This Sunday at Vengeance, Divas Champion Beth Phoenix defends her title against Eve Torres. Leading up to the match, we’re going to take a look at other memorable matches at Vengeance and the various October PPV events.

The designated October PPV has changed its name often, from Taboo Tuesday to Cyber Sunday to Bragging Rights and finally to Vengeance. This rewind will look back at when the PPV was called Taboo Tuesday.

2004 | The first edition of the fan vote PPV known as Taboo Tuesday (later known as Cyber Sunday) introduced us to the Diva-demeaning matches known as “Fulfill Your Fantasy” battle royals. This match put Trish Stratus‘s Women’s Championship on the line, and fans voted to see the Divas compete in schoolgirl outfits. Joining in on the costume party were Gail Kim, Jazz, Molly Holly, Nidia, Stacy Keibler and Victoria:

  1. Oh dear. This brings back memories of when I got the DVD of Taboo Tuesday of that year and I couldn’t really comprehend what these girls were doing. I thought they had cool schoolgirl uniforms and asked my mom if I could wear one (I was young and we couldn’t speak English very well.) The look on her face was priceless.

I love how Molly was the one wearing the most appropriate costume, but still she was the only one wearing heels. Also props her for wrestling barefoot.

she used to in WCW as Mona.

Ohh that’s right, how could I forgot that D:

  3. Wow, what amazing memories this match brings back. Trish looks amazing as usual, along with the rest of those Divas. What I would give to be able to go back to the these days.

That was the era of the big girls, very much about muscle and conditioning. That gave them an advantage in what they could do compared to 108 lb Kelly Kelly (even though she’s as tall as these women were)…

    Trish: 135 lbs
    Molly: 140 bs
    Stacy: 136 lbs
    Jazz: 148 lbs
    Victoria: 155 lbs
    Nidia: 125 lbs
    Gail: 125 lbs

Lita, who was selling the pregnancy angle at the time, was also 135 lbs.

One reason we don’t see many of this type today is Stacy and maybe Gail are the only ones that Johnny Ace would have signed had he been in charge at the time, as they were the only ones that fit what he was looking for (looks like traditional models). Even Trish wouldn’t have made it, since she’s squat, broad shouldered, and so muscular. And Lita? Forget it, she didn’t have close to the look that Johnny Ace required.

    Jake Reply:

wow lol @ all of that

Pretty sure Gail was around 108 during 2004. All the current Divas are at those weights now.

Also Trish wouldn’t of made it due to those reasons? Please explain why Johnny signed Aksana and Kaitlyn then.

    Gail’s 125. Muscle mass means more pounds. That’s how 5′ 4″ Trish was 135.

And yes, Kelly is extremely light even by modern Diva standards, even if we leave Beth & Nattie out Eve’s 135 lbs. though 5′ 8″. Only AJ is lighter than Kelly, at 107, but that’s just a single pound and she’s three inches shorter than Kelly.

The NXT 5 are all recent additions, a counter to several years worth of Divas signed by Johnny Ace. Given that he scouted talent by flipping through swimsuit and lingerie catalogs, then calling the agent of whichever model caught his eye, PLUS his not wanting to sign any woman who didn’t look like a Playboy model, it’s safe to say recent changes weren’t his idea.

Notice the NXT 5 are throwbacks to the Golden Era. Kaitlyn and Aksana are Trish types, the first of that type to come up since before the Diva Search days (except for Nattie, who was signed because of who her family is). AJ is a travel sized Mickie James for when you’re on the go. .

I would love to know where you get your facts from lol.

You think Gail was 125 from 2004-2011? Wiki isn’t your friend.

    perceval Reply:

Again, Gail has some muscle on her. Keep in mind she wasn’t a swimsuit/lingerie model, so she wasn’t skin and bones going in. She was trained and conditioned to be a pro wrestler, period. Muscle adds to one’s weight.

You’re insisting Gail was almost 30 pounds lighter than Trish, who was 5′ 4″, same as Gail. Did they LOOK like there was a 30 pound weight difference, there?

Also, why would they bill her as that much heavier than she was? If anything, they would have billed her as LIGHTER than she was.

funny how Nidia, Jazz and Gail were the first divas out and they got released that week. this was also the start of divas only having to leave the ring instead of going over the top rope

I remember this.. this was the 1st year I started watching wwe and I was 12.. I actually wanted Victoria to win but got eliminated so I was hoping for Stacy (Again I was young)

I remember someone said that Molly was actually wearing a school girl outfit but in a different country ~ That’s what I remember

  6. Hey, this match brings back my memories about the good-ole divas.. Right now, we can’t see this kind of battle royal (and the “Fulfill fantasy” too)… By the way, Molly wore a grey skirt, hahaha lol in my country most of the high school uniforms are the combination of white shirt and grey skirt and grey trouser .__.

Oh lord this brings me back :’) pretty decent match. Heel Trish was amazing & compare this one to the 2005 one. Very different times.

Great memories. It just amazes me how good the women’s division used to be and how much the fans got behind it. Why can’t WWE see that people do care about women’s wrestling and want to see the divas succeed?

Vince needs to remember that it was the Moolah-Wendy feud that MADE the WWF and made pro wresting a pop culture phenomenon. The storyline leading to The Brawl To End It All brought the world’s attention to what was at the time the New York regional promotion, with all the international press coverage (Oh, and for those who complain about the company’s use of celebs, it was Cyndi Lauper that made it all possible).

As the feud progressed after that event, Hulk Hogan got involved and became a household name. The storyline and it’s spin offs led ultimately to the first Wrestlemania.

Vince needs to remember that he owes his empire to the Women’s Championship.

Wow I remember this match. I was pulling in for Trish, but I wouldn’t have minded if Stacy got the win either at that time, either. Good match.

We often talk about that lack of distinct looks and characters for the modern Divas. Nortice how, even when the classic group was wearing the same style, they all had distinct individual character bits in their outfits and entrances.

To think this match was the beginning of the end for the “Golden Divas’ Era” because I believe some time after this most of these women were replaced with the diva search girls. Also, I could swear Stacy was going to win this match match I mean they were building her up so much prior that it really seemed like a womens’ championship run was inevitable, but i guess someone changed the ending of this match at the last minute.

Stacy looked good when she was working with Molly or Trish, who could carry her. It’s my understanding that Stacy actually turned down a title run on the basis that she didn’t think she was good enough skill wise to carry it.

Of course, Trish and Lita had taken it upon themselves to build their own storyline over the previous five months, getting the big crowd reactions. So, Vince would have been a complete fool not to let them carry the ball, even if it made the two of them irreplacable. .

    kellytrishfan Reply:

Yeah. I heard rumors about that true. I don’t know if Stacy really did turn down a title run but I do know that WWE were high on her and the crowd loved her too. I wouldn’t of minded Stacy with the title back then. With the creative’s writing and female workers they had, she could of had a decent title reign.

    Envy Reply:

I heard about that one as well and wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. Stacy seems like the honest kind of woman who would do that. She had enough in-ring skill to warrant a Women’s title reign.

    wangzy Reply:

OMG, Stacey with a title run would be awesome…I know she deserves it and ALL of the divas in that ring deserve to be a Champ…all of them have the skills and talent…too bad it didn’t happen…

  12. This was great . I miss the good ol’ day :/

    That “match” was painful.

Trish Stratus was the epitome of mean girls. She perfected that character.

    Haha, so true.

Idk about you guys but I miss these type of matches. The bra and panties lingerie matches. But when it had real wrestling . Unlike these wack battle royals now. These girls made the specialty matches a match and entertaining

    Envy Reply:

Omg I’m glad I’m not the only one. If a Lingerie match or Bra and Panties match had actual wrestling in it, I enjoyed it.

  16. I miss these days! Stacy Keibler will always be one of my favourite Divas. She knew enough to pull off a wrestling match and was over big time – listen to the crowd cheer for her when it was down to the last 3.

  17. Man I miss Stacey so bad!! Lol She was so sexy hot and fun to love…the sexiest legs in WWE history!

trish looked hot as hell so did Tara!!! Tara looked like a school teacher and was Trish wearing her panties backwards??? lol NICE!!….Jazz Gail Kim n Nidia…i can see why they got let go..lmao jk man…jk
    Nidia n Kim looked good!

This was the start of the Diva BS Era…I like this as the man that I am..but gotta admit that it wasnt right..I mean comming from 2003 Hardcore matches Chicago Streetfight WRESTLEMANIA 03!! STEEL CAGE MATCHES TABLE MATCHES!…and now all these girls had to do THIS match lol..
