PWI Female 50 2011 Revealed

This year’s Pro Wrestling Illustrated Female 50 list has finally been revealed!

The magazine is due to go on sale later this month, but LordsofPain.net has obtained a copy.

Earlier this week, it was reported that SHIMMER Champion, Madison Eagles, had claimed the top spot, but now you can see who else scored big.

Speaking on the list, PWI revealed how they chose who to represent them with the main spot: “This year’s list was unlike any other in the four-year history of the Female 50. For one thing, there was no obvious frontrunner in either WWE or TNA. Last year’s number one, Michelle McCool, retired after a few lackluster months. The WWE Divas title dropped in prominence and was held for a significant amount of time by Brie Bella who, while improved, doesn’t exactly conjure thoughts of Sensational Sherri or Trish Stratus.”

“So we made a bold decision. We looked to the indies. Two possible candidates were SHIMMER champion Madison Eagles and WSU champion Mercedes Martinez. It was a difficult choice to make,” the magazine explains. “Fortunately for us, Martinez and Eagles faced off in March for Eagles’ SHIMMER title. Eagles managed to win a terrific match, which proved to be the deciding factor in our decision.”

“While being on WWE’s or TNA’s global platform helps your chances, it doesn’t mean you get a free passage onto the Female 50.”

Check out the list below:

Surprised McCool didn’t rank and Layla did- because Layla worked about as much as Michelle, and got hurt at the same time.

i actually agree with that! i remember being surprised i think two lists ago when melina was ranked and she’d been injured for like ten or nine of the twelve months :P

      September 10, 2011 at 5:40 am

Because McCool was ungrateful for being #1 last year.

        September 17, 2011 at 2:27 pm

        @VonVile
It was a kayfabe response. It’s well known WWE don’t like PWI because it acknowledges other wrestling companies. Lucky McCool replied at all. Miz didn’t.

There is, literally, no person on this list who, in kayfabe, Kaitlyn should go in over.

    No one.

She has done jack and squat. Winning NXT3 is not an accomplishment.

I’d put SDR slightly higher, but that’s it for the top 10. The rest of the list is as relevant as being nominated for an award.

Hold on Kaitlyn starred in many 3 minute tag matches. lol

      Seriously? Watch her matches.

        September 10, 2011 at 1:19 pm

3 minute matches in WWE big whoop. Clearly a super worker. If only she was in All Japan Women in the 90s.

No front runner from TNA well Madison and Mickie. But i CAN NOT disagree with who is #1 and #2. Im Happy Mickie is #3 but Madison should be #4.

I won’t be suprized if tna hires eagles and mm to put over angelina love and vel vel.

    kaitlyn is bad, seriously.

    • Dave Muscarella

      September 10, 2011 at 1:03 am

Kaitlyn has barely been in the business a year as well. I am sure if you watched tapes of Beth or Nattie or Mickie James after only 1 year in the business, it wouldnt be good either.

Only time will tell if she becomes anything worthwhile.

    • Kaitlyn1fan

      September 10, 2011 at 1:13 pm

No she is not, Kelly is bad.

      • Blonde Bombshell

        September 11, 2011 at 4:32 am

kelly can perform some moves, all kaitlyn does are headbutts and a side suplex.

surprised winter is so low compared to other knockouts, especially sarita (who let’s be honest, hasn’t done THAT much the last year). i also would’ve placed velvet a teeny bit higher and perhaps swapped around madison and mickie.

    • Williambitious

      September 10, 2011 at 2:39 am

I think Winter should be even lower.

      • Kaledrina

        September 10, 2011 at 4:03 am

        really? how come?

she’s a good enough wrestler, has been on tv most weeks, has had her own fair share of wins as well as character development, decent competition and at the time of the list being decided on was tag team champion. i think that’s pretty decent/on par with most of the top 10 :)

  7. Dave Muscarella

    September 10, 2011 at 1:01 am

While no one should take this list seriously (Madison Eagles joke!), its fun to talk about. Having so many indie workers on the list is good, if only, to get them more attention.

If you dont know who some of these women are, you need to do yourself a favor and go on Youtube and look them up. Madison Eagles, Serena Deeb, Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif, and Mercedes Martinez are all WWE caliber wrestlers.

I am happy its not filled with WWE & TNA girls honestly.

    • laqisha

      September 10, 2011 at 11:55 am

you know most ppl here on dd rather watch a model playing a wrestler…..oh hell when kharma debuted some of em were complaining.

  8. BillyGP

    September 10, 2011 at 1:40 am

PWI also explains how the “Female 50″ was determined: “To determin the list, we evaluated each woman’s innate wrestling ability, accomplishments during the past year, physical strength and conditioning, quality of opposition, charisma, and title success.”

  9. IronSheikFan

    September 10, 2011 at 1:54 am

Wasn’t Madison Eagles hurt for a while, I’m surprised she was number 1 when in the PWI 500 if you are hurt your ranking suffers. At least wrestling was considered in ranking number 1 this year;.

    • Dave Muscarella

      September 10, 2011 at 2:12 am

MsChif was hurt a lot too this year, but she is in the top 10 too. Even Madison Eagles was hurt for a while, she didnt miss much ring times. It helps SHIMMER only runs a couple weekends a year.

    September 10, 2011 at 2:58 am

What are you talking about Michelle had a great year. Fueding with Mickie , Melina , Beth , Natalya , Kelly Kellya nd Wrestlemania that seems like alot to me and she has has some killer matches also

    • BillyGP

      September 10, 2011 at 6:15 pm

McCool did not feud with Mickie this past year (Aug 2010 to Aug 2011)

    September 10, 2011 at 4:11 am

what hell what about brooke tessmacher some of the girls on the list have not held gold in years

    • Lu Pone

      September 10, 2011 at 4:42 am

Exactly! Because pro-wrestling championships are, in fact, real and they are won from real, non-simulated, unadulterated, blood spilling, head splitting and death defying combat.

  12. Lu Pone

    September 10, 2011 at 4:31 am

This list is CRAP! How can those talented, interesting, athletic, hard-working and generally GREAT wrestlers be on the top?! THIS IS THE PWI LIST! Kelly Kelly should be number one! And Kaitlyn should be number two! Those women on top can’t even do a crisp, solid, convincing and definitely LIFE threatening stinkface! OMG! This is a travesty!

    PWI, GO SHAVE YOUR BACK!

    • Dave Muscarella

      September 10, 2011 at 5:28 am

…was that a Jim Rome reference? Wow, I am not expecting that on diva-dirt. It makes a lot more sense for #34 though.

im glad winter got the 20. alicia should have got the 30 or 25 but im glad she made it anyway. and its looks like mickie james will always be one of the top 10

  17. MajidK

    September 10, 2011 at 9:15 am

This is BS. the list is on accomplishments then why isn’t layla in the top 10 she was in the main story lines up until june its not fair. I love beth but she returned late last year and didn’t win the championship but layla did so if beth made the list layla should even eve.

    • BillyGP

      September 10, 2011 at 6:17 pm

it not just based on accomplishments

  18. NY32986

    September 10, 2011 at 10:26 am

The only thing I think sucks is once again the PWI Female 50 doesn’t get it’s own magazine, I remember for the first one it was it’s own w/Beth and Kong and Angelina and someone else on the cover. This one Madison Eagles gets a little spot on the Top and gives the rest to CM Punk, Trips and Vince. Would rather have seen PWI Female 50 get it’s own edition (Like the 500) with Madison & Mercedes from SHIMMER 37 Cover on the front with some sort of headline to the affect of “2 that aren’t on TV that YOU MUST SEE” or something like that to play to them in the indies.

    September 10, 2011 at 12:33 pm

Forgive me if anyone has ommented on this, but I’m not suprised Michelle wasn’t in the list, as it was started in the top 500 male wrestlers, Edge didn’t make the list because he retired, as did McCool, in a sense.

    • ElectricMVx

      September 10, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Noticed that too. Maybe retired wrestlers don’t get counted. But it was still good that McCool was #1 last year anyway

    • BillyGP

      September 10, 2011 at 6:18 pm

like said she was ungrateful last year also

      September 10, 2011 at 3:25 pm

Yeah, i miss the old divadirt where people could discuss wrestling in a mature manner. There have always been a few trolls, but not as many as past few months.

I also noticed that whenever a troll disappears a new one suddenly appears the next day. I wouldnt be surprised if most of the trolls are actually the same person renaming itself.

        September 10, 2011 at 4:08 pm

  22. ElectricMVx

    September 10, 2011 at 3:04 pm

I’m not happy with some people’s comments about the list, using racist language and disgusting language because Eve or Kaitlyn aren’t #1 is just sad. Yes Eve was good this year and won the Divas title, but Madison, Mickie, Eagles & Mercedes have accomplished more.

Please grow up and stop looking for attention

    September 10, 2011 at 3:53 pm

It kinda angers be that Brie Bella ranks ahead of a lot of really good grapplers.

I don’t understand how if McCool isn’t on the list (after a few lackluster months) yet Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim and ODB are.. Just my opinion.

Also, If this is really based on just “the year that they’ve had” then why’s Gail there?

    • BillyGP

      September 10, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Could be she was ungrateful last year at being #1

Kayfabe Response. WWE doesn’t like PWI because it acknowledges other companies. Lucky she said anything at all… Miz didn’t!

I have to say I’m satisfied with this list. Although imo, Sarita should be in Winter’s place and vice-versa. Alicia should have been higher, and I think Kelly should have been in the twenties, rather than fifteen.

And I agree with everyone, I’m surprised Michelle didn’t rank!

    September 10, 2011 at 7:11 pm

you guys are suprized about mccool not making the list but yet no one is wondering why the hell JESSIE MCKAY is not here??? the girl is one of the most over in shimmer plus she beat sara del rey and challenged madison eagles for the shimmer’s title. tina san antonio is the most puzzeling.

    • BillyGP

      September 10, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Good point Jesse should be listed
