Your Two Cents: Favorite Wrestling Weddings

“Your Two Cents” is our interactive feature where we gauge the opinions of our Twitter and Facebook followers on different discussions in women’s wrestling.

This week, we’re asking this: ODB and Eric Young’s recent nuptials have us wondering: what is your favorite wrestling wedding? We’ve read your responses on our social media pages and picked some of the best submissions to highlight here on the website. As always, you can join the debate by leaving your comments!

Our Two Cents

Batting for Team DD this week, it’s Erin giving us her personal opinion on this week’s topic:

Erin: I think, by default, all wrestling weddings are required to be hot messes in some shape or form (save maybe Liz/Macho Man). There’s been weddings performed in underwear, weddings in drive-thru chapels, heart attacks, etc. But I think the wedding that most encapsulates that “soap opera on crack” essence of a wrestling wedding is the one between Lita and Kane. It’s got the “married against her will” aspect, a pregnant bride, an evil “maid of honor” in the form of Trish Stratus and, to top it off, two fights that end with the groom carrying away the unwilling bride. It was like a Disney movie if you twisted it, made it trashy and let the villain win. That’s the recipe for a memorable wrestling wedding.

Your Two Cents

Bobby Wells | Miss Elizabeth and Macho Man! Two icons. They are no doubt the best wrestling couple to ever happen. RIP to both of them. They’re in heaven now smiling and together again.

——————–

Jack White | WHAT YOU GONNA SAY? It has to be Goldust and Aksana‘s wedding. I had elements of the golden, hints of Dashing, a smidgen of shovel-beating and a sick heel turn at the end!

——————–

@Jaffney_Quinn | I think that Stephanie McMahon and HHH’s weddings will forever be my favorite. Great start/ending to a great era.

——————–

Josue Guzman | The most entertaining wedding, in my eyes, was the wedding of Al Wilson and Dawn Marie. This wedding was the climax in the long and memorable feud between Dawn Marie and Torrie Wilson; a feud that was a career highlight for both women.

I remember tuning in to Smackdown every week to watch this soap opera storyline unfold. What started out as seduction soon evolved into forbidden love that caused a father and daughter to break apart. In a desperate attempt to save her father from Dawn’s clutches, Torrie agrees to spend one night with Dawn, only to discover that the wedding was still going to take place. When the night of the wedding arrives, Dawn decides to make this wedding no ordinary but a semi-nude wedding! With no objections from anyone, Al and Dawn became man and wife and went off to their honeymoon.

Sadly this honeymoon would be the last time these two spent together as Al passed away. In his honor, Al’s widow had a public viewing, that his daughter Torrie attended. Harsh words are exchanged and soon these words would turn in to blows. Step-Mother and Step-Mother would then meet in the ring at Royal Rumble.

——————–

Laura Alberts | Kane and Lita‘s by far. In an almost unpredictable way, I thought Lita was going to be “saved” by her former beau, Matt Hardy, from the ruthless Kane’s grasp, but to no avail, Kane ultimately threw Hardy off the stage, and thus turned Lita’s world upside down. And plus, we all got to see Lita’s rival, Trish Stratus, in a white lingerie piece, delivering one hell of a heel promo on the fiery redhead. It’s definitely one of my favorite “weddings” of all time, bar none!

——————–

Wil Mcerlean | Colonel Robert Parker and Sister (Sensational) Sherri, mainly because Sherri and Madusa got into it.

And now we turn it over to you…

What are your two cents on the debate? What is your favorite wrestling wedding? Tell us in the comments…

  • Jake

    Billy and Chuck

That shit was so dramatic and didn’t it get some mainstream attention?

  • Jhonmarco

    Lita’s wedding.

I marked out for Trish. <3

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

There were no lesbian weddings so none of them appeal to me lol

  • WweLitafan4ever

    Lita and Edge’s wedding
Vickie and Edge’s wedding-best part was when HHH came out.

  • http://www.twitter.com/jillianhalltna JillianHallTNA

Kristal’s wedding was the best cause that was funniest one!
My Jillian came there and started to SING!!! xD

  • http://twitter.com/Passionisma Thaila

Miss Elizabeth and Macho Man all the way.

  • No Holds Barred

Kristal’s wedding, lol Jillian comin out and singing then Candice and Mickie taking her out

  • Taylor

Lita’s wedding with Kane has to be my favorite simply because a wicked Trish brought out the best in everybody. :)

  • numero47

Triple H speaking in a high pitch voice for Staphanie is too funny! Lol

  • vincent

Lita and Kane’s wedding. Trish Stratus took the female heel character to a whole new level. She was brilliant in the role she was playing and it really laid out the groundwork for the feud between her and Lita. I love heel Trish…she’s amazing!

  • StraightEdgeGirl84

I personally liked Lita and Edge’s wedding best.

  • TheSexiestOfTheSexy;)

I loved the two weddings Lita was in:her and Kane and her and Edge.In her wedding with Kane,it was so believable,I felt bad for her that she had to marry him.And Trish just being an uber bitch?Classic! It made me hate her,but like her for it as well. And her wedding with Edge was good too.Loved how Kane came from under the ring.

  • shannymac

My favorite wrestling wedding was Stephanie and Test, with HHH’s epic interruption. I remember watching it with my mom and both of us dying of laughter.

  • WWFoverWWE

Kane and Lita for me. Trish saying she doesn’t believe in sex before marriage while wearing almost nothing was hilarious.

Not many people realize this but while Lita was married to kane, that made Undertaker her brother-in-law lol.

  • SigmaX

    Easily Stephanie and Test.

It had the most epic twist to any wedding and it lead to an awesome era and had an epic conclusion to top it all off.

Went through all the motions from that wedding and everything about it beginning to end and in between was memorable.

Close second would be Teddy and Kristals wedding just because of the epic interruption of the HOOOOOOO TRAIN!…*makes choo choo noises*

  • Kessuki

this was difficult to decide but i opted for the macho man and miss elizabeth wedding. it was one of the weddings wwe has done best without it coming across all gimmicky albeit its dated but its still classy with two icons that should be HOF’ers.

my runner up choice would be lita and kane because i was a lita fan and disliked trish but watching back, trish’s acting was award worthy and owned that wedding segment.

i would also like to admit i loved the dawn marie and al wilson wedding. dawn marie is my fave diva with little wrestling exp.

  • numero47

Besides ODB & the Jarretts wedding, were there any other TNA weddings?

  • JJ

I can’t believe nobody mentioned Billy and Chuck’s wedding!!! LOL With me being a gay man that will be the wedding I immediately default to for obvious reasons. Although if I remember correctly they ended up not getting married in the end?!?! I just remember when the whole storyline was going on and I was actually very excited because for the first time WWE was showcasing a gay tag team and wedding on national television and I remember it getting alot of mainstream media attn. I would love for there to be more gay characters in wrestling however at the same time I feel it wouldn’t go over well. I know we have had Orlando Jordan but personally I was more offended by his character than I was a fan of it.

  • Simply Flawless

I seriously can’t believe Kristal and Teddy’s wedding isn’t here. That was hilarious, it was a fully fledged wedding episode … WWE weddings don’t get bigger!

  • JJ

The Scooby-Doo-esque mask reveal in Billy/Chucks wedding will never be topped for me. That was completely out of the blue, and hats off to everyone involved (including the makeup artists!).

It did get mainstream attention, but not the good kind. WWE told GLAAD the wedding went off without a hitch, blatantly lying seeing as both men revealed they weren’t gay. GLAAD even sent a gravy boat as a present!

  • numero47

Well technically the Al and Dawn wedding did feature a lesbian segment lol

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

Well LGB people have never been portrayed positively in WWE sadly, I hope someday that can change

  • numero47

Given that we’re still in the PG era of WWE, I highly doubt we’ll see any such moments anyway.

  • Poison_Ivory

Vince and Linda are too conservative for anything like that to happen
-______-’ Especially if Linda goes into politics again.

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

I don’t see how a TV rating has anything do with it. If there are heterosexual things on TV, there can be homosexual ones too, the only thing different is the gender of the people.

Yeah, the whole conservative thing…. it’s okay for grown men in underwear to beat each other up, dive off of ladders, etc. but not to kiss each other! Sad. I know that if I had a promotion, it would be LGB friendly :P.

  • JJ

LGBT characters have never been portrayed correctly in wrestling period. Not just WWE at least not to my knowledge anyway. I have seen gayesque characters since I started watching wrestling back in the 80′s but have never seen a true credible gay character other than Orlando Jordan and I was more offended by his character than I was a fan of it. Billy and Chuck were very close to being cool gay characters but in the end WWE totally crapped out on the storyline. Of course don’t even get me started on the whole HLA thing during Bischoff’s run as GM for Raw. That was so offensive IMO as well.

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

by things I mean storylines, angles, weddings, etc

  • No Holds Barred

beating up a man and kissing a man are two completely different things..

  • Poison_Ivory

@LBTHEWRESTLINGNERD I know, the WWE is the leading promotion here ffs, they should be paving the way for future contenders, not to be afraid of showing any kind of progressiveness. At least TNA had Orlando Jordan, even though that was soooo stereotypical. Which, in wrestling business, is really typical.

  • numero47

Well the change from the “TV14″ rating to the “PG” rating implies that that the program is more “Family Friendly”.
Family Friendly meaning it is “safer” for kids to watch. Which may be the reason as to why there is less swearing, less violence, no Divas featuring in Playboy etc.
WWE’s coreaudience, in this Era, are children and women where as in the Attitude era it was mainly adult men.

  • Jhonmarco

Wrestling & kissing are two different things.

So would the same apply for women?

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

@ No Holds Barred & Jhonmarco

I know that they’re two different things, I’m just saying it’s sad that while grown men beating each other up is okay, any type of homosexual story, angle, etc is not.
And I’m talking about women and men in these type of angles, i just used men for the example. (The only time women have been featured is in slutty stories and roles)

    @ Numero47
Yeah, anything homosexual is safe for children to watch. If they can do heterosexual angles, they can do same sex ones too.

  • numero47

    I agree!
I’m sure kids these days are aware of the LGBT groups anyway and there are a lot of worse things on TV than homosexual relationships.
What I’m suggesting, from a business point of view, is that WWE may NOT want to take that risk of featuring same sex angles and lose some of their fan base, though they may gain a new one in the process.

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

It’s LGB, T has nothing to do with sexual orientation.
Well, of course there are things worse, because there’s nothing wrong with it.
Yeah, sadly, some WWE fans are unintelligent but if you would stop watching a show because of an angle like that, then you don’t even deserve television :P
Someday I think it’ll happen! I think we’d have a full African-American WWE Champion before that though >_> (WWE is both homophobic and racist sadly).

  • numero47

Well I said LGBT because I was addressing the group as a whole but since we are only discussing sexual orientation, maybe I should’ve left out T.
Again I agree with you, there really isn’t anything wrong with it either because as you pointed out, the only difference is gender.
In my opinion, there will always be some group who oppose it however more people have come to accept and support it than they did before.
The only way I could really see a an open WWE Champion is through their “Be a Star” program. Of they ever hire an open wrestler to the roster and they become champion they could talk about what it took to get there and how despite the bullying they endured throughout their life they became champion. (I don’t see it happening in this lifetime tho)
Racism is a whole other issue

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

It is a separate issue, but in the US, homophobia is worse and more prevalent.

I’d love to see an openly lesbian or gay wrestler on the WWE roster, especially one being a champion!

  • Marshy

Before Barrack Obama took the White House in 2008 that The Rock was the first WWF Heavyweight Champion who also came from both Racial Hertiages,so at least you have half. WWE has had several chances to have a lesbian wedding as their storyline and this is way before Linda has decided to take the Senator seat of Connecticut. With the LGB and to leave out the T that it leaves out a group of people who wants to fit in among the gay community and you look at Remembering Our Dead website that you will see on how many of T members have suffered at the hands of the culprit who thought that they were going out with a woman when it turns out to be another man in women clothes, when the results are most of the time are totally tragic, just because the guy doesn’t want anyone including his buds, his birth family, his co-workers,his wife, and his children to know that he was out with a Transgender.

  • numero47

Though racism may still exist in some parts of the U.S, I think it’s fair to say that many barriers have been broken. I see the same happening for the LGB community in the future.
I second the idea of having an open wrestler/champion!

  • No Holds Barred

WWE are racist? lol how?? Just because there are more American wrestlers than any other race? Well the Mexican promotions have more Mexican wrestlers, does that make them racist? Japanese promotions have more Japanese wrestlers, does that make them racist?

  • redsandman99

While it would be good to see two men or two women on a wrestling show have a wedding, I don’t really think WWE is the right company to handle it. Not with Vince McMahon at least running the show. I don’t see how he would have it done with any kind of taste whatsoever.

  • Marshy

Well Chris Canyon could have been the first openly wrestler in WWE only he would had stayed. Isn’t Pat Patterson gay? WWE has had Jacqueline who was the very first African-American woman winning WWF at the time Women Championship title,Bull Nakano was the first Japanese woman to ever held the same title but a different look to it,Layla is the very first Moroccan to ever held both titles and Melina is the very first Latina to ever wore both titles.

  • lbthewrestlingnerd

    @ MARSHY

Sexual orientation and “gender identity” are two separate things. And people should disclose their “gender identity” immediately when dating someone.

    @ NUMERO347
Well I might be the first out lesbian wrestler someday but I don’t want to wrestle for WWE :P

    @ NOHOLDSBARRED
WWE has never had a full African-American champion and they portray a lot of characters stereotypically- black thug, Asian martial arts master & other stereotypes, Hispanic thug, etc

    @ REDSANDMAN99
Yeah, the best I could hope for sometime in the somewhat near future is a relationship story.

    @ MARSHY
Well, I’m saying there has never been a wrestler that’s out as gay while still wrestling for WWE. And as far as racism, WWE hasn’t let a full African-American man become WWE champion (no full Asian either I believe, but I definitely think that could happen)

  • Jake

“WWE hasn’t let a full African-American man become WWE champion”

    Ron Simmons..

  • Taylor

Agreed! She was simply phenomenal in her heel role. Although I am partial to Trish, both ladies played heels very well.

  • No Holds Barred

and Kristal falling down the steps LOL

  • The K@rmic HeeL

I marked out for both. Lita and Edge was awesome too, though it kind of dragged. The whole Hardy prank was pretty cool, I mean…that was brilliant actually. And Lita and Edge’es faces were priceless! “Gotcha!”
