Today in History: Beth and Michelle Get an “Extreme Makeover”

On this day in history:

April 25th, 2010 | At Extreme Rules 2010, Michelle McCool defended her Women’s Championship against Beth Phoenix in what was dubbed an “Extreme Makeover” match. This called for them to use makeup and various household products as foreign objects, which kind of made it resemble a “Mid-Century Housewives” match instead. Regardless, Beth didn’t need an ironing board or a broom to seal up the victory, hitting Michelle with a regular old Glam Slam before pinning her and claiming the Women’s Title.

Listen to the crowd when Beth Phoenix won!

When i first watched the match.. I was kinda disappointed.. But after a few times.. I enjoyed it.. Beth got a huge pop

This was SUCH a ridiculous stipulation.. Not only did the “makeover” part have nothing to do with the actual match nor feud, but mops? Buckets? Ironing boards? Oh right, because they’re women! Typical WWE -____-

But I did like the working itself, and Beth winning. This was also the point where I started actually liking and respecting Michelle.

I wouldn’t go that far – most of LayCool’s feud with Beth was about ‘Manazon isn’t a diva.’ The makeover idea was pretty central to the feud, but the feud itself was stereotypical high school mean girls because they’re women, yes. x]

The whole storyline was that Beth was manly… and they put lipstick on her face before Extreme Rules.

and don’t they have ironing boards, brooms and mops in all street fights?

Trish and Victoria’s street fight at Survivor Series had an ironing board and a broom in it. Tori and Ivory’s hardcore match on Raw for the women’s title had an actual iron in it (though the way that was used was sick). While yes I think they should have been able to use more traditional weapons, the fact that that was in the match at all isn’t too terribly surprising.

Yes, this was the time I also started respecting Michelle’s wrestling ability aswell, before this I was always one of the SheIsOnlyATopDivaBecauseOfWhoSheIsDating people.

This is why Beth is one of the best in-ring worker on the roster, along with Nattie, Michelle and Layla. I am so proud to consider myself as one of the Glamafans and I wish Beth for her speedy recovery from ankle injury.

Want to see another one with Eve vs Layla that would be epic, and Eve would be like” whose flawless now b!@#”

good ol days!!! i miss the divas division back in 2009/10! i miss laycool together! i miss beth as face, its hard to believe how much the divas division has changed! from great storylines and long matches to 30 sec matches! really?

but i enjoyed this match, it was something different, both michelle and beth worked well together and i wish we saw more of their action, too bad michelle left.
i was happy when beth won, she got a great reaction.

One of my favorite Diva matches of this era. It was as extreme as Divas could get. I like how the table and iron board were being used.

Wow I forgot how good this match was. I loved Vickie & LayCool’s feuds with Mickie James and Beth Phoenix when they were on SmackDown.
