Knockouts Score Huge Ratings on Impact Wrestling, Blow Away Rest of the Show

The TNA Knockouts continued to prove their dominance over the Impact Wrestling ratings this past Thursday night, but this time the Knockouts completely blew the rest of the competition out of the water.

A 10-Knockout battle royal was easily the highest rated segment on the entire two-hour broadcast — by a wide margin, reports PWTorch.

The match which aired in Quarter 5 of the show (10-10.15pm) scored a 1.23 cable rating, increasing an impressive 18.3% over the previous segment in Quarter 4. That is more than double the average growth from Quarter 4 to Quarter 5 in 2011, which was 9.5%.

Impact Write-Up (February 16th, 2012): Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue; The Title May Be Gail’s, But Madison’s Coming For You!

In fact, the Knockouts action stopped this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling from becoming the lowest rated episode of 2012 thus far. Without the big number for the segment, the show’s average rating would’ve fallen below the 1.06 rating for last week’s episode of Impact which currently ranks as the least watched Impact of 2012 so far.

The Knockouts’ match maintained an easy lead over the second highest rated segment of the show — the closing quarter hour — which did a 1.11 even though it featured Super Bowl champion Brandon Jacobs.

Thursday’s Impact did a 1.02 rating in hour one and a 1.11 in hour two for an average of 1.06.

Pretty much the entire Knockouts roster was part of the segment. Participants in the battle royal included Angelina Love, Brooke Tessmacher, Madison Rayne, Mickie James, ODB, Rosita, Sarita, Tara, Velvet Sky and Winter. Knockouts Champion Gail Kim also appeared.

Thoughts: With ratings like this, TNA and Dixie Carter certainly ought to take more notice of their Knockouts and give them more opportunities. As we discussed on Diva Dirt Live last week, the company should think about taking a cue from MMA and put the women in a pay per view main event. After all, if their PPV buys are as low as they are rumored to be, what have they got to lose? If the women are the breadwinners, it’s time they started being treated like it.

I’m all for Women’s Wrestling however I’m not entirely sure they are watching for the wrestling. I mean TNA is on SpikeTV which is the male version of Oxygen. They have shows like MANswers and stuff like that. I mean really lol.

  • Cj2010

PPV main event? That’s pushing it way too far.

I’m game for knockouts somewhere in the future maineventing PPV’s, but definitely not now. They should make the knouckouts Mainevent-worthy, then move to PPVs.

But I will never see this happening to due the typical “it’s a man sport” excuse. I’m just gonna accept that women will only be in the main event managing, so TNA prove me wrong.

  • Jhonmarco

Oh, you go girls! Not shocking though, as these ladies have always proven to be one of TNA’s highlights. I’m all for main eventing a ppv, but right now they’re not even close to that level yet. They really need a red-hot feud for this to happen, there’s a lot of opitions for this. One thing that possibly spike ratings even higher is heel Mickie & heel Tara teaming up as psychopaths! Shit, I’d LOVE that.

    • GlamazonInTraining89

OMG that tag-team would B AMAZING

      • Jhonmarco

They need to get on that tag team, especially with Tara seemingly being on her way close to retirement.

    • Raekon

I LOVED psycho victoria and psycho mickie in wwe and would definately love to see them as the psycho tag team in tna for sure! :)

  • PsychoMickieJames

It STILL doesn’t surprise me that the knockouts did this. The knockouts need a pay raise.

    • josh101

they seriously do need a pay raise because they putting in all the work over there.

IF the girls were to main event PPVs, the matches would need to raise the bar several notches. The output has been decent, don’t get me wrong, but I wouldn’t call it outstanding. The Gail-Kong caliber could steal the show back in 2008, but I just can’t imagine Velvet Sky as a convincing main event PPV star based on her current in-ring work. A new ensemble of talent would be required for main event pedigree.

    ^THIS X100000!!!!!!!!!!!!

*clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap* I dont know ’bout PPV maineventing, these ladies need their own show!! Wonderful, marvelous, good job girls. Get these girls involved more. How about using knockouts in the main storylines with the male wrestlers?

  • WWEStarInTraining

    Wwe should take note

  • shannymac

TNA really does need to start giving the Knockouts a more central role. I don’t know if they’re ready (in terms of viewer interest and feuds) to main event right now, but they could certainly start building towards that. They needs to start giving the Knockouts PPV matches more build up and importance on the card, and see how that impacts buy-rates.

main eventing ppvs opens up a whole world of criticism.

i’m happy with how the knockouts are treated and i know a lot of other people are, too. why risk that just for the sake of being able to say ‘we main-evented’?

  • jen07201

Yaay knockouts really deserve this.I really hope that they create more storylines for the knockouts and my God can we please add value to the Knockout tag titles. I mean let’s put them on Mickie and Velvet and let them have a storyline feuding with other knockout tag teams. That would make us have more than the storyline for the knockouts and make the tag titles look important.

  • WWFoverWWE

Woohoo!!! Hopefully this opens more doors for the knockouts (more matches every week, more segments, more signings) because this is just incredible news.

  • shameronstar

    KNOCKOUTGASM!

  • mariah.

The Knockouts are EASILY the best thing about Impact Wrestling, so this comes as no surprise. Keep killing it ladies!

  • mariah.

I also wonder what the internet smarks are saying now? “Women don’t draw,” my ass.

  • bromero329

can anybody add gail to this picture? like in photoshop? id really love to have all the knockouts in a pic. can somebody do that ? and email it to me?????? please

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

      traci is missing, too ;)

  • VarsityBaseDude

I actually only watch for the Knockouts, so this is well deserved! Glad they are getting the recognition they deserve! Gail as a champ so far has been a huge success! Way to go! I do hope they push every single girls in some way though :).

  • Mickie-DT

All Knockouts deserve more air time, pay raise and their own show. Really. They’re proving everyone out there that wrestling is not just a man’s sport but a woman’s too.

  • Raekon

VERY happy for the ladies! :)
I hope they will get even more to do now.
About main eventing though, they will have to put really outstanding matches out there to be able to hold it cause when I see what austin aries, alex shelley among others delivering, I think the knockouts have ways to go to reach that high.
Still can be quite close if you consider some of mickie vs gail matches with outside action and stuff. :)

  • MNM4ever

CONGRATULATIONS! great work from the knockouts

  • Mikas

Usually their ratings are only 0.01 higher than the men, which is an insignificant number, but this time it’s 0.23 higher which is a huge increase. This brings them back to the Gail/Kong era where they were destroying the male ratings with a huge margin. Let’s hope TNA will learn from this (Bischoff promo scored 1.00).

Another Knockouts only episode of Impact please!! w/ indy stars

  • AJ Glee

“I dont know ’bout PPV maineventing, these ladies need their own show!!”
I’ve been thinking that as well. I think the show would be more suitable on a network like Oxygen; if Oxygen’s viewers are willing to watch girls fight for no reason (Bad Girls Club,) why wouldn’t they watch girls who fight for a living?

    • Lily

LOL that’s what i was literally thinking. Bad Girls Club gets about a 1.2-1.9 rating within every episode.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/ElectricMVx No Holds Barred

I don’t understand ratings, I mean, how does someone know to turn to TNA because the Knockouts are on? It always baffled me

    • Jhonmarco

      Maybe Twitter?

    • Mikas

      Zapping.
People zap through the channels, and if they see something they like they stick around for a while, until they get bored and move to the next channel.

Thats why segments with multiple commercial blocks usually have a somewhat lower quarter rating, people zapped away and didnt return within that same quarter.

Naturally people dont tune in to see the knockouts on a specific time to watch a match, because they dont know when the match begins. But for someone who zaps through channels, seeing a group of halfnaked women fight with eachother is usually a good reason to stay on the channel for a few minutes. That also explains why the ratings drop again after the knockout’s action has ended, those people have zapped away again.

    • KHARMA DESTRUCTION

That´s exactly what I was thinking, its so weird :S

  • DAFereldan91

Vince ol’ Mac, I hope you are seeing this.
