Welcome to a very special SUPER SmackDown Redux! This week, the Divas of Doom (Natalya and Beth Phoenix) take on the team of Alicia Fox and the Divas Champion, Kelly Kelly in tag team action (with Aksana as ring announcer!). Can DOD back up their words and put Kelly and Alicia in their places or will the champ come out on top once again? Check out the match below:
Out first are the Divas of Doom, looking stoic as usual. While Nattie is in her usual pink and black attire, Beth is sporting a darker, more subdued version of her SummerSlam gear and it looks pretty good. Kelly and the newly babyfaced Alicia Fox are out next, playing to the crowd. Is it just me or are Alicia’s face mannerisms nearly identical to her heel ones? Ahem. Anyhoo…
Both teams take their places and the official signals for the bell, kicking off our tag team match for the night. Kelly and Natalya start the match for their respective teams with a lockup. Natalya muscles Kelly into the corner, prompting the referee to call for the break. While Nattie is distracted, Kelly slaps her across the face, which only upsets her. Nattie goes for a clothesline, but Kelly dodges and takes her down with a Thesz Press, followed by a few punches.
After a stiff forearm, Kelly attempts to whip Nattie across the ring, but it gets reversed. Kelly goes for a headscissors out of the corner, but Natalya catches her and drops her flat out her face, turning the tide of the match. With the champion dazed, Natalya drags her to her corner and tags in the Glamazon.
The Divas of Doom keep the heat on Kelly Kelly, flattening her with a double team shoulder block for a near fall. Frustrated, Beth Phoenix throws Kelly onto the second rope and starts pounding on her. The referee manages to pull her away, which gives Natalya a chance to land a cheap kick to the face of the champion, allowing Beth to get another near fall.
Kelly tries to fight out of the grasp of the Glamazon, but Beth quickly puts an end to that and lifts Kelly up for a slam. Fortunately for Kelly, she manages to escapes and makes the hot tag to the fresh Alicia Fox.
Beth tries to cut Alicia off at the pass with a clothesline, but Alicia blocks it and sends her reeling with a forearm. Taking full advantage of Phoenix rare moment of weakness, Alicia heads to the top rope and lands a high crossbody. Beth tries to slow Fox’s momentum by reversing her Irish Whip, but Alicia leaps to the second rope and land a (slightly awkward) back elbow, taking Beth off of her feet once again.
With Beth incapacitated, Alicia knocks Natalya off of the apron, before taking landing a high kick to the head of Beth Phoenix. Alicia launches herself off of the ropes, looking to finish Phoenix off with a scissor kick, but gets blasted with a double axe-handle to the chest. Wasting no time, Beth lifts Alicia off of the mat and lays her out with a Glam Slam, picking up the win for her team.
Pretty good match for the Divas on this week’s SmackDown. I really thought Kelly did a good job as the babyface in peril. She took the brunt of the offense from Beth and Nattie and didn’t need to resort to her typical moveset, which is a refreshing change of pace. I thought things got a bit awkward and sloppy when Alicia hit the ring, but I’ll chalk it up to her adjusting to a different moveset as a babyface for now.
As always, Beth and Nattie were great in the ring, but as characters I feel like they’re slowly but surely becoming all sizzle, but no steak. If the Divas of Doom are going to be a dominant force in the Divas division, they need to do something big. Standing on the ramp clapping and the occasional vignette just isn’t cutting it anymore.
With only three weeks left until Night of Champions, I hope WWE can really give us some real direction and development in this DOD/Kelly feud. While I can’t speak for everyone, this rivalry has gone from a raging fire to fizzling flame in a matter of weeks. Let’s hope things make a change for the better in the coming weeks.

Am I the only one who likes Beth’s roller derby gear?
The DoD make such a solid tag team. It’s a shame there’s no Divas tag titles for them, The Bellas, The Chickbusters, etc to feud for.

Much better showing and development than Raw, but I agree that they need to DO SOMETHING. Kelly was right there in the ring with the DoD as Alicia was laid out and the DoD celebrated. I wanted them to turn around and get their hands dirty.
But, nope, just leave and do nothing.
It’s like whoever is in charge of this is afraid to fully commit and make this a war of ideals. As the whole thing smacks of being inspired by the Punk/HHH storyline, I’d like to see them take more pages from that and, well, SELL IT. Right now, what should be Beth and Natalya talking about what a real woman wrestler is and Kelly defending the Divas image and them fighting heatedly over it is turning into nothing more than a puffed up jealous-of-popularity angle.
They can’t be half-assing these things if they want them to work and get over with the general audience.

It almost feels like WWE is afraid to pull the trigger on this, so much like with Kharma, Kelly will cower in the corner & the DoD will glare @ her because God forbid Princess Kelly get bested in any way. It’s not a shot on Kelly, more WWE for coddling the golden girl. Maybe Candice & Michelle’s frequent injuries has caused WWE to be more protective of their “it” girls because Trish used to get the Holy Hell beaten out of her, but now Kelly is nearly untouchable.

I hate it when they half-ass things.
It also looks as if they are putting a protective field around Kelly only cause if you compare the differences, AJ was thrown allover the place and Kaitlyn got kicked on the face and took a sharpshooter additionaly the last time they faced DoD.
Yet the main person they are feuding with stands right behind them and the only thing they do is turning, watching and leaving.

I loved the match, an it was nice to see a few new moves from Alicia! Think that’s the first time I’ve seen her off the top rope?
Overall, I think it was a great match, with Alicia really impressing me, it was also nice to see bait of Aksana, too!

i enjoyed the match. alicia was def the star of the match, i’m totally liking her face role is something she really needed. i was glad we didn’t see kelly do her 5moves of doom. and as for DOD i agree clapping isn’t going to progress the storyline, can’t wait for next week

Alicia was a little sloppy, and not very lissome, but she was amazing with her new moves. She was the best part of this match, the most entertaining at least. Natalya was the most crisp, and Beth was kind of sloppy to be honest. Kelly showed the same felicity with her incipient moveset.
This could be because it hasn’t picked up yet, but I’m already bored with the storyline. Alicia in a random-tag doesn’t do much, it was probably just to show the fact she turned face. I’m waiting for something to catch my eye, hopefully not in a way that has Natalya or Beth talking.. Kind of a shame when all the divas in your storyline can’t really put on a promo.
But hey, at least they can wrestle, right? According to a lot of fans here simply because Beth and Natalya can wrestle they can pull a whole storyline through phenomenally. -Cough.-
I do have to respect Beth and Natalya’s tag-team skill though, they do really have chemistry. I’m just not going to put all the blame on Kelly and Eve for this storyline’s failure when it’s theirs, DoD’s, AND WWE’s. It’s a party going on, not just the writers, not just the actors, not just the wrestlers.

When Natalya dropped Kelly on her face I was like DAMN! That looked like it had to hurt.
I thought Alicia was a bit sloppy & awkward but she was just probably not used to a babyface move-set like you said.
All in all, good match. I wish Natalya & Beth attacked Kelly after the match though :p

A good match, but I wish it would have went just a little bit longer.
Also, still not a fan of Beth’s roller derby look. It seems counterproductive of what her message in this Divas Of Doom storyline is.
I’m also convinced they need to take the old WWF Women Tag Team Championship out of the mothballs.
They have more than enough Diva Tag Teams to have some feuds for both the Divas Championship and a Tag Team Championship.
When you really think about it, the Divas have a stronger Tag Team Division than the Superstars do.

After reading some of the comments here, I sometimes wish Alicia wasn’t in the WWE. I don’t think she will ever get any props for doing the work she does (unlike Kelly, who all she has to do is show up and the freaking world falls in love). Yes, there was some awkwardness and a couple of miscues when Alicia first hit the ring, but man, when others mess up, we all have to “lower our standards” because this is what the WWE has given us. Alicia has to be the best straight out of the gate.
At least “sloppy” Alicia can run the ropes!

Wow… I don’t think anybody was targeting Alicia. We all know this is her first match as a babyface so she just wasn’t used to it. And actually people here on Diva Dirt are a lot harder on Kelly than Alicia, to be honest.

Evethough people really havent said anything bad ,other than that she was sloppy, which there is a reason for her sloppyness ( babyface turn im guessing ).
But onto answering your question .Alicia gets more critism when shes sloppy ,is because IMO shes already expected to perform in the same level or a little lower than nattie and beth ,due to how shes been performing lately , I mean the girl can wrestle her ASS OFF !. But yeah I think thats why she gets more critism but dont take it to the head ,she was a little sloopy but I think she was the STAR of the match IMO.

I don’t want to play devil’s advocate, but if it was other diva people wouldn’t be saying that the reason Alicia was sloppy and awkward in this match because she isn’t used to a babyface move-set.

Still doesn’t make it true. You can attempt to put a logic-based down fact all you want but the point still stands that it’s an opinion on what you think other people would say. I just pointed out that you can’t decide what somebody else would say when you don’t know them, that’s all there is to it. To play devil’s advocate in it’s truthful meaning would be to, given a certain argument, takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with, just for the sake of argument, usually with a logic-based fact, which this is not.

So, I can’t read comments and to take conclusions from them? I’m taking conclusions from old/recent statements people made. I’m not exclaiming that everyone would mandatorily write what I said, but many people would do it. (If you noticed I used the word “would” and not “will” in my first comment which means it doesn’t necessarily have to happen). As you must know, Alicia is one of the favourite models turned wrestlers. Most of the people will write she was sloppy/awkward because of her new babyface move-set, than she was sloppy/awkward because she still isn’t an amazing wresltler and still has a lot to learn (I’m not trying to bash her as you may think). If it was, for example, Eve turning hell and to do the same mistakes, no one would write excuses about her getting used to a new move-set. If you take a moment to check what people say when a certain diva is sloppy and awkward and what people are saying now, perhaps you will finally understand my words and you will stop saying that my argument doesn’t have any logic.

megumi may be right, but given how folks (including the wonderful ones who are in “charge” here) laughed at eve for selling that missed kick, yes doing her friggin JOB a few days back you are right thyanna, hell no one did the same for Eve when started at first or when she is learning moves, you are tellign the truth and she/he/it doesn’t want to see it but let Eve or anyone else who isn’t a favorite here screw up again. You’ll see, hey look how they reacted when they thought she might be next in line for the title a few smackdown response threads just a few weeks ago (almost a month ago with the supposed battle royal of that nature) boy the claws came out. But hey I realize not everyone likes her or others but folks really put on their clown shoes for some they despise and there’s no denying that.

Even though nothing exciting has happened beth Kelly and DOD it still feels like a feud because sometimes a fued doesn’t always have to involve interference in the ring. But I still agree I want more happening.

Agreed. Smackdown usually has the better wrestling and it would be better to give the girls there a chance to shine i.e. AJ, Alicia, Nattie, Rosa.

I Liked SD alot more than Raw tbh. The match was really solid imo .
Alicia was the star of this match ,yess her some of her moves were sloopy ( but like some people said she just turned babyface soo yeahh ) . Kelly Did a pretty decent job ,I was glad to not see her usual moves or the 5 moves of doom but tbh I like most of her moves with the ass slap and the stinkface in exception of course.
Beth Did great as well ,like always .Last night some people ( dont remember who they were )were saying that she should get rid of the glamslam ,I kinda dissagree .I love that glammslam it makes her look so powerful because the move itself is powerful. Btw I feel like Im the only one that kinda likes her Attire D: eventhough I agree its pretty sparkly and what not .I think she should just use darker colors and no sparkles .
Nattie also did great ,No critism at all .Shes always great .But All in All Good night for the Ladies .
And We have like 2 or 3 weeks before NOC .I hope this starts progressing next week .

Alicia was sloppy but she only had one chance to practice those moves for this match & its not like she does those moves when she was a heel so i know she’ll get used to it next time…
why couldnt beth & nattie beat down alicia after the match? & kelly either stands up for alicia or runs like she did when eve was attacked by kharma..

Alicia did amazing in the match despite the fact she usually does lots of hair-pulling moves and slow-paced matches. She was very dynamic and exciting with all the aerial moves and for me she gave me the “I hope she wins the title” feeling. I think she will work on her newly found ring skill and captivate the Diva Dirt audience as she usually does.
Natalya was very smooth and with this girl I don’t think we will ever get less than amazing. Great job Nattie!
Beth wasn’t at her best but I still wont pick holes.
I was happy not to see the 5 MoD from Kelly therefore I am rather happy. Also great to see that after a 100 day winning streak, they pulled the plug!

Alicia was sloppy in this match but that dosent mean she is any less of a great performer. Alicia is one the best workng divas in the wwe…so you can call her sloppy a million times she has some great matches to back ber up saying “Bi*ch I’ve had great matches in the past one match where im sloppy wont knock me down to kelly , rosa , tamina and Kaitlyns level lol ” jk abt the naming divas part lol

Why are people making up excuses for Alicia? Aside from that weird crossbody Alicia didn’t even do that bad lmao wow. Most of you are so biased for everything. Beth, Kelly, and Natalya did fine. It was an entertaining match.
Also when is Kelly gonna learn how to run the ropes!!!!

@RR45: I honestly feel that Alicia is a different case. People can definitely make “excuses” for her because her body type is too different from the other Divas. Hence, people, especially those who are looking for the same fluidity in Victoria, Molly Holly, etc… will most likely not find that from Alicia. But that doesn’t mean that she’s terrible.
She was sloppy in this match; the cross body was awkward and there was a miscommunication during the time when she “struck” Beth to a corner (3:01 to 3:02.) But I honestly feel that she isn’t that bad.
We’re just not used to seeing her move the way she did because she’s been a heel (with slow grounded wrestling) for so long.

I don’t usually hit the comments much, but after seeing some of the debating going on, I thought I might drop in.
I stated that I was giving Alicia the benefit of doubt when it comes to her sloppiness in this match, due to the fact that she’s adjusting to an entirely new moveset. For now… I would do the same for ANY other diva.
If it continues in other matches, I’ll have no problem calling it like it is. Trust me, I’m not above calling out any Diva out on a sloppy match, regardless of how big a fan I am of them. Hell, if my grandmother had a sloppy match, I’d call her out on it. Lol.
While it may seem like excuses are being made for Alicia, we all know that babyface and heels have entirely different styles in the ring and after 3 years as a heel, I’m sure Alicia has some babyface rust to work off.
Anyhoo, that’s all I wanted to say. Carry on, everyone…

ALicia’s new moves are awesome for me. Yeah she may botch a ‘lil but it’s been finely executed. And I like that Kelly is not winning, because it’s more realistic, than before (winning every match and the opponent doesn’t seem to offense Kelly). so this match is good :)

I didn’t think Alicia’s moveset was awkward at all. There were a couple mis-communication parts with Beth, but it wasn’t that noticeable. The moveset was fast paced (something she’s always done and it fit a face much better), and I thought it looked pretty crisp overall. She even got a little reaction out of it too. And her rope running is flawless.
And I’m actually loving Kelly’s title reign. I don’t get why people are so hard on the girl. She plays the under-dog well, like Candice did. That’s why she should be in more matches with DOD, and not facing the Bellas every week with Eve.
But I don’t get the point in having Nikki pin her on RAW…
