As we head into tomorrow’s 25th anniversary of the Royal Rumble, we take a look back at past Royal Rumble events.

1999 | In 1999, Chyna made history by winning the opportunity to compete in the Royal Rumble match. Not only that but she entered at the coveted #30 spot, giving her a distinct advantage over the competition. Chyna quickly made a beeline for Mark Henry, eliminating him from the Rumble, but was then taken out by Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Watch below:

2010 | 11 years following Chyna’s historic Rumble appearance, another powerful Diva would follow in her footsteps. This time it was Beth Phoenix who would enter the Rumble and have one hell of a moment when she managed to eliminate the giant Great Khali.

Who had the better Rumble moment? Tell us in the comments…

  1. Of course Chyna did for the simple fact that it was the 1st time a women competed in the Royal Rumble ! ^_^

I dont think any diva will enter the rumble tonight. I could say Tamina but she’s not really over yet but then again she can enter the rumble do her samoan drop , then hit her Splash Im sure the crowd would cheer for her there. Plus to like how she is getting this small push as it seems. Her entering the rumble will just make her look stronger and push her into a potential Divas Championship shot . So Im all for it Go Tamina 2012 Rumble.

They could have Natalya enter but that would only embarrass her for the 2nd time in one week , or they could go with the Divas Champion but that would be boring considering we all know she will get elimanted and had her chance 2 years ago. I believe its best they go with no divas this year…

Well, Someone did enter :) Kharma.

  2. maybe kharma appears in the royal rumble

    While carrying a baby..?

If she’s started the mood swings then she might win the whole thing

    ^ this.

    LMAO.

  3. It would be awesome if Chyna entered again but there’s no way she will. Beth is getting the Alex Riley treatment at the moment because apparently her and Punk broke up. Natalya farted on Smackdown. (nuff said) and the only other Diva worthy of being in the rumble is pregnant.

If there was a guaranteed Diva entrant this year (which there isn’t, this is just wishful thinking) my guess would be McCool because of her ‘taker connections.

By the way wasn’t there supposed to be a Divas battle royal in honor of the rumble? (I heard a rumor about it..) Maybe it’ll happen tonight. :D here’s hoping.

  4. Chyna was in the Rumble twice that year posted and the next eliminating Jericho they were both in the Rumble after there 3 way with Hardcore Holly (Pause) mentioning Chyna, Harcore and 3 way in the same sentence makes me think of other things and im not talking wrestling

  5. But Chyna appearance was more memorable Beth whole Khali elimination thing seemed to gimmicky and was just for entertainment Chyna was about business both times and at the time was so over you could believe she might of had a chance when we saw Beth we knew she was going to take out a guy then boom be gone

true but to be fair it was different times in the wwe, remember back then their divas were respected and seen in a more even playing field then the mans so obvisually Chyna’s run seems better.

  6. I liked beths moment better. I love how her & punk had their action and the way she eliminated khali, was rather clever lol.

There is one thing I need to ask though. In 2010 the wwe was already PG, right ? Meaning they avoid intergender type of action. How come beth got a chance to not only wrestle punk for a couple of second but get hit by the G2S. I dont mean to be the party pooper, but how does this happen but we cant have any intergender action now? Its not like Im begging for an intergender match (thought it’d be cool) but Its just a big contradiction.

    something WWE apparently does alot.

    It’s wwes hypocrisy.
Beth hit the glam slam on dolph and on punk in the houseshows 2011.

Eve hit her moonsault on the miz in 2011 in the houseshow and on cole in television.

It’s like saying, as long its behind the curtains(houseshow) and not on tv its ok.

    JJ Reply:

Really there’s nothing stopping WWE from having intergender interaction. PG doesn’t prevent WWE from having intergender wrestling; Smackdown has always been PG, even back when Chyna was wrestling men week in week out.

I’d say the more accurate reason they shy away from it these days is the scrutiny they’ve come under with Linda’s politics. They dont want to give anyone fuel to say, “They’re glorifying violence against women!” Something like Beths Royal Rumble appearance isn’t too bad as shes being presented pretty well; she kicks Punks ass for a bit and outsmarts a much more dominant opponent.

I’d love for WWE to have another female wrestler in the men’s division. Someone the same build and height as Chyna, equal to many of the men in the company. An equality fighter who says; “Why can’t I compete with the men? I’m just as tall, just as big, just as tough. Is it because I’m a woman?” Hard to argue with that.

@JJ “I’m just as tall, just as big, just as tough. Is it because I’m a woman?” Hard to argue with that.” Id actually like beth & tamina to wrestle the guys, beths 5’7 & taminas 5’9 i think they could pull it off….

  7. I prefer Chyna Royal rumble moment over Beth’s because chyna actually had a purpose to be in the match. Beth’s moment was for entertainment purposes only.

  8. Both moments were great for the fact that these women got the chance to enter at all.

Chynas moment stands out because she was the first ever and because she took out one of the heaviest and strongest males on the roster.

She took him out through her power and not through “kissing” like Beth with Khali.

The only good spots on Beths moment were the moves against punk and the g2s on her.

  9. I prefer chyna’s moment, but enjoyed Beth’s as well. Beth’s moment was the first time in forever that there was some intergender contact. in WWE. Also there are ONLY 4 matches on card tonight, so I am expecting a diva’s match out of nowhere, like the kelly and beth match at one of the last PPV.

    shameronstar Reply:

Will Beth clearly whisper “Are you okay?”, and “Roll up!” this time too?

  10. Beths is more memorable, i mean she eliminated Khali, got a kiss, clotheslined punk and got hit with a gts. She also lasted longer than Chyna!! i really hope beth gets in again this year. Doubt there will be any divas though. Praying for a divas rumble :) lol

  11. I love Chyna in the rumble!! I read Mick Foley’s first book and I remember him talking about the night of the rumble and him saying how Mark Henry threw a big fit backstage before the rumble because he didn’t want to get hit and eliminated by a woman. He said something along the lines of “aint gonna let no bitch hit me” LOL it is cool to know backstage stuff when watching the match!

    chrisP Reply:

Ahmed Johnson, not Mark Henry, is the guy that Foley said didn’t want to sell for Chyna. Johnson had matches with Triple H in 1997 when Chyna was H’s new bodyguard, and he’s the one who said that line about not letting “no bitch” hit him.

    _Bryan_ Reply:

Yeah, i think your right, because i remember it coming up a few times in interviews and chyna actually likes mark henry, plus she did a whole storyline with him…

  12. Maybe Tamina or Natalya Will Appear In The Royal Rumble Tonight But I Want Natalya To Be In It Because If She Eliminates At least One Or Two Guys She’ll Be Back In The Zone Even Though I Wanted Kharma To Be Apart Of The Royal Rumble If She Wasn’t Pregnant

  13. Both were great moments for women’s wrestling. I thought the way Beth eliminated The Great Khali was just brilliant. There’s no way a single person could eliminate Khali (unless you’re Super Cena) using her smarts by tricking him with a kiss and eliminating him is much more believable than her tossing him out of the ring with ease. It was fun seeing Chyna give it to Henry but the way she eliminated him was a little less convincing. Henry in every rumble he participated in always gets that spot where at least more than one person tries to eliminate him. A few kicks and a forearm shouldn’t be enough to make him just go limp and light as a feather. Still, great for the history making moment. I’m sure if Kharma is still around in a few years she’d make it in the rumble and would probably be the most succesful diva to ever participate.

  14. Listen to the POP that both of the women got when they went out there! Especially Beth’s, because it is rare that women get a reaction nowadays….

  15. chyna for me but i liked beths but beth should have just eliminated with her strength not kissing him which was done because wwe doesn’t want beth to look dominate…
look how long beth had to be down after the g2s like wtf she hadn’t taken any other moves yet shes out one move….i wish they had of let beth last longer…like 10 minutes of fighting the guys would have been awesome…

  16. Lets put it this way..
Chyna was the first woman to enter the royal rumble and out Mark henry then
Beth Phoenix entered as the second and took out The Great khali so based on this we can tell that the next woman to enter the royal rumble whenever that is will be taking out a relativity “Big dude”, so (Big show, Brodus, tyler reks, etc..) hope its Kharma….

  17. Chyna definetely……i mean, to get eliminated by stone cold would be like an honour in divas eyes these days.
