Monday’s Slammy Awards special episode of Raw will see a Divas battle royal to determine who wins the ‘Diva of the Year’ Slammy.
Elsewhere, Beth Phoenix eliminating Great Khali from the Royal Rumble match in January and Mae Young defeating Lay-Cool on ‘Old School’ Raw are both nominated for ‘Knucklehead Moment of the Year’.

Thoughts: Although the Slammys mean very little in terms of actual recognition (they are storyline devices), WWE did a great job in giving it to Beth in 2008 and incorporating into her character and making her seem that much more important. Yet this year as well as last year are pretty much a joke. The Slammy could be used to enhance storylines as it did with Beth, but nope.

i mean they could use this to reestablish Melina as a threat in a part of her heel turn. it may not be a joke since WWE will be booking the match they can give it to who they want to win it

Shouldn’t the Slammy be an award given to a diva for work done in an entire year? Ugh. Yet another display of the WWE’s penchant for undervaluing the women in the business. How pathetic. I feel so sorry for the Divas. It is true that they may be getting paid more than women at Shimmer but at least those women are respected by their own employers.

Way to go, WWE *claps slowly*… And now another glorified beauty pageant for the Divas. First NXT, now this. What a damn shame. Beth Phoenix will always be true (and final) Diva of the Year. This battle royal better have a good winner. I suppose I can root for Layla, Beth, or Melina.
I think I’ve come to the conclusion that when it comes to Divas, WWE doesn’t give a flying fudge popsicle about our votes. Whether it’s by fixing our votes or simply voting in our place for who’s the prettiest o_O.
I guess this means Laycool will be the self-proclaimed co-Diva of the Year Slammy winners. I’d be disappointed, since I think their gimmick has gotten ridiculously stale, but at least they’ve worked hard all year. *sigh*
I think it should go to Natalya, since she’s had such a break out year. On the other hand, I’d also love see them do an angle where Melina somehow pulls out the win in a slightly heel-ish way.

They do give the win to whoever legitimately wins the vote, then they will push whoever they want. That’s why Maria won Diva of the Year, only for WWE to quickly ignore it and fire her two months later. The same thing is happening with Kaval as WWE clearly wanted Alex Riley to win NXT, but the fans voted for Kaval.
Melina could get this, do a slow mesh from a babyface speech to a heel speech. I would very much like to see that happen.
Another good thing here is that we will see if WWE actually has any ideas of bringing Naomi, Aksana, Maxine & AJ to the main roster because if they do, they will be put in this battle royal as it is an all diva one. I think AJ & Naomi will be in it.

and to be honest i think winning a battle royal to become diva of the year can do a lot more for a diva (especially a heel) then just being awarded it. think about it like this if fans voted for it it would 100% be given to a face diva because the wwe universe would never vote for a heel.

and @chrisP im not so sure because while Alex Riley has been in the angle with the miz all of the matches he’s been in so far have been squashes where he lost in less then a minute kaval has at least been competitive. kaval is playing out like it is because he’s a big indy talent WWE always shits on their indy talent in the beginning look at how CM Punk started out if kaval fights through it he could become a really big star especially since the crowd loves him. i just hope his injury isnt that severe

I can’t think of any logical argument for Kaval being in a better position than Alex Riley right now. One is partnered with the WWE champion and the other is having to pay for daring to win NXT.

I don’t see the big deal in if Laycool was to win the battle royal. Some users sound upset as if Laycool aren’t worthy nominations for Diva of the Year, anyway. No matter who wins it, has anyone really had a better year than Laycool? They’ve been everywhere and held the title(s) for months with seemingly never-ending reigns and pretty much dominated the majority of every face Diva both brands. Layla deserves it more than Michelle, though IMO. Michelle made history, but I feel Layla brings the “It” factor to Laycool and she improved more. Without Layla, I have a feeling Michelle mic skills would still suck. Layla kinda makes Michelle’s promos more interesting, IMHO.
…But I hate how WWE can make nominations for pretty much every other award EXCEPT the DOTY, one. I don’t know, just seems stupid. And whenever ALL the Divas are in the ring together, it’s never pretty and just look like a cluster mess. Not looking forward to that. I have a feeling Beth, Natalya, or Laycool will get this one. Not really expecting Melina to get it, especially seeing as if Natalya gets it it might add fire to Melina’s “slow” supposed heel turn.
i think this gonna be kinda kool, i love battle royals, and i wonder will any of the NXT girls debut in the battle royal and plus this will be Beth first match back, i like it, :)
Also, Sherri Shepherd is currently at the Tribute to the Troops, and she has pictures with Alicia, Maryse, Kaitlyn, Eve, Rosa, and Kelly, so i think there the only divas gonna be on Tribute to the Troops and also Eve and Rosa are gonna be on the View, cause they are taping segments for it, so i am really excited :)

Michelle McCool should win. She was screwed last year for the slammy.
WWE’s afraid of putting the Diva of the Year award to the public after Maria won it last year. She wasn’t being pushed at the time and was barely on TV. So instead, the promotion will work it so they get the winner they want.

That’s not true She legitimately won the fan vote. WWE didn’t pick her, which is why they had no problem firing their Diva of the Year two months later. If WWE had chosen the winner, she never would have won since they had no plans of her pushing her.

This is Kinda Random, But I think, Not at this show particularily, but sometime, Nikki Bella should complete her heel turn, Melina should complete her heel turn, and they should make an alliance.

They could give it to Beth, but only if they’re turning her heel. Otherwise there’s no reason to give her an award with potential storyline value.
Giving it to Nattie is overkill.
Giving it to Michelle or Layla is also overkill since Michelle’s been consistently pushed as a heel for…oh what, I don’t know…the past two years? And Layla is treated as her accessory.
Giving it to Melina is only a good idea if she’s going heel. Really the same reasons as Beth, although I think Beth would make a better heel, all things considered.
Anyone else is of dubious value as the winner, due to a void of fan interest along with no real space to fit them in.
If only Gail Kim #1, if only.
I feel like DOTY is going to go to a non-Laycool heel, only because the faces really don’t need the accolade storywise.
My two picks are Melina- to aid her heel turn, she could use her DOTY status as her right to challenge Nattie. After all, Melina could rationalize, DOTY is more important as it is an accolade covering a whole year, while Divas’ Champ is something that can be gone in three seconds.
and Maryse- her winning DOTY would definitely give her a reason to not only be justified in running down Ted, since she went out and won something big, but gives her an “in” to officially become an NXT Pro this season (she was trying to muscle in on Ted and Brodus’ pro-rookie relationship last week… her holding an award like DOTY would give her more momentum to continue muscling in).
I’m gonna hope for Nattie, Lay-Cool, Beth, and Melina as the remaining Divas, with Lay-Cool coming out on top after Melina blindsides Nattie, eliminating her and Nattie in the process. Melina brawls with Nattie on the outside, distracting Beth. Lay-Cool wins.

Well, IMO Divas team (like the bellas or Laycool) won’t win it. Since they’re team, and look at the past, if one member out, then a few minutes later, the rest will out too (like the bellas did).. But who knows? I think it’s between Melina, Nattie or Beth (beth is great at battle royal)..
*talking about battle royal, i’m kinda sick to remember that Melina was the first eliminated by Tamina in the 10 divas battle royal for Laycool’s title (Nattie won that match)
Melina’s gonna turn like Tara/Victoria did in 2004 when she snapped and took out Christy Hemme after the swimsuit contest where Natalya gets the award and then Melina takes her out and i hope uses the trophy as a weapon.

Will people please stop saying Maria won on a fixed vote contrary to belief she has a huge fanbase. It goes to show that you don’t need titles to have fans support you ie Torrie Wilson.
I don’t think Melina deserves to win however this could be a great oppertunity to have her turn. When she makes her speech, she could go all up herself and back to her Celebrity gimmick.
In my opinion, Layla deserves to win. Layla has been thrown into a huge storyline this year. Her whole gimmick as to being Michelle’s BFF has really made me a fan of her. She’s had to adapt to a whole new surrounding. She wasn’t doing much before Laycool became a gimmick and it must have been a huge change. She and Michelle work their asses off, sometimes they’ve made 3 appearences a week. Layla has also become one of the fastest Divas to improve this year, she’s doing really well and has a lot more to show. I wish her the best of luck in the future.
Gail Kim is the best worker in the WWE and deserves a belt after the abuse she’s taken after her return from TNA
I dont belive Melina should win either only because she has not done anything this year not her fault but she has’nt…..but i want either her or nataylya to win storyline wise
As long as Melina wins, I’ll be happy. But I REALLY want Gail to win so that people know that she’s still with the company, lol.
I read somewhere that Maria is going to be in a couple of horror movies. I can imagine her being the clueless girl that’ll be the first to get killed.
I have a feeling it will come down to Beth, Natalya, (maybe Melina) and LayCool. In the end Layla and Michelle are the only ones left standing. As they stare each other down, the crowd is getting a little hyped finally thinking they are gong to break up. That Michelle is going to turn on Layla and toss her out the ring. Showing her that she is the only true Diva. Oh no! LayCool are little too smart. They start laughing and embrace in a hug as they become the self-proclaimed Co”-Diva of the Year.
If they don’t win I willl be shocked. Hate ‘em or like ‘em LayCool have been the most active divas this year.
I don’t see LayCool breaking up just yet. they need to feud with Beth first.
I know at first I said I wanted Melina to win it, but in all honesty LayCool, IMO Layla, deserves it.
Putting my Michelle hate to the side for now. LayCool have been the most active divas and in the spotlight. If they or one of them doesn’t win the award I will be shocked. I would just rather them just GIVE it to LayCool instead of doing this Battle Royal. If the BR is used further a few storylines and bring in new feuds then I am fine with it.

My only problem with the DOTY Battle Royal is that half of the divas haven’t been relevant this year. The most used Divas have been LayCool, Beth, Nattie, Melina, Kelly Kelly, Maryse, Eve, Alicia and the Bellas.
Rosa, Kaitlyn, Gail Kim, Tamina shouldn’t be in this tournament at all. I love Gail, but be real.
I think WWE will make this award as a part of storyline. Since there are no voting in this award.. I have some predictions about who will win and what will happen next
1. Michelle or Layla
a. One of them win, then one of them come to the ring, celebrate together.. And claim one of them as “Self Proclaimed Co Diva of The Year.”
b. One of them win (consider that michelle win it), then Layla comes to celebrate it. But then michelle said that award is belong to her (NOT BOTH OF THEM) and throws her out of the ring. LayCool breaks up.
2. Nattie
Nattie wins, she celebrate it. Then the slow processed “Heel Melina” comes to the ring. Attack her and turn to heel.
3. Brie Bella
the tension between the bellas makes nikki jealous of Brie, then she attack her. Turn her to a heel..
4. Kaitlyn
If Kaitlyn wins, maybe vickie will come to the ring. Interrupt her speech and…. You know what will happen next..
5. Beth or Kelly
If one of them win it. i’m pretty sure that Laycool will be jealous, and it will raise the tensions…
