Kana Defeats Serena to Become SMASH Divas Champion

The finals of the SMASH Divas Championship tournament took place in Japan earlier this morning, and Kana was crowned victorious after defeating America’s Serena Deeb.

SMASH is the promotion run by former WWE star Tajiri. Serena made her debut for the company earlier this year.

Congrats to Kana!

Both ladies will be in action for SHIMMER in Berwyn, IL on October 1st and 2nd. This will mark Kana’s US debut.

Considering this promotion IS in Japan, I have no problem with Kana winning the title, but both clearly deserve the honour either way. Maybe this can play as part of a storyline in SHIMMER prhaps? That would be very nice to see.

Well fortunately (or unfortunately) they didn’t have the breasts exposing stipulation from earlier lol.

Congratulations to Kana though, well deserved to be the first ‘Divas’ champion. Sort of owns the WWE Divas title already. Nice that Serena is doing so well too, though it was very unlikely she would win.

    Is Mio Shirai in SMASH?

    • Mikas

SMASH only has 2 women under contract:
      - Syuri (formerly known as Karate girl in HUSTLE)
      - Mokoto (came from Ice Ribbon recently)

They do have lots of regulars, but they are mostly freelancers: Mio Shirai, Kana, Serena Deeb, Tomoko Nakagawa and Ayumi Kurihara. And Lin Bairon is under contract with Ice Ribbon (as Ray).

Mio mostly appeared alongside Kana. With Io focusing on a solo career, are Mio and Kana still a tag?

Nobody knows yet. On 9/18 Triple Tails have their own show in Shin-Kiba. I’m sure they will make an announcement about their future on that show.

On 9/24 Kana has her own produced show in Kyoto, and both Shirai sisters are scheduled to appear, so who knows, maybe Triple Tails will just continue but less frequently.

In the meantime Kana and Ayumi Kurihara formed a new tagteam in WAVE, and just won the 1st round of WAVE’s tagteam tournament.

I love serena but I think the right call was made. The first champion should be a japan girl :)

I was really hoping Serena would have won.
