Knockouts Champion Gail Kim has officially broken the record for single longest Knockouts Championship reign.
Marking 190 days as champion today, Gail surpasses Madison Rayne‘s 188 day reign to take the crown for single longest title reign.
Kim returned to TNA after three years in WWE last October, quickly winning the Knockouts Title in her very first pay per view match at November’s Turning Point pay per view, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Awesome Kong — Kharma in WWE — still holds the record for longest reigning champion in history; her two title reigns rank at a combined 347 days. Madison Rayne comes second, logging 299 days as champion over three title reigns. Kim now ranks third with 275 days as champion between her first title reign in 2007 and her current reign.
Kim was of course the very first Knockouts Champion.
In hindsight, it seems quitting WWE and returning to TNA was the right choice indeed.
Do you think Gail can break Kharma’s record?

i have a feeling WWE will make sure that Kharma has the longest run with the Divas’ title

I think that Kharma would be just like Chyna. I think that she is going to win the United States / Tag Team / Intercontinental Championship one or two times.

Gail’s reign will end when Melina comes. Yesterday broke lot rumors that TNA is very interested in bringing John Morrison and Melina.

yes o my god i freaked out when i saw that! I really Miss Melina…and i hope she does sign with TNA…yeah it will push others to the back but Melina deserves it. I really don’t think all of the nasty rumors are true, and that is mostly why people hate her but i just love her. And we need a new KO’s “champ ASAP and i really hope Melina is it (don’t hate me..lol)

But doesn’t Melina still have some issues with Brooke..? Just thinking that since TNA seems to value pushing ex-Divas more ATM than their “own” girls, Brooke could end up getting the boot. Which I WILL NOT want to see. That girl has some serious talent.

O i would LOVE to see Angelina get the tittle again but TNA doesn’t seem to want to.
And no i don’t think they have heat anymore. Pretty sure that was a rumor with the “Furry Boots”

Of course she did. After all, she’s all about teamwork and wrestling spirit and the comraderie of women and people like her would NEVER show up in a company and make it all about her and leave the other hardworking women behind like big bad WWE does!
Oh wait, yes she does.
This has been the most ridiculously booked reign IMO. Challenger lines up, Gail kicks their ass, no follow up. Former champ gets rematch 6 months later, gets dirty pinned, no follow up, rookie takes her to the limit, gets dirty pinned, only follow up is a triple threat where she dominates again. It’s just like a who’s who of Gail Kim ass whoopin. It’s so confusing.
WWE seems to run feuds too long while TNA seems to throw them together for like a day and then forget about it.

Don’t hate. You make it sound like Gail is not hard working. She works just as hard as the other Knockouts and is an 11 year veteran. If anything you should be frustrated with TNA’s creative team for booking a veteran, so that she has to cheat to beat a girl with only 3 years of wrestling experience.
Congrats Gail!!!! You deserve this title reign.

Records are made to be broken people. Only the ones like Sammartino holding the WWE title for seven straight years and Taker’s Wrestlemania streak are really safe.

the only reason tna interested in bringing in melina is because she have put LUchaLibreUSA back on the map thier Live events has a attentence of 7-10,000 peaple a show way more than tna and Roh combine second largest crowd only to the WWE the latina fans has taking a liking to her and chavo.

I dont think Melina has debuted yet for LLUSA. She was booked for the 5/12 show but i dont think she was there. So how exactly did she put LLUSA on the map?
Or could it possibly be that the hispanic crowd goes to the show to see the luchadores? And lets not forget the anti-immigration angle with RJ Brewer that got some attention from mainstream media.

Actually, the reason for their interest in Melina is the obvious one: 3 time Women’s Champion, 2 time Divas Champion. Whatever one may say about her behavior off screen (and I’ve said a lot, myself), you can’t deny she’s one of the most accomplished and over women still active in the business.

I don’t quite understand all the Gail Kim hate. She is a tremendous wrestler and has put on a plethora of great matches with the other knockouts respectively. I know this is probably said a lot but she did help build the division and was a core piece in putting the knockouts on the map. Gail deserves whatever accolades she receives. Congratulations Gail!

There’s a difference between pushing a talented wrestler, and overpushing them to the point of making it all about her. She is the Michelle McCool of TNA. We wanted her to be pushed, not overpushed!
… is what I’d say if I suddenly hated Gail Kim, forgot how she is one of the best workers ever, ignored that gives it her all and disregarded what I was bitching about a year ago concerning her.

Gail isn’t the writing team. It’s been badly written, but Gail’s no more responsible for that than Beth was for how her Divas Championship run was written.
People here were saying, “Just take the belt off of Beth, and the writers will suddenly do a complete 180!” Nope, different Champ, same bad writing.
That’ll be the case with the Knockouts regardless of who is wearing the belt.

LOL@ some of these comments ..wow. People seem convinced Gail has control of the creative team ..if she was that conniving, don’t you think she would of been pushed to the moon in WWE? ..
I guess people tend to forget Gail was always “THE” Knockout in TNA. If she had stayed rather then having to leave, she would probably hold a lot more reigns & records. I’ve said it a million times but Gail is TNA’s ‘Trish’ & people need to start to deal with it. The division was made around Gail, heck she was the MAIN PERSON pushing for the division to even be made in the first place ..give her some credit for nagging the higher ups about even creating a division for the woman to wrestle in.
I could understand the “hate” if Gail was a sub-par worker but she isn’t, she’s a respected vet of the industry. She maybe holding the title but people seem to not notice how well she’s been putting over other girls [other then her first match back w/ Tara] ..she made Vel & Brooke seem like legitimate threats with her selling. Go back & re-watch some matches.
I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Melina in TNA anytime soon :/ Gail already tried to get her into TNA for one and i know someone in a great deal of contact with Melina and she doesn’t see it happening either.

Melina would probably only sign with TNA if the money talks.
If they offer her a 100k deal like they did with Mickie, then Melina will likely sign.

Congrats Kim! but i want her to be in a serious storyline. not only beating all the faces randomly. -_- like what she and Kharma has had.
If Melina will go to TNA im pretty sure she’ll have the belt in less than 2 months. like what they did to Tara, Mickie and Gail without any good storyline.

This is well deserved! Gail is a much better wrestler than Madison Rayne! In my opinion Madison’s reign lasted way too long! How the hell did she beat Kong’s reign? Mmm! Good on Gail :) Let’s hope she makes it over 200 days! I like long title reigns.

This is just a phase for Gail KIm Peeps ! Dont Worry As Soon A Gail drops the title , people will complain about the next champion some way or another. Everyone Knockout/Diva goes through it. ^_^

well done Gail and now i believe she will drop the belt. lol. imo i think she puts on better matches than madison rayne so she definitely brings it to the ring, i dont getting satisfaction from watching MR. i dont mind madison as champ as long as her title reigns are a decent length, her last just dragged. gail or madison could easily break Awesome Kong’s rec in a few years and i hope they do now that she has gone to wwe.

Never thought i’d say this but, I’M TIRED OF SEEING GAIL AS CHAMPION. There I said it.
I’m not trying to be some never satisfied mark just becuase I did feel like WWE greatly misused her and that she was gonna be a champion at some point, but I think the booking decisions to make her a champ, keep the title on her and make her look strong gives me so much fatigue and overkill that I don’t wanna watch (I still do every once in a while) and it makes me fear for Gail’s future as she is riding SO HIGH that things can only go downhill.
Worst of all, I’m am still overwhelmed in the belief that this is just a signing bonus-title reign. It wouldn’t be the first. Kurt Angle got his, Sting, RVD, Anderson, Hardy, Tara, Mickie James, Team 3D, etc. It sucks, it’s predictable and buries alot of talent.
Under Gail’s reign, Velvet has been buried (which is wrong no matter how “untalented” one may think she is), Madison has only become Gail’s peon, Mickie and Tara have become forgotten, Tracy Brooks quit, Angelina Love is still too thin (maybe a cry for attention) and we don’t know if Karen Jarrett or Chelsea will be seen again… these are not boom times for the Knockouts.
redsandman99 Reply:
May 21st, 2012 at
Karen and Chelsea being gone really have nothing to do with Gail. As for Traci, when has TNA really ever done anything with her even before this? It’s like she comes in, is featured for a bit and then they just kind of stop using her. That’s whatever booking logic they choose to use (which admittedly doesn’t always makes sense…at all). Angelina, Tara, Mickie and Madison have had more than their moment to shine and while I definitely agree they need to be featured more, TNA only has one two hour show…unless they get a second show or something there’s gonna be a lot of talent that’s not showcased. It’s not always fair or right but that’s kind of how this cookie is gonna crumble no matter how you cut it.
FilmJenkins Reply:
May 21st, 2012 at
Speaking of Cookie.. I’m not even gonna go there. But maybe it IS all about booking, I still shouldn’t feel discouraged, disinterested in and/or turned off by a champion like Gail.
If I could book her return up to this point, I’d have her return in junction with James Storm title reign, she turns on Storm aligns with Roode, gains leverage to usurp Madison’s position as asst. KO VP, Madison slowly turns face, Gail associates with Karen, Winter, and Angelina, then fueds with Tracy in a battle between 2 original KOs, then builds her way to a title match against Velvet.
at
I hope she goes onto hold it for the rest of the year.
at
Now to leave a proper comment, I honestly don’t care for Gail or her reign. It’s been pretty blah IMO & Gail’s push & return in general have rubbed me the wrong way. The fact that she got pushed over women who stayed loyal to TNA despite those money problems is baffling. And in all honesty I prefer Madison’s reign over Gail’s. Congrats to her, but IMO it’s not completely deserved.

However badly her current reign has been booked (And, again, I don’t blame Gail for bad writing), she’s earned the long title run. She was a Women’s Champion when it really meant something back in the Golden Era. She was the first Knockouts Champion. She MADE the KOs and put them on the map. And, we all know this is her farewell tour.
As for the holding pattern when it comes to the booking, if they’re waiting for Melina to sign, that explains a lot. I’ve been wondering, for a few months now, if any major Diva contracts are about to run out. Anyone know how long Beth’s contract is? Nattie’s? If either are almost done, we know why Gail’s been holding the belt for so long.
Kessuki Reply:
May 21st, 2012 at
i dont really know but im clutching at straws here, i personally did think a while ago that nattie’s contract might be up and her refusing to sign could be why she got that flatulence gimmick. not too sure but never say never because no one expected maryse or mickie to get released.

Or maybe they want to build a proper reign?
As for her women’s title win, she held it for 4 weeks & then moreorless faded to the background. She’s never been used well in WWE.
perceval Reply:

The problem with her Women’s Championship run was winning it in her first match on Raw pissed off the fans. They took it as the women who had busted their asses for years being shoved aside for Johnny Ace’s pet (She was Ace’s favorite, at the time). Plus, she was, by her own admission, very green, which set the IWC off, even more.
Molly took her under her wing, and she developed into the Gail we know and love, today.
Where I think TNA Creative is at fault is lack of direction. If they want to build her a proper reign, how about letting her go over someone cleanly, once in a while?
Ryan Reply:

Back then I have doubt people were really debating who deserved what…in fact it seemed Ivory was in the lead for that title win..Because Ivory and Jackie had been taking it to Jazz for weeks!
It was deff a twist to see Gail Kim win it but doubt anyone was angry at it
Except Victoria and Molly who couldnt help slap Gail Kim enough lol
at
I think it sucks and imo Gail doesn’t deserve it. I’m not happy for her at all so whatever.
at
The first time I posted this, it got erased for some reason. Let’s try this again…
I don’t disagree that Gail should probably lose the title soon. Her reign is growing stale IMO. Not because of anything she’s done wrong, but it just hasn’t really been about anything other than her beating the challenger of the month over and over again. And there’s been so much focus on her for so long now that she’s about to run out of relevant opponents.
Mickie and Tara are off TV. Winter and Angelina are probably going to get released pretty soon. They already tried the heel vs heel thing with Madison and the results weren’t great. ODB is busy tag teaming with a man. Brooke and Velvet don’t have much grounds for rematches at this point. I’d love to see Gail vs Sarita, but Sarita can’t even get on TV right now, much less challenge for the title. What else can they really do with Gail as the the champion at this point? She’s beaten every woman who matters in this company, and the ones who don’t matter right now aren’t likely to get title shots anytime soon. About the only thing they can do now is bring in a new Knockout for Gail to drop the title to.
However, I would really rather they NOT sign Melina. Gail has been the champ for so long, TNA have the chance to make a star out of whoever finally takes the title from her. That’s why I really want to see someone who has never been the champion before be the one to do it. Ideally this would be Brooke or Sarita, or a new star like Jennifer Blake, Athena, etc.
To have Melina be that person would just be a waste. Melina’s been around for years, she’s been a multi-time champion and she was easily a bigger deal in WWE. The rub that comes from dethroning Gail would do nothing for Melina. She doesn’t need it.
