Raw Redux (September 6th, 2010): The ‘Undefined’ Champion of Divas

Divas Champion, Melina has to be on cloud nine after single-handedly defeating BFF champions, Lay-Cool last week in a tag team match on Raw. What Melina didn’t expect is that she had to defend her title the very week, despite having a unification match at Night of Champions in a few weeks time. Watch below as Melina takes on the woman she defeated for the Divas Championship at SummerSlam, Alicia Fox:

Melina makes her way out to the ring first and poses for the fans in her usual fashion. Out next is her challenger Alicia, who apparently has something to say. Alicia informs Melina that she will not be competing at Night of Champions. Alicia goes on to say that she will become the ‘undefined champion of Divas’. Hey Alicia, ‘Undefined’, ‘Undisputed’ and ‘Unified’ do NOT mean the same thing. I guess we won’t be seeing Ms. Fox on the mic again anytime soon.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Alicia follows up by saying she has more Twitter followers than Melina and Lay-Cool combined. I have no idea how Alicia would know this since she has probably never logged into her Twitter account.

After Alicia finishes the referee calls for the bell and our match is underway. The Divas start things off with a lockup, which Melina gets the best of, pushing Alicia into the corner. Melina breaks clean, but Alicia gets frustrated and shoves the champ. Looking to get the jump on her opponent Alicia comes charging, but is leveled with a back body drop, followed by a forearm and a split-legged Yakuza kick, sending Alicia tumbling out of the ring.

With the match not going her way, Alicia decides she’s leaving, but Melina isn’t having any of that. The champion grabs Alicia by the hair and brings her back in the ring the hard way. As Melina tries to climb in the ring, Alicia takes advantage of the opening and goes for an elbow drop. Unfortunately for Alicia, Melina sees it coming and slides back out the ring, causing Alicia to smash her elbow on the canvas.

While Alicia is still reeling, Melina slaps her across the face before hitting a kick to the gut and a top rope crossbody for a near fall. Melina tries to stay on top of ‘The Foxy One’, but Alicia takes he down with a drop toe hold, sending her throat first into the ropes.

Now in control, Alicia starts taking it to Melina with kicks and clubbing blows to the back. Alicia charges at Melina for a clothesline but Melina evade with the Matrix and lands a kick in the gut and follows up with a flurry of strikes.

Alicia manages to reverse an Irish Whip and charges Melina in the corner, but Melina jumps up and into position for the Last Call. Luckily, Alicia has Melina scouted and flips her over the top rope and onto the apron. Alicia grabs Melina by the hair and drags her into the middle of the ring, but Melina lands a kick to the head, sending Alicia into the ropes. Before Alicia can recover Melina hit the Sunset Split for the win.

This was probably the best match that Alicia and Melina have had since their Smackdown days. As we said on last night’s Post-Raw Show, Alicia and Melina Pre-Summerslam and Summerslam matches left a lot to be desired and this match was a lot more enjoyable than those two matches.

Unfortunately, this match won’t be known for it’s ring work, but for the epic fail Alicia made in her promo. Most of it was decent, but that flub at the beginning overshadowed the entire promo. I guess WWE will be making the Divas mute again.

Also making an appearance was Diva Dirt’s Sexiest Diva of 2010, Maryse. Check out the segment below:

I haven’t been the biggest fan of the Maryse and Teddy combo, but I have to admit: it’s really starting to rub off on me. As we’ve said countless times before, Maryse shines most when in a non-wrestling role and it shows here. Fifty percent of this promo was in a foreign tongue and I still enjoyed it. Kudos to Teddy as well. It seems he has finally gotten comfortable with this pairing and it shows. I don’t feel like Maryse is overpowering him so much anymore. With a good storyline and a bit of fine-tuning, I feel like these two could truly be a power couple in WWE.

All in all, I enjoyed the Divas on this week’s Raw. We got a decent title match, closure on the Melina/Alicia feud and a potential new storyline with Maryse and Teddy. In my opinion, this week’s show blew that crap they called a 900th Episode Spectacular out of the water. Let’s just hope that Raw can keep up the good work at least until we crown our ‘undefined’ champion of Divas.

To be honest, I’ve given my opinion, I haven’t gone out with my clap-o-meter and measured fan support, but in terms of WWE, Mihchelle is over – why has she constantly been involved in storylines? If you think Layla pinning Melina one time turned her into Women’s Champion then that’s LOLworthy in itself. I didn’t say I disliked her, if you bothered to read the whole of my argument I said I like Melina, I just hate how she is used to look like Superwoman all the time, same goes for you, just because you like her don’t jump on anyone’s back that’s opinion differentiates on its own. This place is for sharing opinion, not conforming to your own ideas.

Anyway Steven great write up, would’ve liked it if Raw somehow included the Lumberjills a bit more, rather than just being there because everyone hates LayCool, but then again I suppose Melina needs to showcase herself before the match as no doubt LayCool (or probably Layla) will this week.

People really need to stop using wrestler lingo because you usually come off looking stupid and, “green,” all pun intended. :)

  • seasons-of-love

Michelle wasn’t over. If you can’t see that then I dunno what to say.

Two times. And it made her seem semi-credible, when she was down there with Eve and Maria a month or so before that.

I said your opinion was fine. I protested when you said she never puts anyone over and Michelle McCool had fan support. That’s just stupid.

    Hope you can grasp that.

  • seasons-of-love

‘Green’ isn’t exactly exclusive to wrestling, is it?

  • http://yahoo.com madslam2009

I know Melina is getting booked strongly but it doesnt make sense to have Jillian basically kick Melinas ass but Have the former champion job out

  • http://www.twitter.com/thewweuberfan TheWWEUberfan

Never said it was, did I?

  • FoxAxeKick

WOW,she messed up on a word and it overshadowed the WHOLE promo. They barely put her on the mic so she is gonna mess up. I dont care if she messed up one ONE word. That wont ruin the promo to me. Gosh little stuff i tell ya.

  • http://www.twitter.com/thewweuberfan TheWWEUberfan

    THANK YOU @ FoxAxeKick!

  • melina prez

the match was WAY better than summerslam and the week b4 and maryse vs aksana feud !!!!!!!!!!!!! i want it 2 happen !!!!!!!!!!!

  • LaceyVonErichFan

Agreed! Plus If alicia didnt mess up then she definely would be better than maryse at the mic and cutting promo’s. When she cut the promo few weeks ago when melina returned that was actually a better promo then what we usually get from the hottie Miz.

  • seasons-of-love

You made the implication when you put ‘green’ in inverted commas.

  • RedHotVixen

Of course we are all entitled to our own opinions, but there is nothing wrong with healthy debate. Why do so many people suddenly have a problem with her offence? Melina, like Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio and JoMo, is so popular because her in-ring style is different and exiting to watch. Its unreasonable to expect anyone to pull out a flawless performance evertime they step into the ring. As much fun as people appear to be having with their non-stop Melina bashing, keep in mind that she has had two career threatening injuries. Despite that, she still has the courage to step into the ring for our entertainment. We dont all have to like her, but can we just try to show a little bit of respect?

  • FoxAxeKick

Thank you for reminding me about that promo cause that was a good one!

  • http://www.twitter.com/thewweuberfan TheWWEUberfan

@LVEfan I still think that with the error Alicia’s promo was way better than any that Maryse has ever done! Haha

So I just watched the segment again and I loved EVERYTHING about it. I can’t stop laughing when Alicia exits the ring and the ref tells her to get back inside then she’s like “NO! I’M LEAVING!” ROFL.

  • unscripted & flawless

› as much as i love diva-dirt, you guys confuse me, lol..i think exploiting the “undefined” thing in the title for this redux as well as the post-raw show was just a joke, nothing meant to be “rawr she fucked up so we’re gonna bash her,” kind of thing, lol. either way, again, little things don’t mess up the big picture. i like melina, i love alicia fox – i’m not marking out when i say, it was nothing more than a squash match, but to be honest, once they said it was for the divas title .. i knew that no matter who her opponent was, they were going to lose, and lose bad. kelly & alicia seemed to be “thrown to the wolves,” if you will last week and this week for smackdown & raw to kind of get melina and michelle, as well as layla, out there. i wouldn’t be surprised if layla was facing rosa this friday, who knows?

  • RockinRed45Mvs

Oh my gosh i was couldn’t stop laughing when she said undefined and if it was me that had said that it would’ve been hard not to break character or forget what to say. Other than that this was a pretty good match and a nice segment with Maryse.

What is up with these people not knowing their numbers and rules? Khali went over the top rope (first time i agree with Cole), they kept on saying it was a six-pack challenge even though its five, and i guess there are 6 rookie divas even thought we don’t know who it’s gonna be.

Melina and Fox can not work together! They have never even had a half decent match imo the last good match Fox has had was MITB with Eve.

  • Looking Glass

Red Hot Vixen, you can’t use her ‘career threatening injuries’ as an excuse, it’s something every wrestler goes through and knows there’s a risk to it. To be honest when Melina was heel and in her peak, she was good without trying to play this contortionist role of finding the most flexible way of doing a certain move. Plus ‘bashing’ seriously? I love the way anything that disagrees with the marks is ‘bashing’, it’s not like people are threatening her or going out of line, otherwise someone would’ve stepped in by now.

I think with Alicia, I agree she does seem forced, I just think she’s got a lot of personality in her, like I’ve seen her twice playfull poke Rosa in the ribs when they’ve tagged together, which seems quite playful for a heel, so I think it’s natural and that because she’s such a bubbly character its harder for her to pull off a heel role because it doesn’t suit her naturally. Nonetheless I love her as a heel, I did enjoy her with DJ Gabriel though.

  • http://twitter.com/RangerDeon RangerDeon

I’m thinking her twitter remark was just her character’s way of being a snob.

  • LaceyVonErichFan

Also its been said a bunch of times but it was hilarious when alicia said ‘no! Im leaving’ that made me feel a bit more compfortable with her and made her as funny as lay-cool’s segments are which is a really good thing, really builds up her WWE character alot more ‘can be bubbly but very aggressive as well’. I have to say Alicia Fox was a way better champion then melina was tonight even if she lost.

  • LaceyVonErichFan

I think what alicia meant by ‘undefined’ was unknown unified champion. Meaning that the champion is still not known and defined but the WWE universe.

  • Resi

Ive said it before and ill say it again. I dont understand why the WWE is all up on Alicia. Shes not bad in the ring, but shes not great, shes not terrible on the mic, but again shes not great. I like the fierce beyonce thing shes doing, but she hasnt taken advantage of the time given to her by developing her character for the universe.

  • LaceyVonErichFan

    @ Resi

What time? Everything is scripted and wroten down on what she’s suppose to say and would pretty much get in a bit of trouble if she said a few extra things. She is developing her character very well and paced. Also most of the time she’s in the ring she is either being dominated by Gail, Natalya or Melina and isnt able to show her character while be thrown out the ring. Alicia shows her personality in matches when she is able to control it like her against kelly & eve matches.

  • MaxPower

I think the reason she said ‘undefined’ is because she probably thought one word(unified or undisputed) but ended up saying another & just got tongue tied.

  • xJonFer12494x

i hate how they(wwe), thinks that all the fans want is some superwoman. they did it with trish, it worked but got stale at the end. just like trish, melina is a natural heel. both do better as heels. i just dislike melina for the fact that she’s another trish staratus being forced down our troats. i mean sure theyre pretty entertaining, but can they wrestle realy well? no. trish was carried throughout her career, and melina has everyone jobb to her, as if it’s forbidden, to beat melina. melina also reminds me of candice, as they are notorious for suffering multiple, repeating injuries. theyre like male versions of batista and john cena. but i really don’t need another trish stratus. i mean they even made melina steal the matrix from trish!

and about alicias “flub”, i really dont see the big deal. in a way it sorta makes sense. currently the future of the championship is undefined. noone ven knows what the actual name will be. but i do think that this was the best match on raw in a while.

wow, longest post ever 4 me. sorry about its length, but i just had to get some things off my chest.
