News in Brief: Marcela Regains CMLL World Women’s Title, Kana Wins DDT Iron Man Title, Matches Added to AIW Girls Night Out 6 & More

Diva Dirt is back with another fix of news, notes and tidbits in the world of women’s wrestling. Check it out below:

Marcela regained the CMLL World Women’s Championship from Ayumi Kurihara on March 9 in Mexico City. The match was fought under two out of three falls rules, with Ayumi taking the duke in the first fall, but Marcela winning the latter two.

Marcela’s previous reign started when she succeeded in defeating then-reigning champion Amapola in her thirteenth title shot in four years (Amapola won the title on November 16, 2007 and clocked in an impressive 1,442 days as champion) on October 28, 2011.  Sadly, she lost the title less than a month later on November 26 to Kurihara in Tokyo, Japan.

In other CMLL news, Princesa Blanca beat Lady Apache to retain her Mexican National Women’s Championship on March 6th. This match was changed this from a hair match to a title match.

On March 9, NWA LoneStar Women’s Champion Jen-Alise pinned Reyna Pink to retain the title at NWA Houston’s “Green with Envy” event in Cypress, TX.

On the same show, Mike Dell and Barbi Hayden def. Bolt Brady and Angel Blue.

Reby Sky defeated Spyra Andover and Brittney Savage (after Reby pinned Spyra) on March 9 for Pro Wrestling Syndicate in Rahway, NJ.

Shelly Martinez was the special guest referee for the match, while Angelina Love was the guest ring announcer. As expected with any guest anything, Spyra got into a shoving match with Martinez after the final bell, which lead to Love laying her out.

Maria Kanellis and Jillian Hall were announced for their May 4th event, also to be held in Rahway.

We’ve got results from Ice Ribbon’s 19 O’Clock Girls Pro Wrestling #108, held at the Warabi Dojo on March 9:

* Aoi Kizuki and Tsukushi def. Hikaru Shida and Sayaka Obihiro (15:16)
* 19 O’Clock Girl’s Tournament, Final Match: Kurumi def. Dorami Nagano (6:43) to win the tournament

As winner of the 19 O’Clock Girl’s Tournament, Kurumi will challenge Tsukushi for the IW19 championship on March 23. Kurumi has a very real chance of becoming a double champion, as not only will Kurumi challenge Tsukushi on March 23, she teams up with Manami Toyota on March 20 to take on Tsukushi and Tsukasa Fujimoto for their International Ribbon Tag Team Championships. Winning both titles would top off a banner few months for Kurumi.

In addition to that, we’ve got results from New Aisuhuro #373, held on March 10:

* Tsukasa Fujimoto def. Manami Katsu (8:33)
* Sayaka Obihiro def. Konaka = Pale One and Hikari Minami (8:35)
* Hikaru Shida def. Miyako Matsumoto (8:23)
* Tsukushi and Dorami Nagano def. Hiroyo Matsumoto and Kurumi (10:49)

Candice LeRae vs. Joey Ryan will take place on March 17 for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in Reseda, CA.

LeRae, whom has been wrestling inter-gender matches in California for years due to a lack of female wrestlers (the scene has since thrived with talent), is no stranger to being pitted against Ryan. The most recent time they wrestled each other was in an eight person mixed tag match at the end of January for PWG’s ‘Kurt Russellreunion 3’ in Los Angeles.

Tickets are available here.

Sara Del Rey vs. Kobald has been announced for the March 24th CHIKARA ‘Green Ice’ show in Vaughan, Ontario.

As we covered in the previous News in Brief post, the next night, Del Rey will take on Leah Von Dutch in Von Dutch’s debut for CHIKARA.

Canada’s ECCW presents a weekend of wrestling action on March 23 and 24.

March 23 at Surrey’s Bridgeview Hall will see Nicole Matthews challenge for Michael Sweetser’s Hardcore Championship.

There will also be a tag team match between Raven Lake and Mary Jane Payne vs. KC Spinelli and Sammy “Bambi” Hall.

On March 24, The Riot will defend their Tag Team Championships against The Administration. Matthews could very well end up being one of the members of The Riot that defends the titles, as she has previously done in the past.

The March 24 show will also feature the same female tag match as the night before.

Several matches have been added to AIW’s ‘Girls Night Out 6’ on April 15th.

In addition to the unsanctioned, no rules, Grudge Match between Mia Yim and Allysin Kay, fans will also see Jenny Rose vs. Hailey Hatred, Taeler Hendrix vs. Annie Social, and Veda Scott vs. Sara Del Rey.

Other names scheduled for the show are Cherry Bomb, Kimber Lee and ‘Crazy’ Mary Dobson.

AIW Women’s Champion Mickie Knuckles was also penciled in to appear on the show, but announced on her Facebook at the beginning of March that she was no longer accepting any more bookings. No word on why or whether she’s fulfilling previously accepted ones.
