WWE.com Article: Update on AJ’s Injuries and Who’s To Blame?

WWE.com has posted a new article reviewing the Big Show/AJ incident on SmackDown and updating the fans on the extent of her injuries.

WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson is quoted as saying:

“AJ is pretty beat up, as you can imagine. She has head trauma, a cervical sprain/strain and also multiple contusions all over her body.”

Interesting to note is author Michael Burdick querying whether AJ will be the same person upon returning:

Still, no matter when the numerous physical injuries subside, is it possible that the emotional scars could run much deeper? An impact like the one AJ experienced would be a traumatic situation for anyone. With that in mind, could the sheer memory of it keep the spunky beauty out of action indefinitely? If she does return, will she be the same positive force inside the ring that she was before she was run over by the 441 pound behemoth?

The article  – readable here – also poses the question as to who exactly is to blame for her injuries: Big Show, Daniel Bryan or even AJ herself? It points out that General Manager Theodore Long could be in the wrong for allowing her at ringside to begin with. Who do you think is to blame for what happened? Let us know your thoughts.

To be really honest it would have been more realistic if Big show really ran into her by accident.. she just stood there and waited lol. I just think that segment could have gone much better and more planned out.

It would have been better if Daniel ran past Aj , and Aj look’d his way then as soon as she turned around to see where big show was BLAM!!!!!! but none the less i am loving aj in this whole thing #TeamAj

I’m actually a little sad about this because I think WWE may be turning her heel. Which brings me to the point that I think they did the segment perfectly for the storyline.
If you recall the segment that happened between DB, The Big Show, and Aj. At the end Daniel asks Aj how much does she love him, and then says that they sgould go somewhere and talk. Then this happens and it stead of her trying to get out of the way, she just stood there, which implies that it was planned by DB and she went along with it.

I don’t really think that it’s going to be a Heel turn for AJ. I see this as being similar to a Miss Elizabeth/Randy Savage or a Maria/Dolph Ziggler, or Kelly Kelly/Mike Knox type of pairing where a Face Diva is being manipulated and used by a Heel, in this case Daniel Bryan. We’ve seen in the past few weeks how calculating D-Bryan is. Look no further than this past Smackdown where we saw Bryan use AJ’s feelings and love for him as a tool to keep his title.

In that first segment where AJ professed her love to him, Bryan just stared and in a monotone voice said “Thanks, AJ”, and then his gaze shifted to the side as if the gears started spinning for a plan were being hatched. Then the next segment where he confronts AJ and questions her and asks her just how much does she REALLY love him, which prompted AJ to look at him in confusion. Then you had the match where Bryan got Big Show to chase him causing him to run into AJ and injure her. Bryan basically “killed two birds with one stone”, by using AJ in this manner he not only retained his title for another week, but he also crushed the Big Show’s spirit, as he was just completely devastated after realizing what he had just done to AJ. Seeing how cold and calculating he is and how he is manipulating and outmaneuvering everyone, like pieces on a chess board, he really reminds me of Triple H back in the old days(c. 2000-2001)

Having Bryan manipulate and use AJ’s love and feelings towards him for his own benefit(keeping the World Heavyweight Title) would go a long way in getting him over as a truly despised Top Heel.

Wow, I didn’t realize that falling down could be so traumatic!

If they really wanted to convincingly sell her being seriously injured, they should have done it differently. They could have had Daniel call AJ up onto the ring apron for some reason. Then Big Show could go for his knockout punch, and DB could jump out of the way and have AJ take it. It would have looked a lot more traumatic to see her sell the punch and go crashing to the floor.

    • Kessuki

hahahaha you tell it straight but doesnt pg mean the guys cant physically hit a woman?

  • Lily

All that was caused by one push that looked so unrealistic? Even the crowd was chanting ‘she’s okay’, the least they could have done was have her be hit in the back with a chair accidently.

    • NaomiNightfan2011

Do you REALLY think a PG WWE would even risk doing that?

  • lazberg

Just watched the segment again and there were a few ways they could have done it better to sell the injury. Still Aj stepped in front of the Show to save her man as per the earlier segment and did about as good a bump as she could given the circumstance. What I noticed was the ringside official rolling her over and then holding her neck. Bad fake paramedic, bad LoL

  • StraightEdgeGirl84

I’ve seen so many amazing bumps taken by women this one was lame imo. He simply bumped into her it’s not like he landed on her.

The query that the author is making is not about whether the incident will change AJ as a person. It appears as if the author is wondering what affect this accident will have on her in-ring career. WWE.com has promoted AJ as a “rising star” so the author is probably questioning if this injury could hamper her development and progression.

I still think it sounds way too melodramatic and exaggerated by a lot.

Yes she got hit “by mistake” or she stood there to get hit by cause after Daniel told her to do it(maybe a turn heel there as a couple) but “emotional scars that run much deeper”????

      Really?

Holy shamoly, everyone’s on the creative team here. Just go along with it. AJ got ran over by Big Show. It was an accident. She got hurt and is injured. Done deal. Not “they should’ve done it like this” or “she just waited for it”.

      Exactly!

  • WWFoverWWE

In TNA you have women wrestling men, but in WWE a woman dies if a man even touches her. Wow….

    • alexl467

      WWFoverWWE,

Maybe before Impact started airing on spike, but since then to my knowledge there hasn’t been a “really true” female vs. male wrestling match on TNA’s weekly televised show, meaning a bout where the competitors are allowed to go at each other full force and not have to pull back any punches. The female vs. male matches I’ve seen on impact the male wrestlers all seem to have been instructed to approach their bouts as if they were glorified no-name jobbers competing in very quick squash situations.

      • GetFoxy

there was the eric young and odb matches the last few weeks have had men hitting women and vice versa.

      • Jhonmarco

If there’s a company that showcases men vs. women it’s chikara.

    • http://twitter.com/Passionisma Thaila

I’m a HUUUUGE Stacy Keibler fan, but in one version of Scott Steiner vs. Test, she runs into Steiner – and I use the term “run” loosely – and she falls down as if she got knocked out with a baseball bat. I found that quite humorous.

    • TheGamergirl22

Oh yeah Beth needs better competition, I mean she got GTS’d by CM Punk and spine busted by Batista don’t see why she can’t fight men, if WWE had a cruiser weight division then that would be great for Beth and Nattie.

But if Aj got the knock out punch by Big show then it would be more believable.

  • WweLitafan4ever

AJ is pretty beat up, as you can imagine. She has head trauma, a cervical sprain/strain and also multiple contusions all over her body.”

im sorry, but i had to laught at that. they are really over exaggerating this. he barely touched her that the crowd was even chanting “shes ok.”
    wow..head trauma,neck strain/sprain,&bruises all caused by a tiny push.
the way the wwe is overexagerrating this makes it funny

    • http://www.twitter.com/xTeamK2 Blonde Bombshell

      I concur.

    • Goodvibes

THIS^the WWE really wants their diva’s to look weak.

      • gl83

“But, Hunter, we’re girls” -Beth Phoenix

  • Goodvibes

Wow whats the bet she’ll come out on a wheelchair and everything next week,

Lita was Powerbombed onto concrete by Eddie, Speared at ringside by Edge, Hit TEN TIMES with steel chair by Austin, Thrown off the top of a ladder through a table by Trish, and thrown off a stage by the Undertaker.

The Bigshow nudges AJ and she rolled backwards.

    • Raekon

Don’t forget Mae Young getting through a table over the ramp when she was 80 and in a wheelchair through a previous “injury”. :p

She didn’t came back and was “traumatized”, she came back and kicked ass! ^_^

      • Goodvibes

Amen to that, how could we forget Mae Young and some of the monster bumps she took for her age. God Bless that woman, she could teach these girls a thing or two about taking hits!

    • TheGamergirl22

Lita’s badass for taking all those bumps. Also Trish got powerbomed through table by Bubba Ray and chock slammed by Kane.

Also even Beth Phoenix got spine busted by Batista.

      • Goodvibes

Lita took more ‘spectacular’ bumps due to her involvement with male storylines, if you look at all the bumps listed above, all of them had to do with her being associated with the Hardy’s,

Trish was by far the best ‘bumper’, she literally put her body on the line even for the most simple clothesline, everyone looked devastating against her. Ill never forget her bump over the top rope face first into the mat where she literally lost her TEETH on impact, you could see them fly as soon as she hit the mat!

I will literally LOL if AJ comes out with a neckbrace this week,

  • Raekon

For the story progression it was good to use her.

That goes either towards Daniel to turn him to a credible heel or both of them turning to heels as a couple.

The bump could had been better and planned differently, but they went as pg and as safe as possible so it was ok and it served its purpose.

However, the article is overexaggerating by a lot and its way to melodramatic when it talks about emotional traumas and such.

Would it be a murder attempt or run/hit by a car or anything (heck, even been dragged into the darkness by Kane!) would be more traumatical but definately not this.

  • V1AHHHH

    A.J’s fall was so weak!

9 years ago Stacy Keibler was hit in the face with a Steel Chair by Jericho! That was believable!

    • Goodvibes

That was a ‘fake’ bump, Stacy stood behind the ringpost so there was no impact at all, If Stacy took that shot legit she would NOT be dating George Clooney right now.

      • V1AHHHH

        Yeah, thanks captain obvious…

But it looked like a significant injury. Not a stupid knock over.
