Now in 2011, she’s set to kick off her wrestling year with a bang this Saturday, facing Angel Orsini in a ‘Winner Take All’ ladder match on iPPV for the WSU World and All Guts, No Glory Championships.
We catch up with Mercedes to look back at her noteworthy 2010 and her plans for 2011. Mercedes also clarifies a report here on Diva Dirt last year about her heading to AAA in Mexico, and whether she’s at all interested in WWE Tough Enough.

Nice to see that WWE, reached out to women like Mercedes and Lizzy, it makes me wonder who else they reached out to, and it must look good, if they wanted her to try out, to me it seems like WWE already has a list of certain indy wrestlers that they want on tough enough lol because why would they reach out to somone days before the deadline.
good luck for her she is one hell of a strong competitor.some of her matches one of them was with mickie was epic it made me become fan of hers even more.despite i would love to see her on tv i hope she stays away from wwe as far as she could with the way they treat women with the bad quality of matches they well limit her badly.she should stick in the indies that were the best of the best there.
2nd women wrestler WWE approach. First Lizzy and Now Mercedes. Looks as though WWE really want to bring in real wrestlers for Tough Enough meaning we might actually get to see them sign a real wrestler again (:
@A.E
You know half of the time when WWE give us short matches they’re horrible because of the wrestlers, but WWE could easily entertain us with 2 minute matches if the wrestlers were at least decent. A 3 minute match between mercedes and natalya would at least be great. So, Mercedes should stay closer to WWE. If WWE never sign real wrestlers then we’ll never get hopes of them trying to change their division.
Reaching out to actual wrestlers and possibly signing them is great and all, but it’s how the creative team implements the wrestlers into interesting, time-invested feuds that counts. If the WWE officials are emphasizing strong wrestling talent and are pushing for actual wrestlers to apply for Tough Enough, then they should capitalize on this. I–and most of us, I’m sure–wouldn’t want Kong or any other credible wrestler to be utilized in the same way Gail Kim is.

i actually lost hopes on that pointless division for a while the division that lita and trish revolutionize the current wrestler most of them .made it disgrace .last night raw was a prof of it my only hope that with signing kong things well get better.
@Taylor i kinda agree with U stephanie and vince ruin that division cause of the lack of interest of women.and i am kinda hoping that they won’t misuse kong or put her on the subject of a fat joke like when they did with mickie and doing it with vickie.g.
I hope Mercedes goes to the WWE because it will pay her the best. Even if hurts my enjoyment as a fan, at least she will make real money and get world wide fame.
Does this mean she’s 100% losing on Saturday? Her reign as WSU Champion is the best reign in womens wrestling right now and she is the best womens champion. WSU is going to be hurt if she is going to WWE or AAA.
Mercedes is TOUGH ENOUGH great interview.
Good interview Steven.
Glad to see she applied for TE…I know WWE doesn’t seem to focus much on the divas now but with the recent signing of Kong and them reaching out to actual wrestlers for TE I think they might be trying to move in the right direction. I’m just hoping that they will give out 2 contracts instead of one like they did in the original format. It would be much better IMO if they had a male and female winner…instead of having them all compete for one. So right now Mercedes Martinez and Britani Knight have applied…are there any other big names that have sent in tapes?
@jmoe87, Annie Soical, Athena, toni the top, the and i think OVW’s epiphany, from what i can understand
and Mia Yim.
Really love this interview especially sense it’s with Mercedes and Steven. She has so much hope and that’s a beautiful thing. I understand her hesitation about the TE thing. Hopefully they’ll give her a chance she’s remarkable. We need more standouts versus crowd fillers, great job Steven.
i think it’s great that they’re going after women on the indies, but isn’t the whole point of tough enough to train people, though? what would somebody like mercedes, who’s been wrestling for what seems like a lifetime and could easily be considered a veteran of the business, have to learn? i think it would make boring tv, tbh =/ imagine maryse or alicia as one of the trainers teaching her how to take a bump lol.
@Kaledrina
I don’t think alicia or maryse would be a trainer, don’t think wwe is that low standard. I can see gail kim being a trainer or natalya. i think this is all about compitition and winning tasks, obviously mercedes won’t be the only experienced wrestler there so it will be a challenge for her. nxt is more of a training show while tough enough is a reality show.
Great interview, Steven!!
@JoshiTom Yep
You two seemed to click but then again that isnt that hard consider how nice she is.
If Mercedes did sign with WWE her move set would be so watered down. There’s no way they’ll allow her to do her Fisherman Buster finisher to other Divas. They complained when McCool did her Angel’s Wings, which is nowhere near as brutal. Hell, I’ll be surprised if they allow her to do knife edge chops. Her’s are the most devastating in the business.
PS – Why should Mercedes even need to go through Tough Enough? She school everybody there including the WWE trainers. The WWE is just using her for ratings.
