Emmy-Winning Actor Talks About His Experience at WWE, Addresses WWE’s Divas

Emmy award winning actor Sean Hayes, who appeared on Raw recently to promote new movie The Three Stooges, was interviewed on Conan last night and talked about his experience with WWE.

Hayes, who is best known for his role as Jack McFarland on Will & Grace, also addressed the Divas, saying that he thought the women’s match was “hilarious”. Hayes further joked about the segment, describing what appears to be a stinkface and the reaction from male fans in the audience.

Well…that’s the WWE Women’s (DIVAS) division for you. A joke.

    • Poison_Ivory

Yea, hilarious.. That’s what it’s supposed to be..

  • http://facebook.com/mykael.kennedy mykel1990

    Damn, spot on.

  • moogle

    This infuriates me.

I can see what he means by the divas division, really I can. But calling it “hilarious” is annoying since he clearly can’t have watched any matches not involving Kelly or Bellas since they’re the only stink facers on the roster that I can think of.

But he’s so disrespectful about the entire company, which is disappointing since I’ve actually always liked this man….

    • vincent

He actually ranted about this on his twitter after that god-awful appearance. He has a lot of animosities towards the WWE for how they were treated. Seriously, what did he expect?

  • StraightEdgeGirl84

I don’t find him to be disrespectful honestly he’s allowed how he feels. Clearly he doesn’t watch it so he can’t really come from the same place as a fan. He’s not the first person who when after seeing these divas for the first time thought well they are pretty but I don’t buy them as wrestlers. To be honest if my first foray into women’s wrestling was one girl rubbing her ass in another’s face I would think oh it’s comedy porn. When you do moves like that you can’t be offended when you aren’t taken seriously.

    • CW

      AMEN.

  • javiousmckenzie

Im not mad at him for his comments no one takes the divas serious i mean hell even VInce nor the company does the matches on GLOOW were more serious than what we get these days no one takes the women serious anymore

  • shaky209

Yes this guy hasn’t the faintest Idea as to what respect .And this show and has been goingon for 28 years and he think’s this stuff doesn’t deserve respect.Well I was going to check out the movey the Three Stooges but now I wouldn’t go across the street even if it was free.Just because there segement bombed andhe and other two workers new it.

  • javiousmckenzie

Well you all can get mad at him all you want when Chelsea Handler made comments way more offensive everyone wanted to laugh and say she was just being Chelsea he was just being him and giving his opinion and if your not a fan and you see this for the 1st time your going to be like wth is this booty shaking in someone face like smfh

    • vincent

Chelsea’s comments were way different. She was clueless, and even made that clear.

This guy is making a joke out of it because of how he was treated at the live event. If he was cheered, I guarantee you he would be kissing their ass.

      • javiousmckenzie

Chelsea was not clueless there was no way she never heard of women wrestling i know grandmothers who know about women wrestling him being cheered has nothing to do with it anyone with common sense would find a women shaking her butt in a women face and calling it wrestling would find that hilarious

        • Poison_Ivory

Of course Chelsea had heard of women wrestling, who hasn’t, but just never had watched it. At least any serious matches

        • vincent

Like I said before, he ranted about how the wwe fans treated him after their segment. He’s not speaking as a person who was warmly welcomed. He’s pissed, so it’s only right for him to make himself feel better by trashing the WWE.

I’m guessing the movie studio paid for the segment. Which entitles him to some extent…but if it was the other way around, and they were the ones getting paid…yea, what a douche.

        • javiousmckenzie

Well and like i said any person who sees a women shaking her butt in another women face on a supposed pg show with 7 yr olds in the audience would find it so contradicting that its funny

  • No Holds Barred

Funnier than Will and Grace anyway.

    • Poison_Ivory

Only thing funny in WAG was Karen lol

      • No Holds Barred

        yeah I agree.

        • Raekon

loved will and grace back then! ^_^

  • StraightEdgeGirl84

He clearly doesn’t watch wrestling so he’s not going to know of anything about it. Why are people getting so pissy he has a right to his opinion based on his experience. No one else was backstage so you can’t say how he or the WWE behaved.

  • mariah.

Why are people even bothered? The Three Stooges bombed at the box office anyways *files nails*

    • Kessuki

      *files nails* hahahahaharrrr <333

  • Melina&Mickie4ever!

but they are a joke ?

  • Jhonmarco

Tell me something I don’t know.

  • vincent

It’s funny because David Otunga is dating Jennifer Hudson who co-stars with Sean in the movie. Here he is mocking not just the Divas but the entire business. Wonder what he thinks of it?

  • Mikas

He represents 95% of all americans who never watch wrestling or just dont care about it. I find his comments rather tame compared to what other celebrities have said about wrestling in the past.

And this was probably his first exposure to womens wrestling, so when he sees that stinkface he probably thinks thats normal in wrestling. So people should cut him some slack. It’s just his opion, based on what he saw.

    • WWFoverWWE

He made a joke about it because what he saw was a JOKE. If the women were actually ass kicking and taking names, then they would actually command respect. Sadly those days are behind us.

    • Raekon

Agree with both of you guys.

    • norisclouds

Agreed. I don’t know why people are surprised or offended. As for Chelsea Handler, anyone who laughed off her comments and said it was OK getting upset over this now needs to have their priorities checked. They are both comedians outside of wrestling who are entitled to crap all over the product if they like. If they perceive it to be a joke, that’s their right, and quite frankly the WWE divas division has done nothing that would make either of them think otherwise. It’s not as if he went to a match in 2002 and watched Victoria vs Trish in a street fight, or watched a cage match with Lita. He saw people acting like porn stars in a wrestling ring.

  • WWFoverWWE

It’s hard to argue with him because it is true.

    • Melina&Mickie4ever!

      Lmao!This ^

  • Jake

His comments really don’t make him look good. He is talking about how horrible WWE is but yet he guest stared on it. What does that say about him and his career? lol

  • StraightEdgeGirl84

His career is fine he has a production company with several hit shows on air, does broadway and has a popular show in syndication. The movie company could have easily worked out having them promote on the show. Will Sasso is also a huge wrestling fan and has done things with WWE for years.

I doubt Jennifer Hudson cares if Sean doesn’t like wrestling because she reportedly doesn’t either. I’m sure she would much rather Otunga used his law degree instead of oiling up and wrestling.

    • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

Hudson & Otunga have both said in interviews that she is very supportive of him trying to live his dream, as she gave up an okay “safe” Job to audition for AI.

  • shannymac

He has no room to talk since his main claim to fame is playing an awful gay stereotype on a horrible tv show. He should just be happy WWE is giving him the time to promote his shitfest of a movie that no one is going to see.

    • Mikas

That ‘horrible’ tv show won 16 Emmies and drew ratings 3 times as high as RAW does. It also broke barriers for the Gay community, despite some stereotypes. Wether you like his comments or not, he isnt some D-list nobody.

      • norisclouds

^This. People trying to discredit his opinion because they don’t like his tv show, character he played, or what he does with his career…come on. You’re doing the same thing as him.

      • No Holds Barred

well, all those shows get high ratings.. doesn’t make them good, look at 2 and a half men

  • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

surely the people mad at him for his comments should be deflecting their anger to wwe ‘cos, let’s face it, that is how they represent their women?

i’m just glad i grew up in a time/discovered women’s wrestling in wwe when they were actually allowed to.. ya know, wrestle. =/

  • javiousmckenzie

Its funny how diva fans can say the same thing but when others speak it they get mad

  • Raekon

Well here we go once again.
    Honestly? He is right!
If Kelly would had used a more proper move and the women in overall would had been not as restricted in their movesets as they are, he wouldn’t say he saw a woman rubbing her butt on the face of a other one, he would say a women kicked butt and took names in the ring.

So instead of hilarious he would had said awesome but when he sees a stinkface then its normal to say hilarious instead.
Most of all since he is right about the little boys watching with wide opened eyes when it comes to such moves.

    • Jhonmarco

Are you serious? It wouldn’t have mattered if she used a German Suplex the girls getting 20 second matches is still a joke. Sorry, but no Kelly’s stinkface is not the reason girls are restircted it’s management’s fault. Try again.

      • Raekon

        @JohnMarco
PLEASE read properly before you reply such things.
I NEVER said that the divas are getting restrictions in their movesets because of kelly.

Just pointed out that the reason he said what he said was because he saw the stinkface so his reaction goes indeed to kellys account because of this particular move.

I think we can agree that if he had saw her do the neckbreaker or something else athletic he wouldn’t react that way.

Even though he rather meant it was hilarious from the comedic aspect instead of a insult towards the women, it was because he saw “a woman rubbing her butt into the face of a other one”.

        • Jhonmarco

And doing a neckbreaker would’ve changed the time limit? Didn’t think so. It’d a joke, no matter what they move they hit. SDR can’t even have a good 20 second match.

        • norisclouds

I have to say I’ve seen Natalya do more wrestling in 30 seconds than I’ve seen most other women do on the roster in 2 minutes…so it’s not the time limit. I’ve seen it said before on a wrestling show I watch–but you don’t need a long time to put on a good match. It’s not like their diva predecessors didn’t start off getting 2 minutes but showed they could do more in 2 and eventually put on GOOD wrestling matches, not good for women, not good for divas, but actual good matches. (Credit to Lance Storm for commenting on this)

        • Jhonmarco

Difference being that they’re not even getting 2 minutes, but rather 20 seconds. It doesn’t matter what you do in those 20 seconds, it’ll still be a joke. At least in 2 minutes you can show the crowd somewhat of what you have.

        • Raekon

          @JohnMarco
The time restrictions have NOTHING to do with his reaction NOR do they have anything to do with the movesets.

Are there movesets restrictions in place for the divas? YES

It has still nothing to do with this particular move and the Neckbreaker if you wanna go that way, would definately bring up a different reaction and point of view with it then the stinkface.

That’s no matter if you wanna admit it or not.
I’m not bashing kelly as a person or a performed in this, I just hate the move which she clearly loves to do (she even said it in a interview).

I’m sure that if this actor would had been in TNA and would had seen the same move through Brooke Tessmacher, the same reaction would had came into place.

        • Jhonmarco

Nope. A match that lasts under 30 seconds is a joke. No matter what move is done. That’s what I’m saying. I doubt if a neckbreaker was performed it would have changed his opinion. He’s not a casual fan so he won’t care what move is done or anything like that.

    • Jake

I honestly don’t think Sean Hayes would give a damn if Kelly did this instead of that. He just isn’t a fan of it in general. He didn’t rave about the other wrestling that was on the show. If he only saw Santino or Foley pull a sock out of their crotch and stick into another man’s mouth, I’m sure he would have the same opinion as he has for the women.

The only thing I don’t understand is why did he agree to do it? It’s not like he needed the money and they could of just had Will Sasso there. It’s not like they need all the cast members to host before.

At least he apologize on Twitter.

  • Anthony

I mean he spent half the time with Santino. The United States Champion who uses an arm sleeve as a finisher…

  • http://twitter.com/Passionisma Thaila

Good on him for expressing his opinion even though I don’t agree with it. However, I wish people would stop dissing the Stinkface. It’s not like she uses it as a finisher. It’s just a fun thing to add to a match and if it adds some sex appeal to it, so be it.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

I woulndn’t mind the stinkface, if she used it in SOME not all of her matches. Still not the reason to blame the move, or kelly for that matter, about the state of the divas division. Like jhonmarco said, kelly could do a german suples, shinning wizard, any amazing move in the book, but it still WONT change the fact that these girls are given 20 seconds & they are indeed treated as a joke.

But anyways, I’d like to take him back down memory lane. You know, show him some matches.

    • Raekon

He saw this particular move and found it hilarious because of the nature of the move.

If Kelly as the top face uses such moves, people from the outside that see it, are basing the whole division on it sometimes.

Most of all if they are persons that don’t in particular care about wrestling or don’t know much about the divas division.

If she would had done a shining wizard or a german suplex as you are saying, he definately wouldn’t had called the moves “hilarious”.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

Trust me, he would’ve. The dude doesn’t even watch wrestling. To me, his opinion is completly irrelevant. Why ? Well, because the dude knows shit about wrestling, for one. And his a joke hisself.

I seriously wouldn’t be calling anything a joke, if I were him. And watch the video again, he even made fun of the guys. Thats what this dude is. He makes everything a joke.

I wouldn’t take his “hilarious” comments to the head. If he did watch kellys match, he would’ve noticed she actually did wrestling moves ( i.e. bulldog, head scissors, ect ) Why did he decide to pick that particular move, the stinkface? He’s just a joke.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

          he is a joke himself*****

        • Jhonmarco

          Willy<3 miss you :*(

But yes I miss you all <3.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

I was in vacation, so I decided to leave my town & go have some fun in NY. But I guess I understand. I dont really want to be part of the whole thing that happened cuz you’re all cool with me.

But we miss you too :). We can keep in touch on twitter.

        • Jhonmarco

Definitely! Just a shame, I was looking foward to RV, but oh well shit happens.

That’s one thing, I told you, Megumi, & others I don’t want you guys to feel the need to choose a side. Just do you :)

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

          True that!

And Yeah. Thats what I’ll do :)

        • Jhonmarco

        • Jhonmarco

          **made

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

          Yeah. I probably would :)

        • No Holds Barred

haha you guys just having your own little MSN chat there. what’s RV?

        • Jhonmarco

Haha, RV which is Rinvixens.com by the way is a messege board for women’s wrestling fans. You can discuss things from WWE to TNA to the indies or even general chat about things like music, celebs, etc. You just more else have to make sure you don’t rub certain members the wrong way & present your opinions in a proper way (which judging by your comments, you do). Myself having a negative experience there should know. Hopefully yours is better.

        • No Holds Barred

Hm, dunno, I don’t like going onto sites with a negative atmosphere, I’ll stick to DD and EWN :D

        • Jhonmarco

Well I do have a forum in the works that’ll be nothing but positive!

          Would you join? :p

  • norisclouds

Sad but true. If this is the impression a casual fan would get…well that sums up what you look like in the ring. A joke =/

    • lbthewrestlingnerd

Yeah, one of the reasons I get so upset with WWE over the way they treat women’s wrestling is because they influence what a lot of wrestling fans think. Some fan might see the divas and dismiss SHIMMER because of it.
