Former Divas Champion, Eve Torres, has probably not gotten the credit she deserves for her efforts outside of WWE in promoting self defense and safety for women. Eve even teaches free self defense classes at her alma mater, the University of Southern California.
Torres does a great job empowering women and being a positive role model, and this latest video is just another example. Eve, who works with the Gracie Academy, talks about why women should learn self defense:
Thanks to Katie for the tip.

Eve is such an amazing role model, not many of the past Divas have done something like this. It’s good to see someone use their fame status to help and promote serious topics like Eve has.

I wonder if she had been sexually assaulted to promote it so much

That’s probable, as well as Eve knowing someone who has dealt with sexual assault. I think it’s very important to highlight the issue given the concerning rates and more props to Eve for channeling her profile into a positive outlet. This is why I would prefer Eve to supersede Kelly as the unofficial poster girl of the WWE: she’s strikingly intelligent, articulate, a good icon for young girls to look up to and while not necessarily the most polished wrestler, at least displays a willingness to learn more about her craft.
Now officially a fan.

I agree, a great role-model

i respect her alot because of her outside wwe work plus she actually works hard to learn new moves & is creative with her ring skills..

Eve is great out of the ring as well as in the ring :) I hope one day she can have an amazing divas title run :)

Now THESE are the kind of girls (and guys) the WWE need on their roster. It’s awesome to see her use her name value to promote and encourage issues as important as this. It’d be nice for the WWE to put more emphasis on her BJJ background. I’d like to see her with a “This Girl Can Kick Your Ass For Real” type gimmick, especially since it’s true. Eve is one of the only Divas I’m excited to see all the time and I can’t wait to see how good she is in a couple of years time. So much wrestling potential on top of being a good person.

This side of Eve is interesting, we should see it more on WWE TV. She could make a great character out of self defense and some funny segments could happen as well..

Wow. Eve looks so gorgeous here, she’s beautiful inside and out. She’s an amazing role model. So proud to call myself a “believer” she is so humble and just an all around strong, amazing woman.

Another example of Eve’s thoroughly decent character. A positive role model for young women? Definitely.

Eve is such a good speaker, sad WWE don’t show this more on TV :(

Now this… this is impressive. Unlike Velvet Sky berating ballet, this is of real substance. Good job Eve.

The Crying Light tends to bring up things that have little to do with the Diva being highlighted – A ballet dancer who’s sore about Velvet ridiculing the sport/if you want to call it that.
Eve is not only ever improving as a great wrestling superstar, she’s equally as impressive as outside of the ring. I’m so proud to be a fan of hers, she is such a positive role model, I hope to see her involved in these projects for years to come.

Seems a bit bitter to slander Velvet here. The key difference between Eve’s video here, and the Velvet video you have a problem with, is this is more reflective of Eve’s true personality/opinion, while Velvet was doing a promo for the Knockouts division, so taking a personal shot at Velvet is a bit uncalled for. And certainly ‘berating’ is an exaggeration.
If you didn’t know, Velvet recently opened a Twitter account to fund raise money for her ex-boyfriend Shane Helms and his girlfriend after a near-death motorcycle accident with massive hospital bills. While Helms was suspected of DUI, I don’t think anyone can fault Velvet for undertaking a very charitable act. She even said before she never had intentions of making an account.

Totally agree with Piggy James. There’s no need to interpret Velvet’s comment On a latent level. She was basically recycling an ageless cliché associated with hard-hitting sports. Sure, it’s redundant given a lack of true awareness towards the gruelling discipline of ballet, but I don’t think it was her intention to bash the art. :)

Eve is a very good role model I wish they let layla do something like this I remember maria saying she practiced mui Tai and was very good at it.

I myself did some training in ju-jitsu and it feels great. I recomond some of you ladies to try it.

eve is very intelligent and smart. and what she said about women was so true, women can do anything!!!!
she looks absolutely stunning!!
she actually gave me alotta encouragement just by looking at this video.
shes is a great role model. ima definatly learn self defense!

Very impressive of Eve to be doing this. This is completely outside of WWE, and not many other wrestlers would take it upon themselves to really try and help improve society.
Sexual assault feels like a problem that Eve is genuinely concerned about solving, and personally I think all women would do well to learn self defense, because it’s in my opinion the best solution. The greatest thing about it is that all self defense courses (for both men and women) will always promote non-violence, and if everyone had that mentality in real life, society would be a lot better off (of course keep it in the wrestling lol).
I’ve never had a huge problem with WWE pushing Eve, because I think she has a lot of very good qualities about her, that makes her ideal for the spotlight. I don’t think any of her pushes have been handled particularly well though. She really needs a different/tweaked gimmick, and while her theme is catchy for me, it’s just very hard for anyone to take her seriously for anything but her ‘looks’ while she has it.
And I definitely agree with andagain that she should have more of a kick-ass martial arts type character. They’ve touched on it a bit in the past, but never to the extent that they should. It might also cater to a moveset she’s more comfortable working with, which would make her a more credible in-ring worker.

My Eve is a beauty shes smart intelligent ever so FINE!! And knows self defense! Love her in the ring! Shes a ig girl any diva in the WWE would get crushed by Eve!! Take them down and TAP OUT!!
But why the shot at Velvet Sky??? Totally uncalled for man, velvet maybe doesnt have self-defense training or much wrestling training but you know what, she is mentally strong and knows where she stands and even for her smaller size she wont take crap from anyone. Velvet Sky is one hot smart sexy chick. There arent too many ditz divas because bimbos in Wrestling dont last Ya Digg?
Chicks who just flaunt their stuff and screw around with guys dont last long, even with Melina’s PAST, Melina is one strong female who knows what she wants where shes at and HOW to control things.
Eve Torres is one hell of a Role Models for young ladies who watch WWE
Damn even the guys in WWE suck all are pretty boys who really show no signs of a formidable bad guy or even a role model
Other than John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston cause of his Soccer Player look, and MAYBE john morrison. U cant expect a kid to look up to a man who punt kicks pple in the head and sais he hears VOICES !! Daa F***!!!??
Eve and the rest of the divas in my eyes are the purest thing in WWE
Thats why I am glad I dont watch the WWE anymore and really am glad that I can catch the Divas on youtube and THIS site that sais if I missed ANYTHING! =D
TNA ill watch the whole thing!

OHHH MY FUCKEN GOD EVE TORRES CAN LIKE GET FIRED BY WWE AND SHE CAN DO HER PROJECTS!! YAY! EVERYONE WINS!
at 7:16 am
Eve is a winner. She proved it here and I’m glad she’s showing other women how to successfully defend themselves in moments of potential peril. I loved listening to her speak as she displayed intelligence and motivational ability to encourage more women to learn self-defense. Eve is a beautiful woman and here’s hoping she can show more of her personality and get more matches in WWE. Awesome video and I’d love to watch Eve teach to see how wicked-awesome she is at kicking butt.
at 11:37 am
I know we’re in PG land but the E could feasibly conceive a story where Eve gets to highlight her techniques on a male wrestler. That could get both she and the program over.

Eve is such a role model. She’s an inspiration for women everywhere. The Gracie Family Acadmey is doing something right, good for them !
