According to Yahoo Sports, WWE officials have denied reports that MMA fighter, Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos is in negotiations with the company.
Additionally, the article points out that Santos has a ‘champion’s clause’ in her Strikeforce contract which means she can’t go elsewhere while she continues to hold a championship. Cyborg is currently the company’s 145lb women’s champion.
Strikeforce’s CEO Scott Coker weighed in on the report, telling Yahoo:
“We’re negotiating Cristiane’s contract,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker. “We hope to finalize something soon.”
Coker, in Columbus, Ohio, for a Saturday-night Showtime event, indicated he first heard about it Thursday night and didn’t know if the Santos story was serious or just an attempt to leverage the current talks.

idk what to think about this because WWE rarely admits that its doing something until it wants it to be known so u cant really take what the officials said as wholly true imo
i still dont know what to think lol
Sorta freaked out lol. WWE have never responded to a rumor before like this. So this was either truly bogus, or WWE is trying to secretly hire her whilst not having Strikeforce know about it,
Well, Kong rumors were also denied so i’m not believing anything at the moment because ever since Beth & Ross brought it up it left me thinking why would they comment on rumors? Ross only comments on rumors that are most likely true i.e mistico, kong and someone else i think it was tyler black. He didn’t bring up Sting when they were saying he was signed by WWE because he obviously knew it wasn’t true. Isn’t he also working with WWE in it’s talent management? Honestly, i think they’re just trying to make sure her signing is a surprise.
I agree with jayd and darknessruler, WWE basicly -never- responds to internet rumors, unless its in their own interest to do so. So impossible to make anything out of this.
If she’s under contract to Strikeforce, than that”s the end of it unless she is allowed out of the deal. And doesn’t WWE usually just not comment when a rumor is true rather than denying it?
@DarknessRuler I dont think you know what you are talking about here. WWE could be sued by Strikeforce for contract tampering over this.
I think WWE would work a deal out with Strikeforce.
@Lily exLVEF Ok
yeah if WWE wanted her bad enough they could just buy out her contract from strikeforce i mean to be honest she’s no good to strikeforce if they cant find any woman willing to fight her no matter how amazing she is (which she is) she could just retire champ then they can hold a tournment to crown a new champ and she can move on to WWE but im still not sure if its true or not
“If she’s under contract to Strikeforce, than that”s the end of it”
I dont think thats entirely true. There once was a pornstar who had an exclusive deal with a company, but then she wanted out of her contract and she was allowed to because she couldnt be “forced” to stay in porn. Naturally she wouldnt be able to continue in the porn industry, but she did get out of her contract.
I also think Brock Lesnar had a similair situation when he left WWE. So if Cyborg is willing to retire from mma she could get out of her contract (i think).
@Mikas Brock’s situation wasnt that simple
@drayme
Exactly as to why their denying it

I meant that I doubt Strikeforce will just let her out of a valid contract so she can go to WWE, similar to UFC President Dana White saying a month or two ago that he would not allow Brock Lesnar to work with WWE
Everything is too good to be true to make you think that there were talks between Cristiane and WWE.Can she ask to be let out of her contract? It is too common that a wrestler or in this case a fighter would ask to be let out of their contract,but if WWE gets sue by Strikeforce,then oh well que sera que sera,when her contract is up then the WWE can go after her.
I still doubt that WWE is legitimately interested in her, but like other people said, it isn’t like WWE to deny rumours.
Perhaps WWE think that Cyborg is just using them to help her contract negotiations with Strikeforce, and WWE want no part in it, hence denying they’re in talks with her.
I think this sort of makes sense since WWE has nothing to gain from these rumours if they’re not true. Cyborg has obviously got some publicity out of this, and that’s what her MMA career needs badly if she’s going to make any money out of it. If she stays with MMA, then that’s just another boost to MMA which lowers WWE’s falling viewership even more.
Therefore it is in WWE’s interests to end the speculation straight away. As far as JR and Beth’s comments are concerned, while they were good predictors about Kong being signed, the two of them are usually fairly candid about a lot of rumours in the industry, and this is probably just another one of those rumours.
@Piggie James There was interest in her, WWE even came up with a name they were going to give her but they had to back off when the news leaked as WWE could be sued for contract tampering.
Well that’s interesting if that’s really true.. I still haven’t really got the impression that WWE are ever going to get ‘serious’ with their women. But yeah, I suppose what you said makes more sense.
For some reason I really don’t think she is coming to WWE. It would be cool to see her. Throwing Kelly Kelly around like a rag doll. But I just don’t see it happening. I really do think this is all a publicity stunt. Just like @Piggy James said. Now that StrikeForce sees what could happen. I think she will get a new opponent within the month or so.
im confused soo they say shes signed then deny it and strikeforce says no. Sooo im guessing she not going to WWE.
@melina prez no one said she signed
@drayme thats why im confused then why r we having theres articles. Theres noooo use whats so ever.
I hope that Cyborg is NOT talking to WWE – she is so far beyond them that it is ridiculous! She truly is the baddest chick in the game – way too big for wrestling, especially WWE! :)
