WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross and former Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix have weighed in on today’s report that female MMA star Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos is in talks with WWE
Writing on his blog, Ross writes:
Is Cris Cyborg leaving MMA/Strikeforce to migrate to WWE? Beats the hell out of me just as she would if she chose to but it is an interesting internet rumor. Seeing more athletic, hard hitting women compete in WWE is intriguing for me as a fan. Cris Cyborg is arguably the baddest women on the planet but she would need to learn better English and the art form of pro wrestling or she would run out of opposition in WWE just as she has seemingly done in MMA. Cyborg would be huge draw on a WWE event in Brazil, for example, or so I think.
Meanwhile Beth Phoenix wrote on Twitter:
Rumours of Chris Cyborg coming to WWE are interesting. It’s easy to dominate in any fighting division without the Glamazon. In WWE? Prepare to humbled by yours truly.
Thoughts: Cyborg certainly doesn’t fit the WWE’s ‘mold’ for its Divas, but sometimes when you have an exceptional talent, you make an exception. Look no further than Kong. If Cyborg can, as JR says, learn to transition to wrestling and perfect her English, then she could be an exciting addition to the roster. Between Kong and Cyborg, WWE could have some real game-changers on its hands.

I dont think Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos will get signed by WWE.. I just dont see it happen but who knows…
^ That right there is negativity. Um hello? How many have said that WWE would never sign Kong? Pretty much all women wrestling fans and now look where she is. Anything goes in WWE. Who would have thought Mickie James would be released last year on such a short notice? Pretty much no one.
Like i said, anything goes in WWE. Anyone can be signed and any DIVA can be released.
I would love to see another dominant diva in WWE even though we already have one coming our way. I think Cyborg would fit in WWE perfectly. She can take on the likes of Kong, Beth, Natalya, Gail, Michelle, Tamina and Melina. Theres plenty to go around. I hope she gets signed.
From what I’ve heard, Cyborg is only negotiating with WWE in the hopes of pressuring Strikeforce into booking her more fights. However, you can never tell with internet rumors. She could be a big draw for WWE if they do manage to sign her and she winds up as good at pro wrestling as she is at MMA.

Now that you mention it, i do remember Beth & Jim making the same statements about the rumors on Kong & WWE. Looks as though it’s already set yay xd.
How is it untrue? if your not booked right in the match or written right even with talent dont mean nothing.

i agree with @lily exlvef, and @Darkness ruler, is it very uncomman for Beth to talk about something it just a rumor and all that, but i am not getting my hopes up until its confirmed
LVEFan i just read what you posted i can agree to a point but that for a match not the whole division which need better booking & writing to make it better not just one or few matches they need storylines that builds the matches. Like with Sarita vs Velvet it was the blow off match of the storyline.
WWE maybe on something with Lay-Cool tension plus Eve vs Bellas let just hope they dont drop it like they did Nattie vs Melina

Well they did sign new creative team members a few months ago and the diva storylines have been a bit better then last years. So far we have had melina vs. natalya which could have been better with a good mic to mic moment but it wasn’t so bad it was build up for a few weeks which was good on WWE’s part.
They’re doing a good job at building the Bellas/Eve’s feud too and the Bellas/Gails mini feud wasn’t bad either and from the looks of it, it’s not over yet. The K2 storyline is being build to the maximum which is great. The booking isn’t doing as horrible as 2010 & 2009.
Why can’t wwe just sign marcedec martinez instead since she speak English.
The bigger question here is… is the WWE taking the divas division in another direction after WM? After WM we will likely see Kong & Cyborg. Does this mean the WWE wants more dominant divas? Will we see the divas wrestle more now?
a surely interesting singing. I haven’t seen any of her mma work, but from what I’ve heard she’s quite good. I personally am getting very excited at the divas future. Naomi, AJ, Kong, Shaul G, and now Cyborg. I still think the writing needs a lot of work. But the talent is there, still makes me wonder why Mercedes didn’t get signed or made it for TE? I mean didn’t wwe ask her to audition? that’s mainstream wrestling for you lol. @billygp that velvet and sarita feud wasn’t anything to write home about. (not trying to be rude at all) they started in october and november, but completely dropped it and brought it back up recently.
The_JM but it was a feud/storyline with a payoff which really was never dropped just mixed in with other feuds.

@Lily: I don’t know how you can possibly say the Diva storylines so far have been better than last years. Can you actually list a single decent feud from the Divas all year?
As you said the Natalya vs Melina feud was ‘not bad’, it was not even a feud! Let’s see.. they had a slapping exchange two weeks in a row, Melina didn’t speak a word except during an off air segment, and then they get just one 1v1 match against each other. All this did was massively depush Melina and make her into someone that hardly anyone cares about any more. Remember before Melina’s heel turn everyone was hyped up for the potential feuds we might get? Now no one is even talking about her any more!
Natalya’s championship reign was pretty horrible really. It started off great when she finally overcame Lay-Cool, and then of course the great tables match they had after with Beth. But after that it went completely downhill, as said, her feud with Melina only served to depush Melina (purposefully destructive booking) which tainted Natalya’s reign, and then she randomly loses her title to Eve. Just horrific!
Now as far as Eve’s reign is concerned, I think barely anyone is actually liking it. This is mainly due to how she’s been booked so far. The one good feud on Raw, Gail vs Bellas was put on hold for Eve vs Bellas. It’s not bad so far, but still has much to prove as a feud.
On Smackdown, the best feud by far was Kelly Kelly vs Vickie. But considering that most people here, like yourself don’t even like Kelly Kelly, and Vickie is not a wrestler, it’s hard to consider this a real ‘Diva’s feud’. The Lay-Cool split-up has been teased and teased but is yet to happen.
At least 2009/2010 had the ‘Piggie James’ angle which is by far the best angle/feud to come out of the Divas in the past few years and none of the recent storylines can even be compared to it. All of the current storylines lack any depth or detail at all, and it’s all just very lazy writing to be honest. I think the majority of people here could book the Divas better than the writers are at the moment.
And I have to agree with BillyGP here. You could have all the talent in the world, but if you don’t book them or use them correctly then all that talent will amount to nothing. The idea of Awesome Kong and Cyborg coming in and dominating a division that gets so little time to begin with just seems very ironic, and the only reason they would fit in well is that 2 minute squash matches would actually make a lot of sense given that that’s the average amount of time for Diva matches to begin with and would definitely be a lot more entertaining.

Signing is one thing, using her properly is another thing. Look at Beth. I don’t think WWE is using her properly, same goes for Nattie imo.

Not going to happen until Vince retires. We have seen it too many times that the WWE made an improvement to the diva division, making us think it would all change now. But time after time we get disappointed. Even if you add Kong, AJ, Naomi and Cyborg to the diva roster, you will still be stuck with the same creative team that puts them in 2-3 minute matches.
Just because she’s an excellent Mixed Martial Artist does not mean she will be a good wrestler… and ya’ll complain about signing a model with no wrestling experience.
Nah i dont want her in WWE, she is too rough. I mean she choked out a reporter and wouldnt let go of the sleeper hold on him.

Be good in MMA is like being good in Wrestling. They both are like ‘cousins’. Being good in MMA could help you in wrestling alot. All you need is to learn a moveset, she knows alot of submissions which can help you alot. Now, hopefully you understand being a model won’t help you at all in wrestling but being a top MMA fighter will.
