FCW Live Event Notes & Pictures from January 21st, 2012: Layla Appears, Britani Knight, Kaitlyn & More

Hiya everybody (insert “Hi, Dr. Nick” reply from you all) and welcome to another one of those rare FCW related segments that does not take place on television.

This weekend I attended another thrilling, chilling live event from the developmental territory, which featured some pretty stellar matches and a meet and greet with former WWE Women’s Champion, Layla, who was nothing short of awesome. She was easy to talk to and very great to meet, as she talked a little about how frightening her recent injury was and that she’s on the road to recovery. On top that, there was also an assortment of FCW Superstars and Divas around the arena to meet throughout the show as well.

But as always, there was also a match involving the Divas of FCW, which saw current reigning Queen and Divas Champion, Raquel Diaz team up with former Tough Enough standout, Sofia Cortez (Ivelisse Velez) as they took on the fan favorites Audrey Marie and SmackDown Diva, Kaitlyn. Not only that, but the special guest referee was none other than new signee, Saraya (Britani Knight), who was decked out in her finest stripes to officiate the contest.

Check out some highlights and pictures below:

* Danielle Moinet covered the announcing duties and did a great job. She would get a lot of “woos” from the crowd every time she entered the ring, which was pretty funny (especially considering the main event was a “no ring ropes” match so she pretended to enter through them anyways to get the reaction).

* Saraya made her way out from the back as the referee which immediately caused me to erupt in a round of applause in her presence.

* Raquel and Sofia entered to Angela Fong’s old music randomly, but they were full on heel during their entrance and looked great together.

* Kaitlyn and Audrey entered to “You Make the Rain Fall” I believe, which is of course the greatest song known to man.

* Before the bell sounded, Saraya hilariously checked all four girls for weapons, which included slapping Audrey on the bottom and irking Sofia when she did the same to her.

* The match was actually pretty awesome. I remember one spot where Audrey Marie did a matrix to dodge Raquel’s clothesline and then flipped herself backwards into a whirlybird headscissors (while in chaps… now that takes talent).

* Sofia and Raquel worked Audrey over for the most part, as the crowd kept getting behind the cow girl to tag in Kaitlyn.

* Once Kaitlyn got the tag in, she erupted all over the duo. Off the top of my head, I think of this one shoulder tackle she did that looked like a jet because she flew so fast. All of her moves were great and she looked really comfortable in the ring. She’s improved dramatically since her season of NXT and hopefully she gets some more matches on TV to show it off.

* The end came when Raquel hit a Thesz Press on Audrey to take both of them out of the equation and leave Kaitlyn and Sofia (who have insane chemistry together) alone. Kaitlyn lifted Sofia up into the air in an elevated full nelson type submission, but Sofia managed to roll through it into a victory roll for the three count.

* After the match, Raquel and Sofia ran up the ramp as the Divas Champion snapped at Danielle to not take so long bringing her crown and title next time.

* Overall, definitely a great show and time at the event. Anyone who lives in a Florida area (as they pretty much travel all over the state) should check one out whenever they can.

For your viewing pleasure, check out the following pictures that (match wise) can be credited to my friend, Casey because frankly I don’t want to kill anyone’s eyes trying to view the ones taken on my dinky camera haha:

Awesome!! All the divas look great!! Cant wait til they all get to the main roster!! Except Kaitlyn since shes already there!! Lol and cant wait til Layla returns to!!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/DivasManiaHD xILOVENATTIEx

Instead of getting called up to the main roster, the divas should want to get called down to fcw,

FCW > WWE in every way

    • http://twitter.com/BroskiRomano Ryan

NXT and FCW > Smackdown or RAW hahaha

      ur right on point! =D

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/DivasManiaHD xILOVENATTIEx

But in all serious all these girls are amazing, considering how long some of them have been wrestling, theres looks, attitude, I really hope WWE takes notice, they have a serious bunch of talented women down there

  • defineinsanity

Layla was there?! 1 word! ORGASM!

  • Jhonmarco

WWE please don’t screw these girls up, all already seem to have a distinct personality & I can definitely see Saraya’s charisma shining through just in photos! Absolutely love these girls, I guess these can be considered the next generation of talent?

    • French.One

They need bigger women for this generation to be a success.

      • Jhonmarco

They have Saraya, Tenille, Kharma, Raquel, Sofia, & Audrey (who’s improving) an already great division.

        • French.One

That s not what I meant, all these girls are around 60Kg (except Kharma but she is old) and not that tall. They need more women with the body shape of Melissa or Mercedes for example.

        • Jhonmarco

Oh, I actually hadn’t noticed that. I’m sure they’ll sign some bigger women eventually & despite Kharma’s age I can see them not caring especially since WWE is so behind her.

        • thejoshifanx

          Ayako Hamada is 145 pounds
          Hiroyo Matsumoto is 5’6″ 154
          Jessicka Havok is 5’10″, 160-170
Sara del Rey is 5’10″, 160

I’d love to see women like that in the WWE in addition to smaller women

        • thejoshifanx

I think Jessicka is 160 now she was 170 but lose some weight *

        • Raekon

          @French.One
Doesn’t Beth, Natalya, Kaitlyn and Tamina match the 60+kg? O_o
Didn’t checked though, just think that these 4 must be at that range.

        • French.One

They’re not really the next generation.

      • jonboi

are you for real? it seems to me that wwe are slowly getting rid of the division in favor of having 3min matches on NXT or superstars even this weeks superstars match is very short. So i dont think there going to bring in woman who can wrestle and are big built. We will be lucky if 3 of these woman make the main roster and even then there going to forget most things they learned in the ring at fcw because they will only use 2 or 3 moves. Its such a shame the wwe say they are against favritisim but i dont think so look at what there doing to the divas division just watch it going down the pan soon. It will be TNA and the indies WSU and the likes where the woman can be just as good or in alot of cases better than the men in wwe. Thats where were going to have to go and get great matches. I now look forward to TNA to see a good match that gets time

        • thejoshifanx

Yeah I don’t think having more than a couple “big” women is a good idea anyways. But if WWE wouldn’t get media backlash, the division would be gone. TNA is getting worse. The thing about indies is that taped shows don’t run often, they don’t show good matches for free, and some people don’t have money. That’s why we need a new wrestling company with a TV deal and a legitimate division.

  • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

cant wait till laylas back on my screen…thats prob kaitlyns best outfit plus im addicted to army clothes myself lol…

funny how all the girls at fcw have characters you can either hate or like but the main divas you dont have a reason to like or hate them….

  • shameronstar

Saraya really reminds me of Miranda Cosgroove!

  • thejoshifanx

I don’t mean to drool over female wrestlers but Ivelisse is one of the most stunning women I have ever seen O_O – yummy. Weird thing is, I usually don’t like blondes or Puerto Ricans.

I wish WWE would fire the models and continue hiring wrestlers. Jessicka Havok, Kalamity, Makoto, Sara del Rey, etc. could all do well in the WWE if given TV time and respect haha.

    • Jake

Or you could just watch SHIMMER.

      • thejoshifanx

Yeah, and the DVDs take months to come out, and there are only eight DVDs a year. That’s not a whole lot of wrestling not to mention I don’t have a lot of money to spend on wrestling

I like women’s wrestling and I hate how WWE is sexist towards women. They tell them not to outshine the men, they give them two minute matches, they hire models not wrestlers, they don’t give them enough TV time, the train the fans not to care, they have the women (and not the men) do photoshoots, and they call them divas. WWE could have a women’s division, and have attractive women who can wrestle as well as ones who can just wrestle, but they don’t care and it makes me angry, as I think that the largest professional wrestling company in the world should have a MUCH higher standard of women in their company haha.

        • Jhonmarco

You do know there’s a shitload of joshi matches on youtube right? Or there’s WSU dvds? Pro-Wrestling Eve? Femme Fatales? The day WWE has a roster of all female wrestlers is the day pigs fly. Sorry, but nothing is changing for a while. Youtube & indies are probably your best luck to watch women’s wrestling at its finest.

      • thejoshifanx

Well I do watch as much joshi as I can find but for the other stuff I can’t afford it :( I’d love to be able to buy those DVDs but money is scarce and I’d rather have food, clothing, internet.

Yeah, I’ve lost all hope with the mainstream women but it doesn’t mean I’m going to be happy about it.

        • thejoshifanx

Not to mention, there aren’t many events. SHIMMER and EVE run twice a year, FF and WSU run a few times a year. WWE is on every week, four shows, five including FCW, the least the could do is dedicate more time to women’s wrestling.

        • Jhonmarco

No one is saying be happy about it, but do something to try & change it support the wrestling you want. Don’t give WWE ratings if you feel they don’t deserve them & try & support companies you feel do deserve support.

        • Jhonmarco

WSU runs many times a year actually, this month they had a show. They’re having a show in March, the J-Cup show is in April, they ususally have on the road matches in April/May, they have another big show in June, another one in August, & November. That’s quite the bit of shows. Not to mention there are other companies like Shimmer that film 8 shows a year & despite only holding 2 tapings, it has the best women talent in the world. Not to mention joshi fans update youtube with newer joshi matches frequently, there’s plenty of material out there.

        • thejoshifanx

Yes, I watch WWE on a live stream (and don’t watch the women). I would be supporting those companies if I had money, but I’m a single woman by herself who is saving up all of her spare money to move and to become a wrestler. I only have money for wrestling DVDs every once in a while, and I spend that on SHIMMER because of the varied pool of talent (I buy some matches individually). For the joshi though, YouTube takes them down for the most part. I get to see SMASH and some JWP, but companies like WAVE are impossible to find.

    • Raekon

      @TheJoshiFanX
The main problem isn’t the so called “models”, the main problem is that no matter what background a girl has, they are shoved into the “be girly and don’t get too physical” line.

So even a jessica havok or sara del ray would have to tone down to that and the charm they are bringing on the table in the indies would get lost at the time they enter the current WWE in which they will have to exchange wrestling moves for hair pulling, trash talking and butt slapping. -.-

Several of the so called models have shown great talent, great potential and were better than several indies at the end of the day.

Best examples: Victoria, Trish, Mickie and I’m quite sure in the very near future if they get the chance also Kaitlyn and Brooke.

The athletic background of all these 3 had shown and they all made the effort to put it in good use.

Victoria, Mickie and Trish managed to be legends of the wrestling world and Kaitlyn and Brooke has shown us that if you have the passion, the talent, the athletisism and you are really putting effort to improve, that you can go long ways even with only one year or training.

      • thejoshifanx

Yeah I know that which is why I hate the WWE, I don’t think that women should have to be girly or not get physical. There are some WWE women better than women on the indys, but they’re nothing compared to the top talent in the indys and in Europe, Japan. It’s laughable. Women that have only wrestled for one year should not be on TV anyways. I don’t want these wrestlers to get signed to WWE the way it is now but I want the WWE to have a legitimate women’s wrestling division that they care about and then hire the women I’ve mentioned.

        • Raekon

Thats everything we all are longing for but unfortunately not getting as long as vince and john are running business there. :(

        • thejoshifanx

Yeah that’s why I’ve been saying that they need to let someone with a brain run the division :P

  • Raekon

All the girls look great and Kaitlyns submission on Sofia looks sick!
Love Kaitlyns new attire and I hope she will wear it more.

Raquel always reminds me of Michelle Rodriguez when I see her which is one of my favorite actresses! :)

My “little sweet mouse” Layla was there too! :D
Wish I was there to see and meet them all.

My biggest wish however would be to have the say over the divas division so I can give these girls the freedom to wrestle their heart out in appropriate matches in which being girly(unless its a gimmick) would be a NO GO but kicking butt and taking names a MUST!

    • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

<3 Michelle Rodriguez as well…shes one of those girls who looks tough & is tough & i like that…

      • Raekon

        Definately!
I love her in every movie I watched with her.
Was quite gutted when she died in Avatar after she saved everyone else. :)

She always gives her characters the little extra that makes them stand out even when she is in supporting roles.

        • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

yeah..shes the girl power in a guys movie lol…she stands out i think thats why..she’s so unique…

  • http://youtube.com/user/xblutoxic xblutoxic

i love raquel as the ‘dominant-diva’.

& britani looks flawless. she has the best look of all FCW divas; i hope she receives a push as soon as possible.

  • eyecon

Seeing Layla is always a good thing can’t wait for her return. Where was Caylee Turner 8 ( and can someone please get the referee some sun light ..lol

  • http://www.youtube.com/users/RingVixens Teri

LAYLA!!!! COME BACK TO ME, MY LOVE!!!!!

  • trishfan11

FCW definitely has been developing the divas in the right way. Right now, every FCW diva, except for Danielle (who hasn’t had a match yet, so its hard to tell), has been improving steadily. What WWE needs to do is send Kelly Kelly down to FCW so that she can learn to wrestle and clean up her act. Sadly, that won’t happen. Wish they would let Naomi wrestle already.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/DivasManiaHD xILOVENATTIEx

I Honestly see Kelly pulling a Maryse within the next few years, looking for projects outside of WWE.

  • mariah.

    Saraya <3

    That is all.

  • SherriShepherdWWE

on the 12th picture Danielle, doesnt look very pretty, wow,

However, anyways cant wait to see Britani and Sofia all on the main roster, it would be awesome

Also any word on when Tenille will debut and also, any word on if Erin ANgel, Aplha Female or if that Rachelle girl got any development deals from there try outs or anything!!

    • French.One

It’s said wwe don’t launch on the main roaster wreslter under 21 years old. So I guess we’ll have to wait 2 years for Saraya.

    • Anthony

I agree, Danielle really didn’t look that good at all.

  • LayTorres

When is Layla going to get her booty back in the ring? I mean she looks really fresh and healthy.

    • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

when she finishes her training down at fcw….

  • Joel

Anyone else think that WWE will ‘tan’ Britani’s skin?

    • WWFoverWWE

I don’t know if they will, but she should herself. Looking that white is unhealthy in my opinion.

      • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

a tan is unhealthy as well…spray tan is the way.,,

      • Jhonmarco

Just geniunely asking, how does it look unhealthy?

        • WWFoverWWE

It looks like you haven’t seen the sun in ages. Having a little color on your skin makes you look more presentable in my opinion.

        • thejoshifanx

Well some can’t tan. I burn and then go back to white.

        • French.One

Too much sunlight in your life is unhealthy, you can have skin problem later on.
Saraya is British and they don’t have much sun in their country.
If she would be like Sheamus (hair color ans skin type), I would say those type of person doesn’t tan a lot they usually get a “red” skin when they’re exposed to the sun.

        • Joel

I am British and we get pretty hot summers. I go to her hometown in the summer because family live there, and it’s not that bad. Not a lot of pale people up there either. I am tanned but I go to India every year and Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey other years.

  • WWFoverWWE

I only like Sofia and somewhat Britani, the rest of these girls do nothing for me.

    • thejoshifanx

Yeah, Sofia is the only “diva” that I care for. Well it’s two if you count Taya. The women are either horrible in the ring, not attractive, or boring, or some combination of the three. They should start looking towards the indys more.

      • Jhonmarco

Were you not the person who’s said looks don’t matter? What does being attractive have to do with anything?

        • thejoshifanx

No, I’m not saying that, but if they can’t wrestle and aren’t attractive, that makes their inability to wrestle worse. I’d rather have women who can’t go in the ring who are good looking to me than those that aren’t. Even though I’d rather have them be good wrestlers. Haha.

        • Jhonmarco

I don’t think either should make a difference tbh.

        • thejoshifanx

Well yes, I don’t think looks should matter to a certain extent. I think that for TV though to appeal to the audience that most of the women need to be at least somewhat attractive and can wrestle in addition to ones who can just wrestle. But with WWE, they aren’t going to have a legitimate division, and it’s obvious they’re just eye candy, so if they’re going to have it that way, I’m going to want women that I find attractive.

  • Caroline_Shea

Kaitlyn’s attire reminds me of a certain diva(; But seriously, I really do love that attire. I wish I could find this match on youtube </3

    • WWFoverWWE

      AJs’ attire?

      • Caroline_Shea

no Lita’s(: with the fish net over one arm.

    • thejoshifanx

It was a live event which means that it was not taped for TV. You’ll have to wait several weeks before they might have a rematch for FCW TV.

    • Bobby

I actually do think they taped the same match at the last TV Taping just without Saraya as the referee. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to the live event version for sure.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/DivasManiaHD xILOVENATTIEx

I think WWE needs to start from scratch with the divas, even if that means releasing a lot of the ones on TV, and as much as some of them are talented, they have been stale and boring for to long for anyone to take them seriously, and then bring up the fcw girls who can wrestle with PROPER characters

    • Kessuki

wow, the pics really are making me drool. Looking at these women theres so much that reminds me of the golden era of womens wrestling. I honestly believe vince will give his blessing to the creative team ideas regarding the womens division once kharma returns. hopefully some of the ladies are future endeavoured after WM and the talent from fcw is promoted to build the division around Kharma.

  • Mr.Snark

I really hope we get a Britani Knight vs Naomi match in FCW. It would be given the time to be something special and expose Naomi to someone with some skill.
