This week on WWE Superstars, ‘The Paparazzi Princess’ Melina, takes on long time rival ‘The Glamazon’ Beth Phoenix, in singles action. Can Beth score a win in her first match back on the Raw roster or will Melina send the firebird down in flames? Check out the match below:
Thoughts: Another very strong showing from the Raw Divas this week’s Superstars. Whenever we the phrase “Beth vs Melina”, I’m sure most Diva fans’ minds go back to that excellent ‘I Quit’ match at Extreme Rules and rightly so. While I won’t say this match was as entertaining as that one, it was excellent in it’s own right.
As I said last week, Melina seems to have found a moveset that works really well for her, after some initial trial and error. Her moves are a lot more crisp and clean now, and it’s fun to watch her in the ring once again. As for her attitude, it’s back and just as bad as ever. This is the Melina that everyone loves to hate and I hope she can keep up the good work.
As for Beth, it’s kind of odd to see her on the defense, as she usually has a physical advantage over the rest of the Divas, but I think she played her role well. I also loved seeing her bend Melina nearly in half with that submission toward the end, and the reversal of Melina’s kick into the Glam Slam was pretty impressive, as well.
As I said earlier, a fantastic showing from Beth and Melina this week. I’m hoping that these two will be able to put on a show like this someday soon on the main show.

“YOU BROKE MY NAIL” lol. I like this match wish it was on RAW!
I’m generally not a fan of Melina’s in-ring work, but this match was pretty good. They should be showing matches like this on RAW, instead of those pointless 2 minute messes they usually have.
Very nice, I love it when these two work a match. What a great week for the divas. 2011 is definitely shaping up to be quite the year for both WWE and TNA’s womens divisions.
a great match & beth worked the crowd really well,u never hear beth say anything in her matches & her voice is so womanly so its nice to hear her voice…
this match would never happen on raw or melina would have to job but sad the usa doesnt get this unless they go on wwe.com

Oh my god, Beth like…slapped Melina in the back of her head…WITH HER OWN FOOT! I can’t even….lol and then she lost her boot.
But it’s been a while since I’ve seen Melina in a single’s match with decent time. I enjoyed it. And I love that she kinda went back to her former move-set. I’ve always liked it best.
This was such a cool match. If only heel Melina had more of an explanation as to why she was a heel I would be happy. I’m really hoping for Beth vs Kharma to be a while into the future. I’d much rather see Kharma be mentored/controlled by someone… like Melina :) I think that’s the perfect way to keep her in the eye of the fans. Have her work as a manager to the monster against the rest of the divas.
This was a hell of a match. Too bad I had to watch it on mute, the commentators were absolutely unbearable. It just felt like it ended too soon. Oh, well. Another great night for the Divas on Superstars.
I liked the match a lot and also laughed about the “you broke my nail!!!” comment. ^_^
Was bumped the whole time thinking Kharma will come out at the end of the match and destroy melina in front of beths eyes while beth stays in the ring and watches it happen. :)
Unfortunately never happened and that was the only thing I was a bit dissappointed about. :/
I kinda hyped the match too much in my head… its was good… not great but still… ppretty much love the split counter into glam slam ….
Loved This Match Beth & Melina put on a great show….But had me dying when she said YOU BROKE MY NAIL…..lol Im loving Heel Melina all over again…

Great match. Melina is a good wrestler and so is Beth. With the Kharma attacks I expect for us to only have good matches on Superstars, but that already happened in the past.

the only crap thing is melinas selling of the glam slam where it always suck! the match overall was good though the glam slams selling just itches me
Why is it that whenever Melina is not in a storyline, she generally wrestles better? Of course, the quality of this match is not really that surprising. Usually, Melina wrestles well when she’s working with a girl who can handle her elaborate offense. I’m glad these two got paired up again. Beth is quite reliable as always. I don’t think I remember ever seeing her cause a major botch.
What I really liked about this match is how Melina’s characterization was pretty much a revival of her early persona during her MNM and Melina-Nitro days. This is the kind of heel that works well for her because it gives room for her flamboyance.
Anyway, that foot thing completely reminded me of what Cheerleader Melissa loved to do on the ever so flexible MsChif. Also, it reminded me of how Kong used the Accordion Rack on Christy Hemme making the poor girl kick her own head. I can just imagine Kharma folding Melina in half. That should draw out some gasps from people who’ve never seen that before.
Are my eyes playing tricks on me or does Melina have blue streaks in her hair? Have they been there for a while and I am just now noticing? lol
@TheCryingLight I remember Kong doing that accordian thing to Christy. She did the same thing to MsChif. I honestly believe that Karma vs Melina has the potential to be just as great as Kong vs MsChif was.
@JJ I noticed Melina’s hair too. She looks like someone put dye in her shampoo as a cruel prank. It really is an eye-sore.

Who says Kelly is the most over diva in WWE? Melina may be a heel, but she gets face reactions louder than any diva. Also, her heel turn failed for lack investment on WWEs part.
Great showing from Beth / Melina, better than anything we’ve seen on Raw and Smackdown or PPV in months.

Love Beth’s new attire. Melina getting pissed over a broken nail to where she gets pretty evil. Overall match was great. Beth vs Melina seems to be the new Lita vs Trish because Beth and Melina have done so many matches against each othe same goes to Lita and Trish.

Nah, she’s had those hideous blue streaks for quite a while now, since around Wrestlemania. I understand that she wants a unique look and wants to try something different, but dying parts of your hair blue is tacky and quite frankly looks stupid.
This has been the first Divas match I didn’t at least fast forward through in a while lol.
I loved this match! Enjoyed these two! Seeing them wrestle reminds me when it was Mickie, Melina and Beth that were the new top divas.
Phenominal. The heel Melina I used to love is coming back in leaps and bounds. Sadly they didn’t transition it properly, but whatever. As long as I can see her having attitude that’s fine.

melina i cant say too much about, i think she is very talented BUT her recent actions and attitude made me lose interest in her. and i dunno why people think melina will be back on top of the divas division when its not happening any time soon. considering shes not liked backstage atm.

I love the new Melina. Whenever she’s on RAW she gives us pure heel status while on superstars she doesn’t try as hard except for that one match against Tamina where she brought back those heel face expressions <3

@04bia: She deserves to be on top because she has the talent and the charisma. She hasn’t been on Raw in ages and yet she’s still getting that kinda reaction. Says it all, really.
I’m not getting into ‘backstage reputation’, because all we have to judge her on are dirtsheet reports recycled from 2005. They’ve been claiming she’s like that forever, and yet she’s still held more titles than anyone else.
Melina and Beth are both fantastic, and it’s ridiculous that WWE are pushing Eve and a Bella over them. Thankfully, Kharma indicates that things are changing for the better.

I just realized that Melina’s last pin fall victory was back in Feburary…..Go Figure…smh but Im glad she is on superstars each week though better to have some decent wrestling then to have a botchfest on Raw
Wonderful match. I liked watching the hesitation at the end. When they were trying to do it just right. “LOOK AT WHAT YOU DID!” Gotta love heel Melina.

pretty good matchup between beth and melina.it wasn’t as good as their past matchups, but it was still good.melina is really starting to transition into the heel that she used to be,and i like it.it was weird seeing beth getting beat up by melina,but she played that part pretty well.overall,good matchup between these two.if for some reason they don’t have beth feud with kharma,maybe they could revive this feud between beth and melina.there’s nothing wrong with having more than one diva feud on the same show
When was the last time WWE gave Melina any promo or mic time on television? I don’t remember either. They haven’t given her even 30 seconds as a heel, which is fairly representative of depush.
Melina with a mic is extremely entertaining, and for that matter, they need to give this regularly to all the Divas for them to develop their characters (and their experience as ‘sports entertainers’).
Anyway, very solid match, Melina is still extremely over with the crowd (but in a face kind of way), but her heel actions in the match were pretty good. Don’t know what leash the bookers have on her, but she would do great if she did them even more (like the broken nail thing lol).
Beth was great too, but she doesn’t work that well as a face with smaller women, so I hope they throw her with Kharma very soon.

The face reaction to Melina is testament to how poorly they booked her heel turn, which is a shame because Melina could be such a nasty piece of work for the newer girls looking to get over. I liked the match: Melina’s moveset is delicately beautiful to watch when given the right opponent. But yes, the blue streaks need to go.
not a melina fan myself but kudos to her and beth. this is quite a good match. ii enjoyed a few spots when beth was beating her down and the glamslam was just beautiful.
