Welcome to The Five to Watch 2010! Diva Dirt is always on the look-out for bright, young talent breaking into the scene in women’s wrestling. Always with a finger on the pulse of up and coming talent, over the next week, we will bring to you the five talents we that we feel could be breakout stars in the future. Meet the Class of 2010…
ATHENA
Who is she?
22-year old Athena has been making quite a name for herself in the past few years. Working mostly out of the Texas area, Athena has quickly become one of the fastest rising stars on the independent scene. Trained by Skandor Akbar, a veteran in the business, Athena has the ring skills to back up her cocky (and sometimes immature) attitude. Although she only has three years under her belt as a pro, Athena has proven she can mix it up with some of the best in the business. Most notably, Athena took on MsChif in the first round of Anarchy Championship Wrestling’s 2010 American Joshi Queen of Queens tournament in a surprisingly even match.
Her story so far…
Since making her pro wrestling debut three years ago, Athena has had some very impressive matches against the likes of Malia Hosaka, Jessica James and MsChif. She also managed to defeat Rachel Summerlyn earlier this year for the ACW American Joshi Title but lost it back to her two weeks later. Speaking of championships, Athena (under the name Trouble) is also the current Women’s Champion in PWA, which is run by former WWE Superstar, Booker T. Athena made her debut at SHIMMER Women Athletes last week and despite being announced as a pre-show talent, was featured on three of the four volumes taped, impressing many in the process. No doubt, Athena will be part of future SHIMMER shows, bringing her to an even wider audience.

Why we chose her…
We chose Athena for ‘Five to Watch 2010′ because she has an abundance of potential. Not only is she talented in the ring — she has put on matches in her short career that rival most matches we see on television each week — but she also has a great look that would definitely fit WWE’s mould. Not to mention, on a more superficial note, she also falls into Diva Dirt‘s category of ‘ring gear love’! Her unique style of ring attire looks far more professional than girls on TV and sits up there with the likes of Michelle McCool and Maryse. At the rate Athena is progressing, it’s only a matter of time before we see her make her mark in one of the mainstream promotions.

I knew she would be on the list. She is good and everyone here has been raving about her. So this comes as no surprise.
Good pick Diva Dirt! First time I see the girl. She’s very athletic and I could see her in WWE someday. Can’t wait for the next four ladies! Oh! And her theme song lolz.

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of her before. She’s a great wrestler with tons of potential. I wish her the best in anything she wants to do.
She’s pretty but tbh im not into thick chicks :x and she’s not blonde so she wouldn’t fit the model mold.. Would love to see her in TNA
@Tripp not all WWE Divas are blonde. Bellas, Alicia Fox, Tamina, Layla, Eve, NXT Divas ..

I definetly see her in the WWE after they lower there model standards, she has the body type of Natalya & Beth also she keeps changing her looks and im saying her most recent one she looks like she is ready for WWE but she would fit so perfectly in TNA but her style is something i would enjoy watching in the WWE Ring.
Great choice. I’d go so far as to say, after seeing the tape, her match with MsChif on ACW Queen of Queens pretty much destroys any TV match in my recent memory. She’s highly skilled, has an engaging personality, awesome gimmick, and really terrrific gear. I hope to see more of her in SHIMMER and see branch out to Femmes Fatales, WSU, JAPW, etc.
She earns the raves. I watched that Queen of Queens match earlier this evening, and yes it is excellent. She’ll be a major contender before long.
Her and Mia Yim show a lot of athleticism and spunk. Love her moveset, the mixture of flashy stuff and a power-based arsenal.
Pretty much what JohnHype said. I didn’t see any of her work before shimmer and she completely blew me away. Matter of Fact, I just recieved the ACW Queen of Queens dvd through the mail today.
I love this girl. I’ve been watching her matches on Youtube since my aunt told me about her. I think she is awesome.
Athena is a superb choice. She was tremendous at SHIMMER — definitely the rookie-of-the-tapings. She stepped into the main program as if she had always belonged there. I was only disappointed that she did not get to take on Mia Yim @ SHIMMER — I thought that would be a fun match between to serious new talents. I agree with JohnHype that her gear is top drawer — especially the new white kit.
WHAT DID I TELL YA’LL? ATHENA IS INDEED ONE TO WATCH. FROM THE MOMENT I LAYED EYES ON HER MONTHS PRIOR TO THE JOSHI TOURNAMENT, THIS GIRL IS GOING PLACES. AND LOOK AT HER NOW! PROUD OF YOU, ATHENA! SHE IS INDEED THE GODDESS OF WRESTLING, AND HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE!

I’ve seen her on one occasion before. She can be very very very good in the future.
At first I thought Athena was on the FCW developmental deal with the WWE then I realized that it was something else but I really would like to see Athena in the WWE espically in match against Beth Phoenix. But if its possible for that to happen.
