Last week on Monday Night Raw, BFF co-champs, LayCool told Melina they had an “offer she simply can’t refuse” for the 900th episode of Raw. As promised, LayCool appeared on Raw to inform the Divas Champion of their offer, but not before taking her on in a tag team match. Watch below as LayCool face off against Eve and the Divas Champion, Melina:

We come from commercial to find LayCool already in the ring, checking their reflections in their belts. (Belt? Half-belts?) Out next is the team of Melina and Eve, and LayCool welcome their fellow champ by running that ‘Lady Wawa’ joke even further into the ground. Without much pretense, the bell rings and our match is underway.

Michelle and Melina start off the match for their teams and right off the bat, McCool charge at Melina with a clothesline. Melina evades, and fights back with a flurry of forearms. While Michelle is still flustered, Melina charges Layla in the corner, knocking her to the floor. Unfortunately for Melina, Michelle McCool takes advantage of the distraction and floors her with a belly to belly slam for a near fall.

Now in control, Michelle tags in Layla, who slams Melina face-first into the canvas, before flinging her across the ring by her hair. Layla pulls Melina to her feet and towards her corner for the tag, taunting her all the while, but Melina manages to shove her off and into Michelle (Doesn’t that count as a tag?). In the subsequent confusion, Melina rolls Layla up in a school boy pin for the win.

I wish I could really review this match, but honestly there’s not that much to go over. From bell to bell, the match didn’t even make the minute mark (Fifty seconds, to be exact), which has to be some sort of record, even for WWE. You would think that in a match showcasing all their Diva champions and a former champion, they’d give the match at least two minutes, right? Wrong. But let’s face it, this match wasn’t about the wrestling. It was merely a vehicle for Laycool’s offer. And what an offer it was.

As Melina and Eve celebrate, LayCool get on the mic and finally unveil their offer: A title unification match at Night of Champions (NOOOOOOOOO!!!!). Melina counters LayCool’s offer by making it a Lumberjack match, which prompts all of the Divas from all brands (except for Tiffany, of course) to come out and back up the Divas Champion.

In the past I have been very outspoken on the prospect of unifying the two championships, but I never thought that WWE would actually pull the trigger. Like I’ve said before, unifying the titles is a horrible move on WWE’s part. There are so many girls not being used as it is, (The Bellas, Rosa, Gail, Jillian…) and without a second belt to compete for, I doubt WWE will see the need for such a huge Divas roster. I predict many of the Divas being released before the year is out, especially with the possibly of even more Divas being called up as part of NXT.

Looking forward to Night of Champions, the thought of a Melina/Michelle rematch from last year is very exciting. They put on an awesome match at last year’s NOC, so hopefully we’ll see them do the same this year. That said, I feel like LayCool will find some way to make this a handicap match or pull out the win via sneaky tactics, even with the others Divas at ringside.

Hopefully, WWE will see the error of their title unifying ways and change this match before Night of Champions (not holding my breath.), but in the meantime, I’m interested to see what kind of interaction LayCool and Melina (if any) will have in the coming weeks on Raw and SmackDown.

  1. hey least we know about the match weeks head of time instead of the week of the PPV im iffy it could go good or it could be horrendous lol with the rumor of all the titles Unifying.

  2. I, too think it’s a bad idea.

I do not like the unification tag team titles. I think it’s dumb. What’s the use of having two titles if one team is going to always hold them? I mean, sure having one team hold both titles is a great idea but not if EVERY time they are defended, both of them are on the line. It’s crap. Soooo many tag teams they had and now it’s reduced to a few.

As for the divas/women’s title. Crap. It’s crap. There are so many divas that they have there and a few of them haven’t had the opportunity to fight for it. NOW it’ll be even less. And while I love Melina and Michelle and Layla I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM ON BOTH SHOWS! It took me forever to like the idea of separate branches. I hated that they separated Raw and SmackDown, but then I came to realize that it gave people other than Triple H and The Rock a chance to shine. GREAT IDEA! I also thought it wasn’t fair that the SmackDown divas didn’t have a chance at a title shot…so then they made the Diva’s Title. GREAT IDEA!

….and now they decided that having two women’s champions is too much for them.

I mean, they could have just made a diva’s tag title for frak’s sake.

  3. the only interesting thing about that is..all divas hate lay-cool so they will be having big troubles!!

  4. There’s nothing to comment on the match.

I still think they don’t need two titles. People complain to much about their favorite wrestler not having a title. I would prefer for them to have better feuds and longer matches. It isn’t the titles that make wrestling watchable. Its the matches and the promos.

The proof is Jillian. She’s a jobber that only got a title for 5 minutes, yet she is one of the Divas with most reaction (if not the one with most reaction) thanks to her gimmick.

Besides in my opinion there are few divas who are title deserving (even though mine and WWE’s opinion is different) and they are:

    Michelle
    Melina
    Beth
    Gail
    Jillian
    Natalya

.They are only six, just enough for a title. Tamina might be in this group sooner. People might put Layla also in this group, or even Maryse and Alicia, but to me they aren’t still good enough, even though Layla is almost there (her charisma is amazing and funny, but her in ring work still can be better, because she doesn’t have many moves).

This would actually be good to define more the women’s division. WWE can easily choose now who is supposed to be a valet, who is supposed to only get victories in tag team matches, etc. This will also be good for women to step up their game, because in order for them to be considered contenders, they will have to really impress management.

The other thing is, if you see the historical of the titles, its almost always the same people with them. With this, instead of having 2 Michelle or Beth title reigns in a year, we could have more champions and the titles wouldn’t be so boring.

People are only seeing the bad side of the unification, when the good side is way bigger.

Besides this will open more choices for feuds and alliances. The Raw Divas who only get a minute match on RAW, might have a 5 minute match on Smackdown. Girls from Smackdown could also get exposure on the A show, which would bring her a wider fan base.

  5. Nice choice pic! Alicia Fox and Rosa are stunning!! Alicia looks like royalty. I’m not a big fan of lumberjack matches though, they’re usually a mess. The only one I liked was Mickie vs. Lita..well the lumberjacks anyway, because that night Lita was wrestling like she had just woken up. Hopefully they find a way to make it special and wrestle like guys. ;)

    PS- Throw in a Superplex!

  6. @AnnaNattieRules – I couldn’t agree more. You make perfect sense. This might work out for the better. And I don’t mind a new Womens Championship design belt. Its about time id say.

  7. “Besides this will open more choices for feuds and alliances. The Raw Divas who only get a minute match on RAW, might have a 5 minute match on Smackdown. Girls from Smackdown could also get exposure on the A show, which would bring her a wider fan base.”

I would think if WWE goes through with this that only the champion would travel from show to show, as that’s how it has always worked whenever there hasn’t been a champion for each brand. The champion can be on both shows, but everyone else stays on her own show.

  8. The match was the worst 2 seconds of my life.

I hate the fact the they are unifying the titles. There are 2 seperate titles for reason. One for Raw and one for Smackdon. I admit the championship feuds have been a little lack luster but they can easily fix that. It makes no sense and creates less jobs for the divas. No reason to unify the titles at all.

  9. According to the latest Figure Four Weekly, WWE is planning to unify all the titles (Divas/Women’s and Intercontinental/United States), culminating with a match between the WWE Champion and the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania XXVII. The tag team titles are already unified and have been for the last year or so without any problem, and I don’t see why having only one Women’s championship will cause a problem either.

I imagine that WWE will keep hold of the Divas title as it’s more fitting with their direction and is more marketable as a toy replica, much like the current WWE Championship belt is.

    Melanie Reply:

If they are unifying all the belts then I have no problem with this. If it’s just specific to the Divas, then I have a problem.

  10. chrisP: maybe, but maybe not. Smackdown is low on Divas right now, so probably some RAW girls will travel to SD!

  11. “Melina counters LayCool’s offer by making it a Lumberjack match, which prompts all of the Divas from all brands (except for Tiffany, of course) to come out and back up the Divas Champion.”

Tiffany wasn’t the only one missing, as Natalya wasn’t out there for some reason. even though she was with the Hart Dynasty when they tried to help Bret.

  12. Not a big fan of Lumberjack matches, especially as all the other Divas seem to be on Melinas side. Why would Alicia (for example), who has been utterly humiliated by Melina, want to help her become the unified champion? That said Michelle vs Melina should be a really good match. I don’t want the titles unified so i’m hoping for a Laycool win, with them then revealing it was just there way of ma king sure they hold all the gold. I’m not holding my breath though. I can see quite a few diva releases coming before the year is out.

  13. i hate the idea of this to but its gonna happen and we all know whos gonna win
    MELINA
    1.shes currently WWE NO1 diva
2.she hasnt held the divas title long enough
    3.All the divas hate laycool

im just hoping that laycool win then they fued with either layla or michelle going to raw with their title and we get to see some kind of michelle vs layla at bragging rights….anyone like my idea =)
please wwe theres two many divas for one title, if you do this then please create tag titles for the other divas

  14. @Ana_Nattie_rules

I agree with you with the current Divas roster, the six you mention are the only ones who deserve title runs. I think Tiffany might be ready in a year for a title if she continues the improvement that she’s been showing in the ring; (Assuming the WWE doesn’t release her.) I know I’ve said this in another post the rumor is the WWE is going unified all of the titles in the next year with the WWE & World title being unified at WrestleMania 27. If the rumors true, I wouldn’t be surprise if we saw a big cut of talent from the roster. If that does happen and they are going to cut any Divas from the roster, I would cut the Bella Twins, Rosa, and Kelly Kelly. Yeah, I know have in for Kelly Kelly but if she get her own wrestling instead of copying someone then it would a different story. Well, either this will improve the Divas division or sent in to hell in hand basket.

Far as who will win at Night of Champions; I’m picking Michelle McCool even though I personally don’t like her.

  15. gailfan: yeah, with that I agree. Especially thanks to the newcoming NXT girls.

Honestly I think that until the end of the year, Rosa Mendes will be released. Tiffany will also be released if she’s not cleared of the charges.
On RAW, unfortunately I only see them releasing Gail, which would be terrible.

  16. The promo work was just so boring that after I got happy about a unification match, they totally deadpanned what was a good idea.

    God I hope Melina wins.

  17. @Melanie

From what I have read they are going to unified all of the titles.

  18. “chrisP: maybe, but maybe not. Smackdown is low on Divas right now, so probably some RAW girls will travel to SD!”

It’s possible, but I doubt it. And if it’s anything like the Hart Dynasty’s reign, the unified champion will only appear on one show or the other, and the Divas on the other brand wiill have to do without title matches.

  19. i think they will keep both belts instead of creating 1 belt because layla is officail champ even on wwe.com it says layla is champ so i think they will just simply give michelle the diva title but why is michelle doing all the work and if they unify does that mean they can go on any brand because smackdown have no divas?

  20. In regards to unifying the titles, it could work if the champion actually appears on both shows. If they do the Hart Dynasty thing (where if you’re a team on Smackdown right now, you’re not getting title shots because the Harts are only on Raw), it’s a bad idea.

  21. chrisP: That wouldn’t be a problem. I remember the time when the decent female wrestlers were on RAW, while most of the eye candy was on Smackdown.

They should keep the good Divas on SD! and the other ones in RAW for those gimmickly or 1 minute matches they like.

    SD! Roster:
    Beth
    Michelle
    Melina
    Gail
    Layla
    Natalya
    Tamina
    Jillian
    AJ Lee (after NXT)
    Naomi Night (after NXT)

    RAW roster:
    The Bellas
    Eve
    Alicia
    Maryse
    Kelly
    Rosa
    Tiffany
    Aksana (after NXT)
    Liviana (after NXT)

  22. Seeing/Hearing the word unify makes my head hurt. This is such a bad idea. The creaters think that just because there unifying the titles everyone will be so excited but from the crowd last night they didnt seem excited. If melina wins the belt then that is good we can see her go from smackdown to RAW but….since WWE love lay-cool so much they might give them the belt so they have an excuse to go on both rosters, oh please lord make the creators change there mind. Why ruin everything?! Why not have a diva trade with Gail & Jillian to SD. The last thing i want WWE to do is create another title unifying it as both the womens and divas title, just leave both the belts alone. This match will suck so bad w/ lumberjacks. There has never been a good lumberjack match in history for the divas they all were decent or bad.

I wont watch RAW until everything goes back to normal ill just watch NXT divas and since i dont watch sd anymore because of lay-cool ..literally. So TNA & NXT & FCW FTW!

*****2O1O = The Worst Year Ever In Womens Wrestling History. *****

    R.I.P Golden Era <33

  23. “chrisP: That wouldn’t be a problem. I remember the time when the decent female wrestlers were on RAW, while most of the eye candy was on Smackdown.”

The only distinction WWE makes between Divas is who the company really likes. There’s the pushed Divas, then there’s everyone else. In-ring wise, WWE makes no distinction.

  24. @anna_nattie-rules

-_- Switch layla with alicia. Alicia can put good matches on Smackdown than Layla and Eve as well. Tamina is still very green in the ring so switch her with Eve. There you have all divas who need alot of more work on RAW and the best divas on Smackdown. Tiffany is much aggressive and to good for RAW she deserves to be on Smackdown going against naomi & alicia.

  25. I was disappointed in the match as well. Why even have them wrestle? What was Eve’s purpose in the match, if she wasn’t going to get involved? What was the purpose of the matcg? Was it to show if LayCool is distracted you can only win then? Was it a revenge match for SummerSlam? I’d prefer a 2 to 3 minute segment (backstage or in the ring) that that short purposeless match.

The idea of all the Divas uniting to dislike LayCool was great. I have a feeling that the divas won’t be involved as much. The only diva I see interacting much is KellyKelly.

I wonder who Melina will fight. I didn’t watch NOC’09. I have heard the WWE wasn’t too happy with Melina and Michelle wrestling like (or better than) the men. So it could be and I HOPE and PRAY that it will be Layla vs Melina. Layla is the official Women’s Champion. Though this an event where its champ vs a non-champ as well EVERY championship on the line. And knowing the WWE, it’ll be Melina vs Michelle. Which sucks because I hate to see Layla (whether Melina or Michelle wins) lose her title without getting a decent title reign or getting pinned herself.

When this match happens where will Layla or Michelle be? Will one of them have to take part as one of the LumberJILLS at ringside? Will one of them be on the apron (ala NXT)? That’ll be interesting.

I do have a feeling that LayCool will find a way to make it a Handicap LumberJILL match. Which I can also see Vickie adding only Melina and Layla have to be pinned (not Michelle) in order to win. Basically screwing Melina’s chances of winning or so we think.

I’m am not too happy with WWE not letting SES acknowledge Serena’s absence. I am not getting too mad. They could (probably won’t) bring her up on Smackdown.

Them not acknowledging Luna really pissed me off.

What I did like about the show is how they are building up Wade Barrett. My husband Randy did good a jobbing to him as well. Oh and Super Cena got pinned by J.Gabe. WHAT A SHOCKER!

The show was boring and disappointing with a few exceptations.

I hate how the WWE are unifying a lot of titles, though this is still to be rumored.

Well there is nothing we fans can do but watch, complain and voice our opinions.

  26. LaceyVonErichFan needs to start watching some SHIMMER, WSU, PWWA and ACW. Stat.

If you believe that “2O1O = The Worst Year Ever In Womens Wrestling History”, you haven’t watched Tomoka Nakagawa v Ayumi Kurihara or Cheerleader Melissa v Ayako Hamada.

  27. I think that WWE is in the process of starting fresh with their divas division. Their first step is to create the title unification match. Then their second step is going to release a few of the divas (most likely rosa, bellas, gail, jillian, tamina & maybe kelly & tiffany).

  28. LVE: I put those who you mentioned on RAW, simply because they also need someone slightly decent. I want Layla to feud with Michelle and Tamina to feud more with Natalya and maybe Beth, so that’s why I put them on SD!

  29. I’m with Melanie in that all the belts should be unified (world title, secondary, tag, women’s). This would actually make room for another midcard belt to be developed akin to the hardcore or cruiserweight (although neither of them should come back).

  30. The golden era of women’s wrestling was when was when all the brands were mixed right? Then it still had talent from it (Trish, Lita, Molly) who helped extend the awesomeness onto just RAW. With the unification, could we see the golden days return? I’d sure like to think so. Although people will no doubt lose their jobs on the way, I don’t see Rosa or Brie and Nikki really missing the business, it’s not like they do much wrestling as it is.

And yeah, the reports state that WWE will be unifying the belts of all the divisions, and in terms of Smackdown!’s divisions, this is a good move, yet that’s only because RAW’s is crowded. Two divisions can work, and so can 1, I just seems that WWE feel that one is easier to handle.

  31. @leeburton i think she means it was the worst year for WWE & TNA b’cos let’s face it, nothing can beat releasing Awesome Kong, Mickie James, Serena, Roxxi etc. & TNA used to be amazing with all their hardcore matches.. we’ve only seen 1 in 2010 :/

  32. @leeburton

But im talking about in general like FCW, OVW, TNA, WWE. Not shimmer nor WSU but they kind have been lacking in matches not better than last year’s. Mickie released, Melina injured , beth as well, KO’s lacking in good matches.,etc.

    @Anna_Nattie_rules

True but layla is the kind of diva who would be afraid of divas like beth, etc, because that is how WWE build her character.

    @Ladiicurves

Yes that was the issue melina/michelle was voted best match of the night at NOC espicially from reviews on youtube those matches are the one’s we want to see in the new era and not Layla vs Kelly. Michelle vs Melina was better than half of the matches from back in the golden era and main events. They did risky moves and had great ability, sometimes when i see tht match it makes me tear because of how amazing they did and how we might never see that again.

  33. @xAzureSkye

    Yes that’s what i mean.

  34. & also Melanie, apparently WWE are unifying ALL the title belts & supposedly the main event at Wrestlemania XXVII is them unifying the WWE & World Heavyweight Championship.. i wish if they did do that then they would bring in like a championship that Divas & Superstars can compete for

  35. @Ana_Nattie_rules

I get what you are saying. The divas/women shouldn’t just wrestle for the titles. It doesn’t take a title match to make a good match.

But to say why two belts (Womens and Divas) is like saying why two belts for the men (Heavyweight and World) or (IC and US) and so on. The belts give each brand something to fight for. It gives a chance to prove they can be a champion.

I have said many times I would like to see a non-title feud or a feud between the women that are not champions.

But if the WWE didn’t care much for the divison with both titles. Do think they would care for them much with one title? I would like for the WWE to do as you said above, but I don’t think that will happen.

Unifying the belts (all of them, not just the Divas and Womens) is a good and bad thing. If they don’t go the HD route. It will open up more feuds, but its still too many on the roster for that. A lot people will get cut and watch it won’t the people we want to see go.

  36. Gotta love how they are just burying the hell outta both Fox and Eve since Melina returned. BULL FUCKING SHIT!

  37. Confronting Melina with a dose of their infamously candid “real talk,” Lay-Cool accused the Diva of being “forgettable,” proposing a Championship Unification Match at Night of Champions to determine the most deserving titleholder in the Divas division. Either Michelle or Layla will battle Melina, and the winner will leave Night of Champions with both the Women’s and the Divas Championships, unifying the titles for the first time in history.

I also read that they are planning on merging/unifying all the titles in the upcoming year, which would keep things easier to follow though I don’t really like the idea.

  38. @LaceyVonErichFan

I had to work that day. I was pissed I missed it.

I miss the golden era. I miss when they cared for the division. The Mixed Tag matches and the women fighting men. They didn’t care if the women wrestled better than men. (Lita/Trish vs Christian/Jericho). Those were the days.

  39. With the WWE rumored to be unifying all the titles, I have a feeling the new belt is already made. All of them may have been made already or at least a few. I bet the womens/diva unified will debut a lot quicker than the new tag tag belts did.

I honestly can’t see Melina (if she wins) carrying the Diva’s belt along with the broken Women’s belt around. I have a feeling they were working on the new belt concept when LayCool broke it. I wonder what the new belt will look like. I PRAY NO PINK!

I do hope with (or if) unifying all the titles they’ll bring in a few new ones. Maybe a Women’s Tag Team Belt. I will keep some of the divas from being released and open up new feuds.

    Women’s/Diva’s Tag Teams:
    Gail and Jillian
    The Bella Twins
LayCool (if they don’t split up/Michelle out the hunt)
Tamina and Nattie (since they scraped HD vs Usos)
    Tiffany and KellyKelly
    Eve and Alicia (maybe)

  40. It’ll not I. (my bad)

  41. well i hope melina win i dont michelle to make history……… again and why wwe why??

  42. @LadiiiCurves

The last time we had an inter – gender match was technically beth vs santino. But if WWE do bring isis to the main roster when she is ready then we will most likely see her go against the men.

Them unifying all the titles is making the end of history to me it seems stupid. Why change the titles by unifiying them they honestly think we want to see all the titles be unified meaning to 10 more releases or so.

  43. i wld like the following weeks to lead to tensions between laycool and it then becomes a triple threat lumberjack match becos i wonder why they didnt specify which laycool member melina wld face?

  44. I guess some of you remember the “golden era” differently from how I remembered it. It was back in that era when some of the divas would often disappear for months never to be seen again until the WWE is in their hometown. Girls like Jackie, Ivory, Molly, Gail, Jazz and Terri and even Victoria. If you’re not Trish or Lita, or their challenger (if they’re not facing each other) then you’re out of luck. They’d be lucky if they remember to put them in a Sunday Night Heat match or as a random partner to a random tag match. The introduction of a secondary title IMO actually made the divas a lot more visible and more competetive than the previous eras. There was time when we dont even get a match on any of the shows or even an appearance (not counting Chyna) by a diva. I hope I’m wrong but if history is any indication…

  45. of course, i don’t like the idea of a title unification, but the segment was nice.

i didn’t like how the diva roster were all together against lay-cool, though. perhaps it would’ve worked better if lay-cool had bullied a few of the divas they haven’t yet had any contact with backstage beforehand. like, why does tamina dislike them? or the bellas? jillian? rosa disliking them after training the last few months to join them is odd, too. also, it looks like she’s a heel again! boo!

  46. you’re totally correct, mojodoom. i would probably prefer if they went back to that format of us not seeing everybody every week and instead concentrated fully on a select few at a time. even though it’s nice catching glimpses of the bellas or alicia, etc, backstage.. it gets a bit pointless and comes across desperate in a “we must get everybody on tv!” sense.

  47. i would like 2 c the other member of lay-cool cost the 1 member who is wrestling the match and have melina win keep the belt and feud with alicia for 2 or 3 months then she should loose it 2 layla and michelle an layla will feud over it

  48. You know sometimes change is good! Maybe this could be for the better. Though I somewhat doubt it.

I can only pray that is to start over with the divas/women. Seperate the women from the divas and every now and then mixed them up and dabble into each others division.

Not all of the women on the roster should be champions, just yet. A lot of them needs more training. Some just can’t wrestle.

I do miss the fun gimmick matches. Which is where the Divas shined. Notice I said “Diva’s” not Women. I’m tried of the bikini/beach gimmick matches. What happened to the real gimmick matches.

    Pillow Fights
Holiday Themed Matches (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christimas and so on)
    The Pudding Matches
    Mud Matches
    Arm Wrestling
    and so on…

Those are the match the Divas can do and excel at, as well as non-gimmick matches.

Leave the wrestling to the ones who can actually wrestle and put on a good match.

Unifying the titles could be good if done right and if they bring in a Tag Team belt for the girls.

  49. So, I’m confused. Is there going to be one title or is there going to be 2 titles and a tag team that holds them?

  50. WWe is unifying all the titles.
