women’s Title. The idea would be to do the WWE and World Title Unification match at WrestleMania 27.

i would be more interested to see how Divas that aren’t in the title picture feel about this, i mean she’s going to be a bit biased on the subject since she may win

I dont think it takes that many girls to take down Laycool in all fairness we seen it before.. all it takes is Maria and Mickie James … and its a luberjill match because it makes sense, its not like Melina was going to say she was going to bring a manager down because that wouldn’t make sense?
I hope Melina faces Michelle. They would put on a better match than Melina and Layla.
I also hope that the new title doesn’t have a freaking butterfly in it, nor nothing that screams “hey I’m a girl and I like unicorns and rainbows”. I like normal looking titles.
The thing about having the Divas support doesn’t mean that Melina thinks Laycool are amazingly strong. Don’t forget that Laycool are heels and most Divas are probably against them. The exception will probably be Maryse and Alicia. Maybe Jillian too.
it should be LAYLA VS MELINA michelle should be a jill & nothing more in the match & maybe helping layla thats it since layla & melina have had good matches on smackdown so i see them having a good match with layla coming out the winner & making mccool jealous & so she mccool turns on layla…layla stands alone as the womens champ..

i think they will keep both belts instead of creating 1 belt because layla is officail champ even on wwe.com it says layla is champ so i think they will just simply give michelle the diva title but why is michelle doing all the work and if they unify does that mean they can go on any brand because smackdown have no divas?
i think since lay-cool kicked alicia out shell hate them and michell used 2 fued wuth maryse and last september lay-cool walked out on a match with jillan soooooooo all the divas and melina vs laycool
