Today in History: Trish, Gail, Jazz & Molly Throw Lita a “Bridal Shower”
On this day in history:
August 16th, 2004 | With Matt Hardy losing the night before at SummerSlam, Lita was not only set to give birth to Kane’s baby, she was contracted to marry him too. With one week until the nuptials, Lita’s Diva “friends” decided to throw her a Bridal Shower. Trish Stratus served as the ringleader and she, Gail Kim, Jazz and Molly Holly surprised Lita with gifts like birth control, condoms, a vibrator and a “composite” of what the baby might look like. Unamused, Lita left without saying a word. Trish soon received a little karma in the form of Victoria, who ran into Trish in the hallway and responded to her trash talking with a hard slap. Maybe a bit of that was for Lita’s sake?

If anyone is a show in to win the Best Mean Girl contest it has to be heel Trish from this era. This reminded me of how funny she was and at the same time how much joy she took in the suffering of others:)

As a Lita fan I didn’t like the segment at the time. Now I just see it as silly fun and all the girls did a good job. The slap by Victoria was amazing at the end.

God,Trish was so devious and a straight up bitch as a heel,and I loved it!lol.My favorite part of this was when Victoria slapped Trish at the end.Classic!

Classic segment, and Trish would outdo it the next week by completely stealing the wedding. “You just have to open your heart… just like you opened your legs.”

This segment was more character development than anything today’s Divas have had in at least a year… if not more

They tried doing the Heel Trish thing last year with DoD, in some cases with entire segments, but it was watered down and lacked follow through. What made Heel Trish work so well was she wouldn’t just trash talk and threaten, but would destroy her target. Compare the Kelly magazine cover unveiling with the Christy one that it was based on to see exactly how they dropped the ball with Beth & Nattie.

Exactly. WWE never really let Beth and Nattie get the best of everyone in the segments, which was essential for them. They should have destroyed Kelly, either verbally or physically or both. Their booking was atrocious and it’s why the whole thing was a dud. The only good thing that could be said about it was that it prouced good PPV matches.

I think the biggest reason the Divas Of Doom flopped was because WWE was more focused on trying to push Kelly over as a wrestler. Sorry, but Kelly beating Beth and Nattie had as much believability as Miss Kitty beating Ivory, Stacy Keibler beating Molly Holly or Maria Kanellis beating Victoria (read: none).

Where are all the UNEDUCATED Trish haters now? Excuse me, but WHICH female wrestler in the HISTORY of the WWE has ever done segments like this? Or her “Kiss of Death” promo? Her HILARIOUS segments with Vicsera? NO ONE. I repeat: NO ONE. She is a NATURAL behind the camera in every aspect.
Trish Stratus is the FURTHEST thing from overrated. She’s incredible as a face and even more epic as a heel. Trish deserves EVERY bit of success she’s ever got in the WWE. Her matches with Jazz, Victoria, Molly, Mickie and Lita were INCREDIBLE. The greatest women’s matches in the history of sports entertainment involved Trish. EVERY woman on the roster could put on a great match with her and she sold FLAWLESSLY.
