Diva Dirt to Honor Trish Stratus with First Ever ‘Legacy Award’

Diva Dirt has launched its very own award and we’re very excited to honor the all-time Diva great, Trish Stratus as the first ever recipient! Full details below:

Diva-Dirt.com (Diva Dirt) is extremely pleased to announce today the launch of the ‘Diva Dirt Legacy Award’ with multi-time WWE Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus, set to be honored as the first recipient.

The annual ‘Legacy Award’ will honor the career achievements of select talented and exceptional female professional wrestlers.

“This award is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for the years of entertainment that these women have provided fans across the world,” said Diva Dirt’s Editor-in-Chief, Melanie Rob. “Women’s wrestling may be a niche, but these women work just as hard as male wrestlers and the sacrifices they make for our enjoyment, such as injuries, are real. This is our salute to you.”

The first recipient of the ‘Legacy Award’ is a woman who is synonymous with women’s wrestling. A seven-time WWE Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus broke barriers for women in the wrestling industry during her tenure with WWE from 2000 through to 2006. Not relying solely on her obvious beauty, Stratus matched her looks with a strong in-ring repertoire, charming wit and personality, as well as a shrewd business sense. Her countless accomplishments include a record-breaking seven reigns as Women’s Champion, being voted WWE’s ‘Babe of the Year’ by the fans three years in a row, and receiving the highly acclaimed ‘Diva of the Decade’ award. Throughout her career, Stratus participated in numerous high-profile matches and storylines, including a Women’s Championship match as the main-event on Raw, as well as multiple WrestleMania matches.

“There is no one that I can think of more suited to be our first ‘Legacy Award’ winner than Trish. She is a benchmark for women in this industry and her popularity to this day remains unrivaled. Trish is one of the women responsible for enticing a new generation of fans to enjoy female wrestling, even inspiring some of the female wrestlers we see on television today. We are honored to present this award to Trish,” added Rob.

On the award, Trish says, ”I feel very blessed to be recognized by Diva Dirt for my achievements in the WWE. Growing up as a wrestling fan, it was truly a dream come true to end up doing something that I was passionate about for a living. It is a great honour to be recognized by a website that proudly supports women’s wrestling, and highlights the importance of female contributions in a male-dominated industry.”

The ‘Legacy Award’ is being presented in conjunction with the Female Fight League (FFL), founded in 2010 by Jason Deadrich, the FFL is an organization that unites all-female promotions, as well as fans, to bring respect and exposure to professional female wrestling.

Jason says, “It is with great honor that the Female Fight League works alongside Diva Dirt to present this award to Trish Stratus.  There is no other female professional wrestler that deserves this award more. Trish is a wonderful role model and someone who has clearly proven herself in the wrestling business.”

Because she is Trish Stratus. Like her or hate her, overrated or not, she is definitely the overall package for a Diva. Good with the mic, credible wrestler, a great heel/face, smexy like hell & well-liked backstage.

  • BillyGP

@joeyesrojo Trish ruined the women division? HOW? She help redefine the division. Plus was she really the first model turned wrestler wasnt Sable a model? Or April Hunter?

  • BillyGP

    @Spideywebby Well said i agree 100%

  • redsoul

    BillyGP

Kelly is popular, but that doesn´t make her a great wrestler.it´s my opinion like you and others have their own,but portraying Trish like that is really overating her.she´s ONE of the most, not THE MOST.

  • Taylor

    redsoul,

You do realize this is a post to award and congratulate a Diva who many agree has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is now and has accomplished more in her six-year tenure than others—male or female—have in their 20-plus year careers? There’s no limit to show support for her if it’s a post about her. So I don’t quite understand your reasoning.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/randomvidsinc joeyesrojo

@BillyGP She got roped in with everything Lita, Victoria, and Molly were doing. Trish was carried and packaged by WWE. She’s was nothing more than a female Cena. Four moves, too many fans, and repetitive mic skills. And after Trish, WWE thought they could just replicate the process and thus Trish ushered in the “Model Era”. I’ve went from Victoria Vs Lita in a cage to Eve Vs Brie Bella in a who can do the most one-legged dropkicks contest.

    Taylor

this is a post about a former Diva receiving an award.some may show their joy and support about it,others can disagree and think the opposite(not going over certain limits,of course).

  • ichiban

@redsoul Do you honestly not know what the word arguably means?

Anyway to say Alundra Blaze could be as recognisable as Trish Stratus is laughable. Blaze is the US at least was a midcard star mostly when wrestling was in a serious decline. Trish was a featured star in and out of the ring during one of Wrestling’s hottest periods. The is no comparsion.

Trish is a slam dunk first award winner as she has garners high marks in each of categories the award looks at. She is a credit to Womens wrestling and she doesnt have the baggage that some other candidates may have.

  • ichiban

@joeyesrojo Congrats on the strangest post Ive read on this site (some doing!)

  • http://Twitter.com/badbitchleah Leah Del Rey

Trish truly deserve this award other divas will get their chance at the award.

How did Trish set women’s wrestling back?

  • ichiban

@Leah Del Rey She kept Nicole Bass, Chyna, Kat and Harvina down. lol

Not like she elevated the womens division to degree that it headlined Raw or anything…

  • redsoul

    ichiban

laughable or not,it´s my opinion.i find other things that were said here more laughable but i will keep it to myself…
i find her the female version of John Cena, with all the good and bad things that people find in him.

  • Taylor

    redsoul,

The post is about more than just “receiving an award”—Trish has plenty. It’s about showing appreciation for all that she accomplished. If you feel that’s the same as “receiving an award,” that’s your prerogative. However, to some it means more than just that.

I’m glad that you understand the first point I made about staying within limits.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/randomvidsinc joeyesrojo

@ichiban I believe Lita’s been the one to main event RAW twice. And I’m sorry if my post is strange to you, I can use smaller words if you’d like.

  • ichiban

@redsoul it is laughable as anyone with a fully functioning brain would think the same thing.

What was the higest rated segment or most bought PPV Blaze was in? Compare that with Trish.
How many times has Blaze been on national Pro Wrestling TV in say the last 10 years? Compare that with Trish.

How can you have an opinion with something as objective as that?

  • ichiban

@joeyesrojo Im not talking about Lita. It is not a matter of using small words it is you not understand the business or the context of the time.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/randomvidsinc joeyesrojo

@ichiban I mentioned Lita because you seem to think it was just Trish in that main event. And I don’t need to understand what you think you know about the wrestling business nor do I have the time to care. Trish to me is in the same category as Candice Michelle. Same person.

  • redsoul

@redsoul it is laughable as anyone with a fully functioning brain would think the same thing.

ichiban,it was nice to talk to you.you won this arguement, you really “kill” me.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/randomvidsinc joeyesrojo

“ichiban,it was nice to talk to you.you won this arguement, you really “kill” me.”

    @redsoul Agreed.

  • Anon.

Give me a break, Lita deserved this way more and I think everyone knows that deep down.

  • ichiban

@joeyesrojo I didnt say that. lol@you continuing your profoundly dumb points which only serve to ruin any kind of credibility you have.

@redsoul I take it that the comparsion I asked you to take didnt bare out, huh?

  • ichiban

@Anon You make a very strong case and youve managed to completely change my opinion. Thought provoking post!

  • http://www.freewebs.com/randomvidsinc joeyesrojo

@ichiban And I quote : “Not like she elevated the womens division to degree that it headlined Raw or anything…”

Which I replied and said Lita did that first.

You should really read your posts before you post them! And before you call my opinions dumb you should really just think about whether or not you have any room to talk.

  • ichiban

@joeyesrojo I was talking about Trish as this is Trish’s induction. I would have said the same thing about Lita if this was Lita’s induction but it is not. Do you follow?

Go back to making laughable troll posts that only highlight the fact that there is litte legitmate criticism you can level at Trish hence her being awarded this.

  • redsoul

ichiban,i´ve already congratulate you for winning this arguement.do you want a medal?
