Trish Stratus Talks Divas Division, Tips Beth to Win at Night of Champions

WWE.com has an exclusive video interview with seven-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus that was filmed this past Tuesday when she attended the SmackDown taping in Toronto.

Trish is asked who she thinks will win at Night of Champions tomorrow night and says Beth Phoenix has her support. “I think it’s a good direction for the women’s division,” she says.

Matt Striker also asks Trish about the recent debate in the Divas division about beauty vs brawn, suggesting that many of the Divas think you can only be one of the two. Trish says: “I think every Diva embodies both of those characteristics. Just watching the Divas division as a whole makes me proud.”

in the pic above Matt looks hot hot hot….

but when he had his match on nxt this week I was very much disappointed

  • DIVAsupporter

    good interview actually…

to me.I’m a huge Kelly fan but I do want to see Beth be champ again…

so whoever wins I’d be ok with…

  • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

I think she was very diplomatic, unlike previous interviews where she tore her fellow Divas to shreds.

She makes alot of good points about pinupstrong & the Divas as a whole.

  • Mikas

“Just watching the Divas division as a whole makes me proud.”

The state the diva division is in right now is nothing to be proud of, unfortunately.

    • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

This is true but maybe Trish is proud of how hard they’re trying.

I remember when Trish started & she sucked but you could see how hard she was trying to make every move count & eventually the fans were into it. Look @ her match with Steph. Technically it was horrible but the emotion got you into it. I can see the same things in some of the new Divas too. They may not be the best, but you can see how hard they’re trying.

      • perceval

Yeah, the thing about the Trish-Steph match at No Way Out 2001 is the exec and fitness model put more work into that one match than the uberhyped Chyna put into all her 2001 matches, combined.

It was BETTER than anything Chyna was doing at that point because the exec and fitness model were busting their asses to give the fans their money’s worth, while Chyna was being lazy, demanding all her matches be quick squashes, and declaring that Austin and the Rock should be jobbed out to her because SHE was the biggest and most deserving star in the company.

    • Krazyvickay

Yeah well this is for WWE.com so she can’t exactly say the truth about the division.

      • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

She has before. Remember the interview after Ashley broke her leg & she came out & said the modern Divas sucked?

        • WWFoverWWE

she never said “sucked”, she just said that the newer girls needed more training because if they were trained, the broken legs wouldn’t happen

  • Krazyvickay

I wonder how Ivory who is a big supporter of womans wrestling feels. She definitely had no problems calling out the girls like torrie, stacy, sable.

    • Jhonmarco

In a shoot interview, not a wwe.com interview.

    • Jake

I don’t think Ivory ever liked the women’s division in WWE. Even when she was there from day one.

      • perceval

Ivory’s always spoken highly of Trish and Molly. Her issue was with the likes of Miss Kitty. And Chyna, of course, but that was mainly Chyna’s refusal to work to improve.

Keep in mind how Ivory, herself, started. She had no wrestling experience whatsoever when she was signed to GLOW in the late ’80s. She was given six weeks of training and put on national TV as the top babyface of the promotion. So, her issue isn’t how you start, but the work you put in to getting better and putting the best show for the fans that you can.

  • ajfan83

It’s a case of “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.” WWE let her show up to promote her yoga stuff, so she gives an interview praising the divas.

BTW, loved seeing Christian diss Trish on her obvious motives for being there. She didn’t even have a response. Hard to argue the truth, I guess. I’m sure Edge was just thrilled to be trying on yoga gloves during his final night on Smackdown.

I’m sure she’ll be back when Bail Enforcers 2 is in production. See you next year, Trish!

    • Jake

Lets be honest, Edge was there also to promote the episode of Haven which was coming on right after Smackdown. As pointed out by Cody Rhodes.

It’s not like we’ll never see him on WWE again.

    • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

I’m sure the guy promoting his TV show had a blast hanging out with his very good friend Trish Stratus.

      • Popo Amascual

Trish was trying to put Christian MORE over as a heel.

        • ajfan83

Christian calling her selfish didn’t sound heelish to me. It sounded like he was speaking on behalf of one of the writers or backstage agents. The fact that she didn’t even respond made his point sound even more legit.

At least Edge’s TV role is on the same network on Smackdown, so you can see the cross promotion. Trish is out for herself. Now she’ll just disappear for another six months until she’s got something else to plug. Yawn.

    • bluejay

I agree both WWE and her have a good relationship WWE uses Trish because she is reliable and she needs WWE to help plug her yoga stuff.

      • Popo Amascual

if Trish were to reply, Christian would’ve sounded like a joke..haha.. :)

        • Popo Amascual

i meaning to say that Christian was trying to garner cheap heat by taking a shot at Trish in Toronto..

        • Popo Amascual

          *i WAS meaning to say

        • bluejay

Her mic skills were never amazing just passable.

    • BillyGP

You again Trish was there for Egde it just wwe let her promote her stuff and why not? She did alot for the WWE.

      • BillyGP

        *Edge (typo)

        • ajfan83

If you got a problem with me then don’t respond, unless you got something more o say besides “why don’t you like Trish?”

Toronto doesn’t even respond to her anymore. And that’s supposed to be HER city. They see Trish for the phony, self-promoting woman she is. I don’t see what she really gives to WWE. No pop, no revenue, what’s the point? She might be a relatively big name in the Canadian fitness world (talk about a big fish/small pond), but quite frankly, she’s a has-been in the wrestling world. No matter how much diva sites might kiss her butt, the crowd reaction doesn’t lie.

And Popo Amascual, how WOULD she respond to Christian? He said she was only there to promote herself, while both she and Edge were wearing yoga gloves. Outside of calling him a CLB or something, I don’t see how she comes back from that.

      • Popo Amascual

then we differ on how we judge mic skills.. i, along with a lot of people, found her mic skills great..

        • bluejay

they were okay she sounded to fake in my opinion she had no range or dimension when she used to cut promos i like to hear women who talk with convicition like Ivory, Melina

Trish lacked conviction when she used to talk on the mic the only thing she had going for her was personality and a couple of insults.

        • Popo Amascual

BLUEJAY, again just like what you said.. “she sounded fake in my opinion”.. our opinions differ so there is no point discussing over this matter because no one will yield..haha.. i do find Ivory amazing on the mic as well.. :)

      • bluejay

As long as she does not squash divas I am fine with it.

        • Popo Amascual

this one, i gotta like..haha.. yeah, at least she didn’t..

    • BillyGP

Considering Christian and Trish are really friends he was playing the heel. There was a point when Christian was in TNA he was trying to get trish to come to TNA.

      • Popo Amascual

and it was crucial for Christian to get cheap heat because he, too, is from Canada.. meaning, he would be getting pops.. so i could understand why he would be saying that as a heel.

oh, and what makes our points valid, anyway.? did the “writers or backstage agents” tell you anything about their reaction towards Trish’s presence.?

as for my claim, i also am just speculating about it but unlike yours, mine is actually possible..haha..

        • Popo Amascual

AJFAN83, that’s the problem with you.. you easily put Trish down.. how sure are you that nothing creative would’ve been fired back at Christian’s comment.? maybe a reference to how she left him before saying, “i was damn right for choosing to go solo because leaving you made you go to Dixie Carter.. (just an example).. there are a lot of possibilities.. so many insults and so many words can be stringed together to make a fair rebuttal.. :) you just like to put her down that easily..hahaha..

and she got a reaction.. not like the ones she got before but that’s because she’s no longer on the main roster anymore.. :)

        • bluejay

LOL at not getting reaction well considering the praise she gets from WWE you would think fans would on their feet when she comes out.

When Bret was on Monday he got an amazing ovation and people chnating his name. That is a legend for you.

Trish does not get big pops anymore the only amazing pop she got was when came back in 2008. She had not pops back at Elimination Chamber 2011 i think the young crowd today does not know who she is.

        • WWFoverWWE

the whole segment was just christian being a hypocrite. he called trish selfish, then he goes on to blame edge for costing him the world title and then asking edge to get him another title shot. christian was the real one being selfish

I don’t see what big “advertising” trish is doing, she was just showing her gloves to her good friend edge. You act as if she got into the camera telling the crowd to head to her website and order her stuff. And anyway, it’s a persons decision whether they want to buy it or not

you’re a sad person AJFAN83, maybe instead of obsessing over people you don’t know, you should try doing something with your life, maybe get a hobby?? You don’t come across as smart, just a no life loser that sees what he wants to see

    • http://www.moxierave.tumblr.com Tory_

You’re so deeply bothered by Trish, it’s hilarious. I will never understand why someone will spend so much time being absolutely negative. Nothing better to do, I see.

But you know, Diva-dirt will write another news post about Trish, and you’ll do what you do best. Complain. Yawn.

      • Jhonmarco

You’re a joke, so trish has something to sell? And? She busted her ass for wwe for 7 years (very long for divas). She worked so hard, helped the divas division, and even came back to do TE. Her pops in Canada are huge, what are you talking about? O.o? In U.S they’ve gone down as her appearences have been more frequent, but don’t make stuff up. She’s phony? How? Because she left wwe to go on other things? She makes appearences, what’s the big deal?

    • perceval

You realize Christian was just playing the heel, right?

They were in her town, she was going to be backstage anyway, so why NOT put her on? Do remember that the rest of the world doesn’t share your bitter resentment towards someone continuing to be successful at life after they’ve retired from wrestling.

And WHY the bitter resentment? Why does any mention of the name “Trish Stratus” here put you in such a rage that you have to go on these tirades? I LIKE the fact that the most successful Diva they ever had, the Total Package that brought the Women’s Division to it’s highest level of popularity, a level of popularity that made the TNA Knockouts Division and Shimmer possible, that made women’s wresting marketable and a draw, is enjoying success outside of the ring, and is inspiring people to improve their lives and health.

Rather than making it embarrassing to admit you’re a wrestling fan (the antics of the Hardys, Angle, & Chyna, or the sad story of what Flair has become), she gives the business some very positive representation. She can’t come back full time because she just doesn’t HAVE the time to take away from her other activities of promoting health in mind, body, and spirit.

But, she promotes the business when she can (Taking her Championship belt with her when she’s doing those appearances promoting fitness for kids and telling them to be their best promotes WWE in the process), offers the Divas good advice, and, yeah, she promotes her own projects in the process. Both she and the company get good publicity out of it. Win win.

Why are you so opposed to someone making pro wrestlers look good, and serving as a positive inspiration?

  • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

of course trish cant say the division is just awful because who their pushing besides beth & nattie…but at least she wants whats good for the division aka beth as champ..

  • seasons-of-love

Well, she’s being very PC and neutral, but I suppose that’s to be expected given that we’re talking WWE.com.

  • ajfan83

God, this site blows. I get the same four people responding to me over and over again, all upset that I don’t like the “goddess” Trish. Face it, she’s a washed up diva that can’t even get adequate pops in her hometown anymore (her hosting Raw is a great example). She’s not a legend or icon. Just another in a long line of women that quit the company: Sable, Stacy, Lita, Chyna. And keep deluding yourselves that she’s some big celebrity. Chances are most people outside of Ontario have no clue who she is. Even Keibler, as Clooney’s latest girlfriend, is a bigger star.

I’m out of here. And please save the “good riddance” comments. That’s the only thing more predictable than the Trish love on this site.

    • Jhonmarco

I’ll say it then na,na,na,na, na, na, na, hey, hey,hey goodbye! Go troll some place else.

      • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

It’s so sad that you are so bitter that you can’t accept that Trish has moved onto new projects and didn’t end up on drugs or a hooker.

Trish IS a major Canadian player thanks to her exposure through legit media outlets. She was just in Vancouver promoting her DVD to a huge reception. She is loved in Canada. Stacy is famous for dating Clooney. The end.

Christian & Trish are friends. His comments were meant to make him look more heelish. He called Trish out for being “selfish” while trying to use Edge. Sorry you couldn’t get that.

    • WWFoverWWE

@AJFAN83 good riddance, don’t let the door hit your fake ego on the way out

    • litafan2000

      AJFAN83 you ar ridiculous!

    • Williambitious

      LOL! Oh God.

    • Krazyvickay

Wow that was a bit dramatic

  • Matthew

It’s refreshing to know that Trish is behind the Divas division.
She’s such a genuinely nice woman, and I’d love to see her a more permanent figure in the Divas division, possibly in a similar role to that of Karen Angle over on TNA? :)

  • dah-dah-dah-diva

I find it hilarious how people say Trish isn’t a Legend or an Icon. Are you fucking retarded or what? The Women’s Division has NEVER, EVER seen feuds like the one’s Trish has been involved with. How can some people be so blind and delusional?

No disrespect to Lita, but she was recovering from a neck injury when the likes of Trish, Victoria, Jazz, Molly and Jacqueline were building up and competing in the best and most physical Women’s Division in WWE/F history.

Even when Lita was an active competitor, women’s matches consisted of two minutes. Hair tosses, snapmeres, a dropkick here, maybe a flapjack there and then it was time for the finishing move. By the time Lita came back, Trish and her pears had already built a strong division that actually got a great amount of AIR TIME.

Who made that possible? TRISH! She was the perfect face. People always want to credit Jazz, Molly or Victoria for her work. But it takes TWO to tangle. Without these Diva’s being strong heels, Trish would be no where. But without Trish being a fan adored face that could put them over as these dominant characters, they wouldn’t be anywhere either!

    • perceval

Plus, Trish was adaptable, and could adjust to her opponent’s style. The reason all of Lita’s classics were with Trish was Molly, for all her technical skill, couldn’t adjust to work well with Lita’s spot oriented style.

Trish could adjust to do that with Lita, while doing great mat oriented matches with Molly and Jazz, hardcore matches with Victoria, and the mat & spot combos with Mickie..

  • bluejay

Trish is this and Trish is that people need to get off her back she is not some goddess of wrestling.

She is not the second coming of Michelle Kwan or Venus Williams she made impact in a fake sport that won’t be in any real prominent history books.

The only thing that helps Trish in the real word outside of wrestling was that she was a fitness model.

    • Jhonmarco

In a fake sport? If that’s how you feel why comment? Sheesh -_-

    • perceval

Wow. Such contempt for wrestling. Which raises the question: Why are you here if you have such disrespect for it?

  • perceval

    Since nobody’s mentioned this, yet…

Is this the first time the term “Pin-up Strong” has been used in an official WWE setting? Nice explanation she gave for it, too, about how it isn’t about Beauty vs Brawn, but being both.
