FCW Watch: Audrey Marie vs Raquel Diaz (FCW Divas Championship Match)

Hola, como estas? Sorry, that’s all the Spanish I know, but if you’re wondering why I’m opening this weeks FCW recap in another language, why it’s because this week’s Divas Championship match contains Latina Heat herself, Raquel Diaz! I know Audrey is included too, but I figured displaying that I know three words of Spanish was more impressive than opening with “Howdy y’all” no matter how much I like the southern cowgirl. Never the less, tonight is a big show for the females because the Divas Title is on the line. Will our sun tanned super woman, Audrey Marie emerge with her title still in tact? Or does Raquel’s Diva dominance begin tonight?

There’s only one way to find out…

We head to the ring, where the awesome Danielle Moinet announces to us that the following contest will be contested for the championship. Up first, the reigning and defending Queen of FCW, Raquel Diaz, as Latina Heat makes her way out looking like the fairy tale evil queen that I admire ever so much. Following her introduction is the upbeat and peppy reigning champion, Audrey Marie, who poses with her title for the adorning fans. Once the two remove their accessories, the bell sounds and we get things underway with a lock up.

Audrey takes the early advantage with a side headlock take over until Raquel gets back up to both feet. Marie transitions it into a back wrist lock, before moving into a full nelson. She spins the challenger around into a snapmare, as she charges off the ropes with a dropkick to the face for a near fall. Audrey returns to the side headlock, which allows Raquel to shove her off the ropes. The champion, in turn, uses her skill to come back with a running shoulder block, before flipping it over into a roll up for a one count. Raquel quickly shoves the champion backwards, as she runs forward with a clothesline attempt. Audrey proceeds to duck it with a matrix, which brings her to then flip herself backwards into an impressive spinning headscissors takedown!

Audrey goes to take advantage of the downed opponent, but Raquel sweeps her forward using her legs. Marie manages to stop herself from colliding into the second turnbuckle, which allows Raquel to kick her in the stomach and go for a roll up to ensure a one count. Diaz’s mean streak comes out at this point, as she proceeds to rake Audrey’s face along the ring rope and choke her out! She flips the Champion backwards for a two count, before taking the time to kick Audrey in the stomach and then jump on her face with a brutal boot. Diaz proceeds to lock in a choke hold, as the crowd starts to get behind the Champion in her come back.

Raquel starts to talk trash in Spanish, as she just dismantles Audrey Marie and continues the pressure. Audrey finally starts to fight out with some punches, and leaps off the second rope with a beautiful crossbody to Diaz… but Raquel manages to roll through! Only a two count though for the challenger. Diaz tries to go for a clothesline, but Audrey ducks and runs off the ropes with one of her own. She lands a bodyslam on Latina Heat, before following it up with a leg drop for a two count as Raquel kicks out. This brings the Champion to go for the Round-Up and end it, but Raquel counters it into the Gory Bomb! She NAILS IT! Diaz hooks the leg for the 1, 2, 3! Raquel Diaz wins the Divas Championship and begins her reign of terror amongst the Divas! After some celebrating, she grabs a microphone and proclaims that she told us all that her first step of taking over FCW is complete! She poses with her new title as we head to a break.

Also, briefly check out our General Manager, Maxine, as she is featured in the opening segment introducing the third annual FCW Grand Royale match:

Thoughts: I personally enjoyed this match. I think it’s both of their best showings to date. Raquel looked much better and more comfortable in the ring, and I thought she meshed well with Audrey. Speaking of which, Audrey definitely shined tonight. I’m glad she did the matrix headscissors on the televised show because it’s fun, innovative, and helps her stand out more, as does the running crossbody from the second rope. There were one or two moments where they seemed to get winded, but that’s what FCW is for; to help mend mistakes made. You can tell the two are truly working hard, and for me at least, they delivered in a fun showing. I’m looking forward to their eventual rematch and hope it can live up to this one, or even surpass it.

Not impressed with that match at all. The only portion worth watching was the Gory Bomb.

I think my expectations for new divas have been slightly ruined by Naomi, who was such a natural right out the gate and just got better and better. I think I expect that to be the case for each girl, but Raquel is just…not good. I think her heritage ties in with that; “A female Guerrero? She has wrestling in her DNA!!!” Not this girl. She’s more Vickie than Eddie. She’d make a great manager, but she’s just so uncoordinated and clumsy. Maybe with a lot of hard work she’ll get better, but she shouldn’t have the pressure of holding both the Diva’s title and the Crown. Of course I want her improve (who wouldn’t?) and I hope she does. I certainly hope she doesn’t get hot shot to the main roster, which initially I wanted before seeing her in the ring (simply for the storyline possibilities).

On the other hand, I see a lot of potential for Audrey. She’s also a little clumsy, but you can see she has natural athletism and her clumsiness is more out of inexperience. She really got thrown in at the deep end, but she’s rising to the occasion and is trying to better herself each time she gets in the ring. FCW is the place to do that, and I think she might surprise a few people when she gets to the main roster. She has a Mickie/Candice vibe to her, that you just want to will her on.

She needs to work on that whirlybird headscissors though. Terribly contrived!

    • Raekon

      Fully agree. :)

    • French.One

What in this match makes you say Raquel is not good ?

    • Bobby

I really do see what you mean about expectations being ruined by Naomi haha I relate that to everyone saying this diva or that diva will be the next “Trish” when they’re on the main roster because the girls in FCW kinda have to live up to the AJ/Naomi times which is hard for them because in all actuality, a year of training is not that much. I know Naomi was able to put on some awesome matches, but people pick things up at different levels.

Most independent wrestlers don’t even get their first match until at least 6 or 7 months have past judging from interviews. Maxine, for instance, really started to shine in ring wise this past year and she had been signed since about 2009 so it does take some time. I’d like to see Raquel or Audrey get to work singles matches with Saraya or Sofia Cortez because that’s really how they’re going to improve a lot.

I see what you’re saying but I personally see lots of potential in Raquel. I wouldn’t say there’s no hope for her I personally see her going really far in the WWE. I see shades of Maxine, Melina and Vickie in her and I could totally see her becoming quite the in-ring and out of ring performer.
What worries me is her moveset, she’s really small and she has moves like the Gory Bomb which I can’t see her pulling off on taller/heavier girls. I’d be impressed to see her pull that off on Kaitlyn, Beth or Natalya but I just don’t see it happening. I think she should start going more the Eddie route and being a submission girl. But I’m totally behind Raquel. I hope her run as top bitch in FCW sees her improve her moveset to the level of the class before her, AJ, Kaitlyn, Naomi, Maxine and Aksana – who really make me excited for the future of the WWE Divas.

      • DjayDay

Completely agree, with both of you. There is tons of potential in Raquel. She has a lot to live up to. It will take awhile before she can cut a promo like her mother, and longer till she can wrestle like her Dad. But personally, I think she can do it. I mean she has been under WWE contract since December 2010 but only stepped in a ring in January-Feb. 2011. She has literally under a year of in ring time. Like Bobby said, some people on the indies don’t get a match till 6-7 months into training. As for Audrey. I just cannot hate her. She is literally the cutest diva in FCW since AJ. I mean she has only been wrestling for a little over six months and has progressed insanely well from what she could have been. I think she will be awesome if she keeps at it.

  • Raekon

Even Raquel has great acting and mic skills, she unfortunately isn’t as talented in the ring.

She has been training for over a year and she has barely improved at all.

I guess she is either a very slow learner OR she just doesn’t have enough talent for the in ring work.

In that case it would be better to keep her as a manager/valet like her mother.

Maybe she would still surprise us in a year from now or even in a few months, don’t know.

However, till now she was only sloppy, slow and a poor executioner for the most part.

Audrey on the other hand has improved a lot and that in less time than Raquel.

That shows that the potential and talent for the in ring work is definately there.

    • French.One

      Audrey missed her leg drop.
At this point, I would consider them both almost at the same level (I think Raquel is better).
There is still a long way before being really convincing in the ring.

      • Raekon

After one year of training, she still has partially orientation problems in the ring and is quite sloppy and very slow for the most part

I love her charisma and attitude and love her acting and mic work but like JJ also said, she seems to be more like her mother than her father.

Where did Audrey miss her legdrop?
She did the scoop slam and connected with the legdrop exact on raquels neck after. I just rechecked.

She seems to be a faster learned then raquel though cause she is less time in training and has also no wrestling background or wrestling family roots and has already improved more than raquel.

Raquel shines in her matches mostly only through her finisher.

It’s true that they both need more training and who knows?
Maybe both will surprise us in a few months with pure awesomeness. :)

        We will see.

    • LayTorres

She is still young, giver her some time. She is just 20 years old. I am sure when the time passes by, she will gradually improve along the way.

The match was not that bad for me. They both did well. Congrats to Raquel. I hope Cameron beat her for the divas championship tho.

Audrey Marie Kinda Looks Joy Giovanni And Congrats To Raquel Winning The FCW Divas Championship

  • Jake

I love it when people believe that these girls should already be on the level of greatness. Raquel has only bean training for a year while Audrey only several months. You guys have very high exceptions when it comes to wrestling training.

Not everybody can be like the goddess Naomi.

    • JJ

Where has anyone said they should be great? I assume you’re referring to myself and Raekon (as we’re the ones who have criticised Raquel) but we both complimented her other skills, as well as Audrey in general.

  • eyecon

I actually could care less about Aubrey Marie but Raquel did a great job. I Once she gets a little more seasoned she’ll be ready for the call up

  • WWFoverWWE

I like Raquels’ look because it’s different, but I don’t think it was a smart move to give her the two titles when she’s still learning. Both these girl have improved and they show so much potential….so hopefully they don’t stop here.

  • DarknessRuler

    That match was………slow

I don’t know if it’s because they were tired or really didn’t plan out the match beforehand but they seem to struggle in keeping up.

I laughed when Raquel kicked out the Oklahoma Roll.

  • MattyM

People need to seriously need to quit judging this girl OK maybe she has to work a little bit harder to improve but you guys hold her up to such a high standard because of her family but if you look at it it hasn’t even been a year since she has even been signed let alone reported to FCW also maybe she just didn’t have any chemistry with Audrey

  • shameronstar

I always thought wrestlers had to trade great mic skills and personality to have great wrestling skills and vice versa. For example, When Madison Rayne first came to TNA her wrestling was better but her character and mic work was bland but when she became a great character with great mic skills her wrestling went down in quality and became relatively mediocre in comparison to when she first came to TNA.

Danielle needs to leave her voice is awful..she looks like shes 40 as well which wouldnt surprise me at all…

i dont get what people are saying about Raquel Audrey was clearly sloppy with her moves…they both at times looked lost as well….surprised Raquel can do the gory bomb thou…

  • Kessuki

i actually thought Audrey Marie was better in ring than Raquel. But seeing RD execute the gory bomb was a lovely surprise – i had no idea it was her finisher.

    • Raekon

she used it against aksana in their crown match aswell.

  • LayTorres

If Raquel ever gets called to the main roster….she should bring her father’s motto along with her. You know, become Latina Heat, “Lie, cheat, steal”.

  • sugarrush28

This was probably one of my least fave FCW Diva matches. I find that Audrey and Raquel both get tired quickly in longish matches and seem confused at times about what to do next. I think Raquel is alittle better than Audrey in ring wise so i’m glad that she won the title. Having said that they both have only been training about or year or alittle under that so they can become pretty good. I’m not counting them out yet.
