FCW Watch: AJ and Aksana vs. Sonia and Audrey Marie

This week on FCW, there’s quite a bit of diva action to behold, as not only does the reigning Queen/Champion Aksana team up with current Smackdown Geek Goddess, AJ, but they face off against the (TV in-ring) debuting Sonia, and the actual TV debut of Audrey Marie in tag team action. Quite the mouthful, but that’s still not it, because before the match Sonia and Audrey take the mic for a team interview with Briley Pierce.

Check out how the action unfolds below…

We head to the interview area where Briley Pierce stands with the debuting Sonia and Audrey Marie. Pierce remarks how he cant believe he gets paid to do this, before questioning what they plan to do in their debut against two of the most decorated divas in the promotion, AJ and Aksana. Audrey (complete with southern accent) reveals a moving saying that her grandma told her, in that she could decorate a cow all she wants, but at the end of the day it’s still a cow. She doesn’t mean Aksana and AJ are like farm animals or anything, and starts to get riled up at the thought of facing off against them before Sonia takes control and tells her to calm down. Sonia remarks that while AJ and Aksana may be the two most successful divas, Sonia and Audrey have a good feeling that after tonight they will be known as losers (get the picture?).

From there, we head to the ring as Eden announces the upcoming match and the team of AJ/Aksana make their way to the ring. After a few failed attempts to get the bell rung, it finally commences and we are underway. Sonia and AJ lock up in the center of the ring, as AJ takes control sending Sonia into the ropes. She flies in with a reverse elbow to send the newcomer to the mat for a two count. Sonia takes control and sends AJ into the corner, where she applies an illegal chokehold until the count of three. She takes it upon herself to distract the referee, which allows Audrey to grab AJ from the hair and send her down. Sonia goes for a pinfall, but only gets a 2 count. This seems to infuriate her, as she lets out a shrill scream at the sight of AJ’s kick out.

Sonia throws AJ back into the corner and begins choking her with her boot until she makes the tag to Audrey. Audrey Marie proceeds to kick AJ in the stomach, before tossing her down by the back of the head. Marie then applies a knee to the back of Lee, as she bends AJ back by applying a modified camel clutch to add even more pressure to the back of AJ. The crowd begins to get behind AJ, but Audrey lets go of the hold and begins to taunt AJ until Lee manages to slap her in the stomach. Marie applies a front face lock and falls back into the corner, where Sonia makes the tag back in.

Sonia gets a roll up for a one count, before taking control with another front face lock. AJ tries to fight out, but Sonia takes control with a mat slam. From there, she begins clawing at the back of Lee, before digging her knee into the back and stretching her arms out in a nice modified surfboard, making sure to break it before her own shoulders were counted for a two. She then kicks AJ to the mat and Audrey tags back in. Sonia tosses Audrey into AJ with a double team clothesline of sorts, as Marie then sends AJ into a different corner and goes for a body splash, but Lee manages to move out of the way and tag in her partner. Aksana charges with two clotheslines to Audrey, followed by a bodyslam and slap to the face for a two count.

Sonia attempts to break the pinfall up, but Aksana manages to toss her outside the ring. Audrey tries to take advantage with a roll up, but makes the mistake of putting her feet on the ropes with the referee in clear view. She takes it upon herself to argue with the ref over his call, distracting her just long enough for the Champion to take control with a roundhouse kick to the head for the victory. Sonia and Audrey exit the ring as AJ and Aksana pose for the crowd.

Thoughts: Well first off, it was great to finally see some new faces on TV. For a while it’s been the same batch of females used, so it’s cool to see some change. The promo was interesting, I’m not sure I bought Audrey’s southern accent, maybe it’s just from hearing her in person, but I thought her gimmick was funny and at least I was entertained. I enjoyed Sonia a lot and I think she comes off well as a heel. The match was solid for what it was. Audrey was green, but I expected it given how new she is. She didn’t mess anything up, she just seemed to not know where to go next in parts, which like I said, is understandable. I enjoyed Sonia and AJ working together, especially the submission hold towards the middle of the match, and it’s good to see Aksana pick up another win since she’s billed as the top of the division. I would like to see Sonia as her next challenger though to freshen things up.

You hit the nail on the head, cnt wait to see more of the new faces! I’m really liking Sonia and Raquel cnt wait for more!

  • LlamaWhisperer

Wow, I didn’t expect Sonia to play such a good heel o_o

Anyways, I thought Audrey was kind of slow in the match, but like it was said in the review, it’s understandable because she’s green. At least she didn’t mess anything up *coughcoughrawdivascoughcough*. I loved that Modified Surfboard that Sonia pulled off in the middle of the match, it was interesting. All in all, I enjoyed this match a lot, and it was great to see Sonia in action!

The match was okay. Audrey and Sonia was kinda slow tho but either way, AJ and aksana were always good to see!

  • SherriShepherdWWE

the match was okay, i really like Sonia, i think to is gonna be big, and Audrey was alright, and love her gimmick, so good for the FCW DIvas tonight

  • Looking Glass

Oh god, that promo! Audrey did well, I don’t know if the accen’t genuine, but she was quite natural with it. Sonia? I’d have to disagree with you Bobby, she wasn’t entirely great as the curious interviewer, where she’d act like she was about to have a heart attack, now she’s a heel she talks about one word every 5 minutes, it just comes across too try hard.

No mention of Aksana and AJ’s argument at all then? I mean I guess Aksana walking out on Maxine meant she’d turned face in the process, just seemed a little lacking on contuniuity there. The match itself was okay, Sonia seemed a bit Kaitlyn-like at the start (not much wrestling just hair pulling, dragging around) and Audrey well I guess she’s still green, it was kinda akward to watch her enter off the tag, tap AJ and see AJ fly down and roll around in pain like she just took a major move. It got better with Sonia’s submission moves, kinda felt FCW did their usual routine of dropping AJ because she’s on the main shows now, same happened with TIffany, Serena, Anglea, Alicia and Rosa.

I liked Audrey using the ropes, character-wise she comes off a lot less desperate and wannabe compared to Sonia. Overall it seemed like a match essentially to put over Aksana, continue her build. AJ was shown to be struggling and a punchbag for a lot of the match, whilst the heels just did some slow, sometimes akward offense and Aksana comes in and clears it all up. I don’t know what to say, for a match that felt so long, there was no wow factor to it, but I guess you can get away with that in FCW. These past few months FCW has been really lagging in Diva storylines, I’m starting to think whether the crown and belt are really needed, because since the belts come into action, there’s been less and less going on, just random defenses. They need to get back to the point when AJ and Naomi were feuding for both titles, since then it’s just been like a pass the parcel of the crown and then the title defended very little and when it is, it’s just a name-out-the hat contender.

Oh wow, I really feel this way about the match, but Sonia was amazing on the microphone, and she is hot and her voice ! Fan already ! <3 Jerry is one lucky guy ! haha

    Sonia really impressed me!
Audrey is horrible. remind me some of rosa (Rosa is still better then her)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001164441111 Straight Edge Mattie

i thonk that rosa is botchful and Audrey is slow i would rather see a slow matck than a botchful match

  • Rhawk

To be honest, if they didn’t say that it was Sonia, I would have mistaken her for Rosa Mendes. And in all honesty, I wasn’t really a fan of her promo, she was waaaay tooo slooooow whhheeen sheee waaas taalkkiiing… I mean really? Although she was decent enough in the ring, can’t say she did anything wrong, hopefully she does more with her moveset though since I wasn’t too fasinated with it, even though it was decent enough.

Whether it was fake or not, I actually enjoyed Audrey’s promo over Sonia’s, at least we got to hear a different voice instead of the same old forced out voice, aka The Bellas Twins, Kelly Kelly, Sonia, etc. And I expected her to be a little lost in the ring, its her TV debut after all, she can only (hopefully) get better in time.

But een though both women have ther goods and bads, at least FCW is bringing in new faces for once, and even though we already got spoilers up until the middle of august now, here’s hoping we get actual storylines with the women, as well as bringing in Irena and others as well. =-)

  • Raekon

In my opinion, Sonia looked a lot like Rosa as a heel(I know her as a face so far), the scream after things didnt go her way, the hair/build, the overall looks.

Audrey were VERY slow in her moves most of the time and she missed a few spots aswell making AJ looking akward from falling down because of “thin air” instead of getting a hit. ^_^

I expected more from sonia since she is actually solid in the ring and has quite some experience previous FCW and within FCW.

She has shown more in untelevised events so I don’t know why she showed that little on a televised one.

AJ & Aksana were AJ & Aksana! Nothing more to say. :)

I hope we get to see raquel diaz, caylee turner, irena janjic, and arianne andrews in upcoming episodes.

As soon as Sonia got in the mic ,I fell in love lmfaoo .Love her ! I think shes gonna be successful in future :) .She did decent in the match imo .Audrey hmm ,well like bobby said shes green ,She seemed to be lost and was kinda slow but I guess shell learn down the road.

AJ and Aksana ,what is there to say ? theyr AMAZING ? Aksana needs to be called up ASAP ! I really would hate to see her get released because of her age without going to the main roster ,but I think and hope before the end of this year she will be on the main roster .I couldnt help it think of mickie when I saw aj .Shes like mickies clone imo loll ,and I LOVE IT !

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001164441111 Straight Edge Mattie

i don’t think age would be an issue unless she gets injured

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

Well for the divas wwe usually lets them go or doesnt push the divas when they hit the 30s .I mean look at the divas their pushing ,theyr all in theyr 20s and melina ,and gail (who are the ones that can wrestle) sadly are in the back .

        • Jake

They wouldn’t of hired her in the first place if they thought the cut off age for a Diva was 30.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

Its not exactly at 30 years old it when theyr like in theyr mid 30s (shouldve written that. Most of the divas start to job by like 35 or just get released

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

          its *

    • hado

I feel straight in love with her as well, once I heard her voice, haha !

  • WWFoverWWE

it was okay, the match didn’t really keep my attention though honestly

Audrey needs a lot of work, and i’m not liking Sonia’s personality, this isn’t high school ya know

aksana has gotten so much better btw

  • AdrianRay

Interested in the talent FCW has gotten together. :)

  • Alex

Sonia reminds me of Santana from Glee her

  • andagain

Sonia seems a lot greener than she should be. It’s understandable for Audrey, but Sonia does not come across as someone with at least some previous training. When it comes to her and Irena, WWE haven’t really been picking out the cream of the crop as far as independent women’s wrestlers go. Here’s hoping they actually do something with Tenille.

    • Looking Glass

I think it was more to do with the fact that Jerry Lawler needed to keep his girlfriend earning when he closed down his promotion (where Su Yung/Sonia) came from, more than it did hiring professional and experienced female wrestlers.

      • andagain

Unfortunately this is probably the case. If she’s really passionate about wrestling, she would have been better off staying the in the Indys for a while. She’s still young and currently doesn’t bring much to the table. I doubt she’s going to become really good in the ring under FCW and WWE tutelage. If anything, Lawler should have helped her get bookings/training in other promotions across North America and in places like Japan and Mexico before eventually bringing her to the WWE.

  • http://www.youtube.com/rockinred45mvs RR45

That was really good. Sonia and Audrey did well in their promo. Sonia sounded very confident which i liked. People will always find a way not to enjoy something but I liked it. Nice submission hold…the only other person in WWE who could take that would be Melina. I also really like how they are basically presenting AJ and Aksana as FCW veterans. Aksana needs to get called up with Naomi and Maxine asap!

    • gl83

In regards to AJ, it’s like a tale of two cities. In FCW, she’s portrayed as the most experienced Diva in the division, one of the measuring sticks for the other FCW Divas and one of the most decorated Diva in FCW history. Whereas, in WWE she’s portrayed as a wet-behind-the-ears-rookie.

  • Lily

I’m loving the duo of Audrey and Sonia but they aren’t much of wrestlers which bothers me but they’re starting so i guess it’s passable because i remember when Akana started, she was god awful and now look at her.

Sonia could have done better in the promo but she played a very good heel. I thought when she said Aksana and AJ weren’t going to be nothing more than losers she should have said they weren’t going to be nothing more than history.

Aksana has improved so much, i adore her. I can’t wait to see her on the main roster and i’m so glad she added the kick to her moveset, it reminds me so much of Michelle McCool :\

  • French.One

I really dislike the promo segment, playin the hot lesbian sexy lady was not very original, and Sonia seemed to be on drugs … I hope they’re not stoling the bellas gimmick.

As the match it was very awful. Audrey was slow and doesn’t know what to do in the ring (have they prepared the match ?), she almost by the way did nothing.
Sonia is worse than I expected, beside the submission, there was nothing special, not even a spark. AJ was here apparently just to do the number.
And Aksana did as usual (so so), but I didn’t like the kick at the end (wrestler seriously need to learn to do a high kick).

  • darkangels

fcw divas wrestle more than the wwe divas

  • bxradimus

That match was pretty awful. I guess it makes sense with at least two of them not really being wrestlers. But matches like this are the reason WWE should hire…you know, actual female wrestlers.

  • http://www.youtube.com/RingVixens Teri

ROFL @ Sonia’s promo. This girl has LOTS to learn. Oh, and the wrestling was very sub par.

  • art

Audrey was awkward…but everything else was ok..kinda sloppy.

  • MarckTorrieJames

Aww I like so much thiss match the Heel divas do a great job on the ring but I prefer Aksana y A.j :) =D ?

  • http://ahlanthony.tumblr.com ahlanthony

Aksana is waay better than sonia. I hope she doesn’t lose her titles to sonia.
